William C. Atkinson, 86, of Waynesburg R.D.1, died Friday, May 29, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg. He was born March 21, 1912, in Dallas, W.Va., a son of Alice Atkinson. Mr. Atkinson was a retired farmer, who lived most of his life in the Wind Ridge area. On July 5, 1933, he married Mary Ross, who died March 23, 1992. Surviving is a daughter, Melissa Atkinson of Largo, Fla.

Leonard G. Bell
Horse owner was retired from Jessop Steel
Leonard G. Bell, 87, of Washington, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness. He was born January 12, 1911, in Greene County, son of John and Annie Woodruff Bell. In 1973, Mr. Bell retired from Jessop Steel after 38 years as a foreman of shipping inspection. He was an avid horseman, who owned and trained his own horses at The Meadows, Meadow Lands. He also enjoyed golfing and was a member of Rolling Green Golf Course, Eighty Four. On October 22, 1960, he married Mildred J. Jones, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Ronald M. Bell of Washington; three daughters, Lois J. Sinclair of Claysville, Eva Johnson and Linda Garrett, both of Washington; a brother, Harold Bell of Washington; a sister, Shirley Staley of Erie; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren. Deceased are a son, William L. Bell; a sister, Mildred Dobscha; three brothers, Merl, Donald and Norman Bell; his stepmother, Ethel Bell; and two former wives, Marguerite Cox Bell and Emma Snyder Bell.

Florence Leech Ely
Oldest member of East Buffalo Presbyterian
Florence Leech Ely, 99, of Washington, formerly of Buffalo Village, died Sunday, May 31, 1998, in Washington Hospital. She was born July 17, 1898, in Buffalo Village, a daughter of Nathaniel and Ada Moss Leech. Mrs. Ely had been a resident of Hillsview Personal Care Home in Buffalo Township. She was the oldest member of East Buffalo Presbyterian Church, Buffalo Township, where she was a teacher in the children's department, a teacher of the Pleasant Word class, a teacher of the Women's Bible class, and a member of the Women's Missionary Society. She served as secretary of the congregation for 25 years and was ordained an elder in 1965. Mrs. Ely also served as secretary of children's work for the Washington Presbytery for two, three-year terms. A 1916 graduate of Hopewell High School and a 1919 graduate of Washington Seminary, she taught school for a year and was a homemaker. Mrs. Ely was a local historian and enjoyed reading, crocheting and gardening. On October 7, 1920, in Buffalo Village, she married Alexander Ely, who died in 1964. Surviving are a son, Paul L. Ely of Washington; a daughter, Dorothy Huntley of Marion, Va.; a sister, Mary McGeoch of Indiana; five grandchildren, David and Greg Ely, Karen Cowan, Bob Huntley and Anne Huntley Speer; and five great-grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to her parents and husband, are a son, Harold Ely, who died in 1935; and five brothers, Ira, Verner, Elmer, Irwin and Sam Leech.

Gertrude Rogalski

Gertrude Rogalski, 83, of 313 Valley Road, Canonsburg, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Manor Care, McMurray. She was born April 5, 1915, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of Michael J. and Anna Dombrowska Dobrzynski. She spent most of her life in the Canonsburg area, where she was a homemaker and a member of St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church. On November 9, 1947, she married Adolph Rogalski, who died September 21, 1948. Surviving is a daughter, Lorraine Rogalski of Canonsburg. Deceased are a brother, Edward Dobrinski; and three sisters, Martha Wagner, Blanche Remen and Genevieve Oelschlager.

Charles J. Rubis Jr.
Canonsburg man served with the National Guard
Charles J. "Fire" Rubis Jr., 51, of 433 Giffin Avenue, Canonsburg, died at 12:35 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospitals-Canonsburg. He was born August 13, 1946, in Canonsburg, son of Charles J. Rubis Sr. and Rose Salvi Rubis of Canonsburg. He was a lifelong resident of Canonsburg, where he was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church. Mr. Rubis was employed as an expediter for McGraw-Edison for 27 years. Mr. Rubis also was a member of Muse Independent Club. He was a graduate of St. Patrick Catholic Grade School and a 1964 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School. He had attended Duquesne University of Pittsburgh for two years. For six years, Mr. Rubis served in the Pennsylvania National Guard with the 110th Infantry, 28th Keystone Division. Surviving, in addition to his parents, is a sister, Sharon Franconeri of Washington.

