Mildred E. Edwards
Prosperity woman formerly of Clairton
Mildred E. "Mid" Edwards, 83, of Prosperity R.D.1, died at 2:45 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 1998, in Presbyterian Health Care Center, Washington, following a brief illness.
She was born in East Finley Township, a daughter of John Bentley and Nellie Edna Ashbrook Ealy. She had been a resident of Clairton for over 40 years prior to moving to Prosperity in 1994.
Mrs. Edwards was a former member of Pine Run Methodist Church in Clairton and was a current member of Fairmount United Methodist Church, East Finley Township.
On September 19, 1947, she married Harold LeRoy Edwards, who died in 1978.
Surviving are a stepson, Ronald C. Edwards of Ruffsdale; a brother, Carl R. Ealy of Claysville; two sisters, Helen Dorsey and Martha Martin, both of Prosperity R.D.1; two grandchildren, Lynn and Robert Edwards; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Ralph, Martin, Howard and Eugene Ealy; and three sisters, Leona I. Wright, Mary Ealy and Louise Ealy, who died in infancy.
Ollie Guesman Ely
Former elementary teacher and Avon representative
Ollie "Olive" Guesman Ely, 98, of Columbus, Ohio, formerly of Carmichaels, died Wednesday, August 19, 1998, at the home of her daughter, Barbara Wilburn, with whom she made her home.
She was born July 14, 1900, a daughter of David and Effie Guesman.
Mrs. Ely was a charter member of a Christian church in Columbus; was a former elementary teacher in Greene County schools; and was an Avon representative for more than 50 years.
Her husband, Charles C. Ely, died in 1985.
Surviving, in addition to her daughter, are two granddaughters, three grandsons and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a daughter, Lorraine Willis; a granddaughter; two grandsons; a sister, Mabel Thomas; and three brothers, Reuben, Joshua and Lowell Guesman.
Burial was August 24 in Columbus.
Mike Hardoby Jr.
Active member of New Life Church
Mike Hardoby Jr., 70, a longtime resident of Everett, Wash., died of congestive heart failure Wednesday, August 19, 1998, at home in Duvall, Wash.
He was born on a farm in Low Hill, near Brownsville, July 6, 1928.
Mr. Hardoby entered the Air Force at age 19 and while stationed at Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane, Wash., met and married his wife, Doris. They recently celebrated their 44th anniversary.
The family resided in Everett for 27 years and the last three in Duvall. He worked for many years at Boeing and Weyerhauser, retiring in 1990 from Boeing.
The family attended New Life Church for many years, beginning in 1972 when the church included less than 100 members. Mr. Hardoby took an active role in the church, serving as usher, among other activities,for many years.
Surviving are his wife, Doris; a son, Michael Hardoby of Monroe, Wash.; four daughters, Norma Hayes of Stanwood, Wash., Denise Bickel of Everett, Missy Cox of Everett and Jody Hardoby of Bellevue, Wash.; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Joanne Stephens of Richeyville; and many nieces and nephews.
A son, Bob Peterson, is deceased.
A memorial service was held August 24 at New Life Center in Everett.
Helen Stefanik
Nurse at Vesta mines and Gateway Mine
Helen Stefanik, 83, of Mather, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, in Washington County Health Center.
She was born December 31, 1914, in California, a daughter of Joe and Mary Stavatsky Stefanik.
Miss Stefanik was a nurse at Vesta No. 4 and No.5 mines in Richeyville and retired from Gateway Mine. She was Catholic and lived most of her life in Mather.
Surviving are a brother, Henry Stefanik of Cincinnati, Ohio, and a sister, Christine Dias of California.
A sister, Pauline Stock, is deceased.
Services and interment are private.
Esther Adams
Retired from Rices Landing Post Office
Esther Roseberry Adams, 94, of Rices Landing, died Thursday, August 27, 1998, in Haney Personal Care Home in Rices Landing.
She was born August 22, 1904, in Rices Landing, a daughter of William L. and Jennie Bender Roseberry.
Mrs. Adams was a U.S. Postal worker at the Rices Landing Post Office, where she also was acting postmaster for awhile. She was a homemaker who lived her entire life in Rices Landing. She was the last of her immediate family.
Mrs. Adams was a member of Rices Landing Methodist Church and Daugthers of the American Revolution.
Her husband, William Adams, died in 1969.
Surviving are a daughter, Virginia Sellung of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Anthony Meza, with whom she made her home, and Bill Adams Jr., Barbara Adams and Roy Diamond; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a son, Bill Adams Jr.; four sisters, Irene Mosier, Reba Roseberry, Olive Dowlin and Lavada Branic; and a brother, Conrad Roseberry.

