Mike Frank Jr., 75, of Clarksville, died Friday, June 19, 1998, in his home. He was born December 20, 1922, in Meadow Lands, a son of the late Michael Sr. and Angela Stavania Frank. Mr. Frank was a retired farmer who was a member of the Washington County Farmers' Association. He was also a 50-year member of SNPJ Lodge 138, Strabane. Surviving are a sister, Mildred Valdiserri of Pittsburgh, and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a brother, Leon Frank, who was killed in World War II; and two sisters, Angela Tekavec and Jessie McGrosky. Graveside memorial services were held at 9 a.m. Monday, June 22, in Oak Spring Cemetery, with Agnes Engel, secreatry of SNPJ Lodge 138 of Strabane, officiating.

Margaret Giammarco
Former resident of Peters Township
Margaret Louise Caldwell Giammarco, 66, of Moreno Valley, Calif., formerly of Peters Township, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, in Moreno Valley Community Hospital. She was born May 21, 1932, in Washington, a daughter of Grace Eileen Zediker Caldwell of McMurray and the late Frederick Caldwell Sr. Mrs. Giammarco was a 1951 graduate of Peters Township High School and moved to California in 1960. She lived in Pico Rivera, Calif., until moving to Moreno Valley in 1990. She was a supporter of the Moreno Valley Community Band as assistant manager and had logged more than 3,500 miles as a mall walker at Moreno Valley Mall. In 1951, in Winchester, Va., she married David Giammarco, who survives. Also surviving are three daughters, Darcy Lee Myers of Rock Springs, Wyo., Tammy Goodman of San Diego, Calif., and Patricia Ann Giammarco of Moreno Valley; a son, Michael David Giammarco of Aeworth, Ga.; six grandchildren, Nicholas Adam and Matthew Ryan Goodman, Jessica Michael Myers, Christine Ann Neal and Krista Lynn and Domenick Onesimus Giammarco; a sister, Betty Cross Mull of Washington; and two brothers, Frederick Russell Caldwell Jr. of Canonsburg and David Cross of Florida.

Anthony J. Lawrence
Burgettstown resident formerly of Brentwood
Anthony Joseph "Bud" Lawrence, 67, of Burgettstown, formerly of Brentwood, died Sunday, June 21, 1998. He was born September 9, 1930, a son of Theodore Lawrence and Evelyn Schilling Lawrence. Mr. Lawrence was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1810 of Brentwood. Surviving are his wife, Rosemarie Borghi Lawrence; a son, Anthony Lawrence; three daughters, Renee Lawrence, Alisa Golonka and Donna Carter; a sister, Elizabeth Neumont; a brother, Ronald Lawrence; and three grandsons, Christopher Jeffreys and Brandon and Cory Carter.

John Nakovich
Marianna miner was Army veteran of WWII
John "Nock" Nakovich, 81, of Marianna, died unexpectedly Friday, June 19, 1998, in his home. He was born February 4, 1917, in Marianna, a son of Frank and Agafia Androshuk Nakovich. Mr. Nakovich attended West Bethlehem schools and was employed by Bethlehem Mines, Mine 58, in Marianna for more than 33 years. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post 744 of Marianna. He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed the outdoors. On November 18, 1940, he married Margaret Demko, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, John Nakovich Jr. of Herndon, Va., and Frank J. Nakovich of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Margaret Parrinello of Cranberry and Georgia Nakovich of Pittsburgh; and two grandchildren, Laura and John David Nakovich. Deceased are two sisters, Tillie Nakovich and Helen Zipko. Private visitation, service and interment were held at the family's convenience. Memorial contributions may be made to Sts. Mary and Ann Roman Catholic Church of Marianna.

Lynn G. Newstrom

Lynn G. Newstrom, 66, of Monongahela, died Saturday, June 20, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital. Mr. Newstrom was born October 24, 1931, in Donora, a son of the late Gust and Sarah Newstrom. He was retired from Kruman Equipment of Pittsburgh and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the Korean War. Mr. Newstrom was a member of the Monongahela Free Methodist Church. Surviving are a daughter, Kathy L. Smith of Monongahela; a son, Vaughn A. Newstrom of Belleville, Mich.; four grandchildren, Kelly Nardone and Joshua Smith and Charlene and Dustin Newstrom; one great-grandchild; four brothers, Raymond of Charleroi, Harold and Leonard of the state of California, and Howard of Iowa; three sisters, Edna Hogg of Charleroi, Ruth Gee of the state of California and Shirley Newstrom of Arizona. Deceased are an infant brother, Leroy; a sister, Mildred Ferdnandez; and his former wife, Helen S. Newstrom. Graveside services were held Monday, June 22, with the Rev. Bill Bailey officiating.

Anna Nickolas, 80, of Bunola, died Sunday, June 21, 1998, in Haven Crest Nursing Home, Carroll Township. She was born December 17, 1917, in New Eagle, a daughter of Theodore and Anna Hornyak Skirpan. Mrs. Nickolas was a member of Transfiguration Church in Monongahela She was formerly employed as a waitress at the Bentleyville Truck Stop. Surviving are a daughter, Betty Yost of Kokomo, Ind.; two grandchildren, Brad and Karen Yost; two sisters, Mary Myor and Helen Flowers, both of Monongahela; and a brother, Paul Skirpan of Charleroi. Deceased are her husband, Andrew Nickolas, who died in 1970; and three brothers, Mike, Joseph and Peter Skirpan.