George B. Stegenga
Attorney dead at 77
A Washington attorney considered by his peers to be "one of the best trial attorneys at the bar," died Friday at his home following a brief illness. George B. Stegenga, 77, practiced civil and criminal law in Washington and also was a past-president of the Washington County Bar Association. Stegenga was well respected by his colleagues. "He's handled all kinds of cases and he handled them well. He was a solo practitioner," said Washington County President Judge Thomas D. Gladden, who knew Stegenga for more than 40 years. "He was considered by his peers to be one of the best trial attorneys at the bar." Washington County Judge Thomas J. Terputac said he respected George Steganga when he tried cases against him, and then later when Stegenga tried cases in Terputac's courtroom. "I've always had high regard for him and his abilities," Terputac said. "He was always well prepared and had a good sense of humor.' His son, George Steganga Jr., described his father as the backbone of the family. "He was probably the most compassionate, intelligent man I ever met. There were a lot of personal problems in our family and he never gave up on anyone," said George Steganga Jr. "He was the Rock of Gibraltar." Stegenga traveled extensively. He also was an antique collector and was widely recognized as an expert in early American pewter. He was born February 13, 1921, in Friesland, Holland. He was a member of First United Presbyterian Church of Houston, where he served as an elder and had taught Sunday School for many years. He graduated from East Washington High School in 1938 and Temple University in 1942. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Navy in the Atlantic Submarine Patrol and the Pacific Theater's Third Fleet under Admiral Halsey. From 1946 to 1949, he attended University of Pittsburgh Law School and became the editor of its Law Review in 1949. Stegenga's legal career included being president of the Washington County Bar Association in 1979, president of the Conference of Bar Leaders in 1983, a member of the House of Delegates from 1979 to 1989 and a member of the Pennsylvania Judiciary Committee from 1983 to 1987. He was a charter member of Canonsburg-Houston Lions Club and served a term as its president. He also was a member of the Fort Nightly Club. Surviving in addition to his son, George Stegenga Jr., are his wife, Betty Ingram Stegenga; another son, David I. Stegenga of Houston; three daughters, Jann Mumford of Crystal River, Fla., Dorothy Fryer of St. Louis, Mo., and Robin Fox of Erie; 10 grandchildren; a sister, Anna Jack of Fulshear, Texas; and a brother, Benjamin Stegenga of St. Clairsville, Ohio.

Ruth M. Stromblad
Former teacher in East Finley Township
Ruth Miller Stromblad, 97, of Claysville, died Saturday, May 30, 1998, at Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, following a lengthy illness. She was born December 11, 1900, in Claysville, daughter of Isaac Newton and Elizabeth Miles Miller. Mrs. Stromblad was a member of Claysville United Presbyterian Church, where she participated in the Missionary Association. She also was a member of the Women's Association of Pigeon Creek United Presbyterian Church and the Senior Citizens of Claysville. Mrs. Stromblad was a teacher in East Finley Township schools. Surviving are several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two husbands, T. Victor Stromblad and Todd M. Scott; four brothers, John, Clay, Harry and Ralph Miller; and a sister, Grayce Miller McClelland.

Carmine Zammetti
Former New Yorker member of Ave Maria Parish
Carmine Zammetti, 88, of Cokeburg, died at 12:15 p.m. Sunday, May 31, 1998, at his home. He was born October 1, 1909, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a son of John and Anna Verducci Zammetti. He owned and operated a taxi business in Long Beach, N.Y., and was also employed by the city of Long Beach before his retirement in 1973. Mr. Zammetti was a member of Ave Maria Parish, St. Lukes Church, Bentleyville. On October 10, 1936, in St. Lukes Church, he married Helen Luketich, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Stephen A. Zammetti of Long Beach; a brother, Charles Zammetti of Brooklyn; a sister, Josephine Zammetti of Island Park, N.Y.; and 10 grandchildren. Deceased, in addition to his parents, are a son, Robert J. Zammetti, who died September 11, 1997; four brothers; and five sisters.

Joseph A. Gogol

Joseph A. Gogol, 70, of Follansbee, W.Va., died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, at St. Francis Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Gogol was born March 1, 1928, in Washington, a son of Joseph M. and Veronica Gogol. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy in World War II and a member of the St. Anthony Catholic Church, Folansbee, W.Va. He retired from the Weirton Steel Corp., was a former owner of the Arthur Murray Dance Studio, Steubenville, an associate of Gogol Draperies, vice president of the Big Band 200 Dance Club, Wheeling W.Va., a committee member of Formals at Oglebay Park and the Wheeling Elks Lodge. Surviving are his wife, Eileen McAninch Gogol, at home; one son Jerry Gogol of Folansbee; one brother, Martin Gogol of Greensburg; one sister, Mrs. Elwood Laverne Amberik of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; two granddaughters, Dr. Lynette Gogol and Lisa Donich of Cleveland.

