Mrs. Alverta M. Hall, 70, of Stahlstown died Sunday evening, Nov. 24, 2002 in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Sept. 30, 1932, in Cook Twp. a daughter of the late James and Sarah (Saunders) Sleasman. Prior to her retirement, she had been employed at Hidden Valley Ski Resort and the Idlewild Park. She is survived by her husband of 52 years. Calvin James Hall; two daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Helen) Fetterman of Ligonier and Mrs. Harry (Patty) Jellison of Derry; three sons, Roger W. (and his wife, Judy) Hall of Stahlstown, John W. Hall Sr. of Bolivar RD 1 and Michael L. (And his wife, Carol Ann) Hall of Stahlstown; 14 grandchildren; 22 Great Grandchildren; four sisters, Emma Jean Tinkey and Sandy R. Sleasman, both of Stahlstown. Ford C. Henderson Jr. 64, of Hostetter died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born March 30, 1937 in Derry, he was a son of the late Ford Sr. and June (Hunter) Henderson. A member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Latrobe, he was retired from T& L Engineering, New Kensington, where he was a pipe line welder. He was a member of Army Reserve Company L, a lifetime member of Old Crabtree Sportsmen's Association and a member of Frontier Club, Latrobe, and the Kingston Veteran's and Sportsman's Association Club. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Viola Patrick, and a brother, Paul Edward Henderson. Surviving are his wife Mary Ann Snyder Henderson; three daughters, Kimberly Essary (and her husband, Michael) of Austin, Texas, Lisa Marie Lamosek (and her husband, Anthony) of Latrobe RD 6 and Amanda Leigh Gardner (and her husband, Michael) of Hostetter; three brothers, Barry Henderson (and his wife, Jenny) of Derry, Dennis Henderson (and his wife, Sachiko) of California and Ronald Henderson of Hostetter; five sisters, Ann Thompson (and her husband, Herbert) of Latrobe, June Torris (and her husband, Robert) of Garland, Texas, Janet Horrell (and her husband, Thomas), Joyce Pochet (and her husband, Richard) all of Ligonier and Debbie Lipinski of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Cory Essary, Emily Essary, Amber Lamosek and Tony Lamosek and numerous nieces and nephews. Ralph D. Black aged about 50 years died in the Veteran's Cryle Hospital, Cleveland, Ohio, Saturday afternoon. He was a veteran of World War I and a former Derry resident. In poor health for the past two years, he had been a hospital patient for the past two months. He had lived in Akron, Ohio, for the last several years. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Mae Black; and the following brothers and sister: Edward S., of Jeannette; Robert of Butler; Paul of Coraopolis; and Mrs. William Parrish of Derry, Funeral services will be in Akron, Ohio.

McMahon, William F., 50, Laughlintown died in McGinnis Hospital, Saturday 2 a.m. Funeral mass was held Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Ligonier. Son of Anna Syster Henderson, Derry and the late James Henderson. Member New Derry Methodist Church, La Monte Lodge 568, AM & FM, Tall Cedars of Lebanon of Derry, Derry VFW and the Veteran Employees Assn. of Westinghouse and the UER Local 612. Surviving wife, Jennie Bradley Henderson; Children, Wayne of Somerset, Mrs. Edward (Betty) Byers of Derry; four grandchildren; one brother, Duane, St. Petersburg, Fla. Clarence A. Henderson, 70, of Derry RD 2, died in Latrobe Area Hospital Sunday morning. He was born in Derry Twp. Jan. 9, 1907 a son of the late Elia B. Henderson and Elizabeth Myers Henderson. He was a member of the American Greek Beneficial Society. He was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Percha Henderson, Aug. 15, 1972. He is survived by three sons, Edward of Derry RD 2, Clarence L. of Port View, Pa. and Walter of Greensburg, four daughters Mrs. Stephen (Helen) Pavel of Trenton, Mich., Mrs. James (Elizabeth) McDowell of Derry RD 2, Mrs. Rose King of Trenton, Mich., and Mrs. William (Pauline) Harr of Riverview, Mich.; one brother H. Nobel Henderson of Lincoln Borough, and 15 grandchildren. The family will receive friends in the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home, Latrobe from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. daily. Violet Mae "Doll" (Mrs. Homer G.) Burkett, 60, of Bolivar RD 1 died Thursday Sept. 17, 1987 at Lee Hospital Johnstown. She was born May 8, 1927 in Fairfield Twp. a daughter of the late Bryan and Carrie (Hysong) Short. She was a member of the Church of Christ, Bolivar RD 1, and a Democratic committee member for Westmoreland County. She is survived by her husband, Homer G. Burkett; a daughter, Colleen Ray of Bolivar RD 1; two grandsons; three sisters, Clara Jane Bush of Bolivar, Helen Libengood of Blairsville, and Joann Foust of Bolivar RD 1; and three brothers; Joseph Short of Pleasant Unity; and Donald and Charles Short both of Bolivar RD 1. Funeral services were held Monday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral home, Bolivar with the Rev. Kenneth Neal officiating. Burial was in Fort Palmer Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Department of Lee Hospital.

