Daniel Grubich
Former coal miner was WWII veteran
Daniel Grubich, 94, of Eighty Four, died Thursday, December 24, 1998, in his home. He was born November 13, 1904, in Leckrone, a son of George and Saba Petrovich Grubich. He worked for many years as a coal miner and was a member of the UMWA. Mr. Grubich was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the Morrison Ritchie American Legion Post 613 and the LOOM 172, both of Finleyville. He enjoyed reading and spending many hours with his books. Surviving are two brothers, Harry Grubich of Eighty Four and Fred Grubich of Coraopolis; and several nieces and nephews.

William L. Hairston
Trinity grad formerly of Washington
William L. Hairston, 37, formerly of Washington, died Friday December 25, 1998. He was born November 22, 1961, in Bronxville, N.Y., a son of the late James W. Hairston and Catherine L. Brown Hairston of Washington. Mr. Hairston was a graduate of Trinity High School. Surviving are three brothers, James L. Palmer of Washington, John H. Hairston of Canonsburg and Walter Hairston of Mercer; three sisters, Gwendolyn L. Powell of Washington and Lola A. Palmer and Charlotte N. Mann, both of Daytona Beach, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Terry Lee Harper
Retired coal miner
Terry Lee Harper, 48, of Wind Ridge R.D.1, died unexpectedly Friday, December 25, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital. He was born October 18, 1950, in Thomas, W.Va., a son of Jo Anne Pase Harper of Thomas and the late Denver Harper. He was a retired coal miner and had worked at the Humphrey and Marianna mines. Mr. Harper resided in Richhill Township for the past 10 years. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 461, Waynesburg, and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 598. He was a social member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars of Waynesburg. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are his wife, Brenda Nakonechni; two stepsons, Nathaniel Todd and Ian Jerod Nakonechi; a sister, Brenda Beaulieu of New Hampshire; three brothers, Donald Thomas Harper of Core, W.Va., Danny E. Harper of Chesapeake City, Md., and Mark Steven Harper of Thomas, W.Va.; a half sister, Leslie Maldinato; a half brother, Thomas Isaac Harper of New Jersey; his stepmother, Patty Harper of Waynesburg; a stepbrother, Doug Smith of Seven Springs; two stepsisters, Kim Smith of Texas and Becky Walker of Marion Center; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased was his brother, Samuel Harper.

John Keron
Former glassworker was World War II veteran
John Keron, 71, of Washington, died Sunday, December 27, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He was born February 5, 1927, in Washington, a son of Andrew and Lucy Molick Keron. He was a member of First Christian Church of Washington and attended Washington schools. Mr. Keron worked at Hazel Atlas No.1, Brockway Glass and Washington High School. He served in the U.S. Army infantry during World War II. On December 19, 1959, he married Mary Jane Phillips, who survives. Also surviving are a stepdaughter, Karen Lee Fleissner of Washington; two brothers, Rudy Keron and Robert Keron, both of Washington; four sisters, Helen Roupe and Mildred Strnisha, both of Washington, Mary Slavakosky of Gainesville, Fla., and Margaret Williams of Houston; three stepgrandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, Andy, Joe and Steve Keron; and a sister, Annie Keron.

Karen F. King
Central Greene teacher owned herb shop
Karen F. King, 44, of 820 North Liberty Street, Waynesburg, died of cancer Sunday, December 27, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital. She was born December 24, 1954, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Donald W. Fike of Punta Gorda, Fla., and Faye Page Fike of Vanderbilt R.D.1. Mrs. King earned a bachelor of science degree in education from Waynesburg College in 1990. She was valedictorian of her class. She worked at Morgantown Day School and was a long-term substitute teacher in Central Greene School District. Mrs. King was co-owner of Specialty Herbal Products in Waynesburg. She was a member of Jefferson Baptist Church and was a volunteer at Greene County Humane Society, where she served as a humane officer. She enjoyed riding and showing horses and was an avid flower gardener. On March 26, 1986, she married Brian J. King, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Bess Moriah King and Rhetta Elizabeth King; and a sister, Debbie Rittenhouse of Vanderbilt R.D.1.