Hildegarde G. Jalowka
Retired pianist who played in many supper clubs
Hildegarde G. Jalowka, 73, of 266 Smithfield Street, Canonsburg, died Friday, June 5, 1998, in AUH, Canonsburg. She was born December 6, 1924, in Manheim, Germany, a daughter of Joseph and Elisabeth Hoffmann. Mrs. Jalowka was a resident of Canonsburg for 21 years. She was a retired pianist and had taken training in piano, acting and music. She had played in many supper clubs throughout the Pennsylvania and Ohio areas. Surviving are two sons, Steven Jalowka at home and Hans Beyer of Clearwater, Fla.; three daughters, Suzanne Jalowka of Bedford, Ohio, Annette Coyne of Orlando, Fla., and Sonja Straus of Boca Raton, Fla.; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Services will be private and at the convenience of the family.

Anna Marie Nuzum
Member of American Legion auxiliary in Houston
Anna Marie Nuzum, 48, of Canonsburg, died unexpectedly Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in her home. Miss Nuzum was born January 19, 1950, in Brooklyn, N.Y., a daughter of Raymond and Anna May South Myzak of Houston. She lived most of her life in Canonsburg and was a member of the St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish. She was a 1968 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School, was employed as a customer relations representative with the JCPenney Co. and was a member of American Legion Unit 902 Auxiliary in Houston. Surviving, in addition to her parents, are three brothers, Michael R. Myzak and Joseph A. Myzak, both of Washington and Raymond J. Myzak of Meadow Lands; and several nephews.

Anthony Popich

Anthony "Tanny" Popich, 43, of Muse, died Monday, June 8, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He was born February 13, 1955, in Canonsburg, a son of Lilly Saieva Popich of Muse, and the late Andrew J. Popich. Mr. Popich was a 1973 graduate of Canon-McMillan High School and lived most of his life in Muse. Surviving, in addition to his mother, with whom he made his home, are a sister, Charlotte Chome of Canonsburg; two brothers, Andrew J. Popich of Hazel Kirk and Jody J. Popich, serving with the U.S. Navy in Glen Bernie, Md.; and a nephew.

Hans A. Rauch

Hans A. Rauch, 70, of Route 3, Break Iron Road, in Morgantown, W.Va., formerly of White Sulphur Springs, W.Va., and Belpre, Ohio, died Monday, June 8, 1998, at his home. He was born February 24, 1928, in Stutgartt, Germany, a son of Franz and Theresa Hoermann Rauch. Mr. Rauch was a member of the St. Luke Roman Catholic Church in Morgantown. Surviving are his wife, M. Diane West Rauch; three daughters, Susan Sherman of Harrisonburg, Va., Nancy Bremar of Grantsville, W.Va., and Laura Rauch of Pine Hill, N.J.; two stepsons, David P. Venen and Daniel R. Venen, both of Rices Landing; a brother, Richard Rauch of South Canaan; six grandchildren, Erika, Alec, Kyle, Sherman, Ryan and Jon Bremar; and one stepgrandson, Daniel Venen. Deceased are his first wife, Rita Haschky Rauch; and a brother, Walter Rauch.

Mary Ann Bracale Santoro, 74, of 925 South Central Avenue, Canonsburg, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in AUH, Canonsburg. She was born March 13, 1924, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Jack and Josephine Colella Bracale. Mrs. Santoro was a lifelong resident of Canonsburg and was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg. She was a homemaker and a 1942 graduate of Canonsburg High School. On June 1, 1947, in St. Patrick Church with the Rev. Edward Istocin officiating, she married Angelo Santoro, who died August 22, 1980. Surviving are a daughter, Denise Santoro at home; a son, Dennis Santoro of Canonsburg; two brothers, John Bracale of Boyton Beach, Fla., and Sam Bracale of McKeesport; a sister, Rose Yorke of Canonsburg; and two grandchildren, Justin and Angela Santoro.

