JOHN H. DELL AMICO
John H. Dell Amico, Dunmore, died September 22 in Moses Taylor Hospital
after an illness. He and his wife, the former Stella Stivala, would have
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on Oct. 26.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Alessandro and Serafina Lorenzini
Dell Amico, he was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore.
He was also a member and past president of its Holy Name Society. He was
a graduate of Dunmore High School, and of St. Thomas College, class of
1932. Prior to retirement in 1984, he was the executive director of the
American Red Cross, Scranton chapter, a post he had held since 1963. Prior
to his American Red Cross affiliation, which spanned 41 years, he was employed
by the Department of Public Assistance, Scranton office. He was the past
president of the Columbus Association, and was a volunteer for many church
and civic functions.
Also surviving are a daughter, Joan Cianci, Dunmore; two sons, Jack,
Mount Cobb, and Richard, Boynton Beach, Fla.; a sister, Laura Trudnowski,
Scranton; five grandchildren; a great-grandchild; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Henry and Leo; and a sister,
Florence Kurnas.

ALICE E. PICKRELL
Alice E. Pickrell, Chestertown, Md., formerly of Moscow, died September
25 at home. She was the widow of Samuel G. Pickrell, who died in 1992.
Born in Spring Brook Township, daughter of the late Ernest and Nettie Ransom
Benjamin, she had resided in Maryland for the past 10 years.
Surviving are two daughters, Charlotte A. Shrom, Chestertown, and Bette
Jean Patton, Clearfield; a son, Samuel A., Tolchester, Md.; a sister, Elizabeth
Parker, Waynesboro; a brother, Carl Benjamin; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren;
nieces and nephews.

JAMES D. YOCUM
James D. Yocum, a resident of Elmhurst Township, died September 25
in the Hospice Unit of Mercy Hospital after an illness. His wife is the
former Jacqueline Nicholes. The couple just celebrated their 36th wedding
anniversary August 22.
Born in Rahway, N.J., son of Reba Yeager Yocum, Scranton, and the late
Donald Yocum, he attended Trinity United Church of Christ, Scranton. He
was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School, and he worked as a journeyman
bookbinder for the former Haddon and Craftsmen for over 33 years.
A kind and caring person, he was a loving husband, father and son,
who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Two of his favorite friends
were his pets, Shadow and Spike. He was an avid sports fan, who especially
enjoyed watching Nascar, the Phillies, the Steelers, and most of all, Penn
State. He had a sense of humor about all things, and kept that sense about
him through his courageous battle with cancer over the past seven years.
Also surviving are two daughters, Linda Yocum, at home; Christine Brennan,
State College; a son, Donald, at home; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.

DANIEL R. DIRIENZO SR.
Daniel R. Dirienzo Sr., Carbondale, formerly of Scranton, died September
25 in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center. His wife
is the former Grace M. Contessa Dirienzo.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Stephen and Dorothy Salvati Dirienzo,
he was a member of St. Ann's Basilica and was a graduate of St. Ann's Monastery
School in 1947. He was an active volunteer at the Marian Community Hospital.
He was a professional dance instructor for the Arthur Murray Dance Studio
and Fred Astaire. He owned and operated the Daniel Dirienzo Florist Shop,
Carbondale, and taught floral design.
Also surviving are a son, Daniel R. Jr., Waterford, Mich.; a daughter,
Suzanne M. Schreckengaust, Moscow; two brothers, Felix and Frank, both
of Scranton; three sisters, Rose Perna, Endwell, N.Y.; Margaret DeSanto,
Scranton; and Dorothy Sherman, Binghamton, N.Y.; four grandchildren, nieces
and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold; and two sisters, Ann
Colianni and Connie Wesnak.