Mildred Lucille Berthold, 86, of McDonald, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, in Presbyterian Home in Washington.
She was born February 9, 1912, in Candor, a daughter of Charles E. and Minnie E. Tipker Griffith.
Mrs. Berthold was a retired clerk from Weiss Shoe Shop, formerly in McDonald.
She was also a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church of McDonald and the Trinity Women's Association.
Her husband, Nicholas Berthold, died in 1995.
Surviving are a sister, Alberta Remmert of Bulger; and several of nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a sister, Lila; and five brothers, Russell, Eugene, Calvin, Jefferson and William.
Louis Bigi

Louis "Bud" Bigi, 88, of Fallowfield Township, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998, in Washington Hospital.
He was born February 1, 1910, in Charleroi, son of Peter and Martha Jane Nutting Bege.
Mr. Bigi was Protestant.
He retired from the Charleroi Plant of Corning Glass in 1972.
His wife, Anna Mary Crow Bigi, died in 1995.
Surviving are a son, Charles J. Bigi of Fallowfield Township; a stepson, David McClellan of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Evelyn Costa of Charleroi; and four nieces and four nephews.
A sister, Emily Bigliardi, is deceased.

He was born December 4,1996, in Jacksonville, N.C., a son of Timothy C. Blake of Library and Cindy M. Sawyer of Jacksonville.
Surviving are his paternal grandparents, Timothy J. and Aloma May Blake of Library.
Mary S. Chuba

Mary Skowvron Chuba, 83, of 206 Gulrich Drive, McMurray, died Thursday, August 27, 1998, in McMurray Hills Manor Nursing Home.
She was born February 12, 1915, in Suttersville, a daughter of John J. and Mary Zaucha Skowvron.
Mrs. Chuba lived in the McMurray and Canonsburg area all of her life.
She was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Polish National Catholic Church, Canonsburg, where she was a member of the Adoration of the Blessed Sacrement Society and was a founder of its Sunday school program.
Mrs. Chuba had worked at Canonsburg Pottery and Joseph Hornes' Department Store.
Surviving are a son, Michael E. Pazyniak of McMurray; four stepchildren, William J. Chuba of Canonsburg, Richard Chuba of California, Joyce Phenicie and Ronald Chuba, both of Hickory; six brothers, Frank Skowvron and Peter Skowvron, both of Houston, Walter Skowvron of Washington, Stanley Skowvron of Canonsburg, Bernard Skowvron of Waynesburg and Theodore Skowvron of Strabane; a sister, Dorothy Zieba of Houston; two grandchildren, Kim Windnagel and Michael Pazyniak Jr.; four stepgrandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Her husband, William Chuba, died October 13, 1990.

Edward Johnson
Former horse groomer for The Meadows
Edward Johnson, 59, of Sumner Avenue, Washington, died Thursday, August 27, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 5, 1938, in Washington, a son of the late Clara M. Shetterly Johnson and Nimrod G. Johnson of Virginia.
He was employed for many years as a horse groomer at the The Meadows Racetrack.
Mr. Johnson enjoyed photography, crossword puzzles and fishing.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Force.
Surviving are his former wife, Barbara Ann Coleman of Washington; a son, Aaron Williams of Washington; a stepson, John Williams Jr.of Washington; a stepdaughter, Rhee Ellis of Washington; a sister, Sonja Bailey of Washington; a grandchild; five stepgrandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Janet Deering and Patricia Calhoun.
Charles E. Melvin
Retired automobile mechanic and pianist
Charles Edward Melvin, 75, of 72 Mroz Lane, Beaufort, S.C., died Sunday, August 23, 1998, at his residence.
He was born August 13, 1923, in Washington, a son of Harry G. and Gertrude Hogg Melvin.
Mr. Melvin served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He was an automobile mechanic in Washington until his retirement, when he and his wife moved to Beaufort. Mr. Melvin was an active member of the local community and treasured his retirement years.
During his years in Beaufort, he was self-employed as a window washer and prided himself in making the windows of the old mansions and houses of Beaufort and Fripp Island shine. He was an accomplished pianist in his early years.
His wife, Mary Seibert Melvin, is deceased.
Surviving are two sons, Charles Daniel Melvin of Washington and Michael Steven Melvin of Martins Ferry, Ohio; a stepson, Carl Seibert of LaPorte, Ind.; a daughter, Sharon M. Kinney of Salem, W.Va.; a sister, Olive Lyle of Canton, Ohio; seven grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren.

