Joseph Yesenchak
McGraw Edison retiree enjoyed hunting
Joseph Yesenchak, 73, of 30 Sycamore Street, Muse, died at 3:58 a.m. Friday, October 30, 1998, in Mercy Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born March 7, 1925, in Enterprise, a son of Wasil and Anna Mamrak Yesenchak.
Mr. Yesenchak was a resident of Muse for the last 70 years. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg; the French Club of Canonsburg; the White Eagles of Canonsburg; the Polish National Union of Canonsburg; and the AF L-CIO Local 3968.
An avid hunter, Mr. Yesenchak also coached boys baseball for many years in the Canonsburg area.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, having served in the Asiatic Pacific area and in the Africian European area.
Prior to retirement, Mr. Yesenchak was a wire wrapper at McGraw Edison, Canonsburg.
On November 1, 1947, he married Mary Cecil, who survives.
Also surviving are three daughters, JoAnn Harter of Washington, Marsha Harter of Washington and Debra Wrubleski of Canonsburg; four sisters, Ann Pastrick of Washington, Pauline Dolinar of Bridgeville, Julia Holovack of Muse and Marge Pucker of Bridgeville; seven grandchildren, Richard Jr., Holly, Harold Jr., Heather and Shana Harter and Kayla and Matthew Wrubleski; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, John Yesenchak Sr. and Charles Yesenchak.
Ruth E. Boswell
Tax collector was member of First Baptist Church
Ruth E. Boswell, 88, of Washington, died Sunday, November 8, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.
She was born May 12, 1910, in Washington, a daughter of Howard and Jenney Harding Showalter.
Mrs. Boswell was a member of First Baptist Church of Washington, where she was formerly president of the Ruth Class.
She attended Washington schools and graduated from Van Ordan Washington Business College. Prior to her retirement in 1973, she served for 13 years as a tax collector in the Washington Treasurer's Office.
She was formerly president of the Washington County Council of Democratic Women and enjoyed reading.
On December 25, 1929, in Washington, she married Walter W. Boswell. Mr. Boswell died March 28, 1959.
Surviving are a daughter, Sandra Ross of Washington; a granddaughter, Sheryl Wright of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, John Showalter; and a sister, Arabellea Showalter.
Anna Korba
Active in St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church
Anna Dubinsky Korba, 82, of Canonsburg, died Saturday, November 7, 1998.
She was born October 4, 1916, in Arden, a daughter of Joseph and Anna Orlosky Dubinsky. Her stepfather was Millie Stupar.
Mrs. Korba spent the last 50 years of her life in Canonsburg. She was a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church of Canonsburg; the St. Michael Ladies Guild; the Jednota; Greek Catholic Union; Catholic Daughters of America; the Rosary Society of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church; and the Byzantine Catholic Choir.
Mrs. Korba had worked as a licensed practical nurse at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, for 15 years, and was the bookkeeper at Katz Brothers Hardware Store in Canonsburg for 40 years.
She was a 1935 graduate of Washington High School; a graduate of Penn Commercial School of Business; and a graduate of Allegheny School of Nursing.
Her husband, Michael Korba, died April 17, 1950.
Surviving are a son, Michael John Korba of Laurel, Md.; two daughters, Helen Ann Cesari of Rockville, Md., and Joyce Marie Dreeland of McMurray; a brother, Branko Stupar of Potomac, Md.; a sister, Helen Stupar Tatalovich of Las Vegas, Nev.; six grandchildren, Linda Dreeland, Wendy Dreeland, Leigh Korba, Erin Korba, Marc Cesari and Michael Korba Jr.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, Joseph Dubinsky, John Dubinsky and Milosh Stupar; and two sisters, Mary Marinski and Katherine Dubinsky.
Tobias Lemasters
Former Washington resident was retired farmer
Tobias (Tobie) Lemasters, 80, of Tiltonsville, Ohio, formerly of Steubenville, Ohio, and Washington, died Sunday, November 8, 1998, in Trinity Medical Center East, Steubenville.
He was born February 20, 1918, in Fairmont, W.Va., a son of James A. and Malinda M. Goff Lemasters.
Mr. Lemasters was retired from the former Steubenville Glove and Tarp Co. and was a retired self-employed farmer.
He was Protestant, an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6906 of Toronto, Ohio.
Surviving are two sons, John "Buck" Lemasters of Washington and Jerry Lemasters of Amity; two daughters, Carol Phillips of Prosperity and Grace Bell of Washington; his first wife, Beatrice Lemasters of Washington; a brother, James Lemasters of Grafton, Ohio; three sisters, Frances Stoneking of Pine Bank, Elizabeth Yoho of Moundsville, W.Va., and Delphie Hamilton of Carmichaels; 16 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are his second wife, Mary Ellen Rogers Lemasters, who died October 13, 1997; an infant son, Craig Lemasters; two brothers, Archie and George Lemasters; a grandson; and a great-great-grandson.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.
Patricia A. Natale

Patricia A. Natale, 66, formerly of Canonsburg, died Sunday, November 8, 1998, in Hixenbaugh Nursing Home, Claysville.
She was born August 10, 1932, and was married to William J. Natale, who died December 5, 1987.
Mrs. Natale assisted her husband at Natale Bar and Grill.
Surviving are four sons, James Trump of Chesapeake, Va., David Trump of Washington, Timothy Trump of Selinsgrove and Jeffrey Trump of Washington; and three grandchildren.
Services and interment are private.
Louis A. Polaski
Avid sportsman was construction carpenter
Louis A. "Peck" Polaski, 91, of Canonsburg, died Sunday, November 8, 1998, in Country Meadows, Bridgeville.
He was born March 29, 1907, in Canonsburg, a son of Julian and Mary Ann Rogowski Polaski.
Mr. Polaski had lived his entire life in Canonsburg, where he was a charter member of St. Genevieve Worship Site of St. Patrick Parish.
He had worked at Standard Tin Plate until 1941. During World War II, he was a steamfitter at Dravo Shipyards on Neville Island, building LSTs for the war effort.
After World War II, Mr. Polaski joined Carpenters Union Local 142 of Pittsburgh and became a construction carpenter, working in that trade until his retirement.
He was a member of American Fraternal Union Lodge 205, Strabane, since 1925, where he was secretary since 1935. He also was a delegate to 15 quadrennial conventions and served as AFU supreme vice president for eight years. He was a member of White Eagles Lodge 1746 of Canonsburg.
Mr. Polaski was an avid sportsman, playing baseball through the 1920s and '30s for the Home Furniture Team. He was active in football and bowling, and was league secretary.
He was a member of the Baseball Old Timers Organization in Meadow Lands, where he served as secretary/treasurer for 11 years.
On May 28, 1931, he married Frances V. Retzel, who died January 28, 1995.
Surviving are a daughter, Shirley Vincenty of Willoughby Hills, Ohio; a son, Louis J. Polaski of Bend, Ore.; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Polaski was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are three brothers, Frank Polaski, Pete Polasky and Paul Polasky; four sisters, Regina Rubic, Helen Germanowski, Sophie Rapalski and Julia Karmelowecz. Two brothers and a sister died in infancy.
Robert Lee Reynolds
Manager for Bell of Pennsylvania
Robert Lee "Bucky" Reynolds, 69, of Peters Township, died Sunday, November 8, 1998, in Passavant Hospital, Pittsburgh.
He was born October 16, 1929, in Uniontown, a son of Regis Lee and Wauhnita Leona Lucas Reynolds.
Mr. Reynolds was a 1947 graduate of Uniontown High School, attended Kings Point Academy and was a member of Peters Creek Baptist Church.
Mr. Reynolds retired as a manager for Bell of Pennsylvania and was a member of Pioneers of Bell Telephone.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lee Pletcher Reynolds; four daughters, Lynn Reynolds De Grave of Paris, France, Becky Reynolds of Peters Township, Lisa Reynolds Reed of Champion and Jennifer Reynolds Canil of Cranberry; four grandchildren, Adelaide, Edouard and Charles Robert Lee De Grave and Hannah Canil; four sisters, Betty, Cecilia, Carolyn and Sarah; three brothers, Sam, Marvin and Kenneth Reynolds; and an aunt, Margaret Lucas of Uniontown, who raised Mr. Reynolds.

