Dolores C. Haley, 71, Kings Court, Washington, formerly of Fredericktown, died at 2:26 a.m. Tuesday, December 8, 1998, in her home. She was born March 8, 1927, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of John Valentine and Florentine Elizabeth Thiery Dixon. Mrs. Haley attended Immaculate Conception Church in Washington. Surviving are two sons, Daniel W. Haley of Valparaiso, Ind., and William R. Haley of Washington; five grandchildren, Shawn, Stacy, Michael, Miranda and Christina Haley; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Thiery Dixon of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Marilyn Asturi and Mary Cochran, both of Pittsburgh; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are her husband, William F. Haley, who died November 4, 1987; and a brother, Robert Dixon.

Thomas John Kapusta
Member of St. Francis of Assisi Church
Thomas John Kapusta, 44, of Patterson Road, Finleyville, died Monday, December 7, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born Sunday, August 15, 1954, in New Eagle, a son of John J. Kapusta of Finleyville and the late Anne Svac Kapusta. Mr. Kapusta was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Church of Finleyville and also attended First Baptist Church of Monongahela. He was a 1972 graduate of Monongahela High School. Mr. Kapusta was employed as a driver by Patterson Supply Co. of Monongahela, was formerly employed as a carpenter by USX Homestead Works and also worked privately as a truck driver and heavy equipment operator. Surviving are his wife, Becky Frye Kapusta of Finleyville; his stepmother, Audrey Kapusta of Finleyville; two daughters, Jenice Aileen and Sarah Anne Kapusta, both at home; four sisters, Dolores Katus of McCandless Township, Marie Pietroboni of Denver, Colo., Carol McVicker of Butler and Judith Williams-Channell of Finleyville; and several nieces and nephews.

Bernard Kobosky
Former baker at the Washington County Home
Bernard B. Kobosky, 93, of 239 Spruce Street, Canonsburg, died Monday, December 7, 1998. He was born in Chicago, Ill., on February 7, 1905, a son of Walter and Julie Ashinski Kobosky. Mr. Kobosky spent most of his life in Canonsburg, where he served on Canonsburg Borough Council from 1941 until 1953, and was a member of St. Genevieve Church. Prior to his retirement in 1974, Mr. Kobosky was a baker at the Washington County Home for 45 years. On February 5, 1930, in St. Genevieve Church, he married Mary Oshinski Kobosky, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Dr. Bernard J. Kobosky of Pittsburgh; a brother, Kenneth Kobosky of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren, Janet Kobosky and Bernard J. Kobosky Jr.; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three sisters, Sophia Gorby, Helen Burnette and Charlotte Lear.

Betty J. Kudlac

Betty J. Kudlac, 67, of Washington, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998, in Presbyterian SeniorCare, Washington. She was born April 17, 1931, in Houston, a daughter of Joseph and Marcella Herlin Hordies. Mrs. Kudlac was a member of St. Patrick Worship Site. She had worked for RCA in Meadow Lands. On February 16, 1966, she married George Kudlac, who died May 31, 1991. Surviving are two brothers, Ronald and Donald Hordies, both of Houston; two sisters, Pauline Raciborsky of Waynesburg and Barb Sikora of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is one son, Ronald Keisling.

Martha D. Provateare of Seville, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998, in Seville. She was born in Waynesburg, a daughter of Chum and Maud Feaster Lewis. Mrs. Provateare was a homemaker. Surviving are a daughter, Linda Chriver of Seville; two sisters, Edith Brown of South Carolina, and Mary Jean Lewis of Warren; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a niece, Delores Cox. Deceased is her husband, Tom Provateare. There will be no visitation. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Northfield, Ohio. Arrangements were made by Carlson Funeral Home, Medina, Ohio.

