The couple observed their 48th wedding anniversary Dec. 23. The service will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Geiple Funeral Home Inc., 53 Main St., Glen Rock. Burial will be in St. Jacob's "Stone" Church Cemetery, Glenville. Viewing will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Mr. Beard was born Oct. 28, 1931, in Blue Island, Ill. He was the son of the late Elmer J. and Elizabeth B. (Kraft) Beard. He worked Wehrly's Auction in Glen Rock and also farmer. He retired from York Concrete Septic Tanks in 1993 after 25 years of service; prior to that, he worked for the former International Paper Mill of York Haven for 17 years. He was a member of United Church of Christ Congregation of St. Jacob's "Stone" Church in Glenville, Teamsters Local 430 in York, the teamsters retiree club and Menges Mills Historic Horse, Steam and Gas Engine Association. Mr. Beard also is survived by five sons, Robert W. Beard and Dean B. Beard, both of Glen Rock, Dale R. Beard of York, Thomas C. Beard of Spring Grove and James M. Beard of Jacobus; a daughter, Gloria D. Reaver of Hanover; 14 grandchildren; and five sisters, Mary Thoman of Glen Rock, Emma Shoff of Red Lion, Sadie Barbour of Brogue, Elizabeth Miles and Eleanor Fitzkee, both of York. She was a daughter of the late John Curtis Stambaugh and B. Margaret Forney Stambaugh; and a stepdaughter of the late Susan Adalade Whitmore Stambaugh. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Taneytown Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary. Mrs. Eckard is survived by a brother, John William (Bill) Stambaugh of Keymar, Md.; three grandchildren; and two great-granddaughters. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Hanover and a lifelong affiliation with J.C. Penney. Mr. Ewing also is survived by a sister, Sarah Miller of Columbus, Ohio.

The Harkins Funeral Home, 600 Main St., Delta, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Jones was born Aug. 29, 1915, in Delta. He was the son of the late Hugh D. and Alva (Fries) Jones. He worked for the Veterans Administration, Bureau of Indian Affairs, retiring from the Department of Defense in 1972 after 30 years of service. He was a volunteer with the Delta-Cardiff Volunteer Fire Company. He was a member of St. John's Lodge 11 Free and Accepted Masons in Washington, D.C., where he held several positions within the lodge, Chevy Chase United Methodist Church and an affiliate member of Slateville Presbyterian Church in Delta. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. Mr. Jones also is survived by a daughter, Barbara A. Blackistone Younker of La Plata, Md.; two grandsons; and three nieces. She attended Yorktowne Chapel. Mrs. Woodring is survived by three sons, Joseph Woodring and James Woodring, both of York and Dwayne E. Woodring of Dover; five daughters, Joann I. Dejong, Jacqueline W. Royer, Brenda L. Reinecker, Wendy S. Woodring, all of York and Joan L. McDermott of Clearfield; twelve grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Donald Fishel of Dallastown; and four sisters, Elizabeth Swartz of Crossroads, Mary McClane of New Freedom, Ruth Gladfelter of Seven Valleys and Janelle Waltemyer of Loganville. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. John S. Oldfield, pastor of Yorktowne Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Workinger-Semmel Funeral Home Inc., 849 E. JACOBUS - Stewart E. "Slim" Arnold, 90, of Jacobus, died at 9:21 p.m. Thursday at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Gladys E. (Bupp) Arnold. The service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin St., Jacobus. Burial will be in Susquehanna Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church. The J.J. Hartenstein Mortuary Inc., 24 Second St., New Freedom, is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Arnold was born Feb. 2, 1910, in Tolna, Hopewell Township. He was the son of the late William and Ida (Lerew) Arnold. He was a meat cutter/butcher for Sechrist Brothers Butcher Shop in Dallastown, retiring in 1995 after 45 years of service; prior to that, he worked at the former Sechrist-Faulkomer Butcher Shop in York for 10 years. He was a member of Salem United Church of Christ in Jacobus; a charter member of the Springfield Sportsman's Club; and past secretary/treasurer of the church. Mr. Arnold is survived by three daughters, Joan A. Waltemeyer of Jacobus, Marilyn L. Bosley of York New Salem and Linda King of York; six grandchildren; six great-grandsons; three brothers, Carl Arnold and Sterling Arnold, both of York and Earl Arnold of Seven Valleys; and two sisters, Laura Allison of Glen Rock and Mary Schaefer of York. Officiating at the service will be his pastor, the Rev. Fred A. Walthour. Memorial contributions may be made to Salem United Church of Christ, 24 Franklin St., Jacobus 17407.

HANOVER - Pauline L. Bankert, 81, of Hanover, died at 2:40 p.m. Thursday at Hanover Hospital. She was the wife of Elwood C. Bankert, who died March 22, 1987. The service will be 2 p.m. Sunday at the Kenworthy Funeral Home Inc., 269 Frederick St., Hanover. Burial will be in St. Paul's (Dub's) Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hanover. Visitation will be 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Mrs. Bankert was born May 7, 1918, in Brodbecks. She was the daughter of the late James M. and Mabel I. (Bailey) Shearer. She was a member of St. Paul's (Dub's) Lutheran Church in Hanover. Mrs. Bankert is survived by a son, Rodger P. Bankert of Hanover; four daughters, Charlotte M. Bolin, Brenda B. Masenheimer, Dian E. Wisotzkey, all of Hanover and Carolyn L. Myers of Thomasville; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Stewart Shearer of Hanover; and a sister, Frances Shearer of Hanover. Officiating at the service will be her pastor, the Rev. Marshall H. Gante.