Margaret Ann Kuhar Sindrich, 62, of Spring Street, Bentleyville, died Monday, November 9, 1998, in her home.
She was born February 7, 1936, in Bentleyville, a daughter of the late Stephen and Mary Smelko Kuhar.
A homemaker, Mrs. Sindrich was a graduate of Bentleyville High School and attended St. Mary's Church in Charleroi.
On June 8, 1955, in St. Joseph Church in Cokeburg, she married Frank Sindrich, who survives.
Also surviving are five daughters, Rita Alexander of Charleroi, Cheryl Carson of Washington, Sandra Sindrich of Bentleyville, Merry Ann Sindrich of Cokeburg and Kelley Sindrich of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Aaron and Erik Carson and Heather Alexander; two sisters, Mary Grena of Smock and Theresa Greyhosky of Cokeburg; a brother, Joseph Kuhar of Bentleyville; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, John A. "Mog" and Edward L. Kuhar and Stephen E. and Francis Kuchar.

Margaret Zappone, 82, of Cleveland, Ohio, died Friday, November 6, 1998, in Cleveland.
She was born August 16, 1916, in Crescent Heights, Daisytown, a daughter of Martin and Suzanna Sabo.
Mrs. Zappone was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Cleveland.
She was a homemaker and was formerly of Crucible.
She was married to Roy Zappone, who is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters, Joyce Woods of Cleveland, with whom she made her home, and Sheila Martin of Lakewood, Ohio; one sister, Anna Mae Knezovich of Denbo; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Deceased are her brother, Martin Sabo; and two sisters, Helen Bartok and Irene Kowalczyk.

Marsha J. Ashcraft, 59, of New Eagle, died Tuesday, November 10, 1998, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh.
She was born September 9, 1939, in McKeesport, a daughter of the late William and Alice Vaughn Fine.
Mrs. Ashcraft and her husband currently owned and operated Ashcraft Construction and Storage in Monongahela.
She was a member of Library Baptist Church.
On December 21, 1956, she married George W. Ashcraft, who survives.
Also surviving are four sons, William L. Ashcraft of Monongahela, Alan E. Ashcraft of Rostraver Township and Timothy R. and Harry J. Ashcraft both of New Eagle; a daughter, Nora Muccino of Monongahela; a brother, Robert Fine of Forward Township; three sisters, Mildred Miller of New Eagle, Fay Gedekoh of Elizabeth Township and Darlene Chapman of Cleveland, Ohio; 12 grandchildren, Barbara, Rick, Marsha, Alan Jr., Nicole, Matthew, Marcus, Rachael, Alyssa and Brianna Ashcraft and Daniel Jr. and Kaitlin Muccino; and one great-grandson.
Deceased are seven brothers, Arthur, James, Wayne, William, Floyd, John and Ronald Fine; and a sister, Eldora Tepe.
Leslie W. Bowland Jr.

Leslie "Bud" W. Bowland Jr., 74, of Cuddy, died Tuesday, November 10, 1998, in St. Clair Memorial Hospital, Mt. Lebanon.
He was born July 1, 1924, in Star City, W.Va., a son of Leslie W. Sr. and Mary Magdalene Snyder Bowland.
Mr. Bowland was Protestant.
He was a retired coal worker and maintenance foreman for Matthews Coal Co.
For 46 years, he was married to Mary Berthold Bowland, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, David A. Bowland of Washington and Charles Bowland of Ohio; two grandchildren, Charles Bowland and Tina Lowrie; and three great-grandchildren.
Deceased is a sister, Elizabeth Dawson.
John W. Donnan
Veteran of Korean Conflict, received Purple Heart
John W. Donnan, 69, of Boca Raton, Fla., formerly of Carson City, Nev., died Tuesday, November 10, 1998, in Good Samaritan Hospital in West Palm Beach, Fla., following a brief illness.
He was born March 2, 1929, in Washington, a son of Alvan E. and Adah Griffith Donnan.
Mr. Donnan was a graduate of East Washington High School and was previous owner and operator of D. J.'s RV Center in Carson City.
During the Korean Conflict, he served in the U.S. Army and received the Purple Heart.
On December 28, 1950, in Washington, he married Sara McIlvaine, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Alvan E. Donnan of Zephyr Cove, Nev., and Alexander Donnan of Crossville, Tenn.; a daughter, Dorothy Sandoval of Sparks, Nev.; a sister, Dorothy Duncan of Tucson, Ariz.; nine grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a daughter, Sally Donnan; and two sisters, Adah Lindquist and Frances Speigel.

Douglas Scott McCullough, 21, of Midlothian, Va., died Sunday October 25, 1998, from injuries received in a car accident.
He was a 1995 graduate of Manchester (Va.) High School and a graduate of New River Community College.
Surviving are his father, James J. McCullough of Richmond, Va.; his mother, formerly of Washington, and stepfather, Suzanne and Allen Ferguson Sr. of Midlothian; brothers, Christian of Richmond and Joseph McCullough of Midlothian; maternal grandparents, Helen Virginia and A.W. Samson of Washington; paternal grandparents Robert C. and Rita McCullough of Wintersville, Ohio; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was born January 21, 1926, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of William and Mary Achmmor Menzer.
Surviving are two brothers, Raymond Menzer of Uniontown and Edward Menzer of Venetia; two sisters, Margaret Schricker of Pittsburgh and Marian Sweger of Avella; and several nieces and nephews.

Lawrence A. Myers
Washington High School graduate lived in Franklin
Lawrence A. Myers Jr., 74, of Franklin, died Monday, November 2, 1998.
Born December 7, 1923, in Rennerdale, he was a son of Lawrence and Myrabelle Myers.
Mr. Myers was a 1942 graduate of Washington High School.
He served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps in the Pacific Theater, where he worked on early radar units.
After military service, he attended Pennsylvania State University, where he received a bachelor of science degree in agriculture engineering.
Mr. Myers was also an active member of First United Methodist Church in Franklin.
On September 7, 1951, he married Barbara King, who survives.
Also surviving are three children, Patricia Myers of Weare, N.H., the Rev. Byron K. Myers, and Susan Sharra of Cucamonga, Calif.; three grandchildren, Lauren E. Myers and Anthony and Victoria Sharra; two brothers, Alfred Myers of Salisbury, Md., and Franklin Myers of St. Genevieve, Mo.; a sister, Nancy Tolan of Salisbury; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, Harry Myers and John P. Myers, who was formerly of Washington.
Services were held November 6, with burial in Emlenton Pennsylvania Cemetery.

She was born November 19, 1928, in Star Junction, a daughter of Frank Sr. and Apolonia Kubal Lorence.
Mrs. Paletta was Catholic.

Wretha "Beck" Martin Rucker, 67, of Struthers, Ohio, formerly of Aleppo Township, died unexpectedly at 6:40 p.m. Monday, November 9, 1998, in the Greene County Memorial Hospital emergency room.
She was born November 28, 1930, in Aleppo Township, a daughter of Ruth Lohr Martin of Wind Ridge R.D.1 and the late Samuel E. Martin.
Mrs. Rucker had been a resident of Ohio since 1954.
She was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Campbell, Ohio, and attended Center Township High School.
She was married twice. Her first husband, Doyle Lewis Tedrow, died December 24, 1984, and her second husband, Leslie Rucker, whom she married December 24, 1976, survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Ruth Ann Maloney of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Dennis Tedrow of Boardman, Ohio, and Kenneth Tedrow of Struthers; four stepdaughters, Anne Banks of Lorain, Ohio, Cheryl Streetcheck of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, Shelly Jones of Boardman and Lesley Dawn Shauffer of Youngstown, Ohio; two brothers, Donald R. Martin of Wind Ridge R.D.1 and Kenneth E. Martin of Walhoning, Ohio; a sister, Blanche Courtwright of Wind Ridge R.D.1; seven grandchildren; and 12 stepgrandchildren.

