Paul A. Martin, 45, of Tucson, Ariz., formerly of Peters Township, died Friday, July 24, 1998, in Tucson. He was born July 16, 1953, in Fairfax, Va., a son of Virpi Martin of Greene County and the late Steve Martin. Surviving, in addition to his mother, are a sister, Anne Pandolfo of Peters Township; two brothers, Stephen Martin of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Peter Martin of Tucson; and a nephew, Ian Prindle of Canonsburg.

Florence G. Miller
Amity woman was homemaker and farm wife
Florence G. Miller, 83, of Amity, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in Franklin Care Center, Waynesburg. She was born October 26, 1914, in Amity, a daughter of Nathan and Lucy Loar Hatfield. Mrs. Miller attended Montgomery School in Amity and was a homemaker and farm wife most of her life. She was a longtime member of Washington Methodist Church. In March 1940, she married Merle Miller, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Roger Miller of Arizona; a sister, Dorothy Cooke of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, John Hatfield; and five sisters, Pearl Sanders, Minnie Mitchell, Neva Hatfield, Sarah Elliott and Ruth Gray.

Nora Jean Simpson
Member of former Hickory church
Nora Jean Simpson, 83, of Orwell, Ohio, died Sunday, July 26, 1998, in Village Square Nursing Home, Orwell, following a lengthy illness. She was born March 23, 1915, in Buffalo, a daughter of Lawrence and Mae Dunn Davidson. Mrs. Simpson worked as a salesclerk for J.C. Penney Co. in Ridgeville and was a member of the former Mt. Prospect Presbyterian Church in Hickory. She enjoyed gardening, traveling and sewing. On June 15, 1934, she married Alvin H. Simpson, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Richard Simpson of Queen Creek, Ariz.; two daughters, Nancy Willis of Washington and Ruth Ann Easton of Orwell; two brothers, Louis Davidson of Taylorstown and Cline Davidson of Hickory; two sisters, Hilda Wagner of Hickory and Janet Weimer of Glascow, Mont.; 16 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Renzi and Richard Davidson.

Nelrose S. Tustin
Active in Willow Grove Independent Baptist Church
Nelrose S. Tustin, 80, of Waynesburg R.D.4, died at 10:40 a.m. Monday, July 27, 1998, in Rolling Meadows Nursing Home, Waynesburg, after a lengthy illness. She was born April 20, 1918, in Center Township, a daughter of Hicey Ray and Ada Hamilton Stewart, and had been a resident of Center Township most of her life. Mrs. Tustin was a member and former Sunday school teacher and pianist at Willow Grove Independent Baptist Church. She was a 1963 graduate of Center Township High School and attended Waynesburg College. On July 27, 1940, she married Roy Albert Tustin, who died January 20, 1983. Surviving are a son, Carl E. Tustin of Waynesburg R.D.4; two sisters, Helen Marie Stewart of Waynesburg and Gerry Stewart of Waynesburg R.D.5; two grandchildren, Carla Renee and Roy Travis Tustin; and one great-grandson.

The obituary of Nelrose S. Tustin, published Tuesday, should have stated that she was a 1936 graduate of Center Township High School.

Justin Robert Adams
Attended Canon-McMillan High School
Justin Robert Adams, 19, of Eighty Four, died Monday, July 27, 1998. He was born February 15, 1979, in Washington, a son of Abigail Chambers Adams of Eighty Four and the late Michael Adams. He was a member of Chartiers Hill Presbyterian Church, Canonsburg, and attended Canon-McMillan High School. Mr. Adams spent his life in the Eighty Four area. He was a construction worker and an avid bow hunter and fisherman. He also enjoyed caving, dirt bike riding and rappelling. Surviving are two brothers, Dwayne and Phillip Adams, both of Eighty Four; one sister, Nicole Shuman of York Springs; a maternal grandmother, Cleta Chambers of Canonsburg; a paternal grandfather, Frank W. Schaal of Slippery Rock; and one nephew.

George R. Bedillion
Member of First Baptist Church
George Robert Bedillion, 79, formerly of North College Street, Washington, died at 8:25 p.m. Monday, July 27, 1998, in Washington County Health Center. He was born November 30, 1918, in Pancake, a son of Robert and Effie Sutton Bedillion. Mr. Bedillion was a member of First Baptist Church. He had been employed as a melter on the electric furnace for McConway and Torley Corp. Foundry in Lawrenceville, retiring in 1973, and had formerly been employed by Blaw-Knox Corp. Mr. Bedillion attended Trinity High School and served with Headquarters Company 110th Infantry in the National Guard. In 1963, he married Myrtle Miller, who died in November 1983. Surviving are a son, the Rev. James Robert Bedillion; a sister, Lillian Drylie of Washington; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a son, George W. Bedillion; five brothers, Ira "Pickles", Orville, Frank, Louis and Edward Bedillion; and three sisters, Iva Yeager, Elsie Ricketts and Jennie Phillips.

Lena Steele Beebe
Former executive director of Washington YWCA
Lena Steele Beebe, 88, formerly of Washington, died Monday, July 27, 1998. She was born in Miracle Run, W.Va., a daughter of Lester and Phoebe Steele. Mrs. Beebe retired as executive director of the YWCA in Washington in the mid-1970s and was an avid bridge player. Surviving are her son, Richard P. Beebe; a grandson, Richard Beebe; and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held Thursday, July 30, at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens, Morgantown, W.Va.