Virginia Anne Zubel Kumpar, 74, of Windsor Heights, W.Va., died Sunday, December 27, 1998, in St. Francis Medical Center, Pittsburgh. She was born October 4, 1924, in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of Walter and Sophia Zubel. Mrs. Kumpar was a homemaker. She was a member of Brooke County Senior Citizens and a benefactor of many religious and community charities. Surviving are two sons, David Kumpar of Washington and Stephen M. Kumpar of Ortonville, Mich.; two daughters, Stephanie West of Bay Village, Ohio, and Patricia Ludlow of Denver, Colo.; a brother, Ambrose Zubel of Houston, Texas; three sisters, Katherine Bush of Hillman, Mich., Helen Cervantes of Cerritos, Calif., and Lottie Monteleone of Wheeling; and six grandchildren. Deceased are her husband, Stephen E. Kumpar; a brother, Frank Zubel; and three sisters, Josephine Kumpar, Mary Mason and Alfreda Stelik.

Joseph Ladisic Jr.
Virginia Teacher of the Year from Cokeburg
Joseph Ladisic Jr., 37, of Portsmouth, Va., formerly of Cokeburg, died at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 1998, at home. He was born May 13, 1961, in Charleroi, a son of Joseph Sr. and Janet Christopher Ladisic of Cokeburg. Mr. Ladisic was a 1979 graduate of Bentworth High School and a 1984 graduate of the California University of Pennsylvania, majoring in education and biology. He taught 10th grade at Woodrow Wilson High School, Portsmouth, Va., where he was football and baseball coach for 14 years. He received the 1998 Teacher of the Year award and was the recipient of the 1998 Special Achievement Award given by the Norfolk Sports Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and golf Mr. Ladisic was a former member of First Baptist Church of Bentleyville and attended the Church of St. Therese in Portsmouth. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are his wife, Jeanne Ladisic; two brothers, Gary Paul Ladisic of Lake Placid, N.Y., and Jason Christopher Ladisic of Cokeburg; and two nephews, Zachary and Joshua Ladisic.

Dr. Fred D. Large
Claysville doctor and mayor
Dr. Fred D. Large, 85, of Claysville, died Friday, December 25, 1998, in Washington County Health Center. He was born December 23, 1913, in Clairton, a son of Charles and Mary Large. He was a member of United Presbyterian Church, Claysville. Dr. Large graduated from Clairton High School and Washington and Jefferson College, Washington. He received his medical degree from Temple University Medical School, Philadelphia, in 1940. Following his internship at Washington Hospital, he entered the U.S. Army Medical Corps and served in the 79th Infantry Division, European Theater. He was discharged as a lieutenant colonel. Following his military service, he joined the practice of Dr. Harry Hutchison in Claysville. In 1949, he opened his own office as a general practitioner, which he operated until his retirement in 1996. Dr. Large was the mayor of Claysville for the past 27 years. He was honored in 1996 by the community for more than 50 years of dedicated service as a doctor and civic leader. He was a member of the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the Washington County Medical Society, Claysville American Legion James R. Hunt Post 639, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the VFW Forty and Eighter Club, and the Claysville Masonic Lodge 447, F&AM. He was a life member of the Washington Elks Lodge, Syria Temple AAONMS, Valley of Pittsburgh, and an honorary member of the Claysville Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife of more than 60 years, Cora Maye Russell Large of St. Augustine, Fla.; and two nieces, Irma Stokes and Edna Parsons. Deceased are two brothers, Walter and Albert Large; and a sister, Roberta Large.