Doris M. Rankin, 70, of New Jersey, died October 31, 1998, in Ocean County Hospital, Manahawkin, N.J.
She was born in Missouri, a daughter of Bird Clutter and Mary Huffman Clutter Wilson.
Formerly of Washington, she resided in Ship Bottom, N.J., from 1967-93, and then moved to Tuckerton, N.J. Mrs. Rankin retired as a bartender after many years of service.
She was a member of the American Legion Post 493 and the Italian American Club, both of Tuckerton, and the Southern Ocean County Women's Pool League from 1980 until the time of her death.
Surviving are two sons, James Gary Allen of Tuckerton and Alfred R. Mundy Jr. of Beach Haven, N.J.; three daughters, Glenda W. Rankin and Mary L. Stackhouse, both of Beach Haven, and Billie Jo Bobo of Manahawkin; a brother, James L. Wilson of Washington; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several cousins.
An uncle, Charles Huffman, resides in Waynesburg.
Deceased are her second husband, Glenn W. "Dutch" Rankin, who died in 1958; a son, Thomas B. Rankin, who died in 1979; a brother, Robert S. Clutter; paternal grandparents, Guy Clutter and Blanche Clutter Weaver; and maternal grandparents, Cage and Coral Huffman.
George N. Thomas
Waynesburg native was first TV news editor in Pittsburgh
George N. Thomas, 76, of the Highland Park section of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh's first television news editor and first public information director for Allegheny County for nearly 30 years, died November 9, 1998, at Forbes Hospice, Pittsburgh.
He was born September 2, 1922, in Weirton, W.Va., a son of Nicholas and Mary Tsiotis Thomas.
Mr. Thomas was a member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Cathedral, Pittsburgh, where he taught Sunday school for 37 years and acted as the cathedral's official photographer.
After receiving his master's degree in journalism in 1952 from Columbia University, Thomas pioneered television news in Pittsburgh, becoming the first news director for WDTV (which later became KDKA-TV), moving on to WTAE-TV in 1960, where he worked as executive news director for eight years.
In the early days of television, Thomas organized a network of approximately 150 news photographers and reporters in Western Pennsylvania, Ohio and West Virginia - the largest such force for a single station in the nation.
He wrote Pittsburgh's first television documentary for KDKA-TV, "Pittsburgh and the Stars," about Westinghouse Electric's research into the use of nuclear power in space in the 1950s. Thomas produced the area's first half-hour program for WTAE-TV in 1957 corresponded with a Russian TV news editor prior to Soviet Premier Nakita Krushchev's visit to the United States, gaining an inside working knowledge of Russian television and its lack of freedom in news reporting.
In 1968, Thomas was named the first director of Allegheny county's Bureau of Information.
As a navigator with the 15th Air force during World War II, Thomas flew 26 combat missions - 13 as lead navigator - and was awarded five medals and a group Presidential citation. He also taught journalism at Point Park College for 29 years and was an active member in the City's Greek Orthodox community throughout his life.
A native of Waynesburg, he launched Waynesburg High School's first school newspaper before graduating in 1940.
After the war, he returned to Waynesburg College to earn his bachelor's degree in English/journalism, reporting part time for the Waynesburg Republican, Democrat-Messenger and Washington Observer.
Thomas compiled "A Half Century of Greene County Sports" in 336 weekly installments.
Among his biggest 'thrills' was borrowing a sample moon rock from Pitt University in 1971 when he was Alumni Day speaker at Waynesburg College, complete with county police escort. Thomas showed the rock to Dr. Paul R. Stewart, venerable retired president, who had taught Thomas geology 25 years earlier. "Here's a fossil even you have never seen," Thomas said to the amazed geologist.
Thomas has served as Northeast Regional Director of the National Association of County Information Offers and belonged to the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania, Variety Club of Pittsburgh, American Legion Post 595 (where he served as commander), Christian Associates of Southwestern Pennsylvania, Catholic Youth Association, Art Rooney Award Dinner committee (for which he had done publicity for all its 25 years), Order of Kentucky Colonels, American hellenic Educational Progressive Association and served on the board of the Pittsburgh Pastoral Institute.
In 1951, he married Donna Popson Thomas, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Nicholas J. Thomas of Shaler, Stephen A. Thomas of Regent Square and George N. Thomas Jr. of Seattle, Wash.; one daughter, Maria Thomas Burgwin of Oakland in Pittsburgh; three brothers, Angelo and Nick Nopulos of Baltimore, Md., and James Galatis of Pompano Beach, Fla; three sisters, Sophie Taylor of Maryland and Mary Keffelos and Rose Anastos, both of Warren, Ohio; three grandchildren, Jodie, Cassandra and Stephen; and several nieces and nephews.
Kenneth E. Welling Jr.
Director of Water and Waste Water in Ohio
Kenneth Eugene Welling Jr., 46, of state Route 776, Jackson, Ohio, died Monday, November 9, 1998, at the Cleveland(Ohio) Clinic.
He was born February 13, 1952, in Waynesburg, a son of the late Kenneth Eugene Welling Sr. and Sue Arnold Welling of North Royalton, Ohio.
Mr. Welling was director of Water and Waste Water for Jackson.
He received his bachelor of science in science/microbiology from Ohio State University, where he was a member of the Ohio State University Alumni Association.
Mr. Welling was a member of Masonic Portland Lodge 366, the Oak Hill Chapter Order of Eastern Star, the Ohio High School Athletic Association, the National Rifle Association, North American Hunting Club, Ohio Rural Water Association, the Water Environment Federation, Ohio Water Environment Association, the American Water Works Association and the Ohio Water Pollution Control Conference and served as chairman of Policy Committee for Solid Waste.
He was the recipient of numerous awards, including the Ohio Water Environment Association Dean Stewart Award; the William P. Hatfield Waste Water Management Pollution Control Award presented by the Water Environment Federation; and was named Southeast Section Outstanding Operator of the Year in 1987.
Surviving, in addition to his mother, are three sons, Matthew, Jonathan and Nathan Welling, all of Jackson; a daughter, Jennifer Welling of Jackson; two brothers, Kevin Welling of North Royalton and Kerry Welling of Parma, Ohio; a maternal grandfather, Merle Arnold of Clarksville; and an aunt, Connie Blue of Waynesburg.

World War II veteran was retired ironworker
Ewing Areford Jr., 77, of Carmichaels, died at 3:25 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, 1998, in Washington Hospital.
He was born August 23, 1921, in Garards Fort, a son of Ewing G. Sr. and Cecil May Knight Areford.
Mr. Areford served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a retired ironworker.
He was Methodist and a member of Carmichaels Moose Lodge and Local 3 of the Ironworkers Union, Pittsburgh.
On August 2, 1952, he married Ruth Maxine Smith, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Leon Areford of Carmichaels and Ronald Areford of Harrisburg; two daughters, Christine Smith of Carmichaels and Karen Barron of Apollo; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; four sisters, Dorothy Headlee of Khedive, Sarah Boone and Letha Vernon, both of Greensboro, and Betty Rockwell of Jefferson; and four brothers, Sam of Sycamore, Jim of Waynesburg, Bill of Nemacolin and Frank Areford of Canonsburg.

She was born October 31, 1931, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Joseph and Eva Houston Bissell.
A 1949 graduate of Canonsburg High School, she was employed by the former Fort Pitt Bridge Works, Canonsburg, and was a lifelong member of First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg, where she was active in the Gleaners Class.
Surviving are a brother, Robert J. Bissell of Maitland, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Daniel Bissell, and a half brother, Guane Houston.

