Donald Floyd Short
Donald Floyd Short, 71, of Pittsburgh, formerly of Gray Station, died Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000 at his home. A son of James L. and Annabelle Kesner Short, he was born Nov. 28, 1928, in Gray Station.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He graduated from Derry High School. Prior to retirement in 1987, he was an agent for the Internal Revenue Service for 35 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Helen Balch Short; three sons, Christopher Short and his wife, Carol, of North New Portland, Maine, Lawrence Short and his wife, Pamela, of Gray Station and Bruce Short of Coraopolia; a daughter, Marilyn Mader of Squirrel Hill; and three grandsons, Alexander, Zachery and Maxwell Short. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, James L. Short Jr. and a sister, Annabelle Short.
A graveside service was held Saturday in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, with Father Chester J. Raimer officiating. The Richard L. Shoemaker Funeral Home , 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, was in charge of arrangements.
James Kearney Short
James Kearney Short, 69, of Derry died Thursday Jan. 21, 1999 in Latrobe Area Hospital. He was born June 8, 1929, in Derry, a son of the late James K. and Anna Gamble Short. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy, and formerly owned and operated Laurel Environment Service Inc. and Short's Corner in Peanut.
He was a member of Derry Rod & Gun, Derry American Legion, Ligonier VFW and the Kingston Club.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra L. Queer Short, on Sept. 4, 1993. He is survived by his daughters, Mrs. Michael (Dawn Ann) Treylinek of Fort Walton Beach, Fla., Lisa J. Short of Derry and Aimee L. Short of Morgantown, W. Va., a granddaughter, Taylor; a brother, Andrew F. Short and his wife Carol of Derry; and two sisters, Anna Marie Snoddy of Indianapolis, Ind.; and Mrs. Albert (Kathryn) Fox of Hendersonville, Tenn.
Memorial services will be conducted Sunday at 2 p.m. in the McCabe Funeral Home, 300 W. Third Ave. Derry, with the Rev. David D. Wilson Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Oncology Department of Latrobe Area Hospital.
Mildred A. Short
Mildred A. Short, 58, of Bolivar RD 1 died Wednesday, Feb. 26, 1997 in Lee Hospital, Johnstown. She was born Nov. 30, 1938 in New Florence, a daughter of the late Walter P. and Sarah L. (Steffey) Muir. She was a member of First Church of Christ, West Bolivar, and a volunteer for the American Heart Association. She retired from Torrance State Hospital, where she was a psychiatric Aide. in addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles H. Short, in April 1996.
She is survived by her children, Carrie Anne and her husband Patrick Oliver, of New Florence RD 2, Eddie L. and his wife, Deborah Lindsey, of Bolivar RD 1, and Cory Hilton Short at home; grandsons, Joseph and Joshua Short; and the following brothers and sisters; Robert and wife, Martha Muir, of Orlando, Fla., Gladys and husband, Sam Yeager of New Florence RD 2, Shirley and husband James Dranzik of Greensburg, Denver and wife, Frances Muir, of Melrose Park, Ill. Leroy and wife Joan Muir of Portage, Harriet and husband, Dennis Payne of New Florence RD 2 and Harry Muir of New Florence RD 2.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence. Service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at First Church of Christ, West Bolivar with the Rev. Gabriel G. Mraz officiating. Interment in Germany Lutheran Cemetery.
Schaffstall
Cyrilla S. Schaffstall, 75, of Greensburg, died Friday, Aug. 21, 1992, at home. She was born May 16, 1917, in Jeannette, a daughter of the late Hilary B. and Anna Short Stader.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a registered nurse. She was a member of St. Paul's Roman Catholic Church, Carbon. She graduated in 1939 from the former Westmoreland Hospital School of Nursing, Greensburg. She was a member and treasurer of the Greensburg Lioness Club.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert M. Schaffstall, in 1982.
She is survived by a brother, Hilary Stader of Herminie; a sister, Mrs. John (Mary Jane) Diehl of Latrobe; and a number of nieces and nephews
Friends will be received at the Coshey-Nicholson Funeral Home Inc. 319 West Pittsburgh St. Greensburg, Sunday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m.. Prayer service will be held Monday at 8:45 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Paul's Church, Carbon. Interment will be in Greensburg Catholic Cemetery, Hempfield Twp.