Anna Kopy Tulock, 83, of Horizon Senior Care, Canonsburg, and formerly of Wilna Street, Washington, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998. She was born June 3, 1916, in Charleroi, a daughter of Roman P. and Anna Burek Kopy. Mrs. Tulock worked for Hazel Atlas Glass Co. many years ago. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church and a member of the Russian Brotherhood Organization, both of Canonsburg. Deceased are her husband, George Tulock, who died in 1977; and two brothers, Pete and Steve Kopy.

Wayne H. Boyd

Wayne H. Boyd, 55, of Farley Street, Washington, died at 8 a.m. Wednesday, June 10, 1998, in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born July 15, 1942, in Pittsburgh, a son of Dolores Slater Woolever of Pittsburgh and the late Carl Wayne Boyd. Mr. Boyd was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, a member of ISDA and a social member of Canonsburg VFW Post 191. He was a 1960 graduate of Schenley High School, owned Boyd's Auto Trim and was an auto upholsterer for 20 years. On November 11, 1961, he married Margaret Ann O'Toole, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Mark W. and Keith W. Boyd, both of Washington; a daughter, Deborah Fortna of Canonsburg; a brother, Charles Woolever of Pittsburgh; three sisters, Darlene Dulkowski , Norma Kite and Diane, all of Pittsburgh; and six grandchildren, Larissa, Ben, Justin, Nicole, Sam and Natalie.

Charles Maxwell (Max) Carl, 63, of Gibsonia, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born March 26, 1935, in Vestaburg, a son of the late Charles C. and Mae Coulter Carl. Mr. Carl was a 1953 graduate of East Bethlehem Township High School and graduated from California State Teachers College in 1957. He was employed at Jones and Laughlin Steel Corp. in Cleveland, Aliquippa and Pittsburgh, retiring from J&L Specialty Steel in Midland with 41 years combined service. He was a member of Gibsonia Presbyterian Church, Strongsville Lodge 728 F&AM of Strongsville, Ohio, Syria Shrine of Pittsburgh, Sewickley Heights Gun Club and was active in scouting. Surviving are five children, Teresa Cole of Hopewell, Charles Carl Jr. of Oakland, Pittsburgh, William Carl of Gibsonia, Cynthia DiGiacobbe of Southampton, Amy Steifel of Cranberry Township; 10 grandchildren, Geoffrey, Ashley and Bret Cole, Kristi and Bill Carl, Kyle, Beverley and Leah DiGiacobbe, and Nathan and Jared Steifel; a brother, John Carl of Vestaburg; and his wife, Jennie Lybarger Carl of Clinton. Karen Urwin, of Beaver Falls, was a special friend and caregiver.

Cecelia M. Powell Mounts, 57, of Venetia, died Wednesday June 10, 1998, in AUH, Canonsburg. She was born August 17, 1940, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of William and Helen Holma Wilkes. Surviving are three sons, Richard G. Powell of Venetia, Robin R. Powell and Randy M. Powell, both of Finleyville; three daughters, Donna J. Chacko of Monongahela, MaryEllen Powell of Van Voorhis and Rebecca M. Klanchar of Eighty Four; 20 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Deceased are her first husband, Richard Powell; two children and two brothers.

Lois M. Reese

Lois M. Reese, 75, of Washington, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, in her home following a brief illness. Mrs. Reese was born November 25, 1922, in Washington, a daughter of Harry R. and Opal Seaton Mossburg. She was Protestant, attended Washington schools and was a homemaker. For 31 years, she worked for Walter Maxwell at his restaurant and bar. In 1947, she married Albert C. Reese, who died December 24, 1972. Mrs. Reese was previously married to Adam H. Kiehl of Washington. Surviving are two daughters, Patty Jean Kiehl Murphy and Linda Reese Poland, both of Washington; two brothers, Robert T. Mossburg Sr. of Washington and Harry Roger Mossburg Jr. of Zanesville, Ohio; one sister, Calista Zullo of Washington; one grandson, Frank Duane Poland Jr.; one granddaughter, Patrice C. Pash; and several nieces and nephews.

James W. Rosser
Korean veteran retired from Plastomer Products
James W. Rosser, 68, of Midway, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Rosser was born October 4, 1929 in Carnegie, son of Alice Tyson Rosser of Sturgeon and the late James W. Rosser. He graduated from South Fayette High School and served in U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from Plastomer Products in 1992 after 17 years' of service. On March 5, 1954, he married Janet Blaine, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Susan Rosser of Levittown and Deborah Rosser Gerard of Sturgeon; one sister, Ardith Hoberek of Sturgeon; and three grandchildren, James Rosser, Rachel Gerard and Joshua Gerard.