Mary J. Calabro, 74, of Campbell Avenue, Washington, died at 12:19 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a brief illness.
She was born October 13, 1924, in Washington, a daughter of Carmine and Evelyn Julian Ruffa.
Mrs. Calabro was employed in 1946 by Washington Meat Market, was employed as a glassworker for Washington Co. and in her later years was employed as a salesclerk for such stores as The Hub and The Kitty Shop.
She was a member of the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of Immaculate Conception Church, of which she was a very active member. She also was a member of Friendship Travel Club.
Mrs. Calabro loved to cook, bake, shop and spent time with her family, especially her grandchildren.
She was a 1944 graduate of Washington High School.
On November 28, 1946, she married Sam "Chopper" Calabro, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Joe C. Calabro of Chester, Va.; two brothers, Joe Ruffa of Erie and Tom Ruffa of Washington; a sister, Anne Elias of Washington; three grandchildren, Sam, Jason and Melissa Calabro; and several nieces and nephews.

Thelma Caroline Fehring, 88, of Mononghela, died Tuesday, November 10, 1998, in Horizon Senior Care Center, Canonsburg.
She was born June 15, 1910, a daughter of William and Willomena Fehring.
Miss Fehring was one of eight children. The family resided on Pittsburgh's North Side, formerly Allegheny, and she was the last of her immediate family.
Surviving are a nephew, Richard G. Noll Jr. of Ohio; and a niece, Margaret A. Higbee of Indiana.
Deceased are five sisters, Margaret, Mildred, Marie, Pearl and Lillian; and two brothers, William and Robert Fehring.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 11, in Finleyville Cemetery, with the Rev. J. D. Hilliard, pastor of Wright's United Methodist Church, officiating.

George Kiddo, 69, of East Eighth Street, Erie, died Wednesday, November 4, 1998, in Hamot Medical Center.
He was born August 2, 1929, in Avella, a son of Nicholas and Mary Chopak Kiddo.
Mr. Kiddo worked for the Erie Water Bureau and Erie Water Authority for 20 years, retiring as crew leader in 1992, and had previously been employed by General Electric Co., Donnelly Hardware and St. Ann Catholic Church.
He was a member of Save Our Native Species (SONS) of Lake Erie and American Association of Retired Persons.
Mr. Kiddo enjoyed fishing and golf.
Surviving are his former wife, Gertrude Froehlich Kiddo; two sons, Mark Kiddo Sr. and Gregory Kiddo Sr., both of Erie; a daughter, Cynthia Kiddo of Erie; two sisters, Helen Kisiday of Chicago, Ill., and Mary Chizmar of Washington; seven grandchildren, Gregory Jr., Mark Jr., Natalie, Julia, Nicholas and Elizabeth Kiddo, and Killian Boam; two nieces, Marge Marker of Avella and Catherine Wojcik of Burgettstown; and two nephews, John Chizmar and James Holston, both of Washington.

Dorothy M. Loughman, 72, of Rose Avenue, Washington, died at 7:50 a.m. Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
Born February 20, 1926, in Plumsock, she was a daughter of Albert W. and Gladys Lucille McKerrihan Cole.
Mrs. Loughman was a member of Fourth Presbyterian Church and prior to her retirement had been employed by Taggart Valley Glass and Metro Glass. She was a 1943 graduate of Morris Township High School.
On May 17, 1946, she married Kenneth D. "Ki" Loughman Sr., who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Diane Voytek of West Middletown; a brother, G. Albert Cole of Washington; a sister, Betty C. Dille of Washington; five grandchildren, Dustin, Jared and Kimberly Loughman, Michele Gordon and Debra Elza; and one great-grandchild.

William C. Manning, 70, of 231 Morgan Street, Lower Burrell, died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 1998, in St. Margaret Hospital, Aspinwall.
He was born April 7, 1928, in Washington, a son of Sidney F. and Aldene M. Carter Manning.
Mr. Manning was employed as a state policeman for 30 years and as a detective for 15 years for Westmoreland County.
He lived in Lower Burrell for 40 years.
Mr. Manning was a member of St. Margaret Mary Roman Catholic Church, Lower Burrell.
He was a 1945 graduate of Washington High School and the County and State Detective Association of Pennsylvania. He was a member of Allegheny Lodge Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 39.
Mr. Manning served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1945 to 1947.
Surviving are his wife, Marcella Fiscus Manning; three daughters, Marcia Malesick of Weirton, W.Va., Susan Belli of Greensburg and Melissa Hummell of Crown Point, Ind.; and four grandchildren.

Luther E. Milspaw, 84, of Venetia, died Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Manor Care Nursing Home, Bethel Park.
Born March 12, 1914, in Sugar Grove, he was a son of Frank and Margaret Burch Milspaw.
Mr. Milspaw was a member of Peters Creek United Presbyterian Church, Venetia, for more than 41 years; a member of Lodge 547 of the Fraternal Order of Masons, Coudersport Consistory; and a member of Syria Mosque.
Mr. Milspaw was a World War II veteran, having served with the Royal Air Force in England, and was a 1937 graduate of Grove City College, obtaining a bachelor of science degree.
He retired in 1973 from Bell Telephone after 36 years of service, which included a variety of management positions in the plant and personnel departments.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy Johnson Milspaw; three sons, Luther E. Milspaw Jr. of Harrisburg, Robert F. Milspaw of McMurray and Geoffrey L. Milspaw of Atlanta, Ga.; a daughter, Margaret S. Milspaw of Pittsburgh; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Marie A. Rozanc, 83, of Bishop, died Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospitals-Canonsburg.
She was born September 27, 1915, in Victory Hill, a daughter of Andrew and Margaret Terle Behanna.
Mrs. Rozanc was the proprietor of Rozanc Service Station in Bishop until 1981.
She had served as a Democratic committeewoman in Cecil Precinct 4 for many years. She was a member of Cecil American Legion Auxiliary Post 793 and St. Anthony Church in Bridgeville.
Her husband, John C. Rozanc, died November 30 1993.

Charles R. Vernon, 62, of Garards Fort, died Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Lawnwood Medical Center, Fort Pierce, Fla.
He was born December 1, 1935, in Garards Fort, a son of the late Frank Vernon and Dorothy Headlee Vernon of Garards Fort.
Mr. Vernon was a retired southern facilities manager for National City Bank Corp.
He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean War, serving as a technical sergeant, and had served as Fayette County Veterans Affairs director in the mid-1970s.
Mr. Vernon was a former auditor of Greene Township, founder of YMCA Teen Center in San Antonio, Texas, and a member and past deacon at John Corbly Memorial Baptist Church, Garards Fort.
On October 20, 1955, he married Constance Kennedy, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Danny Ray Vernon of Garards Fort; a daughter, Roxanne Lynn Magerko of Garards Fort; five grandchildren, Rachel and Jeffrey Magerko, Angela and Neil Vernon and Gary Turver; a great-grandson; two brothers, Frank Vernon of Sacramento, Calif., and Shirl Vernon of Industry; and five sisters, Margaret Conard of Carmichaels, Joyce Butcho of Jefferson, Patty Verna of Bobtown, and Shirleen Smith and Sally Henry, both of Greensboro.

U.S. Air Force veteran of Korean War
Edward S. Walkos, 67, of Nemacolin, died Thursday, November 12, 1998, in his home.
He was born January 27, 1931, in Ronco, a son of Edward W. and Elizabeth R. Lilley Walkos.
Mr. Walkos was a retired truck driver.
He served in the U.S. Air Force as a corporal with the Strategic Air Command during the Korean War.
Mr. Walkos was a member of First Christian Church of Carmichaels, former fire chief of Nemacolin Volunteer Fire Department and a life member and former director of Greene County Civil Defense. He was a former board member of Greene County Headstart, former director of King Coal Association, member of American Legion Post 945 and a longtime member of Disabled American Veterans.
Surviving are five sons, John Fulmer of Mt. Morris and Edward William, Mark Lynn, Timothy Howard and Rodney Keith Walkos, all of Nemacolin; a daughter, Laurie Beth Mikalik of Dilliner; 17 grandchildren; two sisters, Elizabeth Nell Fozard of Carson City, Nev., and Pamela Mulloy of Kempner, Texas; and three brothers, William Walkos of Laplata, Md., Gerald Dale Walkos of Stafford, Va., and Allan Lee Walkos of Lam Passas, Texas.