Fred Palone Sr.
Owned auto dealership and auto repair garages
Fred Palone Sr., 83, of Rices Landing R.D.1 (Dry Tavern), died at 11:45 a.m. Monday, June 22, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington. He was born June 5, 1915, in Cumberland Township, Greene County, a son of Frank and Louisa Falgiani Palone. Mr. Palone was a graduate of Cumberland Township High School, Carmichaels, and resided in Dry Tavern most of his life. In his early working years, Mr. Palone owned and operated an auto repair garage in Serbiantown until entering the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II. He served as a sergeant in Dyersburg, Tenn., and was in charge of the motor pool for the base. After the war, he co-founded and operated Palone's Garage in Dry Tavern, a Buick and Jeep dealership, until 1959. He later worked as shop foreman for Marsolino Construction Co. of Uniontown for about 13 years until he opened his own auto repair garage at his home in Dry Tavern. Mr. Palone was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, served as a first lieutenant in the Civil Air Patrol and was a member of Brooks-Crago American Legion Post 816 of Rices Landing. On December 31, 1942, he married Kathryn V. McMasters, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Fred K. Palone Sr. of Naples, Fla., and Norman A. Palone of Mather; two daughters, Judith Bochnak and Kathy Clark, both of Dry Tavern; 10 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; three brothers, Arthur Palone of Carmichaels, Raymond Palone of Jefferson R.D.1 and Louis Palone of Dry Tavern; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are a daughter, Jane Annette Palone; and four brothers, Frank, Marion, Sam and Quinty Palone.

Suzanne Schumacher

Suzanne Mills Schumacher, 32, of Louisville, Ky., died Monday, June 15, 1998, in her home following a lengthy illness. She was born October 19, 1965, in Reynoldsburg, Ohio, a daughter of Stanley "Steve" and Alberta Jean Conaway Mills of Louisville. Mr. Mills was formerly of Waynesburg and Mrs. Mills was formerly of Wadestown, W.Va. Mrs. Schumacher was a member of Southeast Christian Church and a graduate of Eastern High School, both in Louisville. She attended Eastern Kentucky University. In 1989, she married Robin Schumacher, who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Hannah Ruth; two brothers, Stephen and John; and her maternal grandmother, Mona Conaway of Wadestown. Her grandparents, Chester and Ida Mills and Joseph Conaway, are deceased. Services were held June 18 in Louisville.

Frances P. Vaccaro
Former Monongahela physician
Dr. Frances Pappas Vaccaro, formerly of Van Voorhis Lane, Monongahela, died Thursday, June 18, 1998, in her residence in Naples, Fla. She was born in Athens, Greece, a daughter of the late Pericles and Stella Panagos Pappas. Dr. Vaccaro was a former member of St. Anthony Church in Monongahela. She was a graduate of Boston University and the Women's Medical College of Philadelphia. She served her internship and one year of residency at Mercy Hospital, Altoona. She went into private practice with her husband, Dr. Michael Vaccaro, in Monongahela, serving for many years prior to their retirement to Florida in 1972. Surviving are a son, Dr. Vincent M. Vaccaro of Naples, Fla.; a grandson, Michael Vincent Vaccaro of New York, N.Y.; two great-grandchildren; and a sister, Priscilla McCue of Donora. Deceased are her husband, who died August 8, 1990; and a son, Michael F. Vaccaro, who died April 22, 1996.

Pauline M. Wieser

Pauline McClure Wieser, 77, of St. Louis, Mo., died of A.L.S. Saturday, June 20, 1998, in her home. She was born May 1, 1921, in Van Voorhis, a daughter of Wilda and Blanche Strosnider McClure. Mrs. Wieser was a homemaker and a former resident of Waynesburg. She had lived in St. Louis for the past 48 years. On October 21, 1950, she married Dr. William F. Wieser, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kristy Kennedy and Leslie Wieser, both of St. Louis; two stepchildren, Pam Harley of Sacramento, Calif., and Doug Wieser of Dallas, Texas; a grandson, Jeff Kennedy; four stepgrandchildren, Jennifer and Matthew Wieser, Doug Christiansen and Elizabeth Harley; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, her twin brother, Paul, and Don and Ray McClure; and two sisters, Helen Porter and Thelma Hughes.

Stanton D. Eddy
U.S. Army corporal during WWII
Stanton D. (Stan) Eddy, 72, of Hillcrest Road, Wellsville, Ohio, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in East Liverpool City Hospital after a lengthy illness. Mr. Eddy was born January 10, 1926, in Brave, a son of Samuel Osborne Eddy and Tess Ruby Reeves Eddy. He lived most of his life in this area, working for Eichleay Corp. as superintendent of construction for more than 30 years before retiring in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps as a corporal during World War II, taking part in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Eddy was a member of the Iron Workers Union 207, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5647, American Legion Post 70, Elks Lodge 1040, F&AM Lodge 180 of Wellsville and Scottish Rite, Valley of Steubenville. He was Methodist. Surviving are his wife, Marjorie L. Fox Eddy, whom he married February 2, 1947; two sons, Jerry Eddy of Oakdale and Steve Eddy of Philadelphia; two daughters, Kay McGaffick of Chester, W.Va., and Karen Miller of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Robert Eddy of Pine Bank; one sister, Kathleen Leonard of Beaver Falls; five grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Deceased are three brothers and one sister. Burial will be at 3 p.m. Friday, June 26, in Pine Bank Cemetery, Pine Bank.

