Wilbert and Mabel Alter Mack. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by husband, Eugene C. Irwin, in 1977, son Joseph; great granddaughter, Millia Beeson; and sisters, Mildred Bennett, Erma Mack and Adda Anderson. Survived by son, James L. (Bernadine) Irwin, Barberton, Ohio; daughter, Marlene; brother, Warren Mack, Johnstown; five grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Sandy Lee Hoffman Member of Robinson UM Church, retired employee of FMC, Homer City
Sandy Lee Hoffman, 61, of Robinson, died Sunday, July 10, 2005 at Memorial Medical Center. Born Jan. 6, 1944 in Robinson, West Wheatfield Twp. she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Betty Pauline Shetler Lichenfels. She was a member of Robinson Evangelical Methodist Church and a retired employee of FMC, Homer City. She is survived by her brothers Tommy and his wife Judy (Bernabo), Robinson and Rex and his wife Patricia (Kabasta), New Florence; Also her sisters; Sue Ann Malnosfky and husband Michael, Robinson, Terry Brown and husband Ronald, Hummelstown and Rita Oravic and husband Michael, Harrisburg; Also several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. A service was held in Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence with pastors Scott Hamley and Rex Lichtenfels officiating. Interment was in Germany Lutheran Cemetery.

J. Robert Hite
Former Bethlehem Steel supervisor, St. Clair Twp. supervisor for 6 yrs. J. Robert Hite, 77, of Seward, died Monday June 9, 1997 at home. Mr. Hite a Bethlehem Steel supervisor for 38 years, was born May 29, 1920 in Bedford County, son of Virgil and Myrtle Rausch Hite. He was a member of Seward United Methodist Church and served six years as a St. Clair Twp. supervisor. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Kathryn Adams Hite; his daughter Lynette, Frederick, Md., two grandsons; three great grandchildren; Also surviving is his sister Arla Wezsnick, Johnstown; his sister-in-law Twyla Smith, Seward; many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Services were held Thursday at Meese Funeral Home, Seward, Rev. David Bowman officiating. Interment was in Grandview Cemetery, Johnstown.

Mrs. Nancy (Snodgrass) Hammond widow of the late Thomas Hammond died at her home in this place, Saturday morning, aged 74 years, 11 months and 21 days. Funeral service was held at the home Monday afternoon at 4 o'clock, conducted by Rev. H. S. McClintock, who was formerly pastor of the Christian Church, West Bolivar, of which she was a member, assisted by Rev. Dr. Thompson. Interment was made in Westview Cemetery. She is survived by five sons, Joseph, of Reynoldsville, and Dr. C. C., of Wishaw, Jefferson county; Frank, Isaac, and Garfield of Bolivar. Her sons and her nephew, John Snodgrass, of Munhall, acted as pall bearers.