Esther L. Rizor
Cafeteria worker for John F. Kennedy Grade School
Esther L. Rizor, 78, of Washington, died at 4:43 a.m. Thursday, August 27, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a month-long illness.
She was born March 19, 1920, in Sprecklesville, Island of Maui, Hawaii, the daughter of Fred W. and Rose Kekua Phillips.
Mrs. Rizor graduated from Port Townsend High School, Port Townsend, Washington.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Washington, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers.
Mrs. Rizor worked for Century Plaza Inn of Washington for five years as a desk clerk. She had most recently worked at the cafeteria of John F. Kennedy Grade School.
She enjoyed bingo and travelling. She bowled and played darts for the Alpine Club.
Mrs. Rizor was a member of the Washington Eagles Lodge and the Claysville American Legion Post Auxillary.
On June 13, 1941, she married Raymond M. Rizor, who died February 4, 1975.
Surviving are two daughters, Nardis R. Hardie, with whom she made her home, and Gwen R. Hampe of Albuquerque, N.M.; a son, Thomas D. Rizor of Washington; five grandchildren, Renee M. Hardie, Richard M. Hardie, Holly Anne Hall, Lonnie G. Hampe Jr. and Matthew D. Rizor; and a great-granddaughter.
A daughter, Laverne L. Rizor, died December 12, 1997.
Louis J. Saveikis

Louis J. Saveikis, 75, of Upper St. Clair, died Sunday, August 23, 1998.
Surviving are his wife, Cecelia E. Saveikis; two daughters, Cynthia Saveikis and Denise Devlin; two grandchildren, Nathan and Deanna Devlin; and three sisters, Jean Tuel, Gertrude Kupar and Janice Baldwin.
Andrew Vargo
Retired mine worker
Andrew Vargo, 89, of Warren, Ohio, formerly of Richeyville, died Thursday, August 27, 1998, at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, Warren.
He was born December 30, 1908, in Arnold City.
Mr. Vargo worked for 43 years as a coal miner in the Vesta 4 Mine, Bobtown, retiring in 1973. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America.
Survivng are his wife, Verna Mucho Vargo; a son, Phillip Vargo of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Phyllis Eggens of Warren; a brother, Steve Vargo of Carmichaels; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild.
Four sisters and one brother are deceased.
A private burial will be held Saturday, August 29, in Pine View Memorial Park Cemetery, Warren.

Robert A. White, 74, of Somerset, formerly of Peters Township, died Wednesday, August 26, 1998.
Mr. White was a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh and he was the owner of Black and White Engineering Sales Inc.
He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force.
He was also a longtime member of Christ United Methodist Church and Wesley Chapel of Rockwood.
Surviving are his wife, Virginia A. Loth White; a daughter, Sherrill White of Peters Township; a son, Robert D. White of Hickory; eight grandchildren, Christian and Brandon Davis, Tyler, Robbie and Cameron Rose, Dillon and Dallas Sauers, and Erica White; and two nieces.
Mary Lucinda Bobnar

Mary Lucinda Bobnar, 85, of Monongahela, died Friday, August 28, 1998, in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township.
She was born January 26, 1913, in Monongahela, a daughter of Daniel and Anna Hartman Cain.
Mrs. Bobnar was a member of First Christian Church in Monongahela.
She was employed by Monongahela Memorial Hospital, New Eagle, as a seamstress and in the housekeeping department, retiring in January 1978.
Surviving are a son, Joseph D. Bobnar of Monongahela, with whom she resided; a daughter, Carol Ann Frye of Monongahela; three grandchildren, Kimberly Fagioletti, Joseph Mark Bobnar and David Daniel Frye III; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Boyd of Monongahela; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are her husband, Joseph Bobnar, who died October 16, 1995; three sisters, Helen Gray, Edith Furiga and Ruth Bonacci; and a brother, Neil Daniel Cain, who died during World War II.
William N. Booze
U.S. Army veteran of World War II
William N. Booze, 74, formerly of Clarksville and Millsboro, died Friday, August 28, 1998, in Franklin Care Center, Waynesburg, following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 9, 1923, in Centerville Borough, a son of Walter "Kitty" and Virginia Booze.
Mr. Booze was a retired coal miner, having worked for more than 40 years at the former Jones and Laughlin Vesta No. 5 Coal Mine.
He was a member of Pitt Gas Missionary Church in Clarksville, UMWA Local 762, Vestaburg, and Hanson Coal American Legion Post 391 of Fredericktown,
He was a World War II veteran, serving from March 27, 1940, to June 24, 1945, as a U.S. Army radio operator in the European Theater - Rhineland and France. He was a technician fifth grade.
On June 20, 1944, he married in Forrest County, Miss., Eileen Day Booze, who survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Sharon Lancaster of Winston Salem, N.C., Winniford Duvall of Crystal Spring and Billie Bastian and Cassandra Niemiec, both of Clarksville; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four brothers, Fred Derry of Maryland, Gene Booze of Texas, Jerry Booze of Ohio and Tom Booze of Florida.; and two sisters, Patty Riciutti of Vestaburg and Nancy Symcheck of Ohio.
Deceased are two brothers, Robert Booze and Walter "Hoonie" Booze; and a sister, Theresa Mayle.