Julia L. Liberatore
Member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church
Julia L. Liberatore, 79, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Thursday, December 24, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospitals-Canonsburg. She was born July 2, 1919, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Gaetano and Vincenza Pacella Liberatore. She was a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. Miss Liberatore was a member of the senior citizens centers of Canonsburg, Houston and Meadow Lands. She was the last of her immediate family. Surviving are four nephews, Donald Zenner of Washington, and Frank, Robert and Donald Liberatore, all of Canonsburg; and three nieces, Alma DonGiovanni, Judith Stover and Debora Descutner. Deceased are a sister, Mary Zenner; and four brothers, Anthony, Frank, James and Ralph Liberatore.

Faye Minor Magill
Cooking columnist for Observer and Reporter
Faye Minor Magill, 95, of Carbondale, Ill., formerly of Washington, died Saturday, December 26, 1998. She was born June 3, 1903, in Greene County, a daughter of William E. and Anna Elizabeth Ross Minor. Mrs. Magill was an affiliate member of the Church of the Good Shepherd in Carbondale, and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Washington. She was a 1923 graduate of Washington High School and attended California University of Pennsylvania in 1923 and 1924. She taught public school in North Franklin Township and in Washington from 1923 until 1928. In 1956, she developed a home-tested recipe column "Cookbook Capers" that appeared in the Washington Observer and the Reporter for 34 years and in the Greensburg Tribune-Review for nine years. She retired from newspaper writing in 1990. After moving to Carbondale in 1965, Mrs. Magill traveled extensively visiting well-known food companies and attending food conferences and seminars, developing nutritionally-sound recipes. The Fay Minor Magill Family Food and Learning Center at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale was marked with a bronze plaque in her honor. She was a member of the University's Chancellor's Council and a member of the Society for Philosophy of Creativity. In May 1925, she married James A. Magill, who is deceased. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a daughter and grandson, who died in a 1959 auto accident in West Virginia; three brothers, Sylva, Pearson and William Sherman Minor; and a sister, Galia M. Minor. Walker Funeral Home, Carbondale, Ill., handled arrangements.

Herbert W. Martin

Herbert W. Martin, 88, of 1233 Dustin Drive, Lady Lake, Fla., died Friday, December 25, 1998. Mr. Martin retired as a cost accountant with Pittsburgh Tube Co. and relocated to Lady Lake in 1985. He was a member of the Chapel of All Faiths, Lady Lake. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; a stepson, Richard C. Porter of Leesburg, Fla.; two daughters, Barbara A. Gallagher of Butler and Virginia L. Frobe of British Columbia, Canada; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Arrangements are being handled by Page-Theus-Blanchard Funeral Home, Leesburg, Fla.

M. Dale Miller
Former machine operator at Brockway Glass
M. Dale Miller, 63, of East Prospect Avenue, Washington, died at 11:50 p.m. Sunday, December 27, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a two-week illness. He was born September 12, 1935, in Washington, a son of Emerson Lloyd and Edna Florence Herron Miller. Mr. Miller had been employed by Overnight Trucking. Prior to that, he worked as a machine operator at Brockway Glass, Plant 7 for 28 years. On November 22, 1956, he married June Margaret Mangold, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Merwin Dale Miller Jr. of Fayetteville, N.C.; four daughters, Donna Jean Downing of New Freeport; Edna Florence Montgomery of Lone Pine, Mildred Romaine Tharp of Marianna and Donna Wisczcor of Holbrook; and four grandchildren, Elijah Jacob Miller, Melissa Lynn Montgomery, Ashley Marie Montgomery and Sarah Louise Miller. Deceased are three brothers, Emerson Floyd Miller, James Ralph Miller and Robert Miller; and three sisters, Jean Engle, Betty Jean Stainbrook and Mildred Romaine Gilmore; and two grandchildren, Holly Marie Byers and Andrew Glenn Byers.