Stanley W. Aspey, 96, of Carmichaels, died at 8 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 1998, in Greene County Memorial Hospital, Waynesburg.
He was born March 29, 1902, in Gates, a son of Albert Aspey and Ethel Cannon Aspey Cook.
Mr. Aspey was a retired coal miner from Robena Mine and was a member of UMWA.
On December 7, 1927, he married L. Ethel McKinney, who survives.
Also surviving are three sons, Vernon Aspey of Sullivan, Ohio, John Wallace Aspey of Monrovia, Md., and Louis Aspey of Carmichaels; two daughters, Barbara Sagges of Laurel, Md., and Lucille Mileo of North Olmsted, Ohio; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a brother, Kermit Aspey of Florida.

Helen Bayard, 100, of Windsor, Conn., formerly of Jefferson, Waynesburg and Rices Landing, Greene County, died Friday, November 13, 1998, in Windsor Rehabilitation Center in Windsor.
She was born July 3, 1898, in Jefferson.
Mrs. Bayard lived her entire life in Jefferson, Rices Landing and Waynesburg until moving to Windsor six years ago.
Before her retirement, she was an elementary school teacher at Jefferson Public School.
Mrs. Bayard was a member of Pennsylvania Retired Teachers Association, Daughters of the American Revolution, Jefferson United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women of the Church.
She was married to William Hewitt Bayard, now deceased.
Surviving are a daughter, Helen B. Hall, also of Windsor; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Liechti was a 1934 graduate of Canonsburg High School and was retired from the former Fort Pitt Bridge Works of Canonsburg.
A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Liechti was a member of First United Methodist Church of Canonsburg; a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg; a member of American Legion Post 902 of Houston; and a member of Canon Lodge 204 Knights of Pythias for more than 50 years.
On August 22, 1942, he married Ruth Stimpson, who died October 29, 1992.

George Edward McClead, 64, of Avella, died Friday, November 13, 1998, at his home.
He was born August 12, 1934, in Murrysville, W.Va., a son of the late Luther and Edna Frederick Dami McClead.
Mr. McClead served in the U.S. Army and retired from Weirton (W.Va.) Steel in 1985 after 33 years of service in the tin mill.
He lived most of his life in Avella, where he was a past member of SNPJ Lodge 292 and the Polish Star Mutual Benefit Society.
On October 15, 1986, he married Pauline Reed, who survives.

Charles Roger Walters Jr., 39, of Monongahela, died Thursday, November 12, 1998.
He was born November 17, 1958, in New Eagle, a son of Charles Roger Sr. and Dorothy Shook Walters, who survive and live in Monongahela.
Mr. Walters was a 1976 graduate of Ringgold High School and a graduate of Mon Valley Vocational-Technical School.
He was a self-employed electrician in the Mon Valley area and was contracted with several different area school districts for the transportation of school children.
Mr. Walters was Protestant.
Surviving are his wife, Lonna DeRosa Walters, with whom he celebrated 17 years of marriage July 25, 1998; a daughter, Stoni Lynn Walters, at home; two sisters, Barbara Coleman of Washington and Cathy Koontz of New Eagle; and two brothers, Eric Walters of Monongahela and Chris Walters of Conneaut Lake.

Sarah M. (Sally) Weaver, 82, of Marianna, died Friday, November 13, 1998, in her home.
She was born December 22, 1915, in Morgan Township, Greene County, a daughter of William H. and Lucy Lippencott Fulton.
Mrs. Weaver was a 1933 graduate of Waynesburg High School and a homemaker.
She was a lifelong member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a longtime member of the mixed couples bowling league at Tan-o-bell Lanes, Bentleyville.
On September 7, 1936, she married Chester A. Weaver, who survives.
Also surviving are a daughter, Serena Kay Ramsier of Manassas, Va.; a sister, Ruth W. Grimm of Marianna; four grandchildren, Daniel W. Ramsier, Donna K. Polk, LuAnn Thrasher and Lori R. Hertig; seven great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Emma Sylvia Scott Thomas, 86, of Washington, died Saturday, November 14, 1998.
She was born November 21, 1911, in Rutan, Greene County, a daughter of Claude and Mary Jane Iams Scott.
On March 16, 1929, she married Albert L. Thomas, who died November 21, 1974.
Surviving are a son, James of Washington; a daughter, Helen of Washington; a sister, Betty McCord of Washington; a brother, James Scott of Alabama; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Albert L. Thomas Jr. and Robert Thomas; and two sisters, Mildred Anderson and Alice Sprowls.

Cokeburg woman enjoyed cooking, baking
Bonnie Dee Poser, 74, of Cokeburg, died Saturday, November 14, 1998, in Washington Hospital.
She was born October 11, 1924, in Utica, Kan., a daughter of William V. and Elma Weber Stutz.
She enjoyed cooking, baking, helping others and spending time with her family.
Surviving are two daughters, Pam Fox of Hollidaysburg and Cecelia Pscolka of Bentleyville; a son, Baron Poser, at home; two brothers, Duane and Robert Stutz, both of Utica; two sisters, Ruth Parks of Overland Park, Kan., and Gwen Salmans of Hanston, Kan.; and four grandchildren, Aaron and Ryan Pscolka and Crystal and Megan Fox.
Deceased are a brother, Wilbur Stutz; and a sister, Thelma Atwell.
Visitation and services will be private. Arrangements are being handled by Greenlee Funeral Home, 619 Main Street, Bentleyville.

Nancy Jane Brinkman Marple, 76, of Meadow Drive, Glendale, W.Va., died Friday, November 13, 1998, in Wheeling (W.Va.) Hospital.
She was born August 10, 1922, a daughter of William and Virginia Snider Brinkman.
Mrs. Marple was a homemaker and was Protestant.
Surviving are her husband, Archie Dale Marple; a daughter, Karen Sue Conway of Claysville; a brother, Warren Brinkman of Wheeling; a sister, Grace Eckhardt of McMechen, W.Va.; two granddaughters, Kellie Sue Ryburn of Prosperity and Stacey Renee Conway of Claysville; and several cousins.

Rex Ted Lehew, 60, of Jefferson Avenue, Washington, died at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 1998, in his home following a brief illness.
He was born March 31, 1938, in Washington, a son of the late Martha Elizabeth Lehew.
He was Baptist.
Mr. Lehew had been employed as a custodian at Alpine Lanes in Washington and was a social member of the Alpine Club.
On April 20, 1970, he married Elsie Mae Dalton, who survives.
Also surviving are five sons, Preston J. Foster of Front Royal, Va., James Edward Foster of Damascus, Md., John W. Lehew of Belle Vernon, David Lee Foster of Washington and Kenneth Wade Foster of Donora; three daughters, Barbara Tusing of Monrovia, Md., M. Adele Wood of Washington and Patricia Ann Fetty of Houston; 17 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Oviedo Ulala Kelley, 79, of Duvall Road, Charleroi, Fallowfield Township, died at 1:04 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 1998, in Mon Valley Hospital.
She was born September 16, 1919, in Marion County, W.Va., a daughter of Timothy and Lucy Jones Stallings.
Mrs. Kelley was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Bentleyville.
On February 18, 1935, she married John Paul Kelley, who died October 28, 1995.
Surviving are four daughters, Paulette Minnicks of North Huntingdon, Laura Kelley of Carnegie, Viola Jones of Belle Vernon and June Kelley of Charleroi; nine grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
Deceased, in addition to her husband, are a son, Earnest Kelley, who died in 1989; a brother, Ronald Stallings; and a sister, Juanita Jordan.
Mary C. Kebart
Active member of former St. Elizabeth Church
Mary Catherine Kebart, 85, of Hendersonville, died Saturday, November 14, 1998, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident last month.
She was born May 30, 1913, in Treveskyn, a daughter of Joseph and Catherine Narmus Stankus.
She was a member of St. Mary Roman Catholic Church, Cecil. Prior to its closing, she had attended St. Elizabeth Church in Lawrence, where she was a member of its Christian Mothers.
Mrs. Kebart lived the last 50 years in Hendersonville. She enjoyed crocheting and collecting pictures, and in younger years, polka dancing.
On June 16, 1930, she married Michael Joseph Kebart, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Charles Kebart of Canonsburg; a daughter, Elizabeth Haggerty of Hendersonville; eight grandchildren, Mary Dami, Kathleen Lewis, Roger Haggerty Jr., Joni Hunter, Randy Haggerty, Patricia Kaczmarek, Charles Kebart Jr. and Joseph Kebart; 15 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Michael Joseph Kebart Jr., who died in infancy; a daughter, Mary Catherine Kebart, who died in infancy; three brothers, Joseph, George and Charles Stankus; and two sisters, Alice Nabozas and Ann Refosco.
Mrs. Kebart was the last of her immediate family.