Charles H. Short, 58, of Bolivar died Friday, April 26, 1996 at Lee Hospital, Johnstown. h
He was born Oct. 1, 1937 in Bolivar, a son of the late Bryan and Carrie Hysong Short.
He was a foreman for PennDot; a member of the Church of Christ, Bolivar; and a member of the Bearpond Sportsman's Club. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Clara Jane Bush and Violet "Doll" Burkett; and an infant brother William and an infant sister, Barbara. He is survived by his wife, Mildred A. Muir Short; a daughter, Carrie Anne and her husband Patrick Oliver, of New Florence; and two sons, Eddie L. and his wife Deborah Short, and Cory H. Short all of Bolivar. He is also survived by two sisters, Helen "Mood" Libengood of Blairsville, and Joan "Joby" Foust of Bolivar; and two brothers, Joseph "Bubber" Short of Pleasant Unity, and Donald Short of Bolivar; and two grandchildren, Joe and Josh Short of Bolivar. Friends will be received at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home Inc., 536 Market St., Bolivar, Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Church of Christ, Bolivar, with Elder Kenneth Thompson officiating. Anna Short, 85, of Derry, died Sunday, Dec. 25, 1994 in Edgewood Nursing Center, Youngstown, Pa.
She was born Dec. 23, 1909 in Derry Twp. a daughter of the late Andrew and Anna Chiperdak Gamble.
She was a homemaker and a member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Derry. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband James K. Short in 1967; three sisters, Rose Kern, Kathryn O'Donell and Helen McManamy; and three brothers, Andrew, John, and Metro Gamble. She is survived by two sons, James K. Short and Andrew F. Short, both of Derry; two daughters, Anna Marie Snoddy of Indianapolis, Ind. and Mrs. Albert (Kathryn R.) Fox of Hendersonville, Tenn.; Four sisters, Mary Sinemus of Derry RD, Sophie Bollinger and Mrs. James (Julia) Parker, both of Derry, and Mrs. Edward (Mildred) Musho of Ocala, Fla.; 16 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Agnes E. Pagnotta, 91, of Latrobe died Thursday, May 8, 1997 in the Greensburg Nursing and Convalescent Center. She was born May 20, 1905 in Derry Twp., a daughter of the late Charles E. and Catherine E. Murphy Short. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown, and its Rosary Altar Society. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph A. Pagnotta; an infant son, Joseph Pagnotta; five brothers, Leo, Regis, Joseph, Clarence and John Short; and a sister, Julia C. Short. she is survived by a son, Francis E. Pagnotta and his wife, Barbara of Latrobe RD 4; three daughters, Mrs. John (Mary Catherine) Alesch of Colorado Springs, Colo., Rosella Olshefski of Loma Linda, Calif., and Theresa Rullo of Latrobe; a brother, Paul E. Short of Latrobe; two sisters, Mrs. Virgil (Ida) Shirey of Cleveland, Ohio, and Mrs. Joseph (Ann) Kahl of Blairsville RD 4; 16 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Mrs. Nellie M. Holman O'Barto, 76, of 443 1/2 Lloyd Ave. Latrobe died Sunday Dec. 7, 1980. She was born May 4, 1904, in Pittsburgh, a daughter of the late Albert and Margaret Short Holman.
She was a member of the Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Latrobe, and its Rosary Society.
Surviving are her husband John C O'Barto; four sons, John L., Albert D., and Thomas J., all of Latrobe, and Ronald J. of Boise, Idaho; five daughters, Mrs. Richard (Bernadette) Domenic and Mrs. George (Dolores) Burick, both of Latrobe, Mrs. John (Anna Mae) McLaughlin of Turtle Creek, Mrs. James (Caroline) McPhaden of Connecticut, and Mrs. Carl (Shirley) Smith of New York; 54 grandchildren ; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Clarence J. Knitz
Clarence J. Kintz, 76, of 1111 Jefferson St. Latrobe, died Oct. 20, 1982 in Latrobe Area Hospital.
Born in Millwood Nov. 14, 1905, he was a son of the late Ambrose and Mary Short Kintz.
He was a member of Holy Family Church.
Preceding him in death were one daughter, Frances Libengood, in 1976 and two brothers, Clyde and William Kintz.
He is survived by his wife, Elvira Reaney Kintz, Two sons,

