Harry W. Bails

Harry W. "Rocky" Bails, 63, of Canonsburg, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in Washington Hospital.
He was born May 22, 1938, in Canonsburg, a son of the late Boyd Albert and Arretta Kennel Bails.
Mr. Bails was a lifelong Canonsburg resident and a member of Chartiers Hill United Presbyterian Church, Houston Independent Club, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 861 of Canonsburg, Chartiers Hill Dartball team and Greater Canonsburg Senior Citizens.
He was a 1957 graduate of East Washington High School.
Mr. Bails served with the U.S. Army for nine years. In order to play football for the Marine team in Hawaii, he was made an honorary Marine while serving with the U.S. Army.
He played semi-professional football for the Washington Generals and coached the Mighty Mac football team for nine years. He also coached Little League baseball.
Prior to its closing, Mr. Bails was employed by Cooper Industries.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, card playing and gardening.
On August 11, 1960, he married Barbara Patti Powers, who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Michael Jay Bails; a brother, James Neal Bails; and a sister, Rita E. Smiddle, all of Canonsburg; a grandson, Darrell W. Bails; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, William and Donald Carter, Frank Bails and the Rev. Charles Bails; and a sister, Betty Lee Bails.
John M. Braden Jr.
Washington Post Office superintendent
John M. Braden Jr., 66, of Washington, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, in his home.
He was born April 16, 1935, in Washington, a son of John McIntyre and Catherine Manion Braden.
Mr. Braden worked in Washington Post Office for 38 years, most recently as postal operations superintendent.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was a member of the American Legion.
On June 17, 1961, in Washington, he married Dorothy Bannister, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Deborah and Johanna "Jodi" Braden, both of Washington; a brother, Alfred G. Braden of Emporium; two sisters, Catherine Hemlepp of New York City, N.Y. and Ida Perrault of Lombard, Ill.; and a granddaughter, Chanel Allen.
Clyde L. Bonds
Member of Friendship Baptist Church
Clyde L. Bonds, 82, of Washington, died unexpectedly Friday, July 6, 2001, in his home.
He was born January 20, 1919, in Bessemer, Ala., a son of Viola Eddins and Willie C. Bonds.
Mr. Bonds was a member of Friendship Baptist Church of Washington, where he served as deacon. He also served as an usher and was an active member of the senior choir and gospel chorus.
He was previously employed as a truck driver with W.H. Martin Co. in Washington.
Surviving are his wife, Gertrude I. Bonds; a son, Robert V. Reed of Pittsburgh; a daughter, Vera Bonds of Los Angeles, Calif.; and two grandchildren.
Deceased are a sister and a brother.
Marjorie E. Dulaney
Longtime member of Ten Mile Church of the Brethren
Marjorie E. Dulaney, 76, of Marianna, died Sunday, July 8, 2001, in IHS Greenery of Canonsburg.
She was born January 31, 1925, in Lincoln Hill (Washington), a daughter of Herman and Margaret Kaylor.
Mrs. Dulaney had attended West Bethlehem Township area schools.
She was a homemaker and a longtime member of Ten Mile Church of the Brethren near Marianna. She also was a member of Marianna Women's Club and a former secretary of Laurel Grange.
Mrs. Dulaney also had been active with various youth groups at Highland Brethren Church near Marianna.
On August 11, 1943, she married Kinsey F. Dulaney, who died July 10, 1986.
Surviving are seven sons, Kinsey F. Dulaney Jr. and Ernie L. Dulaney, both of Madera, Calif., Danny Paul Dulaney of Wyoming, David L. Dulaney of Claysville, Gary J. Dulaney of Fayetteville, N.C., Michael H. Dulaney of Marianna and Jeff R. Dulaney of Smithfield; a daughter, Sandra L. Dulaney of Eighty Four; two brothers, Ernie Kaylor of Olmstead, Ohio, and Herman Kaylor of Clearwater, Fla.; two sisters, Audrey Morris of Mather and Edna Kaylor of New York; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a grandson, Jason Dulaney; and three sisters, Dorothy Frederick and Johanna and Alberta Kaylor, both who died in infancy.
