Erma Marie Garland, 72, of Bolivar RD 1 died Thursday, April 17, 1997 at Westmoreland Regional Hospital, Greensburg. She was born Nov. 29, 1924 in West Bolivar, a daughter of the late Wesley and Lena (Muir) Stiffey. She was a member of First Church of Christ, West Bolivar. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Daniel Garland Sr.; three brothers, John Delbert, Warren Edward and Charles Richard "Dick"; and a sister, Constance Fay. She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Mrs. Bernard) Sapp of New Florence RD 2, and Sandra (Mrs. John) Deyarmin of Bolivar RD 1; two sons, Henry D. Garland Jr. and his wife Edna of Bolivar, and Robert John Garland of Waynesburg; five grandchildren; three great grandchildren; seven sisters, Naomi Jean Kelly of Virginia; Roberta Jane West of Pitcairn; Alma Stipcak of Blacklick; Shirley Higgins of Pitcairn; Janet Hall of Bolivar; Lena Warr of Blacklick; Hazel Poth of Coral; and four brothers, William Stiffey of Wilmerding; Francis "Dewey" Stiffey of Blairsville RD 1; and Wesley and Wayne Stiffey, both of Pitcairn. Funeral service was held Monday at First Church of Christ, West Bolivar, with the Rev. Gabriel G. Mraz officiating. Burial was in Fort Palmer Cemetery. Arrangements by Kenneth A. H. Louise Garland, 88, of Bolivar RD 1 died Saturday, March 9, 1996 at the home of her daughter. She was born Dec. 31, 1907 in Fairfield Twp. a daughter of the late William W. and Elizabeth J. (Johns) Garland. She was a life-time member of the Bolivar First Church of Christ and its Loyal Friends Sunday school class. She was a member of the Bolivar and New Florence Senior Citizens. Her hobbies included quilting and cheering for the Bolivar White Bums softball team. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by eight brothers, Earl, Leslie, Emmett, Odin, Glen, Joseph, Jack and Lloyd Garland; and two sisters, Alice Sharrer and Orveta Stuller. She is survived by a daughter, L. Jane Howard of Bolivar RD 1; a son, Dale R. Garland his wife Betty of Bolivar RD 1; eight grandsons and eight great grandchildren; also sisters-in-laws, Lillian, Vesta and Martha Garland all of Bolivar; and Betty Garland of Tampa, Fla. Funeral services were held Tuesday, at the Bolivar First Church of Christ, with the Rev. Gabriel Mraz officiating. Burial was in Fort Palmer Cemetery. GIBSON George W., 66, West Bolivar, died Oct. 15, 1983 at Latrobe Hospital. Born Feb. 11, 1917, in Fairfield Twp. son of late Grant and Flossie (Muir) Gibson. Survived by widow, former Irene L. EDNA A. FORSYTHE
Edna A. Forsythe, 85, of Mars,, died this morning at North Hills Passavant Hospital following an illness. She was born April 24, 1907, in Bolivar, Westmoreland County. She was a member of Mars Alliance Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marshall C. Forsythe, who died Aug. 27, 1990. They were married Sept. 3, 1924. Surviving are five sons, Wayne M. Forsythe of Zelienople, Glenn Forsythe of Ellwood City, Earl Forsythe of Valencia, Blair "Pete" Forsythe of Mars, and Gary Forsythe of Senaca, S.C; two sisters, Mrs. Irene Shetler of Bolivar and Mrs Betty Bush of Robinson; and a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister. Services were held Saturday, Nov. 14, from the McDonald Aeberli Funeral Home, Mars, with the Rev. FORSYTHE Friends of Edna Forsythe, of Mars, who died Wednesday Nov. 11, 1992 will be received at the McDonald Aeberli Funeral Home, 238 Grove Ave., Mars, from 7-9 p.m. Thursday and from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday. GAMBLE Margaret J. "Meg", 93, of Bolivar died Monday Aug. 15, 2005, in Close to Home Personal Care Center, Bolivar. She was born Thursday, Aug. 24, 1911, in Fairfield Twp., a daughter of the late Elmer and Molly West Lear. She was a member and former Sunday school teacher for the First Church of Christ in Bolivar. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Leo (Romayne) Altimus of Bolivar RD 1, and Margie Russell of Annandale, PA., and a son, Michael B. Gamble of Chandler, Ariz., 14 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Blair M. Gamble, in 1989; a son Eugene Gamble; a granddaughter, Melody Gamble; a son-in-law, David Russell; three sisters; Florence Lear, Hazel Schrover and Edith "Sis" Busch; and 10 brothers; Clyde, William, Frank, Alvin, Benjamin, Samuel, Vincent, Robert, Donald and Earl Lear. Bolivar native survived by wife, five children, brother, six sisters. Earl R. Roby, of Yakima, Wash. died Saturday, July 19, 1997 at home. Mr. Roby was born July 11, 1932 in Bolivar, son of John and Clara Betz Roby. He went to Yakima in 1950 with the U.S. Army. Survivors include his wife Shirley; five children, Thomas, Olympia, Wash., Michael, Jordan, Selah, Bill, Jordan, Soday, Daisy, Tenn., and Cherly Heckard and Robin Parham, both of Yakima; 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren; Also surviving are a brother and six sisters, Jack of Lancaster, Pa., Alice Harvey of Bolivar, Zelma Brendlinger of Coudersport, Pa., Helen Wagner of Lancaster, Ginger Fako of Clymer and Carol Sacco of Homer City.