Lloyd J. Bonner
U.S. Navy veteran served during Korean conflict
Lloyd J. "Doc" Bonner, 67, of Atlasburg, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He was born February 9, 1931, in Smith Township, a son of Hope F. and Clara Jockum Bonner. Mr. Bonner was an ironworker until his retirement, working out of Local 3 of Pittsburgh. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict and was a member of Atlasburg Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6490. On November 16, 1957, in Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown, he married Charlene "Sis" Duffey Bonner, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Bartoletti and Kathy Lonick, both of Burgettstown; two grandchildren, Jennifer and John Bartoletti; and two brothers, Frank Bonner of Ocala, Fla., and Danny Bonner of Washington.

Mary "Minnie" Clandy

Mary "Minnie" Clandy, 98, of 121 North Central Avenue, Canonsburg, died at 8:10 a.m. Monday, July 27, 1998, in her home. She was born August 8, 1899 in Gallatin, a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Kostyo Komenda. She was a shear operator at Continental Can Co. when it was in Canonsburg and spent the last 92 years of her life in Canonsburg. She never married and was the last member of her immediate family. Surviving are two nieces and two nephews. Deceased are two brothers, Andrew and Frank Clandy; and two sisters, Helen Patterson and Ann Popp.

William L. Eckels
Milk truck driver for more than 25 years
William L. Eckels, 81, of Washington, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in his home. He was born July 9, 1917, in Cameron, W.Va., a son of James H. and Ella Riser Eckels. Mr. Eckels was a self-employed livestock hauler and farmer in the Washington County area most of his life and had also been employed as a milk truck driver for more than 25 years for the Washington County Area Farmers Co-op. Mr. Eckels enjoyed participating in horsepulling competitions throughout the tri-state area. On June 9, 1937, he married Kathryn Morris Eckels, who died in 1971. Surviving are a son, William L. Eckels Jr. of North Jackson, Ohio; two sisters, Ruby Lyons of Ravenna, Ohio, and Hilma Workman of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are three brothers, O. Ralph, Walter and James Eckels; and a sister, Grace Porter.

Besse S. Gladden
Descendant of pioneer family from Cross Creek
Besse S. Gladden, 91, a lifelong resident of McDonald, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in Southminster Place, Washington. She was born March 7, 1907, in Burgettstown, a daughter of Lawrence and Carrie Warwick Stephenson. Mrs. Gladden was a descendant of a pioneer family who settled in Cross Creek, Washington County. She was a 1925 graduate of McDonald High School. Mrs. Gladden was a member of Trinity United Presbyterian Church, McDonald Women's Club, Fort Vance Historical Society and McDonald Garden Club. Surviving are a son, Judge Thomas D. Gladden of Washington; two grandchildren, Thomas D. Gladden and Laura Gladden Maloy; and four great-grandchildren. Deceased are her husband, George Gladden, who died in 1980; and a sister, Izetta Sheaff.

Marvin Layton Hughes
Retired from W.Va. Department of Highways
Marvin Layton Hughes, 73, of Dallas, W.Va., died Monday, July 27, 1998, in his home. He was born October 12, 1924, in Dallas, a son of Loyd and Elizabeth Kimmins Hughes. Mr. Hughes retired as a night watchman with the West Virginia Department of Highways in Triadelphia. He attended Dallas Community Presbyterian Church and Salem Methodist Church, Majorsville. Mr. Hughes was a member of the Dallas Volunteer Fire Department. Surviving are his wife, Mary Ethel Bowman Hughes; two daughters, Nancy Murrin of Dallas and Beverly J. Porter of Triadelphia; a brother, Charles of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a sister, Zelma Caldwell of Claysville; and three grandchildren, Jerry Murrin Jr., Dustin J. Murrin and Jesse A. Porter.

Rudolph Albert Lazek
Cooper retiree played minor league baseball
Rudolph Albert "Rudy" Lazek, 71, of Greene Street, Houston, died at 11:55 p.m. Monday, July 27, 1998, in his home. He had been ill since December 1996. He was born July 20, 1927, in Washington, a son of John and Josephine Malik Lazek. Mr. Lazek was a member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church. He had been employed as a coil stacker at Cooper Industries, retiring after 37 years of service. Mr. Lazek played minor league baseball with the Union City baseball team and was a member of the Old Timers Baseball organization. He enjoyed bowling. Mr. Lazek served in the U.S. Navy and was a graduate of Trinity High School. On August 2, 1965, he married Frances Agnes Kovacic, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Janice Lynn Krewson of Washington; a brother, John Lazek of Washington; a sister, Margaret Guidas of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Roxie M. Winters Liggett, 82, of Henderson Avenue, Washington, formerly of Independence and West Middletown, died Tuesday, July 28, 1998, in her home. She was born March 20, 1916, in Washington, a daughter of Cretus and Cynthia Rogers Winters. A Presbyterian, she was a homemaker. On August 30, 1934, she married Alexander R. Liggett, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Frances "Brother" Liggett and Larry B. Liggett, both of Claysville; eight daughters, Norma Rubin and Patty Edmonds, both of Titusville, Fla., and Joanne Longstretch, Nancy Hughes, Marie Seighman, Elizabeth Delasandra, Karen Rush and Vicki Amon, all of Washington; one brother, Homer Winters of Washington; one sister, Mary Ellen McKim of Steubenville, Ohio; 31 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. Deceased are one daughter, Cathy Liggett; four brothers, George, Lee, Brady and Robert Winters; and four sisters, Elizabeth White, Goldie Williams, Alda Kirchner and Maude Miller.