Clarence P. Short, 65, of Bradenville RD 2, died Saturday July 27, 1985 in Latrobe Area Hospital.
He was born Dec. 16, 1919 in Latrobe, a son of the late Charles E. and Catherine Murphy Short.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Standard Steel, Latrobe. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U. S. Army. He was a member of St. Rose Church, Latrobe. He was also a member of the Cooperstown Sportsman Association, and the American Slovak Beneficial Society.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Julia Short; and three brothers, Regis, Leo, and Joseph.
He is survived by Marie Betty Belz, with whom he made his home; three brothers, John of Hostetter, Gilbert A. and Paul E. both of Latrobe; three sisters, Mrs. Joseph (Agnes) Pagnotta of Latrobe RD 4, Mrs. Virgil (Ida) Shirey of Cleveland, Ohio and Mrs. Joseph (Ann) Kahl of Blairsville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Sister Joseph Angela Short, 88, of Assumption Hall, Greensburg, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 1990 in Assumption Hall.
She was born May 22, 1901, in Blairsville, a daughter of the late Dennis and Teresa Graff Short.
She entered the Sisters of Charity of Seton Hill, Dec. 8, 1922. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics from Seton Hill College and a Master's Degree in Advanced Mathematics from the University of Pittsburgh. She also attended Duquesne University, Pittsburgh for certification in library science. She taught mathematics at Johnstown Catholic High School, the former St. Luke's High School in Carnegie, and the former Elizabeth Seton High School in Brookline, for three years, she served as records librarian at Pittsburgh Hospital, which is now part of the Forbes Health System. From 1952-62, she taught math and worked as librarian at the former St. John the Baptist High School, Pittsburgh.
From 1962-75, she taught at the former Holy Innocence in Sheridan. She moved to Assumption Hall in 1975.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Short; and two sisters, Teresa Jelley, and Elizabeth Short.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received at Assumption Hall, Mt. Thor Road, Greensburg, Friday from 1:30 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in Assumption Hall Chapel, with the Rev. Robert Moslener as celebrant. She was employed by Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. She was a member of the Bradenville Assembly of God Church.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Scott Short, in 1964.

Joseph F. Short, 80, of 115 E. First Ave. Latrobe died at Westmoreland Manor, Greensburg, Saturday Feb. 12, 1983. He was born in Derry Twp. Feb. 26, 1902 a son of the late Charles E. and Catherine E. Murphy Short.
He was a member of St. John the Evangelist Church, Latrobe. He retired in 1963 with 30 years of service from the Edgewater Steel Co. of Oakmont. He was a member of the Sons of Italy, Alexander Street, Latrobe; an honorary member of the Cooperstown Sportsmen's Association.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude A. Capp Short, June 1964; a daughter, Beatrice A. Ulishney, May 1977; two brothers, Leo and Regis Short, and a sister, Julia Short.
He is survived by two sons, John Edward Short, Greensburg, and Charles F. Short, Latrobe ; two daughters, Mrs. Michael (Hilda) Polosky, Latrobe, and Mary G. Short, West Bend, Wis. ; four brothers, Gilbert A. Short and Paul A. Short both of Latrobe; John A Short, Hostetter; and Clarence P. Lawrence Short 84, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday Aug. 7, 1986 in Jeannette District Memorial Hospital. He was born May 4, 1902 in Gray Station the son of the late Albert and Jennie Ruffner Short.
Prior to his retirement he was employed at Union Switch & Signal in Swissvale. He was a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church of North Huntingdon.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Shirey Short, in 1984; and a son James A. Short in 1947.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.

George L. "Popeye" Short, 56, of Blairsville RD 3 (Gray Station), died Friday Dec. 16, 1983 at his daughter's home in Ohio.
Born Aug. 21, 1927 in Torrance he was a son of Gladys F. Kunkle Short of Blairsville RD 3 and the late Norman C. Short.
Before his retirement he was an employee of Derry Contract Machinists. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and a member of the National Trappers Association.
In addition to his father he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Esther Weiss Short in 1973.
Surviving in addition to his mother, are three daughters; Mrs. John (Shirley) Felker of Derry RD 1 (Millwood), Cathy Lynn Tarr of New Springfield Ohio and Karen Marie Short at home; two brothers; Norman of Derry and Walter of Gray Station; a sister, Mrs. Kenneth (Grace) Quick of Blairsville and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Teresa M. Jelley, 77, of St. Anne Home for the Elderly, Greensburg, (formerly of Blairsville) died Thursday afternoon in Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, after a brief illness.
She was born in Blairsville Oct. 16, 1902, daughter of the late Dennis A. Short and Teresa Graff Short.
A lifelong resident of the Blairsville area, she was retired from the Graff Coal Co. Blairsville where she was employed for over 25 years and was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church.
She is survived by two sisters, Sister Joseph Angela of Greensburg and Elizabeth Short of St. Anne's in Greensburg.
She was preceded in death by her husband John F. in 1974.
Friends will be received from 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and noon to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in Hallow Funeral Home, Blairsville, where a Rosary will be recited at 3 p.m. Sunday by Catholic Daughters of Americas' St. Theresa Court 562.

