Emily J. Henderson, 63, of Bolivar RD 1 died Monday April 25, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Mrs. Henderson was born July 4, 1919 in Ligonier. She was a member of Fort Palmer United Presbyterian Church, Fairfield Twp. Survivors include her husband, George W. ; four sons, Richard W. Latrobe RD 5 Larry R., Latrobe George D., Tinker Air Force Base, Cal. and Rex B., Bolivar RD 1 ; two brothers, Thomas Demmitt, Tacoma, Wash. and Edward Demmitt, Ligonier. Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Demmitt and Mrs. Sherman (Ruth) Barnhart, both of Ligonier. Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at Snyder Funeral Home, Ligonier, Rev. William H. Jacobs officiating. Interment will follow in Ligonier Valley Cemetery.
Joseph Curtis Henderson son of John and Ada (McDowell) Henderson died at his home some miles south of Bolivar, Wednesday morning July 9, aged 22 years and 3 months. He had suffered from valvuar heart trouble for some months and a complication arose causing gangrene and a few days before his death it was found necessary to amputate his limb above the knee--but all the skill and tender nursing failed to restore and he answered the summons trusting in the One who bore all our pain. He was united in marriage last September only to Miss Gertrude Blair, daughter of Mr. & Mrs. S. P. Blair, who mourns him together with father and mother and ten brothers and sisters. The funeral service was held on the lawn of his late home and was attended by an unusually large audience being conducted by Dr. W. R. Thompson assisted by Rev. W. P. McDowell. The music was furnished by some friends of the deceased and six of his brothers placed the body in its last resting place in the family lot in Fort Palmer Presbyterian Cemetery, in the presence of a large company of sympathizing friends. He was a member of Camp Nc 730 P.O. S. of A. of Bolivar. He was esteemed greatly because of his kindly spirit and sympathy was universal in the time of his suffering and death.

Sadie A. Henderson, 89, of New Florence RD 2 formerly of Bolivar died Friday Nov. 1, 1996 at her home. She was born Feb. 13, 1907 in Derry Twp. a daughter of the late John and Maude (Gamble) Williams. She was a member of the New Florence Senior Citizens. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence A. Henderson in 1953; Two sons, Edgar and Clyde Henderson; two daughters Olive Shomo and Doris Davis; four brothers and four sisters. She is survived by four daughters, Marie (Mrs. Robert) Dunkle of North Canton, Ohio; Florence (Mrs. Robert) Hempel of Pompano Beach, Fla.; Linda ( Mrs. Carl) Oliver of Robinson RD 1; Carol Lichtenfels of Lorton, Va.; Two sons, Paul W. Henderson of New Florence RD 1 and Lloyd G. Henderson of New Florence RD 2; and several grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. Friends were received at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar where services were held Monday with the Rev. Allyn K. Giuffre officiating. Burial was in Bolivar Westview Cemetery, Bolivar.
Marie G. Henderson
Marie G. Henderson 79 of Bolivar RD 1 died Thursday, Oct. 16, 1997 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. She was born Sept. 16, 1918 in Fairfield Twp. a daughter of the late George H. and Nora (Betz) Flickinger. Before her retirement she had been an Avon representative in the Bolivar/Robinson area for over 20 years. She was a member and former organist and choir member of the Bolivar First Church of Christ. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Roy E. Henderson, in 1987 a son Jay Arthur, a sister Jean Muir; two brothers, Robert and William "Bus" Flickinger and a grandson Keith Hall. She is survived by five daughters, Fay A. Henderson of Westminster, Md. N. Judith Hall of Blairsville, Karen (Mrs. Ernie) Foster of Bolivar RD 1 , Gay (Mrs. Jeff) Knupp and Tracy (Mrs. Jeff) Bealonis, both of New Florence RD 3, two sons, H. Fritz Henderson and his wife, Kathryn of Burke, Va. and Barry L. Henderson and his wife, Linda of Bolivar RD 1; 15 grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Mundorff of Bolivar RD 1 and Gladys Spaugy of Anchorage, Alaska; and a brother Merle Flickinger of