ROBERT S. THOMPSON
Robert S. Thompson, 37, of Bolivar RD 1 died Thursday, Dec. 31, 1987 at Memorial Hospital, Johnstown. He was born Nov. 3, 1950 in Johnstown, a son of Robert L. Thompson of Bolivar RD 1 and the late Nora (McClain) Thompson. He was employed as a coal miner for the Florence Mining Portal No. 2 and was a member of the United Mine Workers Association Union Local No. 1618. In addition to his father he is survived by his wife, Vicky (Deemer) Thompson of Bolivar RD 1; his stepmother, Helen (Donahue) Thompson of Bolivar RD 1; two sisters, Heidi Thompson of Bolivar RD 1 and Pat (Mrs. Douglas) Flickinger of Bolivar RD 1; four brothers, Kerry L. of Robinson, Jeffrey of Greensburg, Joseph and James, both of Bolivar RD 1; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lester Long of Bolivar RD 1; maternal grandmother, Mrs. Rose McClain ; three nephews and several aunts and uncles. Robert L. Thompson
Bluegrass music lover, molder for 35 years at Allegheny Foundry in Bolivar.
Robert L. Thompson, 67, of Bolivar RD 1 died Thursday, March 4, 1999 at Latrobe Area Hospital. Mr. Thompson was one of the original organizers of the first bluegrass music festival in the early 1960's that flourished in this area and all of Western Pennsylvania through the 1970's and 1980's and even to the present day. In the early 1970's he helped found "True Blue Grass", which performed in Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Ohio in the 70's and 80's. He was an avid and accomplished musician, dedicated to this style of acoustic music in its truest form. Born Aug. 29, 1931 in Bolivar, he was the son of the late Ralph Thompson and Leona Muir Thompson Long. He was employed as a molder for 35 years at Allegheny Foundry Bolivar. Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Helen Donahue Thompson; six children, Mrs. Frank (Heidi) Tantlinger, Bolivar, Mrs. Douglas (Patricia) Flickinger, Newville, Pa., Kerry and his wife Delores and James, both of New Florence, Jeffrey, Jacksonville, Fla. and Joseph, Robinson; Also surviving are three grandsons, Eric, Jacob and Alex; Also two brothers, Ralph "Whitey" of New Kensington and Leonard "Andy" Long of Bolivar. He was preceded in death by his step father Lester Long and his son Robert S. J. Paul McCracken Funeral Home, Bolivar, was in charge of funeral arrangements.