Edward Furmanek
Veteran of Army Air Forces' 317th Fighter Squadron
Edward Furmanek, 81, of Meadow Lands, died at 4:15 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2001, in the Greenery, North Strabane Township.
He was born October 6, 1919, in Meadow Lands, a son of Roman and Mary Pruknowicz Furmanek.
Mr. Furmanek attended Meadow Lands schools. He also attended Miraculous Medal Roman Catholic Church of Meadow Lands.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army Air Forces in the 317th Fighter Squadron, 325th Fighter Group, in Europe.
Before his retirement, Mr. Furmanek was a road supervisor in Chartiers Township for 20 years.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and National Rifle Association. He liked to hunt and fish.
Surviving are a brother, Frank Furmanek, and a sister, Sophie Filosi, both of Meadow Lands; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers and a sister.
Vasco J. Marraccini
Lifelong resident of New Eagle
Vasco Joseph Marraccini, 85, of New Eagle, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in Thorpes' Personal Care Home, Charleroi.
He was born June 5, 1916, in New Eagle, a son of Modesta and Narcissa Fornaciare Marraccini.
Mr. Marraccini was a lifelong resident of New Eagle.
He was a member of Transfiguration Roman Catholic Church of Monongahela.
Mr. Marraccini was a graduate of Monongahela High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in World War II and the Korean War.
Mr. Marraccini was a life member of New Eagle Volunteer Fire Department and retired from Lee-Norse Co. of Charleroi.
Surviving are a son, Leonard Marraccini of Finleyville; and two grandsons, Dean and Damon Marraccini.
Deceased are his wife, Ada Parente Marraccini, who died in 1981; two brothers, Joseph and Geno Marraccini; and two sisters, Margaret Schwartz and Nellie Marraccini.
John C. McDonald
John C. McDonald, 57, of Carrick, died Saturday, July 7, 2001, in his home.
He was born May 17, 1944, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Cyril and Ruth Clark McDonald.
Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Mary Orga McDonald; three children, Marlene and Michael McDonald and Amy LaBarge; and three grandchildren.

Valeria Hundzienski
Homemaker loved to crochet
Valeria J. Hundzienski, 85, of Canonsburg, died at 2:40 a.m. Sunday, July 8, 2001, in Canonsburg General Hospital.
She was born September 23, 1915, in Arona (Westmoreland County), a daughter of John and Sophie Glos Capiola.
Mrs. Hundzienski spent most of her life in Canonsburg, where she was a member of St. Genevieve Roman Catholic Church and its Holy Rosary Society.
She loved to crochet when her health permitted.
Mrs. Hundzienski was a homemaker.
On February 19, 1936, she married Joseph Hundzienski, who died December 24, 1993.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth Hundzienski of Canonsburg; four daughters, Valeria Parganos of New York City, N.Y., Kathleen Behanna of Monongahela and Patricia Veres and Carol Bell, both of Canonsburg; a brother, Alex Capiola of Canonsburg; two sisters, Mary Holland of Canonsburg and Sophie Conn of Yellow Springs, W.Va.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are a son, Joseph "Whitey" Hundzienski Jr.; a brother, August Capiola; and a grandson, Shawn Hundzienski.
John J. Paraska

John Joseph Paraska, 64, of Washington, died Friday, July 6, 2001, in Kindred Hospital, Oakdale.
He was born May 5, 1937, in Washington, a son of Mary Gregosky Paraska of Washington and the late Fred C. Paraska.
Mr. Paraska was a graduate of Washington High School and Dean Technology Institute.
He was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church of Washington.
He was an avid outdoorsman.
Mr. Paraska served in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1956 to 1958.
He worked as an electrician for Jessop Steel Corp., which later became Allegheny Ludlum, until his retirement in 1996.