Fred W. Kowalo
Lifelong resident of Cecil Township
Fred W. Kowalo, 48, of Cecil Township, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in St. Clair Memorial Hospital. He was born February 2, 1950, in Cecil Township, a son of John and Yolonda Shimon Kowalo. Mr. Kowalo was a lifelong resident of Cecil Township and was employed as a cement finisher. He was an avid fisherman. On March 20, 1969, he married Athea Hans, who survives. Also surviving are one daughter, Deana Y. Safko of South Fayette Township; one son, Frederick E. Kowalo of Cecil Township; one sister, Delores Kowalo of Cecil Township; three brothers, John Kowalo of Scott Township, Nick Kowalo of Bulger and Dan Kowalo of Cecil Township; and two grandchildren, Alexxa Nicole Safko and Jenna Star Kowalo.

Paul James Maley Sr.

Paul James Maley Sr., 63, of Kenedy, Texas, died Monday, June 22, 1998, after a yearlong illness. He was a son of Anna Kifer Maley of Scenery Hill and the late Francis P. Maley. Mr. Maley was a Pennsylvania native and an outstanding college football player at California State University during the late 1950s. A knee injury ended his hopes for a professional career. He entered the U.S. Army in 1958, and during his two-year military hitch, he did research on the atomic bomb in the deserts of Nevada and Arizona. He was honorably discharged in 1960. Mr. Maley retired from Hercules Inc. in January 1998 after 21 years of service. He was a member and past president of Local 257 of the American Federation of Grain Millers, past president of Kenedy United Way and attended Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Mr. Maley spent the last 23 years in Kenedy, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time with his grandchildren and rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Lorraine Tam Maley; three sons, Paul Maley Jr. of Austin, Texas, John Maley of San Antonio and Mark Maley of Houston, Texas; four grandchildren, Penny, Sean, Monty and Emily; two brothers, Regis Maley of Fredericktown and Jerry Maley of Cokeburg; and several nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, in Eckols Funeral Home Inc. Interment in Kenedy Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Margaret Onuscheck

Margaret Sopp Onuscheck, 86, of 1290 Boyce Road, Friendship Village, Upper St. Clair Township, formerly of Nemacolin Heights, Beallsville, died at 4:25 a.m. Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Friendship Village Health Center. She was born June 22, 1912, in South Brownsville, a daughter of Michael and Mary Suchock Sopp. Mrs. Onuscheck was a member of St. Nicholas Byzantine Church of Brownsville, St. Nicholas Ladies Guild and Greek Catholic Union Lodge 57. She was a professional seamstress and a homemaker. On August 22, 1933, she married John Onuscheck who died in 1967. Surviving are a daughter, Dolores E. Bugaiski of Endwell, N.Y.; a son, John W. Onuscheck of McMurray; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Helen Molnar of Belle Vernon, Ann Stupar of Morgantown, W.Va., and Olga Sulik of Uniontown. Deceased are two brothers, Michael and John Sopp; two sisters, Elizabeth and Mildred Sopp; and a grandson, Christopher Onuscheck, who died in 1979.

Reason Earl Park, 90, of 122 Sportsman Lane, Waynesburg, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in Franklin Care Center, Waynesburg. He was born November 16, 1907, in Blacksville, W.Va., a son of Elias A. and Mary Henthorn Park. Mr. Park retired from Peoples Natural Gas Co. after 32 years of service. Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Ruby Olive Cummins Park, and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers and a sister are deceased.

Teresa Lynn Popham
McGuffey High School graduate enjoyed bowling
Teresa Lynn Lindley Popham, 32, of Bridgeville, died at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born September 12, 1965, in Washington, a daughter of Kenneth L. Lindley of Washington and Carole Lindley Malmgren of Scenery Hill. Mrs. Popham was a homemaker and a Catholic. She was a 1983 graduate of McGuffey High School. Mrs. Popham enjoyed bowling and bowled in leagues at Bridgeville Sports Haven, Alpine Lodge Bowling League, Washington, and Noble Manor Bowling League, Bowling City on Route 19. She had formerly played softball for the Dellovade team in Taylorstown and South Franklin Township Surviving are her husband, Duane Popham; a brother, Kenneth L. Lindley Jr. of Bentleyville; a sister, Lisa Lindley Meyers of Scenery Hill; paternal grandfather, Kenneth L. Lindley of Washington; maternal grandmother, Amelia A. Funk of Waynesburg; three nieces and two nephews. Deceased are a paternal grandmother, Teresa Lindley; and maternal grandfather, Henry L. Funk.

Mae Marie Sheller

Mae Marie Strope Sheller, 81, of Claysville, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Sheller was born April 1, 1917, in Taylorstown, a daughter of George W. and Dora Winona Wilson Strope. She was a member of Fairhill Manor Christian Church, where she had participated in the Balcony Class and the Christian Women's Fellowship. Mrs. Sheller was a homemaker and the baker for McGuffey Middle and Senior High School for several years. She enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, traveling and reading. On August 19, 1938, she married Gaylord Lee Sheller, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Samuel Lee Sheller of Fairfax, Va., and Gene Raymond Sheller of West Alexander; a daughter, Jane Winona Sheller Teagarden of Claysville; a sister, Martha Doman of Washington; four granddaughters, Melissa Jane Teagarden, Maria Consuello Sheller, Gena Rosalee Sheller and Samantha Lee Sheller; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are one son, Donald Wayne Sheller; one grandson, Timothy Lee Teagarden; five brothers, Raymond, James, Orval, Benjamin and Jehu Strope; and five sisters, Dorothy and Margaret Strope, Ruth Morris, Evelyn Wolfe and Grace Mounts.