Charles Buskirk
Member and deacon of First Baptist Church
Charles "Bunny" Buskirk, 58, of Carmichaels, died Friday, August 28, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg.
He was born January 21, 1940, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Charles and Mary Mill Buskirk.
Mr. Buskirk worked at Rich's Mobile Homes in Carmichaels R.D.1 for 45 years.
He lived all his life in the Carmichaels and Crucible areas, where he was a member and deacon of First Baptist Church and a former member of Carmichaels-Cumberland Township Volunteer Fire Company.
Mr. Buskirk enjoyed fishing.
On April 15, 1960, he married Mildred Harvey Buskirk, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Eric Michael Buskirk at home; a daughter, Charlene Bird of Carmichaels; a grandson, Brian Keith Bird II; and a brother, Jack Buskirk of Mather.
Deceased are a daughter, Martha Conard; and a sister, Bertha Prodan.

Steve Lucas Jr., 80, of Chesapeake, Va., died Tuesday, August 25, 1998, in Virginia Beach, Va.
He was born in Brownsville.
Mr. Lucas was a member of the Model A Club in Virginia Beach, Va.
He was formerly employed by U.S. Steel's Robena Mine in Greensboro.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Check Lucas; three sons, Stephen A. Lucas of Virginia Beach, William E. Lucas of New Iberia, La., and Joseph P. Lucas of Suffolk, Va.; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, A. L. Elizabeth Kinger of San Antonio, Texas; and a brother, William Lucas of Wilmington, N.C.
Deceased is a brother, Joseph Lucas.
Helen S. McWreath
Former member of Church of the Covenant
Helen S. McWreath, 77, of Pinehurst, N.C., formerly of Washington, died Friday, August 28, 1998, in Duke University Hospital, Durham, N.C.
She was born November 13, 1920, in Oak Park, Ill., a daughter of Henry and Agnes Knudsen Schreiber.
Mrs. McWreath was a former member of Church of the Covenant in Washington and was a homemaker.
She was a member of Pinehurst County Club and a former member of Lone Pine Nemacolin Country Club, as well as William's Country Club in Weirton.
While in Washington, she was a member of the Women's Auxiliary of Washington Hospital.
On December 6, 1973, in Fredericksburg, Va., she married David R. McWreath, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Robert C. McBride of Sherborn, Mass.; three daughters, Karen Lundin of Milford, Mich., Darlene Havelka of Washington and Deborah McWreath of Charlotte, N.C.; a brother, Howard Schreiber of Elmhurst, Ill.; and seven grandchildren.
Her first husband, Harry McBride, is deceased.
John R. Smith

John R. Smith, 90, of Fourth Avenue, New Eagle, died Friday, August 28, 1998, in Mon Valley Hospital.
He was born December 25, 1907, in New Eagle, a son of Thomas and Sarah Richardson Smith.
Mr. Smith was a member of Riverview Baptist Church in New Eagle.
He was a retired foreman for Combustion Engineering, with 50 years of service.
On September 6, 1941, he married Devida Trumpie Smith, with whom he celebrated 56 years of marriage in 1997. She survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Shirley Wolfe and Karen Mountain, both of New Eagle; four grandchildren, Vickie Wolfe Polaski, John Mountain, Saundra Mountain Bobnar and Eric Wolfe; five great-grandchildren; a brother, James Smith of New Eagle; and two sisters, Margaret McGinty and Susan Mucci, both of New Eagle.
Deceased are two brothers, Thomas and Osmond Smith.
Laura M. Zappone