Karen Elizabeth Rusilko, 41, of Camp Hill, died Monday, December 7, 1998, in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. She was born February 15, 1957, in Edinburg, Texas, a daughter of Julia Ann Rodriguez Champion Smith of Edinburg and the late Alex Champion. Mrs. Rusilko was a graduate of Tarkio College in Missouri, where she received a degree in business administration. She was employed by Blue Shield in Camp Hill as a claims examiner. On November 2, 1988, in Missouri, she married Christopher K. Rusilko, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Xiomara Renee Saenze of Camp Hill; three brothers, Alex Champion III and Charles Champion, both of Edinburg, and Chris Champion of Corpus Christi, Texas; three sisters, Cathy Slayton of San Benito, Texas, Lucille Jenevein of Austin, Texas, and Cindy Ramirez of McAllen, Texas; her stepfather, Robert Smith of Edinburg; and several nieces and nephews.

Vincent Sacco
Owner of Jim Sacco's Beauty Salon for 38 years
Vincent "Jimmy" Sacco of Allison Avenue, Washington, died Monday, December 7, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in Washington, a son of the late Anthony and Rose Spatafore Sacco. For 38 years, Mr. Sacco was a self-employed beautician and owner of Jim Sacco's Beauty Salon in Washington. He was a 1959 graduate of Washington High School, a graduate of Irene's Beauty Academy and a member of St. Hilary Roman Catholic Church of Washington. Surviving are his son, Vincent James Sacco of Washington; three brothers, Frank Sacco of Meadow Lands, and Dominic Sacco and Anthony Sacco, both of Washington; two sisters, Clara Graham of Washington and Mary Ann Trapuzzano of South Carolina; and many nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles. A brother, Samuel Sacco, is deceased.

Fred L. Young
Member of VFW, American Legion in Waynesburg
Fred L. Young, 65, of 3365 Durst Clagg Road, Cortland, Ohio, died Tuesday, December 8, 1998, in his home, following a lengthy illness. He was born January 31, 1933, in Lippencott, a son of David and Bertha Franks Young. Mr. Young had resided in Cortland since 1963 and worked for 25 years as a tool and die maker at American Welding in Warren, Ohio, retiring in 1990. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4793 and James T. Farrell American Legion Post 330, both in Waynesburg. Mr. Young enjoyed motorcycling, fishing, camping and traveling. On February 16, 1955, he married Martha Smith, who survives.

Christine Ahacic
Strabane woman retired from RCA
Christine Ahacic, 86, of Strabane, died at 10:24 a.m. Sunday, February 8, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospitals, Canonsburg, following a lengthy illness. She was born August 27, 1911, in Stringtown, a daughter of Matthew and Mary Verhovnic Ahacic. Ms. Ahacic lived most her life in Strabane, where she was a member of SNPJ Lodge 138. She served in the U.S. Army from 1943-46 in World War II. For 28 years, she was employed by RCA in Canonsburg and Meadow Lands, until her retirement in 1976. Surviving are five sisters, Mary Bizzack of Penn Hills, Louise Ahacic of Orlando, Fla., Julia Tapper of Monroeville, Anne Hoskinson of Costa Mesa, Calif., and Frances Johnston of Grove City, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a brother, John W. Ahacic.

Ann C. Houlihan

Ann C. Houlihan, 85, of Washington, died at 2:15 p.m. Sunday, February 8, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington. She was born October 3, 1912, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Joseph and Constance Helen Gedra Slavinsky. From 1947 until her move to Washington in 1993, Mrs. Houlihan lived in Huntington W.Va., and most recently lived in Bellmead Senior Care Campus. On September 2, 1935, she married John J. Houlihan, who died October 28, 1995. Surviving are a daughter, Judith Geary of Washington; a sister, Mrs. John Barrett of Stowe Township; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Brust, Maura Simonds, Sheila Miklos and Noah M. Geary; four great-grandchildren and 20 nephews and nieces. Deceased are three brothers and two sisters.

Catherine M. Kalan
Former Midway resident was renowned traveler
Catherine M. Kalan, 80, of Washington, formerly of Midway, died Monday, February 9, 1998, at Washington Hospital. She was born May 15, 1917, in Primrose, daughter of Joseph and Katherine Klemencic Kalan. Miss Kalan was a homemaker and a renowned traveler. Surviving are two sisters, Julia Jobkar of Eighty Four and Mildred Bistarkey of Espyville. Deceased are two brothers, Joseph and Edward Kalan.