Lillian H. Orndoff

Lillian H. Orndoff, 94, of 154 West High Street, Waynesburg, died at 9 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg. She was born January 29, 1904, in Waynesburg, a daughter of William and Margaret Hopkins Hill. Her early life was spent in Waynesburg. In 1929, she moved to Steubenville, Ohio, and lived there until 1983, when she moved back to Waynesburg. While in Steubenville, she was a member of LaBelle View Methodist Church, the LaBelle Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and the Women's Club of Steubenville. At the time of her death, Mrs. Orndoff was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Waynesburg. In 1929, she married Carl Orndoff, who died in 1977. Surviving are two nieces, Peggy Durbin Vogt of Hockessin, Del., and Connie Hill McNeely of Waynesburg; and four great-nieces. Deceased, in addition to her husband, are two brothers, Alfred and Cecil Hill; and two sisters, Maud H. Durbin and Frances H. Patterson.

Susan A. "Queenie" Rankin, 40, of Carmichaels R.D.2, died Saturday, December 26, following a lengthy illness. She was born April 5, 1958, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late Charles William and Margaret Ann Dolansky Cunningham. Mrs. Rankin resided in the Carmichaels area since 1975 and was a former member of American Trap Shooters Association and Stringtown Gun Club. Her husband, John Edward Rankin, whom she married March 10, 1983, died March 2, 1997. Surviving are four sons, Richard W. Rankin of Smithfield, Jeremie J., Heath A. and John E. Rankin Jr., all at home; two daughters, Heather L. Rankin of Carmichaels and Trina D. Rankin, at home; three stepsons, Donald R., John L. II and Robert R. Rankin, all of Carmichaels; three stepdaughters, Mary V. Rankin of Wheeling, W.Va., and Connie L. Durbin and Leila A. Rankin, both of Carmichaels; 11 grandchildren; five brothers, Charles W. Cunningham of Waynesboro, Joseph F. Cunningham of Nemacolin, John Cunningham of Beaver Falls, Steve Cunningham of Oklahoma and Edward Cunningham of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Margaret Cunningham of New York and Madeline Baker of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews.

Anita M. Resek, 91, formerly of Ewing Street, Washington, died at 8:50 p.m. Saturday, December 26, 1998, in South Hills Health and Rehabilitation Center, Canonsburg, following a brief illness. She was born August 17, 1907, in Cuddy, Allegheny County, a daughter of Charles and Marian Armon Stankus. Mrs. Resek was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Washington. On June 10, 1931, she married John G. "Chick" Resek, who died May 14, 1973. Surviving are three sons, John N. (Jack) Resek of Homosassa Springs, Fla., and David E. Resek and Donald C. Resek, both of Washington; a sister, Kathryn D. Stanton of Carnegie; seven grandchildren, Theresa Hamilton, Elizabeth Potter, David J. Resek, Donna Abbott, Dennis Resek, Christopher Resek and Johnna Resek; and five great-grandchildren. Deceased are a granddaughter, Tonia Resek; a brother, Benjamin Stankus; and a sister, Annabelle Stanton.

Suzzane J. Ross
Washington woman enjoyed arts and crafts
Suzzane J. Ross, 49, of South Wade Avenue, Washington, died at 12:30 p.m. Monday, December 28, 1998, in Washington Hospital, after a one-year illness. She was born February 16, 1949, in Washington, a daughter of the late Gene L. McDonough and Virginia L. Bice McDonough Gray of Washington. Mrs. Ross attended Trinity High School and enjoyed arts and crafts. Her husband, David I. Ross, died in July 1990. Surviving are her stepfather, Fred D. Gray of Washington; two sons, John and Michael Baker, both of Washington; three daughters, Samantha Harrison of Washington, Amanda Harvison of Washington and Robin Ross, at home; a sister, Sherry L. Jones of Canonsburg; three and grandchildren, Khrystallyn, Isaac and Miranda Harvison, Deceased is a brother, Terry McDonough. At the request of the family, there will be no public visitation. Burial will be private. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Arrangements are being handled by Warco- Falvo Funeral Home Inc., Washington.

