CATHERINE E. BRUNNER
Catherine E. “Kit” Brunner, 94, formerly of New Bloomfield, died Sunday, March 2, 2003 in Cumberland Crossings Retirement Community, Carlisle.

She was born Feb. 10, 1909 in Huntingdon County to the late Edward and Mary (Garman) Casner.

She was a member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church and Mahoney Rebecca Lodge 428, New Bloomfield; a charter member of Perry Chapter 459, Order of Eastern Star; and enjoyed crafts and cooking.

She was the widow of John S. “Bud” Brunner.

Surviving are a daughter, Fay L. Bruaw of St. Thomas; two brothers, James Casner and Leo Casner, both of Newport; two grandchildren, Karen L. Schock and Michael H. Bruaw II; a great-granddaughter, Kara Schock; and two stepgreat-grandsons, Tyler and Travis Schock.

Services were held March 5 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Roz Mason officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

JUANITA M. DESANTIS
Juanita M. DeSantis, 77, of Duncannon, and formerly of Wormleysburg, died Saturday, March 1, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born Nov. 26, 1925 in Harrisburg to the late Charles and Pebeco (Blessing) Sload.

She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church and National Association of Retired Federal Employees, Chapter 1816, Mechanisburg; and a life member of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 340 and West Shore Chapter 50, Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.

She was the widow of Frank J. DeSantis.

Surviving are several cousins, nieces and nephews.

Services were held at Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill.

Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

ROY N. SPICHER
Roy N. Spicher, 75, of Duncannon died Saturday, March 1, 2003 at Stonebridge Health & Rehab Center, Duncannon.
He was born Sept. 23, 1927 in Liverpool Twp. to the late Lee and Cora (Mengel) Spicher.

He was employed by Wagman Inc., York.

Surviving are his wife, Emma Kitner Spicher; a daughter, Ann Zimmerman, and a son, Norman, both of Mt. Pleasant Mills; two stepdaughters, Diane Kunkle of Marysville and Audrey Peters of Elliottsburg; a stepson, Wayne Hollenbach of Millmont; two sisters, Nancy Pannebaker of Loysville and Shirley Groff of Newport; two brothers, Luther of New Buffalo and Stanley of Ickesburg; four grandchildren; and three stepgrandchildren.

A graveside service was held March 4 in Union Cemetery, Duncannon, with the Rev. B. Michael Brossman officiating.

Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

MILDRED E. COX
Mildred E. Cox, 95, formerly of N. Fourth Street, Newport, died Saturday, March 8, 2003 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

She was born Sept. 26, 1907 in Millerstown to the late Hiram S. and Elsie (Sowers) Burd.

She had worked for the former slip factory in Newport; was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Newport, Perry Chapter 459, Order of Eastern Star, and Newport Garden Club; and enjoyed needlework and gardening.

She was the widow of Lewis E. Cox.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Mary C. Moore of Lititz; three stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a stepson, Robert L. Cox.

Services were held March 11 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Roz Mason officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

RUTH E. FOREMAN
Ruth Elizabeth “Gert” Foreman, 85, of Circle Drive, Liverpool, died Thursday, Feb. 27, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born Feb. 14, 1918 at Everett, Bedford County, to the late Raymond G. and Virginia (Baylor) Clark.

She retired as an examiner in 1957 from Eileen Hope Manufacturing Co., Liverpool and Duncannon; was educated at Earlston Grammar School; a Protestant; a member of Liverpool Ambulance League; and enjoyed socializing with friends and family, shopping excursions and dining out at restaurants.

She was the widow of John M. Foreman, who died Dec. 27, 1998.

Surviving are two sons, John F. of Liverpool and Donald E., at home; 10 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Angela Foreman, who died in 1988.

Services were held March 2 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with pastor Daniel H. Jordan officiating. Burial was in St. John (Barner’s) Lutheran Cemetery, Liverpool RR 1.

LORETTA L. HAVENS
Loretta L. Havens, 82, formerly of Willingboro, N.J., died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at the home of her daughter Loretta and son-in-law Homer Gelbaugh, Sugar Run Road, Millerstown.

She was born Oct. 7, 1920 in Bath, Northhampton County, to the late Joseph and Mary (Mally) Fitzgibbon.

She was a retired executive secretary from AMP Inc., and a former employee of Naval Supply Depot in Philadelphia; a cosmetologist, graduating from Essex County Vocational School, New Jersey and the L’Oreal School of Cosmetology in Paris, France