Lois B. Hofecker
Lois B. Hofecker, 82, of Bolivar RD 1, died Friday Dec. 24, 1999, in the Edgewood Nursing Center, Youngstown, Pa. She was born July 15, 1917 in Fairfield Twp., a daughter of the late Ernest C. and Ruthe McCoy McBurney. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband G. Ralph Hofecker, in 1994; and a brother, Dwight McBurney. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Dorothy) Shurie of Latrobe; two sons, Ronald R. (and wife, Ruth Ann) Hofecker of Ligonier RD 1 and William C. (and wife Linda) Hofecker of Bolivar RD 1; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Kaye Hall of New Florence RD 1. She was a member of the Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church and the Philanthropic Aid Society. Friends will be received Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the McCabe Funeral Home Inc., 244 W. Main St., Ligonier. Funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church, Bolivar, with Pastor Jim Tomb officiating. Interment Fort Palmer Cemetery, Bolivar. Luker, William C., 81, Seward, formerly of 16 Ranson Avenue, Blairsville, died July 15, 1963, at Indian Haven Rest Home, Indiana. Born April 2, 1882, in Brush Valley, Son of the late George and Suzanna (Overdrof) Luker. Preceded in death by former wives, Kathryn Mamie Johns and Hazel Rager; also son, Floyd. Survived by these children Raymond, Okeene, Okla.; Mrs. Elda Naylor and Mrs. Erma Dunmire, both of Seward; also 29 grandchildren and 59 great grandchildren. McCurdy, Sarah B., 87, Bolivar RD 1, died Oct. 10, 2000, at UPMC Lee Regional . Born Feb., 25, 1913, in Fairfield Twp., daughter of late Frank and Ida Belle (Baird) McCurdy. Survived by daughter, Betty M. Black, Bolivar RD 1; grandchildren, Donna and William Horner and Diane Black and great granddaughters, Amy Horner and Cassandra Black. Preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Russell McCurdy, and Edna McCurdy. Prior to her retirement she had been employed by Idlewild Park, Ligonier, for over 20 years. Rose M. Rhoades, 38, of Derry, died Wednesday, Dec. 27, 2000 in Shadyside Hospital, Pittsburgh. She was born March 4, 1962, in Latrobe, a daughter of the late James L. and Edna (Flickinger) Rhoades. She was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ and the American Legion and VFW. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Dora, Cora and Margaret May Rhoades. Rose is survived by a son, Ryan James Rhoades and a daughter, Ashley Amber Velkey, both at home; brothers, Richard E. Rhoades, William M. Rhoades (and his wife, Doris), Donald L. Rhoades (and his wife, Beckey) all of Derry, James L. Rhoades Jr. of Cornelius, N.C., Thomas R. Rhoades of Salem, Ohio, and Robert J. Margareth Boring, 80, of New Florence RD 2, died Saturday, Feb. 13, 1999 at Emerson Square Personal Care Home, Indiana. Mrs. Boring was born Nov. 27, 1918 in Robinson. She was a member of Germany United Methodist Church, West Wheatfield Twp. and the Robinson VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Her hobby was embroidering quilt patches for the Laurel Senior Citizens. She was preceded in death by her parents James and Minnie Penrose Brett, along with her husband Orville A. in 1991, her son Wesley, her brothers James and Dale, her sister Bebe Antonacci and a son-in-law Robert Scarff. Survivors include her daughter Dolores I. Scarff a daughter-in-law, Gloria Boring, both of New Florence RD 2; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; Also surviving are five sisters and brothers, Betty Potts and Jean Fulcomer, both of Robinson, Harold of Greensburg, Jack of North Bend, Wash. and Audean Hall of New Florence RD 2; Also her sister-in-law, Pearl Brett of Robinson. Margaret (Dodson/Boring) Betz d. 7 October 1947, Johnstown
Margaret Boring Betz
Mrs. Margaret Boring Betz, of Fairfield Twp. died on Tuesday, October 7th at 1:50 a.m. at the Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Death was caused by thrombosis, following a five day illness. The deceased was born at Bolivar, February 27, 1913 a daughter of Edward Dodson and Ida Haire Dodson, both deceased. Both Mr. and Mrs Dodson died on the same night during the 1918 "flu" epidemic. After their death, Margaret and two brothers, Lewis and Harrison, were adopted by her Aunt Martha Boring and Robert Boring. Lewis died on October 15, 1946. Mrs. Betz resided in Fairfield Twp. for the past ten years, and lived the remainder of her life in the Bolivar district. She was a member of the West Bolivar Church of Christ. She also was a member of the Daughters of America and Camp No. 5, Auxiliary to the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War. Funeral services were held on Friday, October 10th at 2:30 p.m. in the West Bolivar Church of Christ, with the Rev. Donald C. Randall officiating. Interment was made in the Fort Palmer Cemetery, Fairfield Twp. She is survived by her husband Lawrence Betz; one daughter, Maxine, aged 11 years, and an infant son, David Wilson, aged five days, all of Fairfield Twp. She also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Boring, of 235 vine Street, Johnstown; four brothers, Harrison (Dodson) Boring, Pitcairn; James Boring, Apollo; Matthew Boring, Stoneboro, and Clark Boring of Harrisburg, and one sister Mrs. Galen Brendlinger, of West Wheatfield Twp.

