Frederick H. Plank
Retired from PA Securities and Exchange Commission
Frederick H. Plank, 74, of McMurray, died Monday, February 9, 1998, at Washington Hospital. He was born February 23, 1923, in Pittsburgh, a son of Harry and Katharine Kerr Plank. Mr. Plank was a member of Center Presbyterian Church for 42 years, where he had served as a trustee. He attended Carnegie Mellon University, University of Pittsburgh and Penn State University. In 1983, he was appointed by Gov. Richard Thornburgh to the Pennsylvania Securities and Exchange Commission, from where he recently retired. He had been the former group vice president of McGraw-Edison and was the former chairman of Lectromelt Furnace Co., Pittsburgh. Mr. Plank was former governor and division chairman of the National Electric Manufacturers Association. He had formerly been president of Nomad Enterprises in Meadow Lands and had been vice president and general manager of Superior Concrete Products, Houston. He was managing partner for Resource Associates and was a former member of American National Standards Institute, a member of the Foundry Equipment Manufacturers Association and Pennsylvania Concrete Manufacturers Association. He was a former director and founder of the United Way of Southwestern Pennsylvania, was director of Canonsburg General Hospital for five years and was Man of the Year in Canonsburg in 1965. He was active with the Junior Achievement Association for Retarded Citizens and was on the Washington County Child Welfare Advisory Board. He was also a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army, 69th Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star. On July 23, 1950, he married Kathleen W. King, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Stephen Plank of Castle Shannon; a daughter, Lisa Bordner of Bentleyville; one granddaughter, Christyna Bordner. A half brother and one sister are deceased.

Margaret Arrigoni
Lawrence resident graduated from Duff's
Margaret Arrigoni, 71, a lifelong resident of Lawrence, Hill Station, died Monday, February 9, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospitals, Canonsburg. She was born December 29, 1926, in Lawrence, a daughter of Anthony and Barbara Paroli Arrigoni. She was a graduate of Cecil High School and Duff's Business School, Pittsburgh. Surviving are two sisters, Dora Arrigoni of Lawrence and Elizabeth Battista of Fort Edward, N.Y.; a brother, Thomas W. Arrigoni of Lawrence; and many nieces and nephews. Deceased are three sisters, Ann, Dena and Sylvia Arrigoni; and two brothers, August and George Arrigoni.

Carol Ann Bodnar
30-year employee of Flushing Shirt, Waynesburg
Carol Ann Bland Bodnar, 59, of 355 Stewart Hill, Waynesburg, died at 5:06 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, following a brief illness. She was born November 23, 1938, in Franklin Township, Greene County, a daughter of Hazel I. Shultz Morris of Waynesburg R.D.5 and the late Harold Russell Morris. Mrs. Bodnar was a 1957 graduate of Waynesburg High School and a member of First Assembly of God in Eastview. She worked as a service employee at Flushing Shirt factory in Waynesburg for 30 years. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are a daughter, Susan R. Swarrow of Waynesburg R.D.5; a son, J. Doug Bland of Waynesburg R.D. 1; four grandchildren, Rachelle, Danielle and Joshua Bland and Nicholas Swarrow; five sisters, Margaret (Peg) Wilson of Waynesburg R.D.4, Helen Jean Crayne and Janet Lippencott, both of Waynesburg R.D.5, Darlene Aarons of Langhorn and Karen Barber of Smithfield; three brothers, Harold W. Morris of San Jose, Calif., Edward R. Morris of Waynesburg R.D.2 and Carlton Morris of Waynesburg R.D.5; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased is a sister, Anita Morris.

John Davis
Bentleyville resident served with Marines during WW II
John "Chubby" Davis, 72, of Hazel Street, Bentleyville, died Wednesday, February 11, 1998, in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born July 20, 1925, in Bentleyville, a son of George Sr. and Rena Solomon Davis. Mr. Davis attended Bentleyville High School and once worked as a bartender for the Independent Club and former Abbadini's, both of Bentleyville. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Marine Corps as a corporal. He was Syrian Orthodox and a member of the Lithuanian Club of Bentleyville. Surviving are a brother, George Davis Jr. of Lighthouse Point, Fla.; two sisters, Mary Marinese of Redford, Mich. and Romaine Karnack of Bentleyville; a niece, two nephews and a grandniece. Deceased is a brother, James "Moose" Davis.