Walter Henderson
Walter Wayne Henderson, 58, of Erie, formerly of Bolivar, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 1979, in Lee Hospital, Johnstown. Mr. Henderson was born Oct. 28, 1920, in Fairfield Twp. , a son of the late Walter and Jessie (Baird) Henderson. Mr. Henderson is survived by these sisters; Mrs. Winona Gamble of West Bolivar, and Mrs. Theresa McClure of Bolivar. He made his home with Mrs. Iva Grubbs of Erie. Funeral services were held Tuesday in the Edward J. Speidel Funeral Home, Bolivar, with the Rev. Donald Stanley officiating. Burial was in Fort Palmer Cemetery.

Oliver Henderson
Oliver Henderson, who operated Henderson's Variety Store in Bolivar for 46 years, died Sunday at his home on Market street, Bolivar. He was 70. Funeral services were held Wednesday in Bolivar United Presbyterian Church, of which he was an elder, with Rev. James O. Leitch officiating. The American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars conducted a military service at graveside in Blairsville Cemetery. Kenneth A. Stuart handled the funeral arrangements. Mr. Henderson was born Aug. 19, 1895, in West Wheatfield Twp., son of Armstrong & Matilda Libengood Henderson. He was a veteran of World War I and started the Bolivar store on his return from military service in 1919. He is survived by his widow (the former Lydia McClellan), a son (Donald O. of Bolivar). two daughters (Mrs. Gladys Super of Beaver Falls and Mrs. Mildred Jarrell of Richmond, Ind.) three brothers (Harry and Charles of RD 2, New Florence, and James of California), two sisters (Mrs. Rebecca Fisher of RD 1, New Florence and Mrs. Clara Hostetler of Harrison City), nice grandchildren and a great granddaughter. another son (Edwin R. ) died in Korea in 1951.

Owen H. Henderson, 65, of Bolivar. RD 1, died Friday Nov. 22, 1996 at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Mr. Henderson was born Aug. 15, 1931 in Robinson, West Wheatfield Twp., son of the late Alfred and Emma Foust Henderson. He was a retired driver for R&M Trucking and a member of United Mine Workers Local 1257. Surviving are his wife Esther; sons Hank, Robinson, Paul K. Blairsville RD 1 and Stanley C., Armagh; sisters Marian Ridilla and Florence Shanner, Bolivar, Dorothy Baird, Blairsville RD 1, Jane Robinson, New Florence RD 2 and Helen James, Bolivar RD 1; five grandchildren. Maola R. Henderson, 98, of John 23rd Home, Hermitage, formerly of Derry, died Tuesday, July 13, 1999 at the home. Mrs. Henderson was born July 23, 1900 in Donegal Twp. Westmoreland County, daughter of the late Harry Wilbur and Lala Rager McKlveen. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Sharon. She is survived by her son Richard M. , Hermitage; her daughter Janet Wilkens, Bryen, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter J., whom she married Oct. 17, 1921, and who died May 30, 1981; children Walter Jr., Harry "Bob" and Lala Turnbull; a great granddaughter; her brothers Abb, Pete and Mac. Iva Marguerite Henderson, 81, of New Florence RD 2, died Friday, July 21, 1995 at Lee Hospital, Johnstown. Mrs. Henderson was born July 6, 1914 in West Wheatfield Twp., Indiana County, daughter of the late Bruce and Lottie Lute. Survivors include five children, Norman and his wife Janice New Florence RD 1, Mrs. Charles (Mona) Boring and Mrs. Harry (Beatrice) McKinney, New Florence RD 2, David and his wife Ina, Bolivar and Roland and his wife Leta, Williamsport. Also surviving are 23 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren, her sister Mona Woods of Barnesboro and her daughter-in-law Nataline Flickinger of Bolivar. She was preceded in death by her husband Boyd W. in 1990, her son Bruce, three infant children, a grandson, two great grandchildren, her sisters Pansy Lute and Hyacinth Rowe and her brother Orlo. Services were held Monday at Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, Rev. Wayne Boring officiating. Interment was in Germany Lutheran Cemetery, New Florence.