Laura M. Zappone, 83, of Crucible, died Friday, August 28, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg.
She was born January 8, 1915, in Bradford, Fayette County, a daughter of John S. and Dorothy Campbell Reagan.
Mrs. Zappone was a retired Curry Home employee and past union president of the employees.
She lived most of her life in Crucible and was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church, Carmichaels.
On February 4, 1932, she married Charles Zappone, who died August 23, 1986.
Surviving are a son, Dennis R. Zappone of Swayzee, Ind.; five daughters, Dorothy Dugan of Streetsboro, Ohio, and Theresa Walters, Beverly Febus, Mary Clark and Ruth Piel, all of Crucible; 14 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Evelyn Blevins of Ohio, Mary Norman of Leckrone and Dorothy Gribble of Brownsville; and a brother, Porter Reagan of Crucible.
Deceased are a son, Charles Zappone; three brothers, James, John and Andrew Reagan; a sister, Thelma Clark; a granddaughter, Christine Clark; and a grandson, Michael Walters.
At the request of the deceased, visitation and services will be private for the family. Arrangements are being made by Behm Funeral Home Inc., Jefferson.
Louis Cipranic Jr.
Retired millwright for Wheeling-Pitt Steel Co.
Louis "Jige" Cipranic Jr., 76, of Burgettstown, died Sunday, August 2, 1998, in his home.
He was born April 10, 1922, in Sagamore, a son of Louis and Eva Cipranic.
He was a retired millwright for the Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co., Follansbee, W.Va. Division.
During World War II, Mr. Cipranic served with the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 987 and American Legion Post 698, both of Burgettstown.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Babyak Cipranic; two sons, Gerald S. and Richard L. Cipranic, both of Burgettstown; five grandchildren; and a brother, Ben Cipranic of San Diego, Calif.
Deceased are a brother, Dominic Cipranic; and three sisters, Helen O'Shanka, Josephine Pasqualini and Joan Livingston.
Edward H. Egger
WWII vet, retired from Alltel in Waynesburg
Edward H. Egger, 72, of 338 East Franklin Street, Waynesburg, died at 1:40 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness.
He was born July 1, 1926, at Star Junction, a son of Frank and Mary Hughes Egger.
On November 15, 1952, he married Mary Frances (Fran) Hudson Egger, who survives.
Prior to his retirement in 1988, Mr. Egger was employed as a lineman and troubleshooter for Alltel in Waynesburg. He had previously worked at Mather Collieries and for Penn Line Service. He also had worked as a blacksmith at the Meadows.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army, 254th Infantry Division, Company H.
Mr. Egger lived most of his life in Waynesburg, where he was a member of Washington Street United Methodist Church, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 461, James T. Farrell Post 330 of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793.
Suriviving, in addition to his wife, are two daughters, Sharon K. Coneybeer of Jefferson and Pamela S. Crawford of Aliquippa; a son, Gary E. Egger of Waynesburg; three granddaughters, Angela Egger, Heather Crawford and Lindsey Coneybeer; a niece; and a half-brother, Kevin Egger of Canonsburg.
Deceased are two sisters, Shirley Egger Moore and one who died in infancy; and two infant brothers.
Joseph J. Gubanic

Joseph J. Gubanic, 77, of Swissvale, died Friday, July 31, 1998, in Washington Hospital.
He was born September 16, 1920, in Braddock, a son of Michael and Anna Gubanich.
He was a retired employee of the Veterans Administration of Pittsburgh and a member of St. Barnabas Church in Swissvale.
Surviving are a brother, the Rev. Michael Gubanich of Ellsworth; two sisters, Ann Osley and Margaret Napolitan; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are three sisters, Mary Barlas, Betty Charney and Elsie Vroble.