ROBERT J. O HARA
Robert J. O Hara, The Hideout, died September 26 at Mercy Hospital.
His widow is Patricia Cocciolone O Hara. His first wife, Lorraine Smith
O Hara, died in 1995.
Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., son of the late Robert and Mary Simpson O Hara,
he was a retired New York City fireman, serving the Bedford-Stuyvesant
area on hook and ladder 111. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving
as a naval gunner on merchant ships and the USS Lake Champlain. He moved
to the Hideout in 1987. He had been active in St. Thomas More Church, and
the Knights of Columbus for over 30 years.
He was an avid golfer and bowler, and loved all sports. He touched
the hearts of many people, and was a kind, loving, warm person.
Also surviving are two brothers, James, Richardson, Texas, and William,
Merrick, N.Y.; nieces and nephews.

AGNES M. SHANDER
Agnes M. Shander, funeral director, 83, Peckville, died September 23
at Preferred Choice Hospice at Mid-Valley Hospital after a lengthy illness.
She was the widow of Frank J. Shander, who died in 1985.
Born in Peckville, daughter of the late Stanley F. and Victoria H.
Matyjewicz Shander, she was a funeral director in Peckville for the past
62 years. She attended Blakely schools, and graduated in 1935. She continued
on to Eckles College to become a licensed funeral director, and graduated
in 1938. She assisted her father until his death, then took over the family
business.
She took great pride in her profession, and did all she could to help
the families she assisted in their time of need. She was a member of the
Pennsylvania and Lackawanna Funeral Directors Association, and a member
of St. Michael the Archangel Church, Olyphant.
She was a very special woman with a heart of gold. She was always willing
to give what she had to those who needed it. She was a woman of many words
who spoke her piece. She was loved dearly by her daughter and daughter s
family who resided with her and cared for her. She had a great love of
animals.
Surviving are four daughters, Sandy Nelson, Osceola Mills, Sherri Ross,
Denver, Colo., Pam Kosydar, Dickson City, and Michelle Yuhas at home, her
primary caregiver; a brother, Dr. Ernest G. Shander, Lake Ariel; two sisters,
Madelyn Ksiazek, Olyphant; and Charlotte Yushinsky, Eynon; 11 grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; an aunt, nieces and nephews.

LORRAINE VALENCHES O MALLEY
Lorraine O Malley, Scranton, formerly of Minooka, died September 22
in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit at Community Medical Center after a long
illness. She leaves her husband and best friend, Joseph J. O Malley, after
42 years of marriage.
Born in Shenandoah, daughter of the late Carl and Constance Sovinsky
Valenches, she was a member of the Church of St. Joseph and a graduate
of Scranton Technical High School, Class of 1953.
Before retirement, she was employed at the Steamtown National Historic
Site.
She was known as Rainie to her many friends.
She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and those who received
her love, friendship and devotion she gave throughout her lifetime.
Also surviving are two daughters, Meriann O Malley, Thornhurst; and
Helen Skibinski, Scranton; two sons, Joseph Jr., Scranton; and Thomas,
Jacksonville, Fla.; two sisters, Carol Plante, New Jersey; and Constance
Gance, Scranton; six grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her stepmother, Elsie Palmer Valenches;
and a brother, Carl Valenches Jr.

JOSEPH H. EVERETT JR.
Joseph H. Everett Jr., 58, Gouldsboro, died September 28 in the Mercy
Hospice after a courageous battle with cancer. His widow is the former
Joanne Kovich. The couple would have celebrated their 33rd wedding anniversary
in November.
Born in Scranton, son of the late Joseph H. and Alice Hay Everett,
he was a graduate of Greene-Dreher High School, Newfoundland. He was employed,
before retirement in 1996, as an electronics technician at the Tobyhanna
Army Depot. He was an Army veteran, having served in the Old Guard, based
out of Fort Myer, Arlington, Va. He was a member of the American Legion
Post 247, Gouldsboro, and the Boy Scout Troop 130, Gouldsboro.
Also surviving are a daughter, Lynn, at home; a son, Paul, at home;
an aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews.