Mildred C'unko Rupcich, 84, of Ellsworth, died Monday, December 28, 1998, in Monongahela Valley Hospital. She was born August 10, 1914, in Yugoslavia, a daughter of Charles and Barbara Novosel C'unko. Mrs. Rupcich was a member of Ave Maria Parish and Jednota. She was a homemaker, enjoyed gardening and baking, and once worked for the former Robson Bakery in Charleroi. She also worked for Resnicks Cleaners in Washington. Surviving are five daughters, Mildred A. Zilka of Monessen, Barbara Gibbs of Ellsworth, Nancy K. Jones of Lake Mary, Fla., and Rita A. Shaughnessy and Bernadene C. Rupcich, both of Pittsburgh; seven grandchildren, Bernadette Vehec, Robbie, Tim and Matt Jones, Laural Gibbs and Valerie and Charlie Shaughnessy; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family. Deceased are her husband, Matthew J. Rupcich, who died March 15, 1978; three sisters, Josephine Bradica, Mary Stanish and Catherine, who died in infancy; and a brother, Peter C'unko.

William Skoloda, 86, of Bethel Park, died Saturday, December 26, 1998, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born February 12, 1912, in United, a son of John and Sophie Smolko Skoloda. He was a retired employee of Chevron Oil Co., formerly Gulf Oil Co., of Pittsburgh. Surviving are three brothers, Steve Skoloda of Fredericktown, Paul Skoloda of Hancock, Md., and Adam Skoloda of Bloomsburg, Md.; two sisters, Julia Rowell of Monroe, La., and Margaret Hardy of Parma, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and his sister-in-law, Irene Sagat, with whom he made his home. Deceased are his wife, Elizabeth Sagat Skoloda, who died June 30, 1985; and five brothers.

Grace E. Snedeker
An aide at Mayview for 30 years
Grace E. Snedeker, 75, of Michigan Avenue, Washington, died Monday, December 28, 1998, at 6:30 a.m. in Washington Hospital. She had been ill since November She was born April 24, 1923, in Wheeling, W.Va., a daughter of William and Florence Craig Britt. Mrs. Snedeker had been employed by Mayview State Hospital as an aide for 30 years. She was a member of Claysville Christian Church and was a member of Retired Public Employees of Pennsylvania Union 8402. On July 4, 1946, she married Samuel H. Snedeker, who died November 10, 1982. Surviving are three sons, William Snedeker of Eighty Four, Frank Snedeker of Canonsburg and Andy Snedeker of Hendersonville; two daughters, Mildred Joann Balsinger of McMurray and Judy Heck of Clinton; a sister, Martha Miller of Claysville; 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Deceased is a sister, Mary Schafer.

Brian M. Teets
Ringgold High School senior, soccer player
Brian M. Teets, 17, of Fifth Avenue, Monongahela, died Sunday, December 27, 1998, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born August 29, 1981, in Monongahela, a son of David S. and Nancy Mazur Teets of Monongahela. He was a student in the senior class at Ringgold High School, where he was a member of the boys soccer team. He played on the traveling team for Mon Valley Soccer Association and played for New Eagle Youth Baseball. He was Catholic. Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, William H. Sherry of California; a sister, Kimberly Sherry of Athens, Ga.; his maternal grandparents, Peter and Dorothy Ghilani Mazur of Victory Hill, Monongahela; and his paternal grandmother, Margaret Teets of Monongahela. His paternal grandfather, Leonard Teets, is deceased.