St. Louie, MO. Edger C. "Dopey" Henderson, 64, of Bolivar RD1 died Sunday April 2, 1989 at Mercy Hospital, Johnstown. He was born April 26, 1924 in Fairfield Twp. a son of Sadie (Williams) Henderson of New Florence RD 2 and the late Clarence Henderson. Before his retirement he had been employed as an operating engineer by North Cambria Fuel in Acme. He was a World War II veteran and recipient of the Purple Heart, having served with the U.S. Army. He was a member of VFW Post 9310 of Robinson and American Legion Post 128 of Bolivar. He was preceded in death by a brother Clyde; and two sisters, Olive Shomo and Doris Davis. In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Cheri-D (Blatchley) Henderson; three daughters, Connie (Mrs. Charles) Krouse of Robinson, Cindy (Mrs. Robert) Hamilton of Youngwood, and Erin Henderson of Greensburg; four sons, Terry Edger of Latrobe RD 3 , Randy L. of Latrobe, Larry W. of Mechanicsburg, and William Henderson of Greensburg; a stepson, Brian Malik of Greensburg, four sisters, Marie Dunkle of North Canton, Ohio, Florine Hempel of Pompano Beach, Fla., Linda Oliver of Robinson and Carol Lichtenfels of Larton, Va.; two brothers, Lloyd G. of New Florence RD2, and Paul Henderson of New Florence and five grandchildren. Kathryn Henderson
Kathryn Henderson, 90, of Bolivar died May 17, 2000 at Bethlen Home, Ligonier Twp. She was born Nov. 2, 1909 in Fairfield Twp. daughter of Paul S. and Elsie Seigh Yeager. Before her retirement, she was a clerk at the Bolivar U.S. Post Office for 28 years. She was a life long member of First Church of Christ, Bolivar where she was a Sunday school teacher for over 60 years. She was a member of Laurel Valley Senior Citizens, a volunteer at Indian Haven Rest Home, and coordinator for the Bolivar Well Baby Clinic for 18 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, A. Craeson "Whitey" Henderson in 1954, a son, Wayne Elliot Henderson; two sisters, Ruth Henderson and Virginia Moore and three brothers, Paul Sherman, William Robert and Davis Lee Yeager. She is survived by a son, Ralph W. Henderson (and his wife, Barbara) of Greensburg; four grandchildren, Allison Henderson, Kevin Henderson, Jodi Schneider and Alan Henderson; three great grandchildren, Nicole Denier and Ryan Henderson and Asia Henderson; two sisters, Alice "Ash" Yeager and Mildred "Mootz" Yeager, both of Bolivar; a nephew, Cory Yeager, whom she helped raise; nieces Lana Gale Lear and Sandy Carter, great niece Jill Warfel and her daughters, Kelsy and Kassidy and several other nieces and nephews. Willis E. Henderson, 87, of Bolivar, died Sunday Feb. 26, 1995 at Beacon Manor, Indiana, Pa. He was born Dec. 13, 1907 in Fairfield Twp. a son of the late Frank F. and Jennie E. (Muir) Henderson. Before his retirement he had been employed as a truck driver for Allegheny Foundry. He was a member of and former board member of Bolivar United Methodist Church. He was also a member of Acacia Lodge No. 355, F&AM Blairsville; Couderport Consistory; Tall Cedars of Lebanon; BPOE No. 406 and Moose Lodge No. 187 both of Blairsville. He was preceded in death by his wife Ida (Hostulter) Henderson who died in 1988; a brother, Ernie and two sisters, Nettie Ankney and Jean Neiport. He is survived by a daughter, Jean Pahach of Bolivar; two step daughters, Charlotte LeFebure of Pittsburgh; and Shirley Kromer of Normalville; four grandsons and six great grandchildren; five sisters, Jennie Holdell of Clyde; Adda Fulcomer and Ethel Silk both of Bolivar RD 1; June McKinney of Indiana, Pa. He was retired from the Franklin Division of Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown and a member of the First Church of Christ. He also was a member of United Steel Workers Local 2644. Survivors include his wife Mary M. Alan G. Henderson, 30, of Greensburg, died Wednesday April 24, 2002 in Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. He was born Sept. 9, 1971 in Jeannette, the son of Ralph W. and Barbara M. Henderson of Greensburg. He was a member of the Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church. Alan was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Rex and Catherine Myers, and paternal grandparents, Whitey and Kathryn Henderson. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister Jodi Schneider and husband Tom, of Pittsburgh; and a niece, Aidan. Alan will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Born June 27, 1918 Fairfield Twp., Westmoreland County, she was the daughter of William and Agnes Lear Tantlinger. She was a member of Ft. Palmer Presbyterian Church, where she was a member of the Ladies Guild and a past custodian. She was a member of O.E.S., Ft. Ligonier Chapter 349 where she was proud of her four daughters, all past matrons. She was past president of Fairfield Fire Co. Auxiliary, a former cook at Fairfield Elementary and Laurel Valley High School and a ardent quilter. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, C. Kenneth, and a brother, Leroy. Surviving are daughters Agnes, wife of Richard Gibson, and Romayne Galbraith, New Florence, Margery, wife of Richard Jasper, Blairsville and Karen wife of Robert Priest, New Florence; sisters and brothers Erma Muir and Glenn, Bolivar, William, Armagh and Mary Edna Knupp, Latrobe. Terry E. Henderson, 38, of New Florence RD 1 (formerly of Bolivar) died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997, in Indiana Hospital, Indiana, Pa. Born Jan. 15, 1958 in Johnstown he was a son of Carol Maxine Betz Henderson and the late Edger C. Henderson (who died in 1989). Terry's three loves in life were his job, his friends and the Pittsburgh Steelers. His job at ARC in Greensburg was very valuable to him, because it made him feel valuable. Making Instant friends and turning them into lifetime relationships are what made Terry special. In addition to supporting the Steelers, he also really loved bowling and challenging puzzles. The love and warmth he shared with his family and friends was as contagious as his never ending smile. Edward M. Hill, 99, of Blairsville RD 1 formerly of Seward, died Saturday, Jan. 7, 1984, in Lee Hospital, Johnstown. He was born Feb. 9, 1884 in St. Clair Twp., Westmoreland County, a son of the late Samuel and Susan (Miller) Hill. He was a member of New Florence United Methodist Church and a retired employee of Seward Generating Station, Pennsylvania Electric Co. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret I. (Medsger) Hill; second wife, Elsie (Overdorf) Hill; sons, Samuel, Victor and Charles; and eight brothers and sisters. He is survived by three children, Hannah Marsh of Blairsville RD 1; Joseph of Seward; and John of Gary, Ind.; also 14 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one brother, Lawrence of Buffalo, N.Y. Mrs. Anna Lynnn Haire, 86, of Bolivar died Wednesday, Jan. 11,1984 in Bethlen Home, Ligonier. Born May 10, 1897 in Bolivar, she was a daughter of the late William and Margaret McHail Robinson. She was a member of Bolivar Methodist Church. Prior to her retirement she was a school teacher, teaching music in the Valley schools. She was preceded in death by her husband , Robert Haire. She is survived by several nieces and nephews. Family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in Wolford-McCracken Funeral Home, 144 E. Main St. Ligonier, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday with the Rev. Conway E. Keibier officiating. Private interment will follow in West Fairfield Cemetery.
Ralph W. Hartman
Ralph Wynn Hartman, 76, of Ligonier RD 1 died Friday Oct. 1, 1999, in Latrobe Area Hospital. Born Sept. 9, 1923 in Homestead, he was the son of the late Ralph and Mae (Wynn) Hartman. Prior to his retirement he worked for Bethlehem Steel, Johnstown, as a crane operator for 18 years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy, and a member of Antique Auto Club of America. Surviving are his wife of 53 years, Margaret J. "Peg" Garland Hartman; daughter, Sally K. Henderson of New Florence; son, Walter R. Hartman of Palm Beach County, Fla.; three grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday in J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home Inc., 144 E. Main St., Ligonier. Service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday in the funeral home with Mike Yuhas and Homer Tantlinger officiating. Interment will be in Fort Palmer Cemetery, Bolivar RD 1.