THOMAS MICHAEL FERGUSON
Thomas Michael Ferguson, 71, Clarks Summit, died September 28 at home
after an illness. He was the husband of Lois Hughes Ferguson. They have
been married over 48 years.
Born June 9, 1929, in Scranton, son of the late John and Eleanor Dougher
Ferguson, he had lived in Clarks Summit since 1990, moving from the Petersburg
section of Scranton. He was a graduate of St. Paul's High School. Before
retirement, he was employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania in the
Scranton office of the Workman's Compensation Fund. He was formerly a sales
representative for years, employed by area businesses.
He was a warm-hearted person who always put others ahead of himself.
He always had a kind word to say, and was always there for anyone in need.
He was very dedicated to his family, who loved and respected him greatly.
He will be missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Also surviving are three sons, Thomas Jr., Scranton; Joseph, Elizabeth
City, N.C.; and Frank, Mount Cobb; two daughters, Linda Shorten, Lords
Valley; and Kathleen Hadsell, Simpson; four brothers, John, Walter, William

ALICE MORGAN HOWELLS
Alice Morgan Howells, 86, formerly of North Main Avenue and Park Gardens
Apartments, Scranton, died September 27 in the VNA Hospice Inpatient Unit
at Community Medical Center. She was the widow of William J. Howells Jr.,
who died in November 1989.
Born Feb. 26, 1914, in Scranton, daughter of the late Thomas and Louise
Harris Morgan, she was a member of Concord United Church of Christ. She
was a former volunteer for the Red Cross blood program and a former Sunday
school teacher at Bethania Presbyterian Church. She was a 1932 graduate
of Scranton Technical High School and a former member of the Eastern Star.
She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister who will be dearly
missed.
Surviving are a daughter, Pearl Taylor, Scranton; two sons, William
J. III, Corning N.Y.; and Robert J., Daleville; a sister, Louise Lynch,
Scranton; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Pearl Morgan and Janet Adsit;

Shenko Goreschak, she was a graduate of Throop High School, class of 1951,
and was a resident of Throop all her life. She was retired from the former
Grove Silk Mill, Dunmore, and was a member of St. John the Baptist Church,

Thomas R. "Tucker" White, Big Bass Lake, Gouldsboro, died September
16 in the Mercy Hospital. His widow is the former Josephine "Tootsie" Ostroski.
Born in Scranton, son of Eleanor Beaver White, Madison Township, and the
late Thomas J. White, who died in 1996, he was a graduate of North Pocono
High School. He was employed as a plant supervisor for R.G.A., Reproductions,
Saddle Brook, N.J. He was a member of Maple Lake United Methodist Church.
Prior to moving to Big Bass Lake, he was a resident of Madisonville for

Jerome R. Murphy, North Scranton, died September 14 after a lengthy
illness. He and his wife, the former Anne Marie Moran, celebrated their
23rd wedding anniversary on Aug. 5. Born in Scranton, son of the late Michael
C. and Ellen Corcoran Murphy, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High
School, class of 1949. Prior to retirement, he was employed by Conrail
and the New Jersey Transit System for 34 years. He was a member of Holy
Rosary Church, North Scranton, and its Men's Society, Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 5209 and the Tauras Club. Also surviving are three daughters,
Barbara McLean and Joan Schott, both of Scranton; and Patricia Rosengrant,

MOLLIE MURTHA FLANAGAN
Mollie Murtha Flanagan, 68, Scranton, died September 16 at Mercy Hospital.
Her husband is retired Army Lt. Col. John Flanagan. Born and raised in
Pittston, Port Griffith area, daughter of the late Michael and Nora Kane
Murtha, she was a graduate of St. John's High School, class of 1950, and
of St. John's Business College in 1951. During her life, she traveled with
her husband and children throughout the world while her husband was on
active military duty. She was an active member of St. Ignatius Parish,
Fort Leavenworth, Kan., for five years, and the Fort Leavenworth community.
She served as secretary of the Officers Wives Club at several military
stations, and was an active member of the Iran-American Society, Teheran,
Iran, from 1963 to 1965, and of the Thailand-American Society, Bankok,
1972. She received numerous community service awards for her volunteer
work at various military posts in the United States and overseas. Mrs.
Flanagan chose the role of a traditional wife and mother, raising four
children. She attended many professional seminars and conferences, and
authored two articles on family life in the military, and cooking recipes.
She was active in the University of Scranton's 1888 Club, the Legion of
Mary, and the Immaculate Conception of Mary Church. She also belonged to
the Seton ( St. John s) High School Alumni Association, Pittston. In her
life, she exemplified the virtues of a true heroine dedicated to God, her
family and her country. She was a truly gentle woman, living every day
with trust in God and the Blessed Mother. Also surviving are a son, Col.