Eugene T. Ruttle
Employed many years by mining industry
Eugene T. Ruttle, 84, of Bethel Park, died Sunday, February 8, 1998, at Allegheny General Hospital. He was born October 29, 1913, in Denning, Ariz. Mr. Ruttle was a graduate of The Missouri School of Mines; was employed by the Mathies Coal Co., later Consolidated Coal Co.; and retired from the U.S. Bureau of Mines in 1976. He was a member of St. Valentine Church for more than 50 years, where he took part in many activities including ushering, the Men's Club and senior citizens group. Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Loretta Fithian Ruttle; four daughters, Betty Keister of Marlborough, Conn., Mary Lou Ruttle of Pittsburgh, Phyllis Jaworski of Hope Mills, N.C., and Dorothy Ruttle of Canonsburg; two grandsons, Jeff and Scott Jaworski; three brothers, Gilbert Ruttle of Shreveport, La., Raymond Ruttle of Fort Smith, Ariz., and Robert Ruttle of Belleville, Ill.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles G. Schaum
Ohio resident formerly of Charleroi
Charles G. Schaum, 65, of North Ridgeville, Ohio, died Friday, February 6, 1998, in Thorpes Personal Care Home, Charleroi. He was born March 28, 1932, in Charleroi, a son of the late Charles C. and Mary Heisler Schaum. Mr. Schaum formerly lived in Charleroi and Monongahela and was Catholic. He was a 1950 graduate of Charleroi High School, was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of VFW Post 9871 of North Ridgeville, Ohio. He was retired from Elyria Foundry and was formerly employed at Combustion Engineering of East Monongahela. Surviving are two sons, Charles Schaum of Monongahela and Victor Schaum of North Ridgeville, Ohio; a daughter, Michelle Day; a brother, John Schaum of Charleroi; and four grandchildren, Stephani and Jaclyn Day and Chuckie and Christopher Schaum. Deceased are two sisters, Maryann Kennedy and Patricia Bachetti.

Robert James Seibel
Former Hazel Atlas employee was veteran
Robert James Seibel, 82, of Caldwell Avenue, Washington, died at 4 a.m. Monday, February 9, 1998, in his home, following a lengthy illness. He was born April 30, 1915, in Canton Township, a son of Anthony and Rose Miller Seibel. Mr. Seibel was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Washington. He had been employed by Hazel Atlas Plant No. 2 and was also employed by Penn Cable. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in the 1262nd Service Command. On April 30, 1937, he married Geraldine Virginia Grove, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Lois Ruffner of Naples, Fla., Barbara Waychoff of Washington and Sandra Tustin of Canonsburg; a sister, Mildred Roupe of Washington; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, John, Albert and Joseph Seibel; and two sisters, Marie Marchicak and Rose Reilley.

Claude A. Slavonia
Retired with 40 years service at Wheeling-Pitt
Claude A. "Beet" Slavonia, 58, of First Street, Elco, died Sunday, February 8, 1998, in Uniontown Hospital. He was born February 14, 1939, in Stockdale, a son of the late Stephen Slavonia and Mae Minkovich Slavonia of Roscoe, who survives. Mr. Slavonia was a lifelong resident of the five-town area and was a member of St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church of Roscoe. He served in the U.S. Army during peacetime and was a member of American Legion Post 801 of Roscoe. He was a life member and former chief and financial secretary for Stockdale Volunteer Fire Department and a member of Roscoe Slovak Club. Mr. Slavonia was retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp.'s Allenport plant as a payroll clerk with 40 years of service. He and his wife, Irene Nonack Slavonia, celebrated 17 years of marriage on July 15, 1997. Surviving are five stepdaughters, Suzanne Loftus of Bentleyville, Jackie Loftus and Mickey Bokel, both of Phoenix, Ariz., Kitty Bowen of Tucson, Ariz., and Sheri Loftus of Roanoke, Va.; six grandchildren, Timothy, John and Amanda Bowen, Melinda and Brett Bokel and Jessica Loftus; a sister, Cindy Reeves of Spring, Texas; two brothers, Stephen Slavonia of Monessen and Dennis Slavonia of Speers. Deceased is a stepdaughter, Jeanie Loftus.