Charles J. Cullen, 75, of 2330 Winter Drive, Granite City, Ill. (Formerly of Derry) died Tuesday June 28, 1983 in St. Mary Hospital, St. Louis, MO.
Born Feb. 22, 1908 in Derry, he was a son of the late Charles H. and Gertrude Short Cullen.
He is survived by his wife, Rowena Cullen; one son, Robert Cullen of Pittsburgh; one brother, Albert J. Cullen of Miami, Fla. and four sisters, Mrs. Regina Flowers of Columbia, S. C., Mrs. Lyola Thomas of Uniontown, Mrs. Thelma Berkmyre of Latrobe and Mrs. Charles (Catherine) Keener of Pittsburgh.

She was born Aug. 30, 1913 in Hillside, Derry Twp. a daughter of the late William D. and Flora L. Short Jenkins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, John W. Jenkins.
She is survived by her husband, Sheridan P. Maiers, a daughter Flora Mae Shaffer of Derry; two sisters, Florence Hartman of Blairsville and Mrs. William (Mary) Akins of Hillside; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received at the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home Inc. 601 Weldon St. Latrobe, Thursday and Friday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. Services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home, with the Rev. Dr. Merrit Edner officiating. Interment will be in Coles Cemetery, Derry.

Anna C. Short, 77, of 930 Walnut Drive, Latrobe died Sunday March 4, 1990 in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born June 5, 1912 in Latrobe a daughter of the late Ambrose and Josephine Boggio Mainini.
She was a member of Holy Family Church, Latrobe.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Regis B. Short; a son, James Short; and a brother, Louis Mainini.
She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Victoria Albertus Frey of Aliquippa; and two nephews.
Friends will be received at the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home Inc. 601 Weldon St. Latrobe, Monday from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Holy Family Church, Latrobe. Interment will be in St. Mary Cemetery, Unity Twp.

Eva I. Short, 79, of 416 Conrad Court, Latrobe died Friday Jan. 24, 1992, in Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born Aug. 22, 1912 in Armbrust a daughter of the late Autis and Mary Sias Baughman.
She is survived by a son, Edward J. Short of Latrobe; three daughters, Mrs. Eugene (Louise) Reffo and Mrs. Richard (Patricia) Smith, both of New Derry, and Mrs. Charles (Gail) Moore of Derry; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Phillippi
Anthony "Tony" Phillippi, 25, of New Derry died Sunday July 19, 1987 as the result of an automobile accident in Derry Twp.
He was born Dec. 7, 1961 in Latrobe a son of George M. Phillippi of New Derry and Elizabeth "Betty Ann" Allison Phillippi of Derry.
He was an employee of Ross Refuse Service, Derry. He was a 1980 graduate of Derry area Senior High School. He was a member and officer of the Derry Ukrainian Society.
He was preceded in death by a brother George M. Phillippi II who died in 1975.
In addition to his parents he is survived by his wife, Cheryl Ann Ross Phillippi; two brothers, Robert A. Phillippi of Roanoke, Va. and Steven of Derry; three sisters, Mrs. John (Kay Ann) Lehman of New Alexandria, Mrs. Larry (Susan) Darazio of Bradenville, and Mary Beth Short of Latrobe.
Short
Evelyn Shirey Short, 82, of North Huntingdon, died Friday, June 22, 1984 in McKeesport Hospital. She was born June 25, 1901 in Emlenton, Pa., a daughter of the late Henry and Emma Campbell Shirey.
She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, North Huntingdon.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by a son, James A. Short in 1947. She was the last of 13 children of the Shirey Family.
She is survived by her husband, Lawrence C. Short; and a number of nieces and nephews.

In Loving Memory of
Mrs. Sarah Eales, 84 who resided with a daughter at 206 East 7th Avenue, Tarentum, died in her home at 1:10 a.m. yesterday after suffering a stroke two weeks ago.
Mrs. Eales was born in Saltsburg Oct. 11, 1871 and lived most of her life in the Blairsville area before coming to Tarentum four years ago.
She was a member of the Methodist Church at Blairsville.
Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. hazel Short of Tarentum, with whom she made ehr home; Mrs. Dorothy james, New Derry, Pa., and Mrs. Louise Dry, Leeds, S. D. and a son, charles Eales, Rochester, PA.
The body was removed to Blairsville for burial.