Willis Stanley Hixenbaugh, 83, of 122 Railroad Street, Bentleyville, formerly of Greene County, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday, November 15, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospitals-Canonsburg.
He was born November 7, 1915, in Kughntown, a son of William Henry and Rebecca Kughn Hixenbaugh.
He was employed for 30 years as a pipeline walker for Peoples Natural Gas Co. of Monongahela until his retirement January 1, 1978.
Surviving are his wife, Sadie E. Hixenbaugh, whom he married August 7, 1939; two daughters, Julia E. Berardinelli of Woodstock, Md., and Tammy Hixenbaugh of Bentleyville; two sons, Cecil W. Hixenbaugh of Eastlake, Ohio, and Ronald J. Hixenbaugh of Bentleyville; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hixenbaugh was the last of his immediate family.
Deceased are three sons, Minor Henry Hixenbaugh, Willis S. Hixenbaugh Jr. and a son who died in infancy; five brothers, Dorsey Leroy, Carl Dean, Russell Lawrence and Floyd Hixenbaugh, and Hagan Hixenbaugh, who died in infancy; and a sister, Artie Mae Burnfield.

Jay A. Hayes, 45, of McMurray, died Saturday, November 14, 1998.
Mr. Hayes sold new and used cranes for the past 14 years and was co-owner of Hike N' Bike bicycle shop in Peters Township.
He was a member of Southgate-Marshall Lodge 808 F&AM and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 764.
Surviving are his mother, Patricia Wolfe Hayes; his wife, Janet L. Hayes; two stepsons, Daniel and Michael Jillisky; a brother, Thomas P. Hayes; and a sister, Carla Hayes.
His father, Thomas P. Hayes, is deceased.

Harry V. Gregory, 64, of Waynesburg R.D.3, died Saturday, November 14, 1998, in Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va., following a lengthy illness.
He was born September 27, 1934, in Canonsburg, a son of Mary Tomor Gregory of Cecil and the late Harry Joseph Gregory.
Mr. Gregory worked as a coal miner for Cyprus Cumberland Resources in Kirby and was a member of United Mine Workers of America.
He was a former resident of Canonsburg and had lived in Waynesburg since 1979.
Mr. Gregory was Catholic and enjoyed fishing and golf.
On July 7, 1956, he married Karen Hervol, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife and mother, are a daughter, Kim Snyder of Hamilton, Ohio; three sons, William and Robert Gregory, both of San Mateo, Calif., and Jason Gregory, at home; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; a brother, Richard Gregory of Canonsburg; a sister, Carol Ann Teyssier of Cecil; and several nieces and nephews.
An infant brother is deceased.

John Delbert Figley, 94, of Burgettstown, died Sunday, November 15, 1998, in his home.
He was born December 29, 1903, in Burgettstown, a son of Bertrand B. and Bertha M. Karns Figley.
At 8 years old, he began working with his father at B.B. Figley & Son Feed Store in Burgettstown, where he became the owner and manager, retiring in 1973.
He was a member of Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church, Richard Vaux Lodge 454 F&AM of Burgettstown and Scottish Rite of Pittsburgh.
On August 14, 1936, in Berryville, Va., he married Grace Louis Cooley, who survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Irene Sanders of Falls Church, Va., Sue Klein of Locust Valley, N.Y., and Mary Jo Pendeville and Sandra Allison, both of Burgettstown; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Deceased are two sisters, Thelma Riggle and Helen Burns; and a grandson, John Figley Sanders.

James Donati, 87, of Eldersville, died Saturday, November 14, 1998, in his home.
He was born October 23, 1911, in Burgettstown, a son of Anthony and Magdelena Donati.
He was employed by Weirton Steel Corp. before retiring in 1977.
Mr. Donati was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Army. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars in Burgettstown.
Surviving are his wife, Downie Mirich Donati; a son, Dennis Donati of Eldersville; a daughter, Diane Donati of New York City, N.Y.; two brothers, Art Donati of Eldersville and Matthew Donati of Florida; and three sisters, Margaret Froats, Virginia Madison and Mary Tepsic, all of Burgettstown.

Robert B. Davis, 77, of Pleasant Hills, died Friday, November 13, 1998.
Mr. Davis played football for Penn State University from 1939 to 1942 and with the Pittsburgh Steelers from 1945 to 1950.
He was an elder of Pleasant Hills Community Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are his wife, Jane "Aubrey" Davis; three children, Nancy Murphy, Thomas E. Davis and David A. Davis; and four grandchildren, Thomas E. Davis Jr., Matthew D. Davis, Hanna Cook Davis and Benjamin Cook Davis.

Mrs. Cizmek was a homemaker and a member of Ave Maria Parish and its Women's Guild.
Surviving are her husband, Michael J. Cizmek; two sons, Mickey Cizmek of Washington (Glyde) and Robert "Buck" Cizmek of Beallsville; a daughter, Janet Dulick of Aliquippa; nine grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Carmichaels was a chef.

Ida Caldwell, 90, of Burgettstown, died Sunday, November 15, 1998, in Washington Hospital.
She was born April 7, 1908, in Warrendale, a daughter of Clarence E. and Florence M. McPherson Wagner.
Mrs. Caldwell was a secretary for 40 years with Pittsburgh Community Bank of Pittsburgh, prior to her retirement.
She was a member of Hillcrest United Presbyterian Church of Burgettstown.
Surviving are a sister, Erma Archer of Cleveland, Ohio; three nieces; four nephews; 15 great-nieces; nine great-nephews; 19 great-great-nieces; 19 great-great-nephews; and two great-great-great-nieces.
Deceased are her husband, Raymond Caldwell, who died April 25, 1981; and a brother, Edwin O. Wagner, who died February 26, 1994.
Alva Stephens Bailey
WWII vet was retired U.S. Marine Corps major
Alva Stephens "Hogan" Bailey, 78, of Mount Morris R.D.1 (Davistown), died Saturday, November 14, 1998, in his home.
He was born June 18, 1920, in Carmichaels, a son of Alva Inghram and Helen Stephens Bailey.
He was a 1938 graduate of Cumberland Township High School in Carmichaels, attended Waynesburg College and was a graduate of University of California, Los Angeles.
Mr. Bailey served in the U.S. Marine Corps in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He also served in the Korean war and retired at the rank of major in 1963.
Following his military service, he worked for 11 years until his retirement as a spare parts coordinator for McDonnell Douglas Corp., St. Louis, Mo.
Mr. Bailey was a member of Masonic Blue Lodge in Santa Ana, Calif., where he also was a 32nd-degree member of the Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a charter member of Morningside Presbyterian Church in Santa Ana, a member of the Retired Officers Association and the Aviation Fleet Marines.
Mr. Bailey had resided in Davistown since 1975.
On December 18, 1943, he married Theda Litman, who died December 17, 1989.
Surviving are a daughter, Devonna "Debbie" Boone of Mt. Morris; two sons, Edgar A. Bailey of Jefferson City, Mo., and Verne M. Bailey of Morgantown, W.Va.; six granchildren, James S., John S., Catherine C., Ian Alva S. and Joshua Aaron S. Bailey and Cherida D. Rosak; a great-grandson; a niece and a nephew.
Deceased, in addition to his wife, are two brothers, Thomas E. Bailey, who died in infancy, and Edward Eugene Bailey; and a sister, Flora Frances Bailey.