Nora Fisher, National Defense University, Fort McNair, Va.; Kathleen Host,

Kevin Finnegan, 43, Long Pond, died September 12 at home. Born in Yonkers,

as a commercial truck driver. He was helpful to all around him, and within
his limited means, he donated to various charities. He was preceded in

Ruth Ellen Jones, a resident of East Mountain Manor Nursing Home, Wilkes-Barre,
and HC1 Box 173, Thornhurst, died September 13 in the Geisinger Wyoming
Valley Medical Center, Wilkes-Barre. She was the widow of Gwillum Dale
Jones, who died in 1971. Born in Scranton, in 1914, daughter of the late
Arthur and Bertha Boose Dietz, she was a member of the Thornhurst United
Methodist Church. Prior to retirement, she was a seamstress with Rita s

ROSELLA LAVICK
Rosella Lavick, 67, Crystal Lake, died September 17 at the in-patient
hospice unit of Mercy Hospital after a valiant battle with cancer. She
was the widow of William Lavick, who died in 1993. Born in New York City,
daughter of Catherine Hennessey, New York City, and the late Thomas Hennessey,
she moved to Northeastern Pennsylvania in 1970 and operated Hennessey s
Restaurant, Scranton, with her husband for 20 years. Her greatest gift
was her sense of humor and devotion to her family and pets. Her greatest
joy was spending time with her two grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter,

LEROY W. BARTLESON
Leroy W. Bartleson, 85, South Sterling, died September 17 at home.
His widow is the former Doris Cross. Born in South Sterling, son of the
late W. Scott and Emma Louise Krumm Bartleson, he was a graduate of the
Green Dreher Vocational High School, Newfoundland, class of 1933. He worked
at Savage Arms Co., Utica, N.Y., during World War II and was also a lumberman
and carpenter. He retired in February of 1977 from the Department of Property
and Supplies, Harrisburg. He was a member of the Hemlock Grove United Methodist
Church, and a 50-year member of the Salem Lodge 330, Free and Accepted
Masons, Hamlin. He pitched horseshoes all his life and was a member of
the Newfoundland Horseshoe League. He was an honorary member of the Pennsylvania
Trappers Association and the National Trappers Association and a member
of the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman.

Arlene Burton, 68, a guest of the Taylor Nursing and Rehabilitation
Center, formerly of 419 Olive St., died September 17 at the center. She
was the widow of Arnold Burton, who died in 1971. Born April 17, 1932,

settled at the center in February of this year. She was educated in Moosic
schools and was employed as a waitress by Saul's Restaurant, Scranton,
before retirement. She was a member of the Women's Club of Washington Plaza
and was a former Democratic delegate. She was a member of the Moosic Alliance
Church, Moosic. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
whose true love was her family. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Surviving are three sons, Kenneth, Scranton; Gary, Lake Ariel, and Arnold,
Taylor; four daughters, Barbara Bennett and Elizabeth Genitsky, Both of
Scranton; Debra Gealy, Old Forge; and Lisa Jones, Taylor; three brothers,
Richard, Thomas and Charles, all of Scranton; five sisters, Martha Bloom,
Flora Shilkosky, Ellen Bloom and Andrea Jackson, all of Scranton; and Ruth
Ann Lewis, Moosic; 17 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces
and nephews. She was preceded in death by a son, Robert; and a brother,