Mike Hoosac
Former employee of U.S. Steel
Mike Hoosac, 79, of Lake Worth, Fla., died Sunday, February 8, 1998. A native of Monongahela, he relocated to Florida in 1976. During and after a career with U.S. Steel, he also worked as a professional gambler and golf pro, drawing opponents from all over Western Pennsylvania. Surviving are his son, Kirk of Lakeworth; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. His son, Michael, died in 1990. A memorial service is being held February 12 in Lake Worth. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Hospice by the Sea Inc., 1531 West Palmetto Park Road, Boca Raton, FL 33486.

Irene L. Hughes
N.C. resident retired nurse from Canonsburg
Irene Louise Fetcko Hughes, 55, of Charlotte, N.C., died Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in Presbyterian Hospital, Charlotte. She was born February 17, 1942, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Helen Holowich Fetcko of Houston and the late Albert Fetcko. Mrs. Hughes was a graduate of Presbyterian School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, and was a retired registered nurse. Selected as the Multiple Sclerosis Volunteer of the Year in 1996, she was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, where she served on the Hope and Disability Committee. Surviving, in addition to her mother, are her husband, Joe; three sons, Joe of Lilburn, Ga., Bob of Andover, Mass., and Kevin of Floral Park, N.Y.; a daughter, Kyra of Charlotte; a granddaughter, Rachel; and a brother, William Fetcko of Washington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Greater Carolinas Chapter, 9844-C Southern Pines Boulevard, Charlotte, NC 28273.

Irene Lois Runkle
Retired from Carborundum Corp., Neville Island
Irene Lois Cochenour Runkle, 90, formerly of Coraopolis, died Wednesday, February 11, 1998, in Washington. She was born October 3, 1907, in McKeesport, a daughter of Charles E. and Laura McMarlin Cochenour. Mrs. Runkle was a member of Coraopolis United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women. She worked for Standard Steel Spring Co., Coraopolis, and Carborundum Corp. on Neville Island, prior to her retirement. Her husband of 53 years, Talferd S. Runkle, died May 11, 1980. Surviving are two sons, Jack M. Runkle of Monongahela and Ralph L. Runkle of Chapel Hill, N.C.; three grandchildren, Amy Criss, Ronald Runkle and Todd Runkle; eight great-grandchildren; and one niece and one nephew. Deceased are three sisters, Alice Cochenour, Agnes Nolder and Florence Bahl; and three brothers, James, Charles and Howard Cochenour. She was the last of her immediate family.

Roberta G. Stogran

Roberta G. Stogran, 72, of Allison, formerly of Vestaburg, died at 9:25 p.m. Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va. She was born October 27, 1925, in Brownsville, a daughter of Robert and Frances Radcliffe Underwood. Mrs. Stogran was a homemaker and a member of El-Shaddia Bible Church of Uniontown. Surviving are four sons, Michael of Tobyhanna, Robert of East Millsboro, Richard of Allison and John Stogran of Clarksburg, W.Va.; two daughters, Mary Childs of East Millsboro and Frances Porter of Allison; 14 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Underwood of Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; three sisters, Evelyn Chenger of East Millsboro, Dorothy Reinsel of Stratenville and Bernadine Wible of California; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are her husband, Michael Stogran Sr., who died in 1964; and two sisters, Wanda Maison and Katherine McHale.

Mary Teagarden
Carmichaels resident formerly of Crucible
Mary Teagarden, 68, of Vine Street, Carmichaels, formerly of Crucible, died at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born August 25, 1929, in Crucible, a daughter of Stephen F. and Mary E. Lucas Dolansky. Until the past year when she resided in Carmichaels, Mrs. Teagarden lived most of her life in Crucible where she was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church. She was a homemaker. Surviving are her husband, Percy D. Teagarden, who she married in 1948, and with whom she celebrated their 50th anniversary. Also surviving are a son, Percy D. Teagarden Jr. of Crucible; three daughters, Catherine Krosinger of Waynesburg, Alice Butler and Mary Carr, both of Carmichaels; six grandchildren, Percy, Mary and Alice Carr, Renda Butler, Catherine Cole and Cathy Headlee; a great-grandson; four brothers, George and Ed Dolansky, both of Texas, John Dolansky of Missouri and Bernard Dolansky of Rices Landing; three sisters, Catherine Lewis of Fredericktown, Ann Martinez of Cleveland, Ohio, and Helen Visnesky of Fairless Hills. Deceased are four brothers, Francis Joe, Adam, Stephen Jr. and Paul Dolansky; and two sisters, Margaret Cunningham and Gertrude Holmes.