Mary Kathryn Wise, 81, formerly of Donnan Avenue, Washington, died at 1:47 a.m. Saturday, December 26, 1998. She was born November 20, 1917, in Aliquippa, a daughter of Guy Raymond Jordan Sr. and Anna Belle Morgan Jordan. Mrs. Wise was a member of Avery United Methodist Church. She had worked as a bookkeeper at Dille Motor Freight for 351/2 years prior to her retirement. She was a member of Washington Senior Citizens and had attended Washington High School. In 1940, she married William Neal Adams, who died in 1945. Surviving are a brother, Jack Carlton Jordan of Calabash, N.C.; three grandchildren, Edward M. Yankovitch, Kathryn Ann Kazarick and Jodi L. Raymond; and two great-granddaughters. Deceased are a daughter, Patricia Jane Yankovitch; and a brother, Guy Raymond Jordan Jr.

Jack E. Day
Former millwright and member of UAW
Jack E. Day, 68, of Kent, Ohio, formerly of Greene County, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998, in Hospice Care Center, Copley, Ohio. Mr. Day was born January 24, 1930, in Brownsville, a son of James O. and Alma Althea Blankenbeckley Day. He had lived in Ohio since 1969. Mr. Day was was a millwright at General Motors Terex Plant in Hudson, Ohio, and was a member of United Auto Workers of America. He was in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ohio. He was a past member and past president of Clarksville Volunteer Fire Company. Mr. Day was Protestant. On March 19, 1949, he married Ruth Moore Day, who died November 10, 1995. Surviving are a son, Jack W. Day of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Billie Kuhns of Kingwood, W.Va., and Eileen Booze of Waynesburg; and three brothers, James Day of Walston, Robert Day of Walston and Darrell Day of Clarksville. Deceased are a daughter, Ruth Ann Hively; an infant brother and twin siblings, Dorothy L. and Donald E. Day; and a sister, Naomi Day.

Hugh Harkins Jr.
Corning Glass retiree was WW II prisoner of war
Hugh Harkins Jr., 76, of Union Township, Finleyville, died Tuesday, December 1, 1998, in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. He was born April 6, 1922, in Courtney, a son of Hugh Sr. and Jenny Payne Harkins. Mr. Harkins retired in 1971 from U.S. Steel, Gary Works in Gary, Ind., after 30 years. He was then employed by Corning Glass Inc. of Charleroi for several years before retiring. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, with the 101st Airborne Division, entering in 1943 and training in the paratroop division. He took part in the invasion of northern France and was missing in action. Of 21 months overseas, 11 were spent in a German prisoner of war camp. Mr. Harkins was a member of Mingo Presbyterian Church, Finleyville; the Improved Order of Red Men 253 and the Arros Haymakers Association 253-1/2, both of New Eagle; American Russian Citizens Club, American Legion Frank Downer Post 302, Sutman Yohe Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1409, all of Monongahela, and American Legion Post 613 of Finleyville. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving is his wife, Lucille Thomas Harkins, with whom he celebrated 55 years of marriage on July 27. Also surviving are three sons, James W. and Rick Harkins, both of Hebron, Ind., and John Thomas Harkins of Schererville, Ind.; a sister, Betty Jane Robinson of Gastonville; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, Donald, James William and John Harkins; and a sister, Beverly Dzubay. Memorial contributions may be made to Mingo Creek Presbyterian Church, 561 Mingo Church Road, Finleyville, PA 15332. American Legion Frank Downer Post 302 will hold services at 7 p.m. Friday.

Thelma H. McEwen, 89, of Farmington Hills, Mich., died Saturday, November 28, 1998, in West Bloomfield Nursing Home, West Bloomfield, Mich. She was born March 21, 1909, in Connellsville. Mrs. McEwen was active in Girl Scouts and political organizations. Surviving are a daughter, Jean Donn Jacquin; three grandchildren; and a sister, Laura Belle Askew. Services were held in Farmington, Mich.