On January 28, 1960, in Washington, he married Barbara Miklic, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, Richard Paraska of Kill Devil Hills, N.C., and Michael Paraska of Portsmouth, Va.; a daughter, Erin Paraska of Kitty Hawk, N.C.; two brothers, Robert Paraska of Lady Lake, Fla., and Fred Paraska of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sisters, Ann Mages of Pittsburgh and Margaret Gregg of Washington; three grandchildren, Heather and John Colby Paraska and Jessica Boothe; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are two sisters, Helen Moulden and Flora Sprowls.
John G. Gilbert
Truck driver for Gilbert Construction
John G. "Punk" Gilbert, 64, of McDonald, died unexpectedly Sunday, June 17, 2001, in his home.
He was born October 21, 1936, in Primrose, a son of Bernice Horner Gilbert of McDonald and the late John B. Gilbert.
Mr. Gilbert was a truck driver for Gilbert Construction, where he retired after eight years of service. He also worked for Homestead Industries in Coraopolis.
He was a member of Pennsylvania Harness Racing Association.
Surviving are a son, John W. Gilbert of Midway; two daughters, Roxanna Baxter and Marsha Slater, both of the state of California; three sisters, Lena Demnyan, Donna Ralstan and Linda Rese; and six grandchildren, Megan and John Waylon Gilbert, Robert Baxter and Noah, Devan and Kayla Slater.
William A. Kisow Jr.
U.S. Army veteran of World War II
William A. Kisow Jr., 83, of Midway, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in his home.
He was born July 12, 1917, in Tyre, a son of William Sr. and Anna Uzlik Kisow.
Mr. Kisow was a U.S. Army during World War II
He was past commander and chief of Midway Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of Paris Sportsmen Club.
Mr. Kisow enjoyed hunting, the outdoors and gardening.
On May 29, 1946, he married Helen Sekelik, who survives.
Also surviving are two daughters, Diana Hlad of Midway and Shirley Godish of Hendersonville; a brother, Ernest Kisow of Florida; and a granddaughter, Debra Hlad Spencer.
Deceased is a sister, Elma Kersten.
Jane Minor Adams
Nurse and volunteer was native of Waynesburg
Jane Minor Adams, 81, of Morgantown, W.Va., died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in her home after a lengthy illness.
She was born January 12, 1920, in Waynesburg.
Mrs. Adams graduated from Waynesburg High School in 1938 and from Washington Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse in 1941.
In 1942, she married John D. Adams, DDS, and worked as a nurse in city hospitals during World War II along the East and West coasts while her husband was a naval officer in the Pacific fleet.
After the war, she worked as a nurse in St. Louis University Hospital in Missouri.
In 1958, she moved to Morgantown, with her family because her husband joined the faculty at West Virginia University Dental School.
Mrs. Adams was a member of Monongalia County Dental Auxiliary and American Red Cross.
She volunteered her services at Monongalia General Hospital and West Virginia University Medical Center. She also worked as a volunteer with the American Red Cross Blood Bank.
In 1968, Mrs. Adams returned to nursing in Vincent Pallotte Hospital in Morgantown for a few years.
She was a 43-year member of First Baptist Church of Morgantown. She volunteered as a PTA president, Cub Scout and Girl Scout Brownie troop leader.
Her hobbies included gourmet cooking, entertaining family and friends, playing bridge, growing flowers, especially roses, and collecting and restoring antiques. Her favorite pasttime was fishing for bass in Canada.
Surviving are her son, John Adams of Mt. Lebanon; a daughter, Catherine A. Hamilton of Morgantown; five grandchildren, David, Caitlin and Ann Adams and Karen and Brian Hamilton; and sister, Eleanor Minor Carnahan of New Castle.
Deceased are her husband of 55 years, John D. Adams; an infant daughter, Susan Jane Adams; and a brother, William C. Minor.
Homer H. Hartley

Homer H. Hartley, 88, of Carmichaels, died Sunday, June 17, 2001, in Uniontown Hospital.