CATHERINE McCORMICK McCRONE
Catherine McCormick McCrone, Dunmore, died September 18 in the VNA
Hospice Center at Community Medical Center after a brief illness. She was
the wife of John. J. McCrone. Her first husband, John McCormick, died Feb.
28, 1965. Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Michael F. and Sarah L.
Burke Conway, she was a member of St. Mary of Mount Carmel Church, Dunmore,
and its Women's Guild. She was a graduate of Dunmore High School and before
retirement, she was employed by the ARA Co. in the Dunmore School District.
Also surviving are four sons, John, Dunmore; Gerald, Dunmore; James, Scranton;
and Michael, Scranton; a stepson, Patrick McCrone, Bloomsburg; a daughter,
Regina Rinaldi, Dunmore; stepdaughter, Sharon McCrone, Fleetville; two
brothers, M. Gerald Conway, Gouldsboro; and Richard Conway, Dunmore; a
sister, Mary O Malley, Scranton; 13 grandchildren, two step-grandchildren;
and nieces and nephews, including William, Michael and Elizabeth Hahn,
whom she raided since 1983. She was also preceded in death by five brothers,
William, John, Albert, Patrick and Paul Conway; and two sisters, Elizabeth

Jeanne C. Gallagher, Clarks Summit, formerly of Lake Ariel, died September
18 in Mercy Hospice. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late John F. and
Kathryn Ruddy Carroll, she was a member of St. Gregory's Church, Clarks
Summit, a graduate of Holy Rosary School, and attended Marywood College.
Before retirement she was employed by Harper and Collins. She was a caring
mother, grandmother and sister. Her greatest joy in life was being with
her grandchildren. Surviving are a son, Peter J., Dunmore; two daughters,
Kathryn Maure, Clarks Summit, and Susan C. Nemetz, Lake Ariel; a sister,
Anne Murphy, Charlotte, Va.; three grandchildren; nieces and nephews, grandnieces,
grandnephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by a sister, Kathryn
Carroll. The funeral and interment was at the convenience of the family.

Fredrick Matern, 42, Newfoundland, died September 19 in Wayne Memorial
Hospital, Honesdale. Born in Colorado Springs, Colo., son of William and
Mickey DeFeis Matern, Newfoundland, he had resided in Newfoundland since
1992 and formerly lived in Somerset, N.J. He owned and operated Pink Panther
Landscape Service, Newfoundland. Surviving are a daughter, Samantha Matern,
Blue Springs, Tenn.; three brothers, Scott, Carbondale; Edward, Lake Ariel;
and Daniel, Cresco; four sisters, Susan Matern, Ottsville; Carol Ann Wiseman,
Lake Ariel; Jean Krull, Michigan; and Lorraine Matern, South Canaan; nieces
and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, William III and

BERNARD E. VENTURA
Bernard E. "Bernie" Ventura, West Scranton, died September 8 at home
after a lengthy illness. His wife is the former Grace Savino. The couple
celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary Jan. 31. Born in Peckville, son
of the late Bernard and Rose Long Ventura, he eventually moved to Scranton,
where he was educated. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving
with the infantry in the Philippines. He was employed as a foreman by Ferranti
Brothers Beer Distributors until his retirement. He was a member of St.
Patrick's Church. He was a hardworking man who was his wife's best friend,
and loved his family and friends. Also surviving are a son, the Rev. Bernard
L. Ventura, Hamlin; two sisters, Mary Ventura, Scranton, and Sylvia Pollard,
Webster, N.Y.; three brothers, Julie and Albert, both of Scranton, and
Peter, Sharon, Vt.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; nieces,
nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and

SYLVESTER URSO
Sylvester Urso, 39, of 136 Harriet St., Throop, died September 10.
Born in Scranton, son of Bernetta Pagnozzi Urso, Throop, and the late Louis
A. Urso, who died in 1994, he was a graduate of Mid-Valley High School
and attended Lackawanna Junior College. He was a good athlete, having played
all sports in high school and college. He was a coach in the Midget Football
League Olyphant Lions Program and Little League Baseball, Dickson City.
He was employed by Bahco Tools Inc. and was a former member of St. Bridget s
Church, Throop. Also surviving are his twin children, Erica and Patrick,
both of Dickson City; two sisters, Alfonsia Lambert, Kingsley; and Theresa
Kellogg, Moscow; two brothers, Cataldo, Olyphant; and Louis Jr., Dickson
City; nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. The funeral was from