Thomas Masters Jr.

Thomas "Duck" Masters Jr., 64, of Jefferson R.D.1, died at 5:07 p.m. Thursday, June 11, 1998, at his home. He was born March 27, 1934, in Jefferson, a son of Thomas and Minnie Stewart Masters. Mr. Masters lived his entire life in Jefferson where he was Baptist. He was employed as a maintenance man for U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Surviving are a nephew, William "Bill" Masters of Fredericktown; a niece, Linda Masters of Waynesburg; and a great-niece, Mary Rollins. Deceased are two sisters, Weatha and Wilma Masters.

Betty Lou McFall

Betty Lou McFall, 69, of Windsor Road, Washington, died at 5:45 a.m. Thursday, June 11, 1998, in her home following an eight-month illness. She was born August 10, 1928, in Washington, a daughter of Frank Harold and Bertha Jane Anchors Jacobs. Mrs. McFall was a 1947 graduate of Trinity High School and was a former employee of Teeks Fine Shoes in Washington. Her husband, Clyde Allen McFall, is deceased. Surviving are two sons, Clyde Allen McFall Jr. of Pittsfield, Ill., and Frank Kendell McFall Sr. of Amity; a daughter, Lou Ann Rossman of Emlenton; a sister, Shirley Ann Umshares of Washington; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. Two brothers, Harold R. and Glenn D. Jacobs, are deceased.

Arabell M. Moon, 96, of Waynesburg R.D.3, formerly of Mather, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in Uniontown Hospital. Mrs. Moon, a homemaker, attended Mather Christian Church and was an active member of the Waynesburg Senior Citizens for the past 25 years.

Charlotte Munce

Charlotte Thomas Munce, 64, of Washington, died Tuesday, June 9, 1998, in Washington Hospital. She was born May 13, 1934, in Holiday's Cove, W.Va., a daughter of the late Louis Joseph and Anna Zabec Thomas. Mrs. Munce, a homemaker and Protestant, was a 1953 graduate of Washington High School. On November 12, 1956, in Washington, she married Roy S. Munce, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Thomas Munce of Eighty Four; three daughters, Rochelle Block of Washington and Karen Seabolt and Rolinda Nixon, both of Prosperity; a sister, Lois Varner of Kent, Ohio; 12 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a sister, Beverly Mastnock; and a grandson, Andrew Scott Nixon.

Ralph R. Palone

Ralph R. Palone, 67, of Gooding, Idaho, formerly of Greene County, died Thursday, June 4, 1998, at the Gooding County Memorial Hospital. He was born November 25, 1930, a son of Sam and Angeline Palone. Mr. Palone was raised and educated in the Carmichaels area and on July 2, 1952, in Accident, Md., he married Paula Sloboda. Mr. Palone served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1952 until 1954 and worked in Ohio for Ford Motor Co. for 16 years. He later moved back to Pennsylvania, where he worked as a cement contractor and also operated a nursing home. Afterward, he moved to Texas, where he operated a motel until ill health forced him to retire and move back to Pennsylvania. He moved to Gooding in October 1995 to be near his family. Mr. Palone was also a member of the American Legion in Gooding. Surviving are his wife, Paula; a son, Dino Palone of Roanoke, Va.; a daughter, Karen Ealy of Fairfield, Idaho; five brothers, Steve Palone of Carmichaels, Ernest Palone of Rices Landing, Edward Palone of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, Alfred Palone of Rices Landing and Eugene Palone of Florida; two sisters, Virginia Floreak of Carmichaels and Kate Zupanich of Rices Landing; four grandchildren; two foster grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and many nieces and nephews. Private family services will be held at a later date.