Gloria E. Marks O'Connor, 83, of Twinsburg, Ohio, formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, December 2, 1998. She was born March 19, 1915, in Middletown, Conn., a daughter of Joseph Franklin and Anna Louise Sauermann Marks. Surviving are two sons, Robert A. of Amity and Thomas M. O'Connor of Washington; two daughters, Marsha L. Foster of Stow, Ohio, and Susan B. Piontkowski of Twinsburg; eight grandchildren, four step-grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren; a brother, Russell Marks of Tolland, Conn.; and a sister, Lillian Cordone of Avon, Conn. Deceased are her husband, Arthur T. O'Connor; five sisters and a brother.

Mary Ann B. Stipetic Pfeil, 66, of Finleyville, died Tuesday, December 1, 1998, in Jefferson Hospital. She was born May 5, 1932, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Peter and Anna Cindrich Stipetic. Mrs. Pfeil was a member of Church of the Nazarene of Monongahela. She was employed as a floral designer at Giant Eagle in Finleyville. Surviving are a daughter, Debra Kelly of Whitehall; a son, Robert Pfeil of Finleyville; three grandchildren, Christopher, Rebecca and Craig Kelly; and two brothers, John Stipetic of Texas and William Stipetic of Arizona Deceased are a brother, Joseph Stipetic; and a sister, Catherine Carrola.

Elizabeth Brock
Teacher in West Virginia
Elizabeth Brock, 92, of Broadview Avenue, Fairmont, W.Va., formerly of Charleston, W.Va., died at 3 a.m. December 27, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness. She was born September 23, 1906, in Salem, W.Va., a daughter of Frank and Byrd Hall Ransell. Mrs. Brock was employed as a teacher in Charleston for many years. She was a member of Central Methodist Church in Fairmont and was a member of the American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Phi. She was a graduate of Parkersburg (W.Va.) High School, received a master's degree from Marshall University and received an undergraduate degree from Miami University. Her husband, Clarence A. Brock, is deceased. A daughter, Sabra Brock of Manhattan, N.Y., survives.

Helen Baily Kerr, 74, of Carmichaels, died at 9:07 p.m. Monday, December 28, 1998, at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a lengthy illness. She was born April 23, 1924, in Bakerton, a daughter of John W. and Ruth Ethel Cuddy Stephenson. Mrs. Kerr resided in the Carmichaels and Greensboro areas most of her life, and was a member of the Mapletown High School Class of 1943. She was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels and a former member of Carmichaels Women's Civic Club and Carmichaels Area Chamber of Commerce. Her first husband, James C. Baily, whom she married in 1945, died July 29, 1960. In 1965, she married Lawrence L. Kerr, who died February 22, 1990. She and her husband, Larry, owned and operated Carmichaels Floral for 20 years. Surviving are a daughter, Debbie Criste of Summersville, W.Va.; two sons, J. Craig Baily and William S. Baily, both of Carmichaels; 10 grandchildren, Greg Criste, Kelly Cook, Heather Wachter, Whitney Criste, Mariah Criste, Bryan Baily, Kevin Baily, Jason Baily, Taylor Baily and Miranda Baily; a brother, Jack Stephenson of Englewood, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Dolores Nopwaskey

Dolores Nopwaskey, 69, of Fredericktown, died Tuesday, December 29, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, following a lengthy illness. She was born February 12, 1929, in Fredericktown, a daughter of Anna Moslar. Mrs. Nopwaskey was a lifelong resident of Fredericktown. She was a graduate of East Bethlehem Township High School and a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church of Fredericktown. Mrs. Nopwaskey was a cook and waitress for many years at Bartoletti's Hotel in Fredericktown. Surviving are four daughters, Joanne Orris of West Brownsville, Mary Ann Leasure of Carrollton, Ga., Bernadette Nopwaskey of Fredericktown, and Pamela Copland of Idabel, Okla.; four sons, James Nopwaskey of Clarksville, William and Thomas Nopwaskey, both of Fredericktown, and George Nopwaskey of Franklin, Ga.; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Deceased are her husband, John George Nopwaskey, who died in 1985; and a grandson, Austin Nopwaskey, who died June 27, 1997.