Philson M. Bowers, 59, of Bolivar, died Saturday, Sept. 13, 1980, at his home. Mr. Bowers was born Aug. 18, 1921 in Robinson a son of the late William and Esther (Myers) Bowers. Mr Bowers is survived by his wife Gertrude (Betz) Bowers, and these Children: Barry of New Florence RD 2; Mrs. Phyllis Cramer of Rockwood RD 2; Mrs. Barbara Wagner of Oklahoma; Mrs. Becky Jopah of Oregon, and eight grandchildren. He was a brother of Mrs. Olive Manges of Hollsopple, Mrs. Jean Rallis of Ariz., Mrs. Tressa Miller of Indiana and Mrs. Laura Jean Garland of Robinson. Viola Amanda R. Bernabo
New Florence native survived by daughter, brothers, grandchildren
Viola Amanda Riffle Bernabo, 90, of State College, formerly of Bolivar and New Florence, the loving mother of Norma Riffle Hetrick, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2002 at Centre Crest Nursing Home, Bellefonte, following an extended illness. Born May 11, 1912 in New Florence, she was the daughter of the late Wesley and Olive Medsger Rummel. On April 29, 193 in New Florence, she married Forrest M. Riffle, who passed away in 1973. On Aug. 7, 1975, in Detroit, Mich. she married Louis V. Bernabo who passed away in 1998. She also was preceded in death by her daughter Elaine Smith; a brother, Ernest; sisters, Margaret Milligan and Mildred Mack. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Norma L. and William L. Hetrick, State College; brothers, Harold, Catonsville, Md. Clarence and Frank, both of Seward; Robert, Killen, Ala.; Also grandchildren Deborah Molin, Carmel, Calif.; Cheryl Gallagher, State College; Lucinda Buker, Alexandria, Va.; and Jamie Smith, Wesley Smith and Dana Smith; nine great grandchildren, including Lauren Amanda Molin and Jamie, Josh and Jessie Buker; numerous nieces , nephews and cousins. She was a loving wife, mother, family member and friend, always ready with a kind word and a helping hand. She was particularly skilled at arts and crafts, cooking and baking, and loved to make gifts and baked goods for family and friends. She always was willing to share her time, talent and possessions with others, no matter the personal limitations or sacrifices. Her loving and caring soul will be keenly missed by all who knew her, and particularly her loving family. DONALD LYNN BORING, 22, New Florence RD 2, died Saturday, Dec. 12. 1992. at Conemaugh Hospital, Johnstown. The son of Ronald A. and Norma Jean Black Boring, he was born Feb. 13, 1970, in Indiana. Mr. Boring was a 1988 graduate of United High School, Armagh. He was a Senior electrical engineering major at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnston, where he was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. He was to graduate next week. He was a part-time employee of Laurel Packaging. Surviving are his mother, Robinson; his father. New Florence RD 2; one sister and two brothers: Mrs. Mohan (Jody B.) Mary L. Burkley, 77, of Blairsville, died Sunday, March 16, 2003 at Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Dec. 10, 1925, in Bolivar, the daughter of William and Thelma Shirley McKinney. Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Sheaffer, Blairsville; Also her grandchildren: Brad and his wife Cheryl Johnson and Terra Sheaffer and her boyfriend, Jason Havash, all of Blairsville; Also surviving are her brothers and sisters George and girlfriend, Billie, Harold and wife Emily and Harry and wife, Beatrice, and Nancy and husband, Ed Silk all of New Florence, Paul and wife Shirley, Robinson, Clifford, Lockport, Betty Shaftic and Sondra Boring, Bolivar and Sally Gademsey, Blairsville. Dale Brett
Dale M. Brett, 69, Robinson, died Monday, April 25, 1994 at the Regional Hospice in Windber. Born Oct. 21, 1924 in Robinson he was the son of James H. and Minnie Penrose Brett. Prior to his retirement he was employed by the former Garfield Refractories and was most recently a custodian for the United School District. He was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Robinson. He was a veteran of World War II having served in the U.S. Army and he was a charter member of Robinson VFW Post 9310 and also was a member of the Bolivar American Legion Post 128. Surviving are his wife Mildred Pearl Altimus Brett; a daughter, Mrs. Thomas (Patricia) Shimko, Perry, Ohio, three sons, Dale M. Brett Jr. and wife Bonnie of Bolivar; Steven J. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James C. Brett. Friends will be received from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday and 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral home in Bolivar. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Zion Lutheran Church in Robinson. The Rev. Allyn K. Giuffre will officiate and interment will be in the Germany Lutheran Cemetery at New Florence. Memorials may be made to the Tri-County Ambulance Association of Bolivar or the Regional Hospice, Windber.

KERR Cleo E. "Petie", 73, Bolivar died Oct. 10, 1990, at Bethlen Home, Ligonier. Born Feb. 16, 1917 , in West Wheatfield Twp., daughter of late Albert and Irene (Bryan) Brett. Preceded in death by husband, Merle J. Kerr, in 1963, and an infant brother. Survived by sons, Lee. C. Kerr, Ligonier, and Robert M. Kerr, Bolivar RD 1; also six grandchildren and one great grandchild. Sister of Helen Lear, Bolivar. Prior to retirement was employed as nurses aid at Torrence State Hospital. Member of Bolivar United Methodist Church. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar, where service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, the Rev. R. Kenneth Keiper. Interment, Mount Tabor Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Tri-Community Ambulance, Bolivar.