Alice G. Brooks, 96, formerly of Fayette Street, Washington, died at 11 a.m. Monday, November 16, 1998, in Kade Nursing Home, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 10, 1902, in Morris Township, Washington County, a daughter of William J. and Florence Earnest Weir.
Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker and had worked at the former Washington County Children's Home.
She enjoyed sewing, and was a member of First Christian Church of Washington.
On February 27, 1926, she married Thomas J. Brooks, who died April 19, 1963.
Surviving are a son, Edward W. Brooks of Washington; a brother, Lee H. Earnest of Washington; a grandson, Edward G. Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a son, Charles "Cab" A. Brooks; and a brother, Merle Earnest.

Irene Stellavato DeRose, 92, formerly of Mill Street, Washington, died at 5:50 a.m. Monday, November 16, 1998, in Washington Hospital, following a lengthy illness.
She was born March 30, 1906, in Crothers Station, a daughter of Joseph Nicholas and Angela DeMartino Stellavato.
Mrs. DeRose was a homemaker. She was a 1922 graduate of Immaculate Conception High School and was a member of Immaculate Conception Church.
She was formerly employed by Sidway Topland Toy Manufacturing as a secretary.
On November 11, 1925, she married Charles DeRose, who died May 7, 1986.
Surviving are three sons, Francis A. DeRose of Washington, Ret. Lt. Col. Charles N. DeRose Jr. of Springfield, Va., and Robert E. DeRose of Cokeburg; a brother, Albert J. Stellavato of Washington; seven grandchildren, Kevin, Jeffrey, Craig, Mark, Eric, Robert II and Joseph DeRose; and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four sisters, Angeline Stellavato, Emily Roth, Mary Faiella and Elvie Vitus; and five brothers, James, Frank, Anthony and Alfred Stellavato and Melvin Stell.

Carolyn Gregory Hudson, 52, of Alexandria, Va., died November 5, 1998, at home.
She was born July 22, 1946, in Brownsville, a daughter of Andy Gregory of Fredericktown and the late Henrietta Swaney Gregory.
Mrs. Hudson was employed as program coordinator for the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food, Safety and Inspection Service in Washington, D.C.
Surviving in addition to her father, are a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Smith of Radford, Va.; and a sister, Andrea Miers of Bella Vista, Ark.
A memorial service was held in Arlington, Va. The family will hold a local memorial service at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Eva G. Kacvinsky, 76, of Canonsburg, died Monday, November 16, 1998, in Allegheny University Hospital-Canonsburg, following a brief illness.
She was born November 26, 1921, in Pierce, W.Va., a daughter of Michael and Julia Pernik Gumber.
Mrs. Kacvincky lived most of her life in the Muse and Canonsburg areas and was employed 25 years as a teller at Mellon Bank in Canonsburg.
She had been a member of St. Michael Byzantine Catholic Church, Canonsburg, and St. Gregory Byzantine Catholic Church, Upper St. Clair. She was a member of GCU.
On June 25, 1949, she married Joseph Kacvinsky, who died June 11, 1986.
Surviving are two sisters, Anne Subrick of Eighty Four and Margaret Zubenko of Strabane; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are three brothers, John, Andrew and Michael Gomber; and four sisters, Anna Jandrich, Mary Anderson, Jay Walker and Helena Gumbar.
Charles Peterson

Charles Peterson, 87, of New York City, formerly of Washington, died Friday, November 13, 1998, in Silver Crest Extended Care Facility of New York Hospital.
He was born July 13, 1911, in Birmingham, Ala, a son of David and Nora Lee Williams Peterson.
He attend grade school in Birmingham and high school in Fairmont, W.Va. He was a retired executive of Gimbels Department Store, Pittsburgh.
While residing in Washington, he was a member of Nazareth Baptist Church, where he was an acting interim pastor and a member of the board of deacons.
On April 16, 1935, in Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Washington, he married Mary Agnes Scott, who died December 3, 1992.
Surviving are a son, Charles Louis Peterson of Brownsville; a daughter, the Rev. Dr. Carolyn Ann Distant of New York, N.Y.; a brother, William Earnest Peterson of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandsons, Charles F. and David Peterson, Lawrence Mack and Hope Distant; nine great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, deceased are a brother, David S. Peterson; a sister, Fannie Gardner; and a granddaughter, Tara McDougal.
Thomas M. Proger
Mine mechanic was World War II Navy veteran
Thomas M. Proger, 79, of May Avenue, Washington, died at 9:35 p.m. Sunday, November 15, 1998, in his home following a six-month illness.
He was born September 1, 1919, in Venetia, a son of Joseph and Mary Proger.
Mr. Proger was a member of Immaculate Conception Church
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific and Atlantic Theaters, receiving the Victory Medal, American Campaign ribbon and Asiatic-Pacific and European-African Medal.
Mr. Proger was employed at Marianna Mine for 43 years as a mechanic.
He was a member of Marianna American Legion Steel-Lillie Post 744 and the Anawanna Hunting and Fishing Club,
On October 10, 1941, he married Emily Lenik, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Nancy C. Pattison of Claysville and Kitty L. Sten of Washington; a brother, Ralph Proger of Aliquippa; five grandchildren, Timothy, Thomas and Anthony Pattison, Julie Sten and Tami Sten Krysko; and eight great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Joseph, Frank, Anthony and John Proger; and a sister, Mary Krulc.
Harold E. Seabright
McDonald man spent much of his life farming
Harold E. "Dixie" Seabright, 92, of McDonald (North Fayette Township), died Monday, November 16, 1998, in his home.
He was born December 28, 1905, in Primrose, a son of Frederick and Margaret Elizabeth Wiegman Seabright.
Mr. Seabright graduated from Finley High School and spent much of his life farming in North Fayette Township.
During World War II, he fired the boilers for Champion Coal Co. He worked in the maintenance department for West Allegheny School District for 14 years and also was a substitute mail carrier for the McDonald R.D.1 route.
On June 21, 1930, he married Florence C. Simonson, who survives.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son Harold E. "Lucky" Seabright of McDonald; two daughters, Elaine Deemer Yospyn of Monroeville and Dixie Lee Murray of Brockway; two grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Deceased are three brothers and six sisters.

Helen F. Shashura, 79, of Denbo Heights, died Monday, November 16, 1998, in Brownsville General Hospital.
She was born September 17, 1919, in Besco.
Mrs. Shashura was a charter member of the Brownsville Eagles Club.
Her husband, Charles H. Shashura, is deceased.
Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Mann of Robbinsville, N.J., and Judee Richards of Jefferson; two sons, Charles W. Thomas E. Wolff
Crucible resident worked in clothing stores
Thomas E. Wolff, 61, of Crucible, died Monday, November 16, 1998, in his home.
He was born June 21, 1937, in Crucible, a son of Herman C. and Emma A. Sablotny Wolff.
Mr. Wolff lived his entire life in Crucible. He was a graduate of Carmichaels High School and was a member of Carmichaels United Methodist Church.
He worked for several area men's stores. For more than 20 years, he worked at the Army and Navy in Waynesburg. He also worked at Kaufmann's men's department and Morris Men's Shop in Uniontown. He most recently worked as a private duty nurse.
For the past 23 years, Mr. Wolff made his home with Dewey Scott.
Surviving are four sisters, Gertrude E. Busti of Crucible, Meta Stacey of Rices Landing R.D.1, Helen Santelle of Brownsville and Ruth Blaker of Waynesburg; two brothers, Hans Wolff of Clarksville and Leo Wolff of Jefferson; and several nieces and nephews.