Genevieve B. Wise
Nursing assistant at Presbyterian Senior Care
Genevieve B. Wise, 80, of Washington, died Monday, February 9, 1998, in Washington Hospital following a one-week illness. She was born June 30, 1917, in Washington, a daughter of Louis S. and Mary Lynch Vandever. Mrs. Wise was a member of Immaculate Conception Church of Washington. She attended Trinity schools, and worked for Metro Glass Co., retiring in 1978. Following her retirement, she worked as a nursing assistant at Presbyterian Senior Care for the next 13 years. On July 16, 1937, in Oakland, Md., she married Clyde C. Wise, who died November 22, 1980. Surviving are two daughters, Janice K. Sten of Washington and Linda L. Sproat of Prosperity; two sisters, Madlyn V. Bebout and Evelyn M. Vandever, both of Washington; four grandchildren, D.L. and Stacy Lyn Sten and Bryan J. and Abby Lyn Sproat; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a daughter, Mary Lou Wise; a brother, Louis Vandever; and a sister, Helen M. Courson.

Ethel Wolowski
Foster mother for years
Ethel Wolowski, 68, of Finleyville, died Saturday, February 7, 1998, as a result of an automobile accident. She was born August 19, 1929, in Finleyville, a daughter of Joseph and Eleanor Phillips Webster. For several years Mrs. Wolowski had been a mother to many foster children and cared for them in her home. She was also a member of Brightwood Christian Church, Bethel Park. Surviving are her husband, Norman A. Wolowski; two sons, Sean Wolowski, at home and Richard Wolowski of Atlanta, Ga.; three daughters, Bonnie Basso and Shirley Wolowski, both of Gastonville and Nancy Wolowski, at home; two brothers, Harold P. Webster of Finleyville and Donald O. Webster of the state of California; a sister, Shirley Cavanaugh of Washington; and six grandchildren, Jamie, Jackie, Page, Michael and David Wolowski and Christy Basso.

George M. Zamiska
Richeyville resident worked at LaBelle Mine
George M. Zamiska, 82, of Scenery Drive, Richeyville, died unexpectedly Sunday, February 8, 1998, in Brownsville General Hospital's emergency room. He was born June 20, 1915, in Cokeburg Junction, a son of George Thomas and Anna Elizabeth Relovsky Zamiska. Mr. Zamiska attended St. Clements School (now Ave Maria School) in Ellsworth. He worked at J&L Steel Corp.'s LaBelle Mine processing plant as a mechanic and heavy equipment operator. He served with the U.S. Army as a sergeant during World War II. Mr. Zamiska was a member of St. Agnes Church in Richeyville, UMWA Local 762 and the James G. Blaine VFW Post 4 of West Brownsville. Surviving are a son, Albert J. Zamiska of Beallsville; two daughters, Georgia Mousourakis of Silver Lake, Wis., and Judy K. Gudel of Daisytown; 11 grandchildren, Jeffrey D., Jason D., Justin A. and Jessica R. Zamiska, Mark A., Gary W. and Kimberly A. Mousourakis, Amy Brudnik Gudel, Scott, Jill and David Gudel; two great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are his wife, Rose Ann Patsik Zamiska, who died February 26, 1991; a brother, Tom "Barney" Zamiska; and three sisters, Anna Wall, Mary Ivcic and Catherine Zamiska.

Elizabeth Bertolina
Lifelong resident of Monongahela
Elizabeth Bertolina, 78, of Hudson Avenue, Monongahela, died Tuesday, February, 10, 1998, at Washington County Health Center. She was born Monday, March 3, 1919, in Monongahela, a daughter of John and Margaret Crotti Pietroboni. Mrs. Bertolina was a lifelong resident of Monongahela, where she was a member of St. Anthony Church and its Altar Rosary-Christian Mothers. On November 12, 1997, she celebrated 59 years of marriage with her husband, Louis Bertolina, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Donna Timko of Monongahela; a son, Ronald Bertolina of Pittsburgh; six grandchildren, Ronald, Robert and Roger Bertolina, Christine Deutsch, Lisa Caramela and Daniel Timko; two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Martin Pietroboni of New Eagle, John and Raymond Pietroboni both of Monongahela; and two sisters, Dora Tomlinson of Monongahela and Mary Pietroboni of New Eagle. Deceased are two brothers, Gildo and Jerome Pietroboni.