He was born August 15, 1912, in Rices Landing, a son of William F. and Iona Riffle Hartley.
On August 14, 1941, he married Evalyn Mundell, who is deceased.
Mr. Hartley was a member of Sugar Grove Baptist Church, Carmichaels Grange 1389, Greene County Pomona Grange 63, Pennsylvania State Grange and National Grange, which he joined in 1935.
Surviving are a son, Brice Hartley of Woodbridge, Va.; and two grandchildren, Renee Hartley and Dana Hartley.
Deceased are two brothers, William and Arthur Hartley; and two sisters, Hazel Reynolds and Helen Minor.
Mary Catherine Aloe

Mary Catherine Aloe, 80, of West Alexander, died Thursday, June 14, 2001, in her home.
She was born May 22, 1921, in Washington, a daughter of Frank and Emma Comito Sim.
Mrs. Aloe was a member of Sacred Heart Worship Site of Immaculate Conception Parish in Claysville.
She was a homemaker and a graduate of Washington High School.
Mrs. Aloe enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, baking, cooking and playing bingo.
On September 4, 1950, in Immaculate Conception Church, she married Louis J. "Bud" Aloe, who died October 12, 1995.
Surviving are three sons, Michael Aloe of West Alexander, Robert Aloe of Triadelphia, W.Va., and Edward Aloe of West Alexander; a daughter, Judith Seabright of West Alexander; two brothers, Michael Sim of Washington and George Sim of Bellefont; three sisters, Martha Greco, Rosemarie Nichol and Frances Gisoni, all of Washington; six grandchildren, Carrie and Jodie Aloe, Jocelyn, Jordan and Jake Seabright and Mariah Aloe; and a stepgranddaughter, Mishay Holman.
Doris A.C. Barnhart

Doris A. C. Sten Barnhart, 81, of Washington, died at 9 a.m. Sunday, June 17, 2001, in her home.
She was born September 17, 1919, in Washington, a daughter of Albin Carl and Lilly Elizabeth Johanson Sten.
Mrs. Barnhart was a member of First Lutheran Church of Washington.
She had been employed for 23 years as a payroll supervisor by Jessop Steel Corp., retiring in 1982.
Mrs. Barnhart was a 1936 graduate of Trinity High School.
She was a member of the Auxiliary of American Legion Post 175, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 122, Arms Club and Vasa Lodge No. 308.
Mrs. Barnhart enjoyed traveling.
She was married to Marshall Barnhart, who died April 24, 1988.
Surviving are a stepson, Michael Barnhart of Washington; two stepdaughters, Marsha King of Rochester, N.Y., and Virginia Barton of Washington; two brothers, Carl A. Sten and Leroy Sten, both of Washington; six nephews; and two nieces.
John H. Blair
Owned and operated John's Corner Grocery
John H. Blair, 83, of Carmichaels, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Brownsville General Hospital.
He was born April 8, 1918, in Wind Ridge, a son of John L. and Marie Antoinette Lollar Blair.
Mr. Blair was a 1938 graduate of Waynesburg High School, where he was senior class president. He then went on to graduate from the agricultural department of Penn State University in 1940.
After graduation, he returned to Wind Ridge to help run the family farm.
Mr. Blair also owned and operated John's Corner Grocery on South Washington Street, Waynesburg, and later owned Blair Construction in Carmichaels.
He had lived in Carmichaels for the past 32 years.
Mr. Blair was a member of Masonic Lodge 153 F&AM in Waynesburg, where he was a 32nd degree mason; a member of Uniontown Lodge of Perfection; Scottish Rite Valley of Pittsburgh; and First Christian Church in Waynesburg.
On June 18, 1939, he married Hilda Lucille Gross Blair, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, John L. Blair II of Waynesburg and Larry H. Blair of Wind Ridge; a daughter, Carol Blair Spragg of Dover, Del.; two brothers, Charles B. Blair of Waynesburg and Dwight Blair of Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Elizabeth Booth of Waynesburg and Alfretta Lemley of Zephyrhills, Fla.; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Deceased are four brothers, Brian, Weeden F., Scott and Lloyd Blair; and a sister, Martha Smith.