Walter M. Henderson, 55, of Greensburg, died Monday Oct. 14, 2002 in his home. He was born Nov. 15, 1946, in Derry Twp., a son of the late Clarence and Rose Percha Henderson. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Roman Catholic Church, Greensburg, and was employed as a salesman by Kenny Ross Ford. Surviving are his wife, Arlene P. Lasko Henderson; two sons, Mark S. and his wife Angela, of Latrobe and Aaron M. and his wife, Erin of Bethel Park; a daughter, Alyssa D. of Greensburg; two grandchildren; Also two brothers, "Bob" of Derry and "Buck" of Port Vue; four sisters, Helen "Toots" Pavel of Trenton, Mich., "Libby" McDowell of Derry Twp., Patricia King of Trenton, Mich., and Pauline Harr of Leo, Ind., numerous nieces and nephews. A funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday in Our Lady of Grace Church. Entombment followed in Westmoreland County Memorial park, Hempfield Twp. Debra Ann Henderson, 51, of Bolivar RD 1, died Monday evening, July 11, 2005 in Excela Health Latrobe Area Hospital. She was born April 19, 1954 in Xenia, Ohio, a daughter of Julius C. and H. Delores (Shaulis) Somuk, both of Beaver Creek, Ohio. She had been employed as a custodial matron for the Ligonier Valley Middle School. She attended both the Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Greensburg. Besides her parents, she is survived by her husband of 31 years, Terry; a daughter, Heather, Bolivar RD 1; a son, Christopher, Mesa, Ariz.; a grandson; Also surviving are sisters Barbara Thomas, Heber Heights, Ohio and Rosemary Adams, Dayton, Ohio; brother Joseph, Dayton. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today at McCracken Funeral home in Ligonier, with Pastor Jim Tomb officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Palmer Cemetery, Bolivar. Memorial contributions in her name may be made to Fort Palmer Presbyterian Church.

D. Clifford Henderson, 61, of Ligonier, died Friday Feb., 1, 2002 in his home. He was born Nov. 5, 1940 in Fairfield Twp. Westmoreland County, a son of the late Graham and Nettie Henderson Ankney. He had been a weigh master for R&P Coal, New Florence. He attended Oak Grove Church of Christ. He was former fire chief and recently was named honorary fire chief of Fairfield Fire Co. He was a member of the Ligonier Masons, Westmoreland County Fire Chiefs, the Ligonier Twp. Sportsmen and was a Forest Fire warden. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his stepfather, John E. Ankney, and two sisters, Wilma and Donna. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Sherry L. Pechart Henderson; a son, Kent G. (and wife, Laura) of Ligonier RD 2; a daughter, Mrs. Brian (April) Holzer of Latrobe; a granddaughter; a brother, Ernest, New Florence RD 1. Services were held Monday at the Oak Grove Church of Christ with the Rev. Charles P. Burd officiating. Interment was in the Fort Palmer Cemetery. HENDERSON Frances L., 94, of Bolivar, died Tuesday, April 5, 2005 in UMPC Lee Regional. She was born Oct. 4, 1910, in West Wheatfield Twp. a daughter of the late Oscar and Laura Wakefield Hewitt. Prior to her retirement in 1973 she had been employed by Torrance State Hospital. She was a member of Bolivar United Methodist Church; Robinson American Legion # 128 Ladies Auxiliary; Bolivar American Legion # 9310 Ladies Auxiliary; and she had been a member of Blairsville OES # 166 for over 50 years. She is survived by her daughter, Jean W. Pahach of Bolivar, four grandsons, four great grandsons, three great great granddaughters and a brother, Oscar D. Hewitt of Ligonier. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her grandson, Doug Robertson; two sisters, Julia Stover and Sis Pizzino; and three brothers, James, Keith and Jay Hewitt. Friends will be received Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the J. Paul McCracken Funeral Chapel Inc., 536 Market St., Bolivar. Services will be held at Bolivar United Methodist Church Friday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. R. Kenneth Keiper officiating. Interment will follow in Germany Lutheran Cemetery. Alberta M. Howard, 84, of New Florence RD 2, died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997 at Beacon Manor, Indiana. Mrs. Howard was born Aug. 12, 1912 in Lockport, Westmoreland County , daughter of the late William J. and Sarah Wambaugh Payne. She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, the Laurel Valley Seniors and the Robinson VFW Auxiliary. Surviving are her husband Carl H.; children Elsie and Lois, new Florence RD 2, Mrs. Lester (Gloria) Lichtenfels, Robinson, Thomas Mulligan and wife Sandra, Seward, Mrs. Donald (Barbara) Hough, Latrobe and Norma Brown, Johnstown; Also surviving are 23 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and a great great granddaughter. She was preceded in death by her first husband George H. Mulligan; her brothers William, Joseph, Alvin, Boyd and Clarence; her sister Mildred Frain. Services were held Tuesday at Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, Revs. Allyn Giuffre and Norris Mason officiating. Interment was in Isabelle Cemetery.