HOOD Helen R., 71, of New Florence died Aug. 6, 1997 at Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe. Born May 17, 1926 in Bolivar, daughter of the late John and Nellie (Welshon) Robinson. Also preceded in death by husband, Ward B. Hood, on Aug. 20, 1984; sister, Tillie; brother, William Robinson. James D. "Perk" Hughes, Jr., 52, of Van Nuys, Calif., formerly of Bolivar, died Thursday, Oct. 20, 1977 in California. Mr. Hughes was born Feb. 9, 1925 in Bolivar, the son of the late James D. Sr. and Clara Ann (Shake) Hughes. Mr. Hughes is survived by sons: James Vance, John and Jackie all of California. He was the brother of Mrs. Mabel Schoch of New Castle, Del.; Melvin of Pittsburgh; Jack of Bolivar; Mrs. Betty Trostle of New Castle, Del., William of Bolivar; and Roger of New Florence RD1. Nancy P. Hughes
Nancy P. Hughes, 66, of New Florence, died Wednesday Jan. 7, 1998 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. She was born Feb. 5, 1931 in Robinson, a daughter of the late Phillip and Louise (Crusan) Lear. She was a member of the First Church of Christ, West Bolivar, and a graduate of the Pittsburgh Art Institute. She was a member of the Doll Makers Guild; a master doll maker; and owner of Memories Doll Shop, New Florence. She is survived by her husband, Paul Roger Hughes; three sons, Dr. Paul R. P. Hughes and his wife, Janet, of State College; Barry G. Hughes and his wife, Lou Ann of Valparaiso, Ind.; and Kenneth W. Hughes and his wife, Tami, of New Florence; a special niece, Vickie (Mrs. Jeff) Rhoades of Camp Hill; 16 grandchildren; and a brother, Donald Lear of Garden Plains, Kansas. Funeral services were held Friday, at the Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, with the Rev. Gabriel G. Mraz officiating. Burial was in Fort Palmer Cemetery. William B. Hughes
William B. Hughes, 62, of Bolivar, died Thursday, Oct. 19, 1989 at Lee Hospital, Johnstown. He was born Sept. 3, 1927 in Bolivar, a son of the late James and Clara (Shake) Hughes. Before his retirement he was employed as bus driver for Greyhound Bus Lines, Pittsburgh. He was preceded in death by a brother, James "Perk" Hughes. He is survived by his wife, Gladys (Boring) Hughes; a daughter, Karen (Mrs. John) Murphy of Bolivar; two sons, William F. Hughes of Bolivar RD1 and Greg T. Hughes of New Florence RD1; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mabel Shoch and Betty Trostle, both of New Castle; and three brothers, Melvin of Pittsburgh, John of Bolivar, and Roger Hughes of New Florence. Funeral services were held Monday at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar, with the Rev. Samuel R. Astolos officiating. Burial was in Bolivar Westview Cemetery. HOFFMAN Elverda M., 76, Robinson, RD 1 died April 17, 1998 at St. Andrews Village, Indiana, Pa. Born March 24, 1922 in Indiana County, daughter of late Homer and Sara E. (Repine) Libengood. Preceded in death by first husband Jerry A. Lear Jr. who died in 1948; second husband Henry Hoffman who died in 1985; daughter, Cynthia Naugle; and brother Jay Libengood. HORNER Avonell M., 86, Ligonier, formerly of Robinson died Nov. 23, 2002 at Bethlen Home. Born Oct. 26, 1916 in Lucernemines, Pa., daughter of late Robert H. Mitchell Sr. and Sarah Little Mitchell. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, Clyde; Bolivar American Legion 128 Ladies Auxiliary; and Robinson VFW 9310 Ladies Auxiliary. Survived by daughters, Mrs. Robert (JoAnn) True, Mayer, Ariz.; and Mrs. Edward (Cleo) Langham and Mrs. Andy (Bonnie) Long, both of Bolivar RD 1; nine grandchildren; and 19 great grandchildren. Kenneth F. Garland, 67, of Bolivar RD 1 died Friday July 25, 1980 at Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. Mr. Garland was born Jan. 8, 1913 in Bolivar, a son of the late George C. and Elsie May (James) Garland. He was a member of First Church of Christ, West Bolivar. He was a retired employee of R&P Coal Co. Also member of Local 412, UMWA and veteran of World War II. Mr Garland was preceded in death by a brother, Paul and sister, Ethel Marie. He is survived by his wife, Marie (Forsythe) Garland, and these children; George K. of Bolivar RD 1; Roger of Leander, Tex.; Thomas of Bolivar RD 1; and Diana Lynn and Heather, both at home; also nine grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was a brother of Arthur of Bolivar RD 1; Russell of Robinson; Mrs. Edna Forsythe of Mars; Mrs. Irene Shetler of Bolivar; Mrs. Betty Busch of Robinson; and Mrs. Norma Mack of Akron, Ohio. Albert L. Garland, 80, of Greensburg died Sunday, May 5, 1996 at Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg. Mr. Garland was born May 20, 1915 in Bolivar, son of the late John and Margaret (Long) Garland. He was a retired employee of the Elliott Company of Jeannette, and was a member of the Greensburg Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. Survivors include three sons and a daughter, Robert and his wife Lorraine, Ashtabula, Ohio, William and wife Beverly and John and wife Linda, both of Greensburg, and Mrs. Blair (Jean) Crusan, Bolivar. Also surviving are several grandchildren and great grandchildren; Also surviving are a brother and a sister, Raymond and Sarah Henderson, both of Bolivar. Services were held Tuesday in Greensburg, Revs. D. Roy and William Underwood officiating. Interment was in St. Clair Cemetery, Hempfield Twp.