James Kosarik
Lifelong resident of Avella
James "Bob" Kosarik, 72, of Avella, died at 8:50 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2001, in Washington Hospital.
He was born September 6, 1928, in Avella, a son of Martin and Louise Bosseau Kosarik.
Mr. Kosarik lived all of his life in Avella, where he was a member of Bert C. Siders American Legion Post 643 and Avella Volunteer Fire Department.
He worked as a mechanic, retiring from the state Department of Transportation in 1988.
Mr. Kosarik served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army.
Surviving are a daughter, Karen Nolan of Avella; two grandchildren, Zachary and Felicia Nolan; and a sister, Shirley Hildreth of Wellsburg, W.Va.
Deceased, in addition to his parents, are two brothers, John T. and Martin Kosarik; and a sister, Geraldine Bardella.

Fae Carson, 72, of Baird Avenue, Washington, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in Kade Nursing Home, Washington.
She was born August 21, 1928, in Claysville, a daughter of Archie J. and Nellie Jane Deyll Carson.
She was Protestant, and a homemaker who had cared for her parents.
Surviving are a sister, Betty Ahrns of Prosperity; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are eight brothers and sisters, Roy Carson, Alice Fleming, Ruth Miller, Nell Eagon, Ethel Miller, Geralding Harsha, Arch Carson and Jack Carson.
William M. Moore
Coal miner, farmer
William Morgan Moore, 76, of Bavington, died Saturday, June 16, 2001, in his home, following a lengthy illness.
He was born March 3, 1925, on the family homestead, a son of James Fred Moore and Celestine DeCook Moore.
Mr. Moore had lived on the family homestead his entire life.
He was a member of United Mine Workers union, working with Davis Coal Co. and Bologna Coal Co. for 27 years. He also raised beef cattle and pigs.
Mr. Moore never married.
Surviving are three brothers, James F. Moore of Baldwin, Richard L. and Terrance R. Moore, both of Bavington; two sisters, Maxine M. Bickel of Mt. Lebanon and Martha M. Masquelier of McDonald; and four nieces and eight nephews.
Rose V. Churray
Life member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church
Rose V. Churray, 95, of Canonsburg, died at 7:35 p.m. Friday, June 15, 2001, in Tandem Village, North Strabane Township.
She was born April 9, 1906, in Canonsburg, a daughter of Carman and Pauline Novak Fartro.
Mrs. Churray was a life member of St. Patrick Roman Catholic Church in Canonsburg, where she served as a lecturer; and a charter member of Catholic Daughters Court Canonsburg 1211, where she served as grand regent and district deputy. She also was a Democratic committeewoman and judge of elections in Canonsburg's 2nd Ward.
She served in civil defense during World War II.
Mrs. Churray was a homemaker.
She was supervisor of Continental Can Co. in Canonsburg and a driver for Intermediate Unit 1 in Washington County.
Mrs. Churray was given a chairman's special award by Washington County Democratic Committee in October 1996 and honored in May 2000 for her community service by the Italian-American Society of Washington County.
She was a member of ladies auxiliary of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 191 of Canonsburg and Slovenian Zarja Lodge.
On September 17, 1928, she married Steve Churray, who died April 17, 1975.
Surviving are four daughters, Dolly Setto, Mary Ann Scarci and Carolyn Graff, all of Canonsburg, and Rose T. Churray of Virginia Beach, Va.; four sisters, Mary Kolarosky of Canonsburg, Ann Niemiec of Mt. Lebanon, Lucy Cannon of Canonsburg and Betty Fartro of Mt. Lebanon; two brothers, John Fartro of Canonsburg and Tom Fartro of Houston; 18 grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Deceased are four brothers, Rocco, Joseph, Anthony and Benjamin Fartro; and three sisters, Pauline Churchel, Teresa and Nancy Fartro.