Minnie Oralee Howard, 84, New Florence, died Sunday April 14, 2002 at Lee Hospital. Born Feb. 8, 1918 in Ellijay, Ga., daughter of the late Gordon and Frances Bennett Defore. She also was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters. Survivors include her husband of 59 years. Walter Aka "Mule Skinner;" Also children Walter Jr., married to Donna Hauser, Brooksville, Fla.; Dempsey, married to Sheila, and Roland, New Florence; David married to Donna Boltz, Hummelstown; James, Homer City; Frank and friend Nancy Thomas, New Florence; Michael, married to Marilyn Kaufman, Seward; Opal, wife of Gregory Boring, and April, wife of Gary Sisitki, New Florence; Nathan, Johnstown. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, two great grandsons, and a sister, Mary Quinn, Dalton, Ga. A Private memorial service was held. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, was in charge of arrangements.

James P. Hall, 60, of Robinson, died Saturday, Aug. 4, 2001 at home. He was born April 18, 1941 in Robinson, West Wheatfield Twp., a son of Reese and Agnes Barbus Hall. Mr. Hall was a barber in New Florence for over 20 years. He was a member of the Robinson Church of the Brethren. Surviving relatives include his wife of 40 years, Barbara; Also surviving are children James W. and wife Sherri of Homer City, and Francis W. Monty D. and wife Christine and Joy A. all of Robinson; his mother, of Robinson; nine grandchildren; Also surviving are two sisters: Linda Allman of Derry and Gladys Bronick of Export. He was preceded in death by his father. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Kenneth Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence with Pastor Jeff Thomas officiating. Interment was in Germany Lutheran Cemetery.