Lois Marie Cassels
Lifelong member of Cool Branch Baptist Church
Lois Marie Cassels, 85, of Inman, S.C., died Monday, February 9, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington. She was born June 1, 1912, in Shelton, S.C., daughter of William Huey Alexander and Isabelle Lyles Traylor Stevenson. Mrs. Cassels was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Cool Branch Baptist Church, the Women's Missionary Union and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Coleman Lodge. She was first married to James Edward Hood Sr., who died November 7, 1978. In 1980, she married William Robert Cassels Sr., who died September 16, 1982. Surviving are two daughters, Elizabeth H. Todd of Eighty Four and Peggy Stacy of Dallas, Texas; six grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Deceased are her son, James Edward Hood Jr., and a sister, Lossie S. Holland. Funeral services will take place at Cool Branch Baptist Church, Blair, S.C., with burial in the Cool Branch Baptist Church Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the Church of the Covenant, Washington, at a time and date to be announced later. The family requests that those wishing to make memorial contributions direct them to the Capital Stewardship Program, Church of the Covenant, 267 East Beau Street, Washington, PA 15301.

Art Conn
Mesta Machine guard was born in Washington
Art Conn, 80, of Bethel Park, died Sunday, February 8, 1998, at Horizon Senior Care, Canonsburg. He was born December 30, 1917, in Washington, son of Homer F. and Mary E. Chamberlan Conn. Mr. Conn was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Bethel Park. He was a guard at Mesta Machine and was a mason with Lodge 761 in Bethel Park. Mr. Conn served as a fireman first class with the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was married to Emma A. Jacobs Conn, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Wedron A. Jr. of Avella and Charles W. of Baldwin; one daughter, Marjorie A. Conn of Bethel Park; six grandchildren; two brothers, John and Bill Conn; four sisters, Florence, Myrna, Ruth and Charlotte.

Oscar E. Jeffers
U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II
Oscar E. Jeffers, 79, of McGovern Road, Houston, died Sunday, February 8, 1998, at Allegheny University Hospitals, Canonsburg. He was born February 17, 1918, in McGovern, Chartiers Township, a son of Michael Z. and Cora V. Kennedy Jeffers. Mr. Jeffers was a retired truck driver, having been employed by Pyramid Oil Co. He was a social member of the Bears Club in Meadow Lands and was a member of Meadow Lands Sportsmens Club. He was a veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of VFW Post 927, Washington. On November 13, 1939, he married Cecelia Buchte, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Oscar E. Jeffers Jr. of Altamonte Springs, Fla., Jeffrey Z. Jeffers of Douglas, Wyo.; a daughter, Laurel Y. Cameron of Weirton, W.Va.; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. He was the last of his immediate family. Eight brothers and three sisters are deceased. Services and interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Mary Jane Mrenak
Mary Jane Ogrin Mrenak, 90, of Clinton, died Monday, February 9, 1998, at South Side Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born July 22, 1907, in Germany. Her husband, Charles Mrenak, is deceased. Surviving are four sisters, Agnes Peternel, Ann Kumer, Clara Carness and Rose Petro; and a brother, Anthony Sakely.

Ellen E. Piatt, 74, of Rex Road, Washington, died at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in the Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness. She was born August 22, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of Paul and Florence Matilda Hartzell Burt. She was a former employee of Duncan Miller Glass and a member of Wolfdale Chapel. On June 29, 1942, she married Warner L. Piatt, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Warner P. Piatt of Washington; two daughters, Ellen Florence Donahoo of Scenery Hill and Connie Roble of West Middletown; two brothers, Robert and Kenneth Burt both of Washington; four sisters, Mae Frye of Claysville, Betty Chase and Iva Morris both of Washington and Eva Morris of Lone Pine; nine grandchildren, Melissa and Dan Donahoo, Barbara, Ellen, Jim, and John Roble, Lynn Grabiak, Margaret Kelley and Barbara Smith; and five great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, who died in infancy; and three brothers, Clarence, Walter and Duane Burt.