Incomplete information was provided for the obituary of Mary Teagarden of Vine Street, Carmichaels, that was published Thursday. Omitted were the names of two grandchildren, John Carr and Bill Carr.

Thomas Thistlethwaite
Word has been received of the death of Thomas H. "Tip" Thistlethwaite, 81, of Philadelphia, who died February 1, 1998, after a lengthy illness. He was born March 22, 1916, in Morgan Township, son of Thomas C. and Laura Miller Thistlethwaite. Surviving are a son, Alan J. Thistlethwaite of Bala Cynwyd; a daughter, Dale Thistlethwaite of Philadelphia; a brother, Dick Thistlethwaite of Jeffferson. Deceased are his wife, Doris Ruhland Thistlethwaite; and three brothers, J. Eli Thistlethwaite, Clyde Thistlethwaite and Harold Thistlethwaite. Burial was Feb. 7 in Philadelphia.

Olan Y. Williams
Mon Valley music teacher known for his musicals
Olan Y. Williams, 84, of Monongahela, died Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg. He was born May 26, 1913, in California, a son of William Winton and Eva Yarnall Williams. Mr. Williams spent most of his life in Monongahela. He received his bachelor of science degree in education from California State Teachers College and his master's degree in education from Duke University, Durham, N.C. He was a music teacher for 40 years in California and Marianna and was highly acclaimed for his musicals and operettas. Mr. Williams was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, holding the rank of sergeant with the 77th Division in the South Pacific. He was a member of Magic City, Mon Valley and Washington bridge clubs, holding the rank of life master. He was also a member of Monongahela Valley Country Club, AARP and Monongahela Senior Citizens Center. He also held memberships in PA State Education and National Education associations. Mr. Williams traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Mexico, Canada and Caribbean Islands. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie Grace Jones Williams, who he married June 4, 1943, and with whom he renewed vows on May 12, 1996; a son, Dr. Thomas Kriston Williams of Donora; and a grandson, Michael Thomas Williams. Deceased is a sister, Retta Mae Williams.

Georgia Zacharias
Finleyville resident
Georgia Zacharias, 81, of Finleyville, died Tuesday, February 10, 1998, in Sidney Square Personal Care Home, Pittsburgh. She was born August 20, 1916, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of George and Anna Bednick McEwan. Surviving are two sons, Jack F. Zacharias of Finleyville and Jim Zacharias of Manassas, Va.; a daughter, Mary Ann Dubosh of Nevada; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Pearl Boiaroff
Member of St. Nicholas Russian Church, Marianna
Pearl Boiaroff, 84, of Washington, died Friday, February 13, 1998, in Kade Nursing Home. She was born April 20, 1913, in Cokeburg, a daughter of Mike and Anna Patasky Fenosiff. Mrs. Boiaroff attended Marianna schools and was a member of St. Nicholas Old Believers Russian Church in Marianna. She worked at the Roosevelt Hotel in Pittsburgh for many years and also at the Auld and George Washington hotels in Washington. On May 19, 1957, she married Michael Boiaroff, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Robert Schubart of Detroit, Mich.; a brother, Thomas Fenosiff of Bethel Park; three sisters, Mary Dolmovich of Clearwater, Fla., Edith Sandretto of Pittsburgh and Agnes Alifimoff of Cheswick; two grandchildren, Michael Schubart and Annette Bucan; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Samuel Fenosiff; and a sister, Kathryn Curran.