Orpha J. Clark Kinzey
Member of Laurel Valley Sr. Citizens, First Church of Christ, Bible teacher
Orpha Jeannette Clark Kinzey, 79, of New Florence, died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1999 at home. Mrs. Kinzey was born Oct. 23, 1920, 1920 in Bolivar, daughter of the late Harmon and Nellie Wynn Crusan. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, West Bolivar, where she taught Bible school for many years. She also belonged to the Laural Valley Senior Citizens, where she helped by selling tickets, driving for others and so forth. Survivors include two children, Mrs. George (Jeannette) Stiffey, Sanford, Fla., and Jack, Haws River, N. C.; her daughter-in-law Mrs. Bob (Linda) Stull, Bolivar; Also surviving are four stepchildren Paul Kinzey, Virginia Beach, Va., Bill Kinzey and Kathy Kinzey, both of New Florence, and Mrs. Rich (Cindy) Gregorich, New Florence RD 1; eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren; Also four brothers and sisters, Earl, and Mrs. Dave (Ethel) Emerson, Armagh, Blair, Bolivar, Esther Arford, Robinson; her sister-in-law Betty Crusan, Duluth, Minn. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Dale Clark and her second husband, Paul Kinzey; her sons Charlie and Willard Clark; her brothers Jim, Willard, Johnny and Clarence; her sister Wilma. Services were held Saturday at the First Church of Christ, Rev. Gabriel Mraz officiating. Interment was in Fort Palmer Cemetery, Fairfield Twp. Memorial donations were suggested to the First Church of Christ, West Bolivar, or the Laurel Valley Senior Citizens.

James P. Kough
James P. Kough, 74, of Johnstown, formerly of Robinson, died Friday, Feb. 22, 1991 at home. He was the son of the late Thomas and Minnie (Evans) Kough. He was formerly employed as a heavy equipment operator for Conemaugh and Blacklick Railroad. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of VFW Post of Robinson and numerous other social and fraternal organizations. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Irene Howard and Edna Luther. He is survived by his wife, Ethel (Cooper) Kough; a daughter, Marlene (Mrs. Donald) Hochstein of Johnstown, a brother, Lester of Mingo Junction, Ohio; and two sisters, Leanna (Mrs. Fred) Penrose of Robinson, and Hazel (Mrs. Moses) Jaber of Johnstown. Funeral services were held Monday, at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar, with the Rev. Dale Rummel officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.

Robert H. Killen
Robert H. Killen, 84, of 19th Street, New Florence, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 1980, at Lee Hospital, Johnstown. Mr. Killen was born Feb. 12, 1895 in New Florence, a son of the late Frank and Anna (Ruffner) Killen. He was a member of New Florence United Methodist Church Ligonier Lodge 331 F & AM, veteran of World War II, and member and past commander of Hood-Vannatt Post 307 American Legion. He was retired from Gautier Div., Johnstown plant of Bethlehem Steel Corp. Mr. Killen is survived by his wife, Lillian M. (Kells) Killen, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Ann Craig of Hindman; two grandchildren, Mrs. Carol Kister of Friedens and Robert Craig of Jennerstown; and three great grandchildren. He was a brother of Mrs. Bess Campbell and Mrs. Mary Erickson, both of Johnstown. Funeral services were held Monday in the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, with the Rev. Harold H. Himes officiating. Burial was in Fairfield Cemetery.

Martha E. Shirey Jones
Three children, five grandchildren survive former West Bolivar resident.
Martha E. Shirey Jones, 63, Graham, N.C., formerly of West Bolivar, died July 30, 2001 Born Nov. 12, 1937 in Johnstown, daughter of the late Lawrence and Norma (McClelland) Shirey. She is survived by her children, Mrs. Michael (Sally) Shaffer, Harrisburg, Barry, Graham, and Raymond, Savannah, Ga.; five grandchildren; sisters Catherine Brendlinger, Burlington, N.C. and Dorothy Wagner, Johnstown and brother Lawrence Jr. Bolivar. Services were held Thursday at McCracken Funeral Chapel, Bolivar Rev. A. Dale Dudgeon officiating. Burial was in Fort Palmer Cemetery, Bolivar.