Christopher Stedman

Christopher Stedman, 45, of Roscoe, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh. He was born in North Charleroi on December 18, 1952, a son of the late Lorraine and Joanne Carley Stedman. Mr. Stedman was a member of Ave Maria Parish, Bentleyville. He was also a member of Ellsworth Sportsman Club and the Blue Knights motorcycle club and was a corrections officer at SCI-Greensburg. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Yasek Stedman of Ellsworth; two sons, Christopher and John Stedman, at home; one daughter, Shannon Stedman, at home; and one sister, Nancy Stedman of Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.

Robert H. Teagarden
Veteran of World War II received Purple Heart
Robert H. Teagarden, 75, of 520 North Porter Street, Waynesburg, died at 5:15 p.m. Monday, June 22, 1998, in his home following a lengthy illness. He was born June 4, 1923, in Aleppo Township, a son of Alvin H. and Ione Harkins Teagarden. Mr. Teagarden was a lifelong resident of Waynesburg, where he was a member of First Presbyterian Church. At the time of his death, he was grand master of Waynesburg Odd Fellows Lodge 469 I.O.O.F. Mr. Teagarden worked for Sexton's Auto for 10 years and was an insurance agent for Prudential Insurance for 31 years, retiring in 1987. He also served as a school director in Central Greene School District, Waynesburg. He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division and jumping on D Day in Normandy, France. Mr. Teagarden received the Purple Heart. On October 17, 1942, he married Kathleen Varner, who survives. Also surviving are four daughters, Judith Clayton of Deland, Fla., Rosemary Birt of Mt. Gretna, Karen Calvert of Waynesburg and Beth Day of West Finley; two sons, Robert V. and James A. Teagarden, both of Waynesburg; 13 grandchildren; two brothers, Walter B. Teagarden of West Finley and Donald A. Teagarden of Waynesburg; and several nieces and nephews.

William S. Trafford
World War II veteran
William Stuart Trafford, 86, of McMurray, died Monday, June 22, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He was born April 1, 1912, in Pittsburgh, a son of Ralph and Louise Bickert Trafford. Mr. Trafford was employed by the former Federal Paperboard Co. of Washington, and was a member of the 485th Bomb Group of the 15th Air Force during World War II. He was Lutheran and enjoyed hunting and fishing. On August 3, 1940, he married Hattie Caldwell, who survives. Also surviving are a sister, Mary Louise Criswell of Bethel Park; and a niece and two nephews. Deceased is a brother, Jack Trafford.

Pete Bostich
Bentleyville man was WWII veteran
Pete Bostich, 77, of Bentleyville, died at 10:36 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 1998, at his home. He was born December 13, 1920, in Yugoslavia, a son of Miller and Jennie Bostich. Mr. Bostich retired in 1982 from Bethlehem Mines Corp., Mine No. 60. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Philippines and Asiatic Theater. He was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Union 437, Lithuanian Club and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5454, all of Bentleyville. On July 9, 1949, he married Mildred Yakin, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Donna Nagy of Mandeville, La., and Barbara Maness of Tampa, Fla.; two sons, Peter Bostich of Winter Park, Fla., and Mark Bostich of Bentleyville; a brother, Miller Bostich of Washington; a sister, Mildred Stahl of Waynesburg; and seven grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, Rudolph, George and Nick Bostich; and a sister, Jennie Gacek.

Tony Celli
Retired coal miner from Nemacolin Mine
Tony Celli, 85, of Rices Landing, died at 2:13 p.m. Tuesday, June 23, 1998, in Uniontown Hospital. Mr. Celli was born January 7, 1913 in Austin, a son of Attilio and Marie Ondrejko Celli. On September 26, 1934, he married Margery Dowlin, who survives. Mr. Celli was a coal miner at Nemacolin Mine and retired in 1979 after 48 years of service. He lived in Rices Landing for more than 63 years and was a former member of the Rices Landing Volunteer Fire Company and UMW Local 6290. Surviving in addition to his wife are one son, William Celli of Ford City; one daughter, Dolly Dolansky of Rices Landing; two sisters, Ellen Bell of Dilliner and Rachel Lowther of Nemacolin; four grandchildren; Tammy Strube, Tony Dolansky, Lisa Celli and Anthony Celli; and three great-grandchildren. Deceased are two brothers, Londo Celli and Baldo Celli; and four sisters, Mary Zuberbier, Della Bell, Rose Tenney and Margaret Kasenic.

Harold H. Fee, 77, of Richmond Hill, Ga., formerly of Washington, died Tuesday, June 23, 1998. He was born July 10, 1920, in Washington County, a son of John S. and Margaret McCartney Fee. Mr. Fee lived most of his life in Washington County. He was a truck driver and a Protestant. Surviving are his wife, Lorraine Talbot Fee; his twin sister, Helen Galuska of Washington; and another sister, Edith Murdy of Washington. Deceased are a brother, Stanley Fee; and two sisters, Margaret Cumer and Mildred Fee. Private services were held in Savannah, Ga.