Charles Postic
Member of Holy Trinity Resurrection Church
Charles Postic, 87, of Marianna, died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at his home following a brief illness. He was born August 12, 1910, a son of Charles and Mary Paroda Postic. Mr. Postic attended the Clarksville area schools and was employed at Bethlehem Mine 57 at Marianna for more than 45 years. He was a member of the Holy Trinity Resurrection Church, Brownsville, and enjoyed playing cards. On July 27, 1935, he married Mary Dutkom, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Marion Ottena of Marianna and Dorothy Manning of Cincinnati, Ohio; two grandchildren, Anthony Ottena and Sharee Bailler; three stepgrandchildren, Douglas Manning Gregory Manning and Ellen Rice; four great-grandchildren; four sisters, Helen Fodella of Clairton, Sophie Downey and Eleanor Paroda both of Clarksville and Christina Kushner of Bobtown; and several nieces and nephews. Former resident played in Redskins Band
Sell Wilson Thomas Jr., 69, of Waldorf, Md., formerly of Washington, died Wednesday, June 10, 1998, in Forestville, Md. He was born April 22, 1929, in Washington, a son of Laura Mae Winston Thomas and Sell W. Thomas Sr. of Forestville, Md. Mr. Thomas was a former member of St. Paul AME Church in Washington. He was employed for many years as a liquor control manager for the State Liquor Store in the Washington County area, and later became employed for the federal government in Washington D.C., in the retirement claims department until he retired. Mr. Thomas was a 1947 graduate of Washington High School. He played the drums since childhood also played in the Washington High School Band. He later owned a quintet called "The Sell Thomas Quintet" and played in the Washington Redskins Band until a few years ago. He served in the U.S. Navy overseas. Surviving are his wife, Jeanette Boyd Thomas; a daughter, Connie Thomas of Washington; two sons, Gary Thomas of Washington and Ashton Thomas of Waldorf; two brothers, Charles E. Thomas of Waldorf and Raymond R. Thomas of Pomfret, Md.; two grandchildren, Rodney L. Thomas and Randy L. Thomas; and several nieces and nephews.

Frank Czernecki

Frank Czernecki, 89, of Marianna died Friday, June 12, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington, after a brief illness. Mr. Czernecki was born June 21, 1908, in Westland, a son of Joseph and Francis Fiec Czernecki. He spent his youth in Poland, coming to the United States where he was employed by Bethlehem Mines at Mine 58 for 40 years before retiring in 1968. He was a member of the St. Oliver Plunkett Parish of Sts. Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church, Marianna. He also was a member of the American Legion Post 744 of Marianna, the Marianna Field and Stream Club and the United Mine Workers of America. Mr. Czernecki enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and the outdoors. On January 4, 1966, he married Helen Molinets, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Frances A. Czernecki of Marianna; and several cousins.

Dewey Ray Gullick Sr., 56, of Ewing Street, Washington, died at 10:35 a.m. Friday, June 12, 1998, in AUH, Canonsburg. Mr. Gullick was born December 19, 1941, in Cheifhield, Ala., a son of Mary Helen Roland Gullick of Washington and the late Paul Russell Gullick Sr. He was a member of Church of Christ. He was an overhead craneman for the Fort Pitt Bridge Works and was last employed at Bowan Metal Deck of Heidelberg, from where he retired. He was a notary and operated Gullick's Notary Service. Mr. Gullick enjoyed boating, fishing and camping. On January 4, 1963, he married Paula Ann Bongia, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Dewey Ray Gullick Jr. of Washington, Kenneth Russell Gullick of Muse and David Ray Gullick of Philadelphia; three daughters, Tammy L. Brooks, Teresa A. May and Mary E. Bish, all of Washington; three brothers, Paul Russel Gullick Jr. of BonAire, Ga., William Richard Gullick of Florida and Danny Thomas Gullick of West Virginia; three sisters, Mary Elizabeth Beall of Maine, Peggy Sue Beamm of Georgia and Cecelia Ann Hunter of California; and eight grandchildren.

Amanda Ellen Williams Gump, 83, of Wana, W.Va., died Thursday, June 11, 1998, at home. She was born December 3, 1914, in Daybrook, a daughter of James B. and Celesta O. Tennant Williams. She was a retired schoolteacher, having taught for 38 years in Monongalia County Schools. She was a member of the County and State Retired Teachers Association, the Daybrook Church of Christ and the Sunset Rebekah Lodge No. 418 in Brave. Surviving are one son, Jack Gump of Valparaiso, Ind.; two daughters, Patricia F. VanTassel of Millington, Tenn., and Peggy Flynn of Wana; four brothers, Gearl Williams of Fairview R.D.2, W.Va., James "Pete" Williams of New Matamoras, Ohio, William "Dick" Williams of Waynesburg and Fred Williams of Fairview R.D.1, W.Va.; four sisters, Betty Lyons of Libertyville, Ill., Mable McAfee of Spring Hills, Fla., Roxie Tennant of Fairview R.D.2, W.Va. and Jane Wheeler of Huntington, W.Va.; eight grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren. Deceased are her husband, Raymond E. Gump, whom she married December 31, 1986; two brothers; and two sisters.