Glenn Clark
Self-employed farmer and contractor
Glenn Clark, 93, of West Walnut Street, Washington, died at 12:15 p.m. Friday, February 13, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington. He had been ill since January. He was born August 23, 1904, in Wellsboro, a son of Ralph and Grace Wilson Clark. Mr. Clark lived in the Washington area for the past 40 years and was a self-employed farmer and contractor. He was Methodist. On July 2, 1964, he married Velma Virginia McCabe, who died October 12, 1992. Surviving are two brothers, Wayne W. Clark of Mansfield and Fay R. Clark of Wellsboro. Deceased are two sisters, Ruth Campbell and Phyllis.

Robert Ferl Gray
Waynesburg resident formerly of Holbrook
Robert Ferl Gray, 81, of Waynesburg, formerly of Holbrook, died at 8:10 a.m. Friday, February 13, 1998, in Clarksburg Veterans Hospital, Clarksburg, W.Va., after a lengthy illness. He was born April 25, 1916, in Marshall County, W.Va., a son of Charles Golden and Christine Malott Gray. He had lived in Holbrook for several years prior to moving to Waynesburg in 1992. Mr. Gray was a member of Moundsville Church of Christ, Moundsville, W.Va. He was a former employee of Wheeling Steel and Fostoria Glass in Wheeling where he worked for about 18 years. He was last employed as a school bus driver by Jesse Chapman in West Greene School District and was a self-employed farmer in Holbrook prior to moving to Waynesburg. Mr. Gray was a veteran of World War II, serving as a private first class in the U.S. Army with Company B, 805th Engineer Battalion and received the Asiatic Pacific Ribbon with two bronze stars, the American Defense Service Medal with one bronze star and the Good Conduct Ribbon. Surviving are his wife, Pearl Marie Oliver Gray, whom he married October 18, 1943; three sons, Charles L. Gray of Carmichaels, Ronald Gray of Glen Easton, W.Va., and Wayne Gray of Waynesburg; three daughters, Sandra Wilcox of Middlebourn, W.Va., Mary Gray of Canonsburg and Elaine Sampson of Cameron, W.Va.; a brother, Frank Gray of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Berneeda Rine of Steubenville, Ohio, and Betty Wayte of Moundsville, W.Va.; 14 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Robert Michael Gray; six brothers, James, Lester, Festus, Francis and Milton Gray and George Lemasters and four brothers in infancy; two sisters, Evelyn P. Blake, Sadie Wayte and two infant sisters, Aleeda and Gladys Gray. There will be no public visitation for Mr. Gray. All services will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

Norma Jean Hlipala

Norma Jean Tedrow Milliken Hlipala, 57, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Waynesburg, died at 6:30 a.m. Friday, February 13, 1998, in UPMC-Beaver Valley Hospital, following a brief illness. She was born June 11, 1940, in Richhill Township, a daughter of the late Cecil Edward and Thelma Margaret Kerr Tedrow. Mrs. Hlipala resided in Waynesburg, East View and Rio Rancho, N.M., prior to moving to the Pittsburgh area in 1997. She was a former member of East View United Methodist Church and a member of Mesa Baptist Temple in Rio Rancho, N.M. Mrs. Hlipala was a founding member of Greene County Association of Retarded Citizens and was an active volunteer with the Special Olympics while residing in New Mexico. She was a 1959 graduate of Waynesburg High School and attended Waynesburg College and Case-Western Reserve in Cleveland, Ohio. She was a former employee of WVU Hospital in Morgantown, W.Va., as a ward clerk where she received an Outstanding Service Award for 10 years of service. She was last employed as a residential instructor for the Association of Retarded Citizens of Albuquerque, N.M. for six years. Surviving are two daughters, Christy Milliken of Pittsburgh, with whom she made her home, and Cynthia Blake of Charleston, W.Va.; two sons, Michael Hlipala of Pittsburgh and Steven Mark Hlipala of Bobtown; a sister, Shirley Mae Bauer of Glenshaw; a brother, William Harold Tedrow of Mt. Sterling, Ohio; and three grandchildren, Joshua Hlipala, Luke and Mason Blake. Deceased are her first husband, Dale L. Milliken; three brothers, Hubert Tedrow, Cecil E. Tedrow Jr. and Benjamin Tedrow; and a sister, Patricia Tedrow, who died in infancy.