Jolene T. Crovak Folk, 57, of Bunola, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-McKeesport. She was born July 12, 1940, in Bunola, a daughter of the late Joseph and Helen Flowers Crovak. Mrs. Folk was a member of St. Michael's Roman Catholic Church, Elizabeth Township, and was a supporter of Bunola Volunteer Fire Company. Surviving are her husband, John "Bob" Folk Sr.; two sons, John R. Folk Jr. and Joseph C. Folk, both of Bunola; a sister, Helen M. Hobaugh of Bunola; a brother, Walter J. Crovak of Bunola; and several nieces and nephews.

Helen Rae Keffer, 85, of Charlotte, N.C., formerly of Pitt-Gas and Connellsville, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in Charlotte. She was born January 14, 1913, in Jefferson, Greene County, a daughter of Harry W. and Blanche Huey Hawk. Mrs. Keffer lived her early years in Pitt-Gas and was a resident of Charlotte for the last 12 years, where she was a member of Newell Baptist Church. Prior to moving to Charlotte, she was a member of Albright United Methodist Church in South Connellsville. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra Lee Skilone of Charlotte and Patricia Ann Aguglia of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Michael, Joey and Christian; and a great-grandson, six nieces and three nephews and several great-nieces and nephews. Deceased are her husband, John W. "Bill" Keffer, who died April 5, 1968; two brothers, Harry W. Hank and Ben Hawk; and two sisters, Christine and Catherine Jean Hawk. Services and burial will be in the Connellsville area.

She was born December 8, 1912, in New Derry, a daughter of Paul and Anna Bozich Plevich. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church in Westover. Surviving are two brothers, Michael Plevich of Morgantown and Paul Plevich of Washington; two sisters, Anne Vrobel of Wingate, N.C., and Antonia Mitchell of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

Michael Jay Sachs, 45, of Hathaway Road, Claysville, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He was born May 4, 1953, in New York, N.Y., a son of Albert and Rose Greenburg Sachs. Mr. Sachs was a member of Beth Israel Synagogue of Washington. A graduate of Glen Cove (N.Y.) High School, he was a department manager for Mellon Bank, Pittsburgh. On July 24, 1976, in Glen Cove, he married Mary K. Giambruno, who survives. In addition to his wife and parents, surviving are two sons, Jonathan E. and David J. Sachs, both at home; two sisters, Gay Flessel and Lois Hobertz, both of Long Island, N.Y.; and three nieces.

Emma Lou Taggart
Librarian enjoyed traveling and painting
Emma Lou Taggart, 91, of Memphis, Tenn., died Monday, June 8, 1998, in Cordova Nursing Center near Memphis. She was born April 29, 1907, in Hopewell Township, Washington County, a daughter of Charles and Catherine Taggart. Miss Taggart was a graduate of Sioux Falls College, Sioux Falls, S.D. She was a librarian for Duke University and for the U.S. Navy in Bainbridge, Md. She also worked for more than 25 years as librarian at the Naval Aviation Technical Training Center in Millington, Tenn. Miss Taggart enjoyed reading, traveling and painting. She was the last of her immediate family. She has two nephews, Kermit Taggart of Washington and Gilbert Taggart of Victoria, B.C.; and two nieces, Ruth Taggart Lowry of Washington and June Taggart Colilla of Bethesda, Md. Deceased are three brothers, Carl, James and Matthew Lloyd Taggart; and one sister, Mabel Taggart.

Samuel L. Bedogne
Former deacon, elder, trustee of First Presbyterian
Samuel L. Bedogne, 82, of New Eagle, died Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in Monongahela Valley Hospital, Carroll Township. He was born March 19, 1916, in Forward Township, a son of Angelo and Cliotilda Bartoletti Bedogne. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Monongahela, for which he served as a deacon, elder and trustee. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Bedogne served as secretary for the borough of New Eagle for 26 years. He also was assistant secretary for the Municipal Authority of New Eagle. He formerly served on the school board of both the former New Eagle schools and the Ringgold schools. He was a member of ElksLodge 455, Monongahela, and its golf and euchre leagues. On August 6, 1941, he married Janet Gee Bedogne, who survives. Also surviving are his son, Jan Bedogne of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Mary Vaira of Forward Township; and two grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Bedogne. Deceased are two brothers, A.F. "Babe" Bedogna and Charles Bedogne; and a sister, Amelia Vaira.

Viola V. Kerin, 83, of Canonsburg, died at 3:10 a.m. Thursday, June 25, 1998, in Manor Care Health Services, McMurray, following an extended illness. She was born July 9, 1914, in Cuddy, Wis., a daughter of Julius and Blanche Casper. Mrs. Kerin had lived her entire life in Canonsburg, where she was homemaker. She was a member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Parish, Houston Senior Citizens and SNPJ Lodge 138 of Strabane. On May 12, 1934, she married Joseph E. Kerin, who died September 27, 1996. Surviving are two daughters, Violet B. Stein of Coraopolis and Joan Y. Crawford of Canonsburg; a grandson, Troy M. Crawford; a sister, Stella Piechnik of Canonsburg; two brothers, Julius "LuLu" Casper and Joseph Mulshen, both of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Bernard, Sigmund, Steve and Chester Casper.