Beulah Faye Hillberry Hull, 84, of Kings Court Apartments, Washington, died at 5:45 p.m. Sunday, August 2, 1998, in Washington Hospital.
She was born December 4, 1913, at Washington Bottom, W.Va., a daughter of Isaac Miller and Sarah Elizabeth Speece Leeper.
Mrs. Hull was a homemaker. She was a member of North Ten Mile Baptist Church and the Sunshiners and a former member of Reds Run Community Club.
She was twice married. On December 11, 1936, she married Alpheus Berl Hillberry, who died May 25, 1973. On September 27, 1974, she marrid Earl Wilbur Hull, who died June 18, 1985.
Surviving are two sons, Alpheus Berl Hillberry Jr. of Washington and Larry Lee Hillberry of Amity; a daughter, Jeanett Lorraine Ankrom of Washington, with whom she made her home; four stepsons Wilbert I. Hull and Dwight W. Hull, both of Washington, Ralph E. Hull of Mississippi and Kenneth E. Hull of Vermont; a stepdaughter, Helen D. Michaels of Florida; two sisters, Irena Mae Hunt and Olive Pauline Dillie, both of Washington; seven grandchildren, Jeffrey B. and David C. Hillberry, Stacey L. Hillberry Haney, Shelly L. Hillberry Pellen, Tammy L. Riggle Dyer, Michael A. and Mark R. Riggle; several stepgrandchilren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several stepgreat-grandchildren.
Deceased are a great-granddaughter, Adrianna Nicole Riggle; and a brother, Victor Vernon Ralston Leeper, who died in infancy.

Julius Andrew Johnson, infant son of William J. Johnson and Tracey Lee Thomas Kisner, of Cameron Star Route, Waynesburg, died shortly after his birth Saturday, August 1, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital , Morgantown, W.Va.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, Cody Kisner and Walter Kisner Jr.; a sister, Labrea Kisner; maternal grandparents, Vicky Carter of Cameron Star Route, Waynesburg, and Ralph Lee Thomas of Waynesburg; paternal grandparents, Susan Mae and Rolland Charles Sanders of Carmichaels; maternal great-grandparents, Elden Ray Carter and Sylvia Carter, both of New Freeport; and maternal great-grandmother, Dorthea Huggins of Waynesburg.
All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Retired school bus driver for Ringgold
Wilhelmenia Barefoot Kennedy, 67, of Monongahela, died Saturday, August 1, 1998, at her home.
She was born August 7, 1930, in Benson, N.C., a daughter of Talmadge B. and Ava McClamb Barefoot.
Mrs. Kennedy was a retired school bus driver for Ringgold School District.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph L. Kennedy, with whom she celebrated 48 years of marriage Jan. 17, 1998; two sons, Joseph K. Kennedy of Fort Worth, Texas, and William E. Kennedy of Eighty Four; six grandchildren, Kristen, Joseph, Shawnna, Jessica, Billy and Chad Kennedy; and five sisters, Margaret Dennis of Irwin, N.C., Jewell Phillips of Monongahela, Jean Moore of Garner, N.C., Shirley Biggs of Atlanta, Ga., and Janice Honeycutt of Angier, N.C.
Deceased are a son, Keith D. Kennedy, who died June 6, 1995; a sister, Melvia M. Carden; and a brother, Carl E. Barefoot.

Retired Washington High School teacher
Paul A. Kratt, 88, of Magnolia Drive, Washington, died at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, August 1, 1998, in his home, following a lingering illness.
He was born September 6, 1909, in Washington, a son of George Christian and Elizabeth Barbara Miller Kratt.
He was a 1928 graduate of Washington High School and received his bachelor and masters degrees from Washington and Jefferson College.
For 37 years, Mr. Kratt taught science and math at Washington High School, where he was the adviser for the S.O.S. club and student council adviser for 31 years.
On February 5, 1966, he married Esther June O'Donnell, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Cynthia Kratt, at home, and Christine Spallinger of Canonsburg.
Deceased are four brothers, Robert, George, William and Oscar Kratt; and four sisters, Ruth Hocking, Marguerite McGurty, Helen and Mary Kratt.

V. Darrell Shannon Sr., 83, of Fallowfield Township, died Friday, July 31, 1998, at his home.
He was born July 17, 1915, in Fallowfield Township, a son of Alden Wilson and Hazel Scott Shannon.
A lifelong resident of Fallowfield Township, he was a member of Charleroi Presbyterian Church, Riverside Tabernacle Church of Monongahela, I.O.O.F. Lodge 1030 of Charleroi and Charleroi Council No. 162 Daughters of America.
Mr. Shannon was a truck driver and the founder of Shannon Trucking Co.
Surviving are his wife, MIldred Dunlap Shannon; two daughters, Pearl Smith of Murrysville and Reta Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; a son, V. Darrell Shannon Jr. of Charleroi; a sister, Rebecca Harper of Belle Vernon; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are three brothers, Ira, Wilson and Guy Shannon; a granddaughter, Karen Smith; and a great-grandson, Alec Pergola.