He fell from a two story house while working (Falling in a sitting position) which resulted in becoming paralyzed from the waist down thus spending the rest of his life in a wheelchair.

(Short) McMahon 64 of 140 Mills St. Extension, Tarentum died Saturday (June 27, 1992) at 1:20 a.m. in Highland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Brackenridge where she was admitted May 13. She had been ill the past four years. Born April 30, 1928, in Bolivar she lived in Tarentum the past 43 years. She was a member of Frist Christian Church, Tarentum. Survivors include her husband of 43 years, Grant F. McMahon ; four sons, Patrick A. McMahon at home, William P. McMahon of Hastings, Donald R. McMahon of Centralia, MO. and Ronald K. McMahon of Elmora; four daughters, Mrs. James (Joanne) Prasko of Hastings, Mrs. Larry (Barbara J.) Lorensen of Mexico, MO., Mary Lou Pringle of Meadville, and Judy McMahon at home. 13 grandchildren; and two sisters, June Nixon of Robinson and Margaret Henderson of Bolivar. She was preceded in death by her parents, Philip A. and Hazel I. (Eales) Short; two brothers, Joseph T. and Harry W. Short and two sisters Rebecca S. Howard and Olive I. Short. Grant F. McMahon 75 of Mill Street Extension, Tarentum died at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday (March 3, 1999) in Haida Nursing Home, Elder Township. He had been ill the past five years. Born June 22, 1923 in Bolivar, he lived in Tarentum most of his life. Mr. McMahon was a World War II Army veteran. He was an employee of Tarentum Borough for 40 years before his retirement in 1985. Mr. McMahon was a member of the Slovak Club in Barnesboro. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Survivors include four sons, Patrick A. McMahon of Barnsboro, William P. McMahon of Portage, Donald R. McMahon of Centralia, MO. and Ronald K. McMahon of Marsteller; four daughters Mrs. James (Joanne) Prasko of Hastings, Mrs. Larry (Barbara J) Lorensen of Mexico , MO, Mary Lou Pringle of Meadville, and Judith Lea McMahon, at home; 13 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. McMahon was preceded in death by his wife Florence M. (Short) McMahon in 1992 and his parents, William P. (Peter William) and Maude Ann( James) McMahon. McMahon, Maude Ann (James)
Bolivar Native Fatally Injured in Road Crash
A native of Bolivar died Saturday of injuries received in a traffic accident in Kittanning. The dead woman is Mrs. Maude A. McMahon 45, wife of William (Peter William) McMahon, Natrona. The mishap occurred last Thursday at 8:30 p.m. when the light auto in which Mrs. McMahon was a passenger was struck by a heavy truck. Her husband was injured in the crash. Mrs. McMahon was born in Bolivar, Aug 20, 1905 a daughter of Lewis G. James and the late Mrs. James. She had lived in the Natrona area for the past 22 years.

Natrona Pair In Crash; Wife Critically Hurt
A Natrona woman injured with her husband when their light car was demolished by a semi-trailer truck at the interection of Highways 28 and 422 west of Kittanning Thursday, today was in critical condition in Armstrong County General Hospital. Mrs. William P. (Peter William) McMahon of River avenue Natrona was still unconscious with critical injuries received in the accident. Her husband, driver of their British built Hillman car, was discharged from the hospital after he was a patient there for a day. The couple was returning from Brookville, where they went for a drive to see the autumn color in the Cook Forest area on Mr. McMahon's day off from work in Brackenridge plant of Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corp. The McMahon's were making a left turn into Highway 422 when their car was hit by an approaching fuel truck, driven by Charles W. Smith 24 of Kutztown, PA. Mrs McMahon this morning was reported still unconscious. She is known to have a fractured nose, dislocated wrist and severe cuts of the eye, forehead, arms and legs. Her condition thus far has not yet permitted x-Ray examination. Mr McMahon who is now at the home of his only son Grant in West Seventh avenue Tarentum received three fractured ribs and cuts on his face, elbows and legs. Their small sedan was completely demolished by the impact with the semi-trailer type truck.

Muir -- Mrs. Margaret Bertha (Griffith), 74, Fairfield Twp. died at 2:55 p.m. May 16, 1960 in her home. Born Nov. 28, 1885 daughter of Matthew and Agnes (Snyder) Griffith. Preceded in death by four infant children and three daughters; Christine; wife of Frank Carmichael; Amy wife of Alvin Payne and Dorinda wife of Anthony Bernabo. Overdorff, Hazel I. (Eales) Short
Mrs. Hazel Irene Short Overdroff, 67 of Bolivar, Westmoreland County, died of an apparent Heart Attack yesterday. She was the wife of Floyd Overdroff of Bolivar. Her first husband, Philip A. Short died in 1941. Mrs. Overdroff leaves five children by her previous marriage: Mrs. Rebecca Howard, Mrs. Margaret Henderson, Mrs. Ray Nixon, and Thomas Short all of Bolivar. She also leaves a daughter, Mrs. Florence McMahon of Tarentum, 19 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Mrs. Overdorff lived in Tarentum at 411 Lock Street for some 40 years she was a seamstress. the former Mrs. Short, a widow, remarried during the Christmas hiliday season in 1967.