Martha Litten
Teacher was active in church choir
Martha Harbaugh Litten, 81, of Mather, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg. She was born April 7, 1917, in Mill Run, a daughter of Joseph and Gertrude Stull Harbaugh. Mrs. Litten graduated from Jefferson High School in 1936 and from Waynesburg College. She also attended Penn State University and California State College. She was a retired school teacher for the Jefferson-Morgan School District for more than 26 years. She was a lifelong resident of Mather and a member of the Carmichaels Christian Church, having served as the choir director. For a time she also directed the choir at Mather Christian Church. She sang for weddings and enjoyed playing the piano. Mrs. Litten was a member of the Greene County Retired Teachers' Association, Pennsylvania State Education Association and the National Education Association. She was the former secretary of the Dry Tavern Lions Medical Center Association. One June 15, 1946, she married H. Dewey Litten, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Wayne Litten of Mather; two granddaughters, Jodi Litten of Waynesburg and Jaime Litten of Mather; a sister, Dorcas Moore of Baden; a brother, John Harbaugh of Greensburg and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are four brothers, Joe, Phil, Paul and Mark Harbaugh.

Henry Papesh

Henry Papesh, 69, of Cambridge, Ohio, formerly of Slovan, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, in his home. He was born May 22, 1929, in Marianna, a son of Matt and Caroline Anzlovar Papesh. He was a 1948 graduate of Union High School, Burgettstown. Mr. Papesh owned and operated his own barber shop in Waynesburg prior to his retirement in 1995. He was a member of the Master Barbers Association of Greene County. He was also a member of VFW, the Moose Lodge and the American Legion, all of Waynesburg. Stationed in Washington, D.C., he was a corporal of the Anti- Aircraft Artillery (AAA) for the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. Surviving are his wife, Lucille Ostojich Papesh; two sons, Henry Papesh of Houston, Texas, and Mark Papesh of Parkersburg, W. Va.; a daughter, Donna Platt of Munhall; a sister, Josephine Benn of Monroeville; and two grandchildren, Matthew and Andrea Papesh.

Anna B. Shipe, 79, of Carmichaels, died at 7:49 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in Mt. Macrina Manor, Uniontown. She was born November 3, 1918, in Revere, a daughter of George and Edna Frost O'Brien. Mrs. Shipe was a member of Greene Valley Presbyterian Church of Carmichaels. She was a graduate of Brownsville High School and had resided in the Carmichaels area since 1941. On November 4, 1939, she married Benjamin H. Shipe Jr., who survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Nancy J. Shipe of Carmichaels; two grandchildren, J. Brian and A. Benjamin; a sister, Wilma Webster of Uniontown; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased are two sisters, Jane Patton and Loraine "Pat" Hartley.

Arlena Mae Smith

Arlena Mae Smith, 90, a resident of the Cameron Continuous Care Center in West Virginia, died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 1998, at the center. She was born September 19, 1907, in Doddridge County, W.Va., a daughter of Leonard and Ida Lemasters Ice. Mrs. Smith was a member of the First Christian Church of Cameron and was retired from Elite Glass Co., Cameron. Her husband, Hennen Smith, died in 1959. Surviving are a daughter, Mary R. Finnegan of Wind Ridge; three sons, William Harvey Smith of Denver, Colo., Grover Smith of Stevensville, Mich., and Okey L. Smith of McMechen, W.Va.; a sister, Dora Blake of Cameron; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. Four brothers and two sisters are deceased. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Friday, June 26, in Highland Cemetery, Cameron.

Hannibal "Neeb" Trapuzzano, 71, of Washington, died unexpectedly Thursday, June 25, 1998, in Washington Hospital. He was born January 4, 1927, in Washington, a son of Sylvia and Theodore Trapuzzano Sr. Mr. Trapuzzano was a member of Immaculate Conception Church and Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. He was a graduate of Washington High School and Waynesburg College. Mr. Trapuzzano was a civil engineer, employed by the U.S. Department of Transportation. During World War II, he was a member of the 88th Infantry Division, receiving the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign medal and the World War II victory medal. On October 31, 1953, he married Jean Willis Trapuzzano, who died in 1980. Surviving are three sons, Lawrence B. Trapuzzano of Columbia, Md., Theodore D. Trapuzzano of Ellicott City, Md., and Hannibal C. Trapuzzano Jr. of Laurel, Md.; a daughter, Angelica M. Thompson of Leonardtown, Md.; eight grandchildren, Jason and Jenna Thompson, and Susan, Lawrence Jr., Theodore, Caitlyn, Joseph and Brooke Trapuzzano; and several nieces and nephews. His longtime companion was Maryan Simpson of Houston. Deceased is a brother, Edmund "Ben" Trapuzzano.

She was born May 4, 1916, in Florence, a daughter of Charles Wilber and Mary Stephenson McCarrell. Miss McCarrell was a member of Faith United Presbyterian Church, Washington. She was a graduate of Burgettstown High School and studied at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh School of Nursing from 1934 to 1937, graduating as a registered nurse. Prior to her retirement, Miss McCarrell worked as a nurse at McGee-Womens Hospital, Pittsburgh.