GENEVIEVE T. KRUKOWSKI
Genevieve T. Krukowski, Scranton, died September 8 at the Hospice Unit
of Mercy Hospital after an illness. Her husband is John J. Krukowski. The
couple was married 50 years. Born in Scranton, daughter of the late Walter
and Helen Krukowski Zimorowicz, she was a graduate of West Scranton High
School. Since her retirement in 1947, she was a seamstress at the Sauquoit
Silk Mills. She was a member of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Greenwood.
She was loving wife, mother and grandmother, who will be missed by her
many friends. Also surviving are two sons, John, Mount Cobb, and Edward,
Scranton; a daughter, Barbara Marx, Bradford; two sisters, Mary Raumovitz,
Florida, and Helen Kovatch, Taylor; two brothers, Zygmont, Scranton, and

and nephews. She was preceded in death by a brother, Frank, and two sisters

DOROTHY M. HUBBS
Dorothy M. Hubbs, 80, Lake Ariel, died September 9 at St. Peter's University
Hospital, New Brunswick, N.J. She was the wife of Frederick J. Hubbs. They
were married 54 years. Born in Belleville, N.J., daughter of the late James
and Mary Baldwin, she lived in Sayreville, N.J., for 30 years before moving
to the Hideout in Lake Ariel in 1991. Also surviving are a son, Tom, Barnegat,
N.J.; a daughter, Nancy Sowder, Sayreville; four grandsons, a great-granddaughter;
two brothers, Rich Baldwin, Sparta, N.J.; a sister, Lillian DiNicola, Moorehaven,
Fla.; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jack

JENNIE A. TELLIE
Jennie A. Tellie, a guest of St. Mary's Villa, Elmhurst, formerly of
Dunmore, died September 8 at the villa after an illness. She was the widow
of Michael J.Tellie, who died Aug. 29, 1992. Born in Dunmore, daughter
of the late Nicholas and Raphael Scartelli, she was a member of the Immaculate
Conception Church. She was educated in Dunmore public schools, and was
employed in the local garment industry prior to retirement. She was a member
of the Senior Citizens Group at the Immaculate Conception Church. She
was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who was devoted
to her family. She will be sadly missed by her loved ones and family. Surviving
are two sons, Anthony M. and attorney Nicholas D., both of Scranton; two
daughters, Doris Klobusicky, Dunmore, and Geraldine Naro, Moscow; 15 grandchildren;
21 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by
two brothers, Daniel and Ralph, and three sisters, Mary DeStefano, Lucille

Arlene F. Pace, R.N., a resident of the Moscow area, died September
8. She was the widow of Mario J. Pace Sr., who died in 1982. Born in Elizabeth,
N.J., daughter of the late Frank B. and Sadie Smith, she graduated from
Battin High School and the Elizabeth General Medical Center School of Nursing.
She worked in several areas of nursing for 40 years. Her last employment
was for the IHS Julia Ribaudo Nursing Care Center, Lake Ariel. She was
of the Protestant faith. Surviving are a daughter, Jolene Sledzinski, Moscow;
a son, Mario J. Jr., Green Bay Wis.; a sister, Dorothy McGrath, Austin,
Texas; five grandchildren. Cremation was at Maple Hill Salem Crematory,