Gerald Wayne Heming, 73, of New Florence RD 1, died Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002, in Lee Hospital, Johnstown. He was born March 23, 1929, in Huff (Indiana County), a son of the late Paul A. and Agnes G. (Robinson) Heming. Mr. Heming was a member of Germany United Methodist Church, New Florence, and Cambria Masonic Lodge 278, Johnstown. He was a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Corp., Johnstown, where he worked for 36 1/2 years. He was preceded in death by a brother, Cecil R. who died in combat during World War II. Surviving are his wife of 52 years. C. Maxine (Long) Heming; children, Marilyn S. Nesmith and husband, David of New Florence, Todd W. and wife, Shirley (Cramer), of Seward and Brad G. and wife, Toni (Dipofi), of Bolivar; 11 grandchildren; Also a great granddaughter; a brother, Rick and wife, Patricia (Cramer), of Seward; and a sister, June Henderson and husband, Richard, Of New Florence. HEMING, Marjorie A., 73, New Castle, Del., formerly of Seward, died April 22, 1998 in Christina Hospital, Newark, Del. born Sept. 9, 1924, in Seward, daughter of the late Charles and Helen (Mansfield) Brown. Also preceded in death by husband James V. Heming, Jan. 5, 1981; sister, Mary Meyer. Survived by these children, Donna L. Potts, New Castle, Del.; Mary L., wife of Gerald Kevis, West Grove, Pa.; grandchildren: Katherine Potts, Tiffany Camponelli, and James Kevis; and sister Louise, wife of Hubert Adams, New Florence. Sean Michael Heming 15, of Blairsville RD 1, died Thursday, Dec. 15, 1983, in Lee Hospital, Johnstown. Born Sept. 23, 1968, in Indiana, he was a son of Ralph D. and Meredith Wyer Heming. He was in the ninth grade in United High School, where he was a member of the Archery Club. In addition to his parents , he is survived by one brother, Ralph Jr. "Jay" at home; two sisters, Meritt Bealonis of Armagh and Robyn Nikole, at home his paternal grandfather, George F. Heming of Blairsville RD 1; his maternal grandfather, Milton Wyer of Indiana and several aunts and uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday in Richard L. Shoemaker Funeral Home, Blairsville, where services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday. Interment will follow Mount Tabor Cemetery, West Wheatfield Twp.

Vinnie L. Heming, 86, of New Florence, died Dec. 23, 1999 at Bethlen Home, Ligonier. She was born Feb. 26, 1913 in New Florence, daughter of John and Laura Boring Tranquella. She was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, New Florence, and Hood-Vanatt American Legion Post 307 Ladies Auxiliary, New Florence. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, M. Mack Boring; second husband, Thomas H. Heming; two infant daughters, a stepson, Gary Heming; two brothers, Edward and Paul Tranquella, and two sisters, Virginia Pabone and Florence Fiorini. She is survived by a son, Miran R. "Amos" Boring (and his wife, Ruth) of Wickliffe, Ohio; two daughters, Gladys (Mrs. Robert) Caldwell of New Florence RD 1 and Geraldine "Dooker" (Mrs. James) Deemer of New Florence; 10 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; 14 stepchildren and 43 step grandchildren, and numerous step great grandchildren and step great great grandchildren; and five sisters, Alice Adams of Latrobe, Rose McClain of Robinson, Gladys Fiorini of Loyalhanna, Edna Blumeister of Amherst, Ohio, and Dorothy Butler of Latrobe. Funeral service was held Tuesday at Kenneth A. Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, with the Rev. Florence Wood officiating. Burial was in Bethel Cemetery.

HOWARD Joyce, 68, Rockville, Md., formerly of Seward, died Jan. 29, 1999, at home. Born Oct. 25, 1930. Preceded in death by parents, Gladis and Merlyn Anderson, and by brother, David Anderson. Survived by husband, Clayton "Red" Howard, formerly of Johnstown; and children; Cindy Hemenway, Bruce Howard, Beth Schjolin, Amy Stewardson and Phillip Howard, and sister, Dorothy Jean Smith, formerly of Seward. Robert R. Howard, 46, of Latrobe, formerly of New Florence RD1, died Wednesday, Feb. 17 1993 at Presbyterian University Hospital, Pittsburgh. Mr. Howard a former employee of Steiner's Foundry, Latrobe, was born March 3, 1946 in Johnstown, son of Jessie Vickroy Howard, New Florence RD 1, and the late Robert A. Howard. Survivors other than his mother include his wife Glenda Kisamore Howard; three sons, John, New Florence, and Robert and Bryan, Latrobe; two sisters, Marion Baldwin, Pasadena, Md. and Patricia Lundregan, College park, Md. Services were held Friday at Stuart Funeral Home, New Florence, Rev. R. Kenneth Keiper officiating. Interment followed in Fairfield Cemetery