Surviving are three sons, James, Jeffrey and Anthony Impiccini; one daughter, Jacqueline Impiccini, all of Cleveland; two grandchildren, Tia Marie and Jeffrey Jr.; one brother, Steve Foltion. Edward W. Shingle
Deacon and elder of Dutch Fork Christian Church
Edward W. Shingle Sr., 48, of West Alexander, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, in Atlantic General Hospital, Ocean City, Md. He was born April 8, 1950, in Washington, a son of James A. Shingle of Amity and the late Mary E. Jackson Shingle. He was a member of the Dutch Fork Christian Church, Claysville, for which he served as deacon and elder. Prior to serving at Dutch Fork, he was a member and deacon at West Alexander First Christian Church. An avid hunter, Mr. Shingle bagged a 14-point buck on the first day of deer season in 1993. He shot his first turkey during spring gobbler season this year. Mr. Shingle was a member of the Double Dam Men's Golf Club League for several years and served as a baseball coach in West Alexander during the 1970s and '80s. He worked at Washington Penn Plastic for 18 years and served as the plant's fork-lift mechanic for the last nine years of his career. Prior to working at Washington Penn Plastic, he owned and operated Ed's Garage and Body Shop, West Alexander. On July 23, 1966, he married Betty A. Anderson, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Edward W. Shingle Jr., Raymond A. Shingle and William Coty Shingle, all of West Alexander; one daughter, Zonie S. "Sissy" Shingle of West Alexander; three sisters, Sandy Shingle Teagarden of Waynesburg, Bonnie Shingle Hines and Linda Shingle, both of Amity; one brother, Kenny Shingle of Amity; two grandsons, Raymond Alexander Shingle Jr. and Jacob Shingle; three granddaughters, Courtney Shingle, Alyssa Shingle and Steffani Shingle; and several nieces and nephews. Walter "Dutch" Smith, 86, of Pittsburgh, died Thursday, June 25, 1998, in Mon Valley Hospital. He was born December 26, 1911, in Finleyville, a son of Henry and Mary Thompson Smith. Mr. Smith formerly worked as a glass cutter for Mississippi Glass in the Mon Valley. He was a member of Pleasant View United Methodist Church and a 50-year life member of the Loyal Order of Moose 172 of Finleyville. His wife, Ruth E. Smith, died September 7, 1991. Surviving are three daughters, Mary Jane Gieche of Finleyville, Eleanor Powell of Buena Vista and Martha Dick of Pleasant Hills; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. Deceased are three brothers, Robert, Albert and Jack Smith.

Nicholas Wukovich

Nicholas Wukovich, 67, of Van Voorhis, died Friday, June 26, 1998, at his home. He was born March 15, 1931, in Jefferson Township, a son of Mike and Mary Wukovich. Mr. Wukovich was retired from Dickerson Construction of Youngwood and was a U.S. Army veteran. He was a member of the Croatian Fraternal Lodge in Cokeburg and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are his wife, Audrey Rose Wukovich, with whom he celebrated 44 years of marriage on August 9, 1997; a son, Nick Wukovich of Van Voorhis, two daughters, Arlene Davila of Front Royal, Va., and Donna Jean Taylor of Bowling Green, Va.; five grandchildren, Rebecca Wukovich and Michael, Jennifer, Nicole and Christina Davila; two brothers, Mike Wukovich of Monongahela and Ted Wukovich of Van Voorhis; and two sisters, Rosemary Berkich of Van Voorhis and Anna Urbank of Finleyville. Mrs. Duke attended Washington schools and was employed as a nurse's aide at the Sylvia Barr Nursing Home, Washington. She was married twice. Her first husband, Howard H. Hufford, died in 1958, and her second husband, Wayne Edward Duke, died in 1992. Surviving are a brother, James McDonald of Carmichaels; a sister, Grace Hatfield Thompson of Washington; five grandchildren, one with whom she made her home, Robert Hufford of Monongahela; and a great-grandchild. He was born January 20, 1940, in Washington County, son of Helen Dalessandri Porter of Carnegie and the late William Everett Porter. Mr. Porter was a member of the Point Pleasant Moose Lodge and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints of Gallipolis, Ohio. He was a coal miner with the Southern Ohio Coal Co. Surviving are his wife, Judy Reynolds Porter; two daughters, Joyce Glaze of Shade, Ohio, and Tammy Landers Thomas of Middleport; five sons, Thomas Porter Jr. of Defuniak Springs, Fla., Timothy S. Mrs. DeiCas was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church, the Fallowfield Township Grange and the XYZ Club. Florence H. Dernoshek Fefolt, 85, of Finleyville, died Saturday, February 28, 1998. She was born February 26, 1913, in Wick Haven, a daughter of Helena Galub and Ludwig Dernoshek. Mrs. Fefolt was a founding member of the Venetia PTA and for many years was employed at the Venetia School in food service. She was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church and the Ladies Guild in Finleyville. Always interested in her Slovenian heritage, Mrs. Fefolt had taken many trips to Slovenia. Her husband of 65 years, Louis Fefolt, is deceased. Surviving are two sons, L. Ray Fefolt of Finleyville and Dennis A. Fefolt of Canonsburg; a daughter, Dorothy Schwerha of Peters Township; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Louise Pompermayer of Venetia and Dorothy Bateson of Pittsburgh. Deceased are two brothers, Ludwig Dernoshek and Florian Dernoshek; and three sisters, Lana Gaber, Pauline Strojan and Mildred Dubs.