LEWIS R. GARRISON SR.
Lewis R. "Big Lou" Garrison Sr., 64, of Box 2594 RR 2, Nicholson, Springville
Township, died September 9 at home as a result of a tractor accident. His
widow is the former Katherine Green. They would have celebrated their 47th
wedding anniversary on Oct. 13. Born in Springville, son of the late Bela
and Louise Mack Garrison, he was employed as a heavy equipment operator
for 42 years for the Dalling Construction Co., Bridgeport, Conn., before
retirement. He attended the west Nicholson United Methodist Church, and
was a member of the Lake Carey Sportsman's Club, the International Operating
Engineers Union Local 478. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved
his work and was willing to help anyone who needed it. Also surviving are
five sons, Bela and Michael, both of Bridgeport, Conn.; Lewis Jr., Monroe,
Conn.; William, Oxford, Conn.; and Dave, Springville; three daughters,
Ruby Ganser, Factoryville; Pamela Sebjan, Nicholson; and Diana Garrison,

three sisters, Ruby Johnson, Springville; Doris Ward, West Nicholson; and

JOSEPHINE S. INCAVIDO
Josephine S. Incavido, Scranton, died September 9 in the Mercy Hospice
after an illness. She was the widow of Salvatore Incavido, who died in
1960. Born in Throop, daughter of the late Joseph and Stella Sholcosky,
she was a member of St. Anthony of Padua Church, Smith Street, Dunmore.
Her life was a true inspiration to all who knew her and admired her strength.
She was a wonderful and loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother
who enjoyed her trips to town and sitting on her porch with a good book.
She will be missed by all who loved her. Surviving are a son, Frank P.
"Chick", Moscow; a daughter, Theresa Kortawy, Scranton; seven grandchildren;
a sister, Victoria Galiney, Rochester, N.Y.; nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by three brothers, Chester, Joseph and Frank; and three

WARREN C. DAVIS
Warren C. Davis, West Scranton, died September 11 at home after a lengthy
illness. His widow is the former Gladys Kessler. They had been married
55 years. Born in Scranton, son of the late Wendell and Mildred Beldin
Davis, he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and attended
the Penn State Extension School and Lackawanna Junior College. He owned
and managed the former W. C. Davis Sons grocery store, West Scranton, for
22 years. From 1968 to 1971, he was the regional representative for the
Pennsylvania Department of Commerce. From 1971 to 1982, he served in various
capacities in the City of Scranton CETA program including director of management
and operations and director of planning and programs. He retired as manager
of fleet maintenance for Clinical Lab. He was a former member, deacon and
trustee of the former First Baptist Church of Scranton, where he was also
financial secretary and Sunday School superintendent. He was a member of
the St. David's Society of Lackawanna County and the Welsh American Society.
He had been a member of the former Hyde Park Church Bowling League. He
was an Army veteran of World War II serving in Sicily, Italy and France.
He loved gardening and tending to his flowers. Also surviving are a son,
William, Moscow; two daughters, Susan Clark, Lake Sheridan, and Elizabeth
Clark, Southhold, N.Y.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter. The funeral was from the Davies

Earl O. Cassel, pastor, United Baptist Church of Scranton. Interment, Washburn

FRANK J. BABARSKY
Frank J. Babarsky, Scranton, died September 11 at Allied Services Skilled
Nursing Facility after an illness. His widow is the former Irene Pifcho.
They would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary Nov. 23. Born
in Scranton, son of the late Fred and Mary Woziniak Babarsky, he resided
in the Scranton area most of his life. He was a graduate of Fairview High
School, Mountaintop. He retired as a foreman of Laminations Inc. in 1979,
and then retired in 1986 as a foreman of Gress Farms. He was an Army veteran
of World War II, where he was involved in the War Dog Training Program
at Camp Pendelton, where he worked with noted animal trainer Rudd Weatherwax.
He was a member of St. Joseph's Lithuanian Roman Catholic Church. Also
surviving are a son, Frank J. Jr., Scranton; a daughter, Susanne, Scranton;
four sisters, Isabelle Balliet, Monatuk, N.J.; Mary Guzior, Scranton; Helen
Golembski, Elmhurst; and Annabelle Malcolm, Levittown; six grandchildren;
a great-grandson; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers,
George and Fred, and a sister, Josephine Prosniak. The funeral was private