Ruth H. Boswell, 96, of Thomas Campbell Apartments, Washington, died at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, November 17, 1998, in Washington County Health Center, Washington.
She was born September 1, 1902, in Washington, a daughter of William H. and Harriet Ford Boone.
Mrs. Boswell was educated in Washington School District and graduated from Duffs-Iron City Business College in Pittsburgh.
She was an 80-year member of First United Presbyterian Church of Washington, and was a member of the church's Ladies Aid and Women's Federation. She also was a 60-year member of Lincoln Chapter 112, and a member of Eastern Star.
On August 17, 1925, she married, Robert J. Boswell, who died August 29, 1968.
Surviving are two sons, Robert J. Boswell of Lititz and James B. Boswell of Greensburg; a daughter, Peggy B. Hutchinson of Washington; a sister, Ethel B. Stedman of Washington; four grandchildren, James Boswell, Elizabeth Ann Hershey, Barbara J. Brunner and Judith L. Pacek; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two brothers, William H. Boone and Colin B. Schreiber; and a sister, Dorothy B. Lucas.
Alice G. Brooks
Worked at former county Children's Home
Alice G. Brooks, 96, formerly of Fayette Street, Washington, died at 11 a.m. Monday, November 16, 1998, in Kade Nursing Home, Washington, following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 10, 1902, in Morris Township, Washington County, a daughter of William J. and Florence Earnest Weir.
Mrs. Brooks was a homemaker and had worked at the former Washington County Children's Home.
She enjoyed sewing, and was a member of First Christian Church of Washington.
On February 27, 1926, she married Thomas J. Brooks, who died April 19, 1963.
Surviving are a son, Edward W. Brooks of Washington; a brother, Lee H. Earnest of Washington; a grandson, Edward G. Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a son, Charles "Cab" A. Brooks; and a brother, Merle Earnest.

Brooks, formerly of Fayette Street, Washington, who died Monday, November 16, 1998, will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Hummell and Barnhill Memorial Chapel Inc., 585 Fayette Street, Washington, where a service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, November 19, with the Rev. Bob Brooks officiating. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Gardens, McMurray.
Barbara A. Sieracki

Barbara A. Sieracki, 83, of Washington, died at 12:10 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 1998.
She was born November 13, 1915, in Bower, W.Va., a daughter of Pasquale and Rose Nicastro Perry.
Mrs. Sieracki was a member of Holy Trinity National Catholic Church.
She had made her home in the Tylerdale section of Washington until her illness when she moved to Washington County Health Center.
Mrs. Sieracki had been an employee of Hazel Atlas Glass Co.
On April 28, 1950, she married Tony Sieracki, who died June 7, 1992.
Surviving are a daughter, Rita Ross Warnick of Coraopolis; a brother, Samuel Perry of Washington; four sisters, Josephine Stefanizzi of Star City, W.Va., Theresa Belcastro, Angeline Oliverio and Ann Vankirk all of Washington; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, John Perry; and two sisters, Mary Merlo and Jennie Schultz.
John Weber
Owned and operated Webers Snack Bar
John Weber, 87, of Washington died at 8 p.m. Monday, November 16, 1998, in Presbyterian Medical Center, Washington.
He was born November 30, 1910, in Hill Station, a son of John and Rosalia Skalka Weber.
Mr. Weber was first employed by Andy Brothers and later for Hazel Atlas Glass Co. He owned and operated Webers Snack Bar for more than 20 years.
He was a member of Alpine Lodge.
Mr. Weber enjoyed golfing.
On October 25, 1934, he married Mary Costanzo, who died March 24, 1970.
Surviving are two sons, the Rev. John R. Weber and Donald A. Weber, both of Pittsburgh; a brother, Paul Weber of Naples, Fla.; a sister, Kathryn Eklund of Washington; two grandchildren, Donald Weber Jr. and Renee Weber McGinn; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased is a brother, Frank Weber.
Verenia W. Young
Member of Laboratory Presbyterian Church
Verenia W. Young, 72, of Washington, died Tuesday, at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 1998, following a three-year illness.
She was born June 21, 1926, in Deep Valley, a daughter of William C. and Lulu Rae Walter
Mrs. Young was a member of Laboratory Presbyterian Church and was a former employee of Pittsburgh National Bank.
She attended school in Cameron, W.Va., and was a 1944 graduate of Trinity High School. She also was a graduate of Penn Commercial College.
Mrs. Young was a member of Washington Chapter 409 Order of Eastern Star and had been active with the Supreme Council Ladies of the Valley of Coudersport.
On April 17, 1949, she married Earl R. "Pete" Young, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Kevin Walter Young of Washington; a sister, Mardelle Jankoski of Washington; three grandchildren, Keith, Clark and Karley Young.
Deceased are a son, Steven Wilson Young; and a brother James Frederick Walter.
Cory Michael Bayles
Family from West Virginia
Cory Michael Bayles, infant son of Melissa Wiseman Bayles and Steven Bayles of Cameron, W.Va., died shortly after birth Monday, November 16, 1998, in Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown, W.Va.
Surviving, in addition to his parents, are a brother, Cody Steven Bayles, at home; maternal grandparents, Douglas and Laura Wiseman of Cameron; paternal grandparents, Nelson Bayles of Cameron and Saundra Bayles of Wind Ridge and paternal stepgrandmother Debbie Bayles of Cameron; maternal great-grandparents, Worley and Karel McFadden and Lloyd and Frances Wiseman, all of Cameron; and paternal great-grandmothers, Jane Bayles of West Palm Beach, Fla., and Kate Parsons of Wind Ridge.
Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
Rose Rita Gromacki
Former Canonsburg resident worked at Pentagon
Rose Rita Gromacki, 86, of Springfield, Va., formerly of Canonsburg, died Tuesday, November 17, 1998, in Sleepy Hollow Manor Nursing Home, Annandale, Va., following a lengthy illness.
She was born August 6, 1912, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of John and Casmira Staniszewski Gromacki.
Mrs. Gromacki graduated from Immaculate Conception High School, Washington, and worked at the former Continental Can Co. in Canonsburg.
While living in Canonsburg, she was a member of St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church. After moving to the Washington, D.C., area in the 1950s, she was a member of St. Matthew's Roman Catholic Church.
Mrs. Gromacki was a private secretary to a five-star general at the Pentagon in Arlington, Va., and also was employed at the Ford Foundation at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington.
Surviving are a sister, Sophie Caruso of Canonsburg, and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a brother, Joseph Gromacki; and a sister, Mary O'Loughlin.
D. Kent MacCartney
Retired insurance agency owner
D. Kent MacCartney, 58, of Claysville, died at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, 1998, at home, after a brief illness.
He was born August 16, 1940, in Wheeling, W.Va., a son of the late Donald T. MacCartney and Helen L. MacCartney of Washington.
Mr. MacCartney was a 1958 graduate of Claysville High School and a 1962 graduate of Grove City College.
He attended Grace Bible Church in West Middletown.
Mr. MacCartney was an insurance agent for many insurance companies until he became owner-operator of MacCartney Insurance Agency, retiring in 1989.
He was secretary of BPOE Lodge 776 for several years and was an honorary life member, past exalted ruler and past district deputy grand exalted ruler.
He was a member of Claysville American Legion Post 639, Arms Club and Bears Club.
He served on the board of directors of Greene County Country Club, was active in youth sports for the past 15 years, coached boys basketball, coached and managed youth baseball and served as president of Claysville Youth Baseball Association for the past two years.
Mr. MacCartney was honorably discharged from the Army National Guard and was in the Army Reserves in 1968.
On June 24, 1978, he married Kathy Six, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, D. Kyle and Ryan C. MacCartney, both at home; a daughter, Tracey MacCartney Jacob of Columbia, S.C.; two sisters, Susan J. Quinlan of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Loria Ann MacCartney of Eden Prairie, Minn.; a niece, several nephews and an aunt.