Joseph Jindra
WW II veteran retired from McGraw-Edison
Joseph Jindra, 77, of Houston, died at 6:10 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 1998, in Manor Care, McMurray. He was born October 23, 1920, in York Run, a son of Frank and Matilda Blatnica Jindra. Mr. Jindra was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church, Canonsburg, and the Catholic Mens Club of St. Patrick Parish. He was a member of the VFW Post 191 of Canonsburg and American Legion Post 902 of Houston. An avid fisherman, Mr. Jindra was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He also received a Purple Heart. Mr. Jindra worked as a machinist for 35 years at McGraw-Edison, Canonsburg, prior to retiring in 1983. He lived in the Canonsburg-Houston area for the past 60 years. On December 6, 1945, he married Julia M. Doubnich, who died February 7, 1992. Surviving are three daughters, Elizabeth J., Mary Jo and Julie M. Jindra; a brother, Rudolph Jindra; a granddaughter, Amanda Dino; and several nieces and nephews. Seven brothers and sisters are deceased.

Lucille Kimtantas
Former army nurse served during WW II
Lucille Kondrat Kimtantas of Miami Springs, Fla., formerly of Clarksville, died Friday, February 13, 1998, at Memorial Pembroke Hospice in Pembroke Pines, Fla. Mrs. Kimtantas was born in Pittsburgh, the daughter of Leonard and Caroline Urevich Kondrat. She was a registered nurse who served in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. Mrs. Kimtantas was a life member of the Disabled Veterans. She had lived in Clarksville for 30 years before moving to Florida in 1944. Her husband, Charles Kimtantas, died in 1982. Surviving are a daughter, Caroline Clements of Pembroke Pines, Fla.; and a son, Charles Kimtantas of Sugarland, Texas. Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be published in a later edition.

Alice N. Lyle
Washington resident born in Taylorstown
Alice N. Lyle, 94, of Broad Street, Washington, died at 7:20 a.m. Friday, February 13, 1998, in Washington Hospital following an 18-month illness. She was born August 20, 1903, in Taylorstown, a daughter of Harry H. and Esther McCain Risher. Mrs. Lyle was a homemaker, attended the Christian Church of North America and was a member of AARP. On March 2, 1921, she married Wray Lyle, who died September 6, 1990. Surviving are two sons, Merle C. Lyle of Cleveland, Ohio, and John H. Lyle of Burgettstown; four daughters, Esther E. Gump, Stella M. Walker and Doris Iseman, all of Washington and Elizabeth Mitchell of Canonsburg; a sister, Gladys Nalley of Hagerstown, Md.; 20 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, Raymond R. Lyle; a daughter, Florence A. Tush; a brother, Harry Risher; two sisters, Helen Grieser and Viola Skeen; and a great-grandson, Robert Mitchell III.

Joseph F. Maize
Engineer with Ohio's transportation department
Joseph F. Maize, 77, of 317 James Street, Dover, Ohio, died Friday, February 13, 1998, in Union Hospital, following an apparent heart attack. He was born December 7, 1920, in Langeloth, a son of John and Mary Sokol Maize. Mr. Maize retired in 1983 as a civil engineer for the Ohio Deptartment of Transportation (ODOT), where he worked for 33 years. He was a 1939 graduate of Jefferson High School in Jefferson, and received his civil engineering degree from West Virginia University in Morgantown in 1950. Mr. Maize was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran, serving as a motor machinist first class aboard PT Boat 217. He received the Victory Medal, American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific, Navy and Marine Corps, European-African-Mideast and Good Conduct Medals. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in New Philadelphia, life member of Dovers Elks Lodge and participated in the golf league. He was a former bowler and enjoyed golf, building model boats and gardening. Surviving is his wife, Madolyn Louise Wood Maize, with whom he would have celebrated 50 years of marriage on June 16. Also surviving are two sons, Jaf B. Smith Maize and Brian "Gil" Maize, both of Dover; three grandchildren, Amber Nycole, Seth Gilmore and Shane Joseph Maize; a brother, Ramon Maize of Dover; a sister, Virginia Warren of Chandler, Ariz.; an adopted brother, John Shimo of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, John, Richard, Donald and Robert Maize.