Mrs. Julia Rosborough
Mrs. Julia Rosborough died suddenly at her home in Cokeville at 9:00 o'clock Saturday evening August 25, aged 79 years. The deceased was formerly Miss Julia A. Long. In 1862 she married Barney B. Black who died January 15, 1893. May 24, 1894 she married Samuel F. Hazlett who died May 17, 1905. On April 19 1906 she married James Rosborough who still survives. All three were veterans of the Civil War. She is also survived by the following children: James Black, of Blacklick; Mrs Thomas Eales of Cokeville; Mrs Anna B Hazlett, of Millwood; Charles Black of Jewell; John Black at home and Robert Black of Sharon. There are also 44 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. The deceased lived nearly all her life in Blairsville and Saltsburg. She was converted in early life and was a devout Christian. Mrs Rosborough was a member of Free Methodist Church of Blairsville. Funeral services conducted by Rev. Callen of Blacklick were held at her late home and interment made in Blairsville Cemertery

Mrs. Julia A. Rosborough, aged 79 years died at her home in Cokeville on Saturday. She was married three times, her first husband Barney B Black; her second, Samuel F Hazlett, and her third partner in life was James Rosborough who survives. Her three husbands were veterans of the Civil War. Among the children living is James Black of Blacklick.

SHORT -- Charles A. "Chal", 84, Bolivar, died Sept. 20, 1994 at Good Samaritian Medical Center, Johnstown. Born June 23, 1910 in Fairfield Twp., son of late Joseph and Blanche (Yeager) Short. Preceded in death by brothers, Clyde, Victor and Bryan Short. Survived by wife of 54 years Martha F. (Muir) Short, and these children; Mrs. Frank (Bonnie) Ballas, Indiana, Pa. Mrs. Raymond (Elaine) Closson, Bolivar; John C. and wife Rose Short, Bolivar RD 1 six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Brother of Venna Rolley and Wendell "Ted" Short, both of Bolivar. Preceded in death by husband Joseph. Hazel A. Short, 80, of Bolivar died Saturday Sept. 16, 1995 at her home. She was born Sept. 29, 1914 in Fairfield Twp. a daughter of the late Harry E. and Emma Wambaugh Gill. She was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Wendell F. "Ted" Short. a brother, Washington Lewis Gill; and a sister, Mary Elizabeth Simms. She is survived by four sons, Daniel K. Short of Bolivar, James R. Wagner Sr. of Ligonier, Edward C. Wagner of New Florence and Omer Wagner of Robinson; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. Friends were received at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar where services were held Tuesday, with Art Crissman Officiating. Burial was in West Fairfield Cemetery, New Florence RD 1. Preceded in death by brother, Harry "Dick" , sister Olive; and half sister Sarah Rebecca, "Becky" Howard. Survived by widow, former Violet E. Penrose, and daughter Grace wife of Robert Shetler, Robinson RD 1 ; also five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Brother of Margaret Henderson, Bolivar RD 1; Florence McMahon, Tarentum; and June Nixon, Robinson RD 1. Member of First Church of Christ, West Bolivar. Survived by stepchildren, George Campbell and Mrs. Beverly Krivansky, both of Pitcairn; also seven grandchildren. Brother of Charles A., Wendell and Mrs. Venna Rolley all of Bolivar. Violet Evelyn Penrose Short
Survived by daughter, grandchildren, great-grandsons, a sister and brother. Violet Evelyn Short, 80, of Robinson died Thursday May 9, 2002 at home. She was born Nov. 24, 1921 to Charles and Cora Lichtenfels Penrose in West Wheatfield Township. She is survived by her daughter, Grace I. Shetler and her husband, Robert G of Robinson. Also grandchildren Susanne Stiffey and her husband Kevin and Joseph Shetler and his wife Tammie Bruner of Robinson, Shelly Bennett and her husband Dennis, Brush Valley; and Thomas Shetler and his wife Nikki Milicia of Northern Cambria. Also her granddaughter-in-law Lou Ann Shetler of Bolivar; five great grandsons; her sister, Irene Baird of Bolivar and her brother Otis of Robinson. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Joseph T in 1984; her grandson Robert A Shetler; two sisters and six brothers. Funeral services were held Saturday at Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, Rev. Kenneth Rudkin officiating. Interment was in Germany Lutheran Cemetery. Preceded in death by parents, four brothers: Clyde, Victor, Bryan, and Chal Short; and sister, Mildred Short. Survived by wife, Hazel A. (Gill) Short; sons Daniel K. Short, Bolivar, James R. Wagner Sr. Ligonier; Edward C. Wagner, Robinson, Pa. 10 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren, Sister Venna Rolly, New Florence. Prior to his retirement he was self-employed as a general contractor. He was a member of the Blairsville Church of Christ. Friends received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar, where service will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, the Rev. Art Crissman. Interment, West Fairfield Cemetery, new Florence.