"Gussy" Yoder Holden, 75, of Ashland, Ohio, formerly of Greene County, who died Wednesday, February 25, 1998, in the Samaritan Hospital, Ashland, after a short illness. She was born September 19, 1922, in Deep Valley, a daughter of William Henry and Viola Gertrude Barnhart Yoder, and had resided in Pittsburgh for several years prior to moving to Ohio more than 15 years ago. Mrs. Holden attended the Windy Gap Church in her early years and was a graduate of Waynesburg High School. She was a veteran of World War II, where she served with the U.S. Navy WAVES at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. Mrs. Holdren was a member of the Harry Higgins American Legion Post 88 and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 2178 Auxiliary, both in Ashland, and was also a member of the Ashland AMVETS Post 96, Ashland. Surviving are her husband, Paul R. Holden, who she married in 1971; a son, Douglas A. Holden of Springfield, Ohio; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson. Deceased are a daughter, Susan Cumpston Wolfe; a son, Richard Cumpston; eight brothers, Nelson, Glenn, William, Thomas, Allen "Tompy", and Hollie Yoder, and two brothers who died in infancy; two sisters, Martha Jane Jones and Jessie Leona Whiteman. Mrs. Holden was the last of her immediate family. Services and interment were held Saturday, February 28, in Ashland.

Alvin G. Huffman
29-year postal carrier was WW II veteran
Alvin G. Huffman, 72, of Church Street, Washington, died at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 2, 1998, in Washington Hospital following an illness of several months. He was born April 11, 1925, in Washington, a son of Alvin G. and Mary M. Bedillion Huffman. Mr. Huffman graduated from Washington High School in 1943. He served with the 284th Field Artillery Battalion in the European Theater during World War II and was a member of Edwin Scott Linton American Legion Post 175. Mr. Huffman was a postal letter carrier for more than 29 years, until his retirement January 3, 1987. On March 29, 1947, he married June Kottner, who survives at home. Also surviving are two sons, Bruce Huffman of Durham, N.C. and John A. Huffman of Washington; seven grandchildren, Shane, Brad, Steven, Sean, Mackenzie, Brian and Heather Huffman; two great-grandchildren, Justin and Madison Huffman; and a niece. Deceased are a brother, Allen Huffman; and two sisters, Violet Strawn and Doris Huffman.

Virginia L. Miltz
Worked for Bozovich Insurance, Bentleyville
Virginia L. Miltz, 60, of 225 Fourth Street, Bentleyville, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, in Mon Valley Hospital. She was born December 9, 1937, in Carroll Township, a daughter of the late Charles William and Margaret E. Fisher Wright. Mrs. Miltz was a member of Church of God, Uniontown. She was employed as a secretary/receptionist for Robert L. Bozovich Insurance Agency in Bentleyville for eight years. On June 8, 1963, she married Donald J. Miltz, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Donald J. Miltz Jr. of Waynesburg and Rev. Jason J. Miltz of Everson; a daughter, Tracy Emke of Erie; a grandson, Cody Emke; a sister, Dora Kearns of Washington; and several nieces and nephews. Deceased, in addition to her parents, is a brother, the Rev. Robert W. Wright.

John L. Novak
Waynesburg resident born in Washington County
John L. Novak, 90, of Waynesburg, formerly of Nemacolin, died at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 1998, in Bialko's Rest Home, Waynesburg. He was born July 10, 1907, in Washington County, a son of John and Josephine Novak. Mr. Novak was a member of St. George Serbian Orthodox Church in Carmichaels. Deceased is his wife, Ann Maletic Lapsevich Novak, who died August 16, 1991.

Rose Patalan
Was owner of Henderson Avenue Foodland
Rose Patalan, 92, of Henderson Avenue, Washington, died Monday, March 2, 1998, at Presbyterian Medical Center, Washignton. She was born August 15, 1905, in Tarnow, Poland, a daughter of John and Victoria Tarsia. She had been the owner of Henderson Avenue Foodland in Washington for many years. Her first husband, John Szotkowski, died January 15, 1929. Her second husband, John Patalan, died November 4, 1977. She was a member of St. Hilary Church, Washington. Surviving are two daughters, Jennie Stucky of Monterey Park, Calif. and Patricia Brezinski of Washington; one son, Henry S. Szotkowski of Washington; four grandchildren, Debra Brezinski and Kevin Brezinski and Sharon Shrum and Sandy Gareis; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces. Deceased is a brother, Stanley Tarsia.

Joseph P. Pusateri Sr.
Burgettstown teacher was acting superintendent
Joseph P. Pusateri Sr., 75, of Burgettstown, died Sunday, March 1, 1998, in his home. He was born August 23, 1922, in Burgettstown, a son of Salvatore and Lucy Longo Pusateri. Mr. Pusateri was a graduate of Union High School, Duquesne University, where he received his B.A. degree, and the University of Pittsburgh, where he received his M.Ed. He served with the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II in its intelligence division. Until his retirement in 1989, he taught in the Burgettstown Area School system, where he was acting superintendent from 1978 to 1980, and at the Penn State area campus for more than 10 years. He was a pioneer in bringing drivers' education to the school systems in Pennsylvania. Mr. Pusateri owned an independent insurance agency in Burgettstown for more than 30 years. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, Burgettstown, where he served on the parish council. He was also a member and former president of Burgettstown Area Education Association, member of Pennsylvania State and National Education Associations, Washington County Teachers Association, past president of Burgettstown Lions, a member of Burgettstown Council 3440 of the Knights of Columbus and American Legion of Burgettstown and served on Burgettstown Council for many years. On June 10, 1950, at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in Burgettstown, he married Josephine Garcia, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Joseph P. Pusateri Jr., M.D., of O'Hare Township and David P. Pusateri of Sewickley; four grandchildren, Meg, Nick, Emily and Tim; a sister, Sara Azzarello; and a brother, Salvadore Pusateri, both of Burgettstown. Deceased are two brothers, Anthony J. Sr. and John Pusateri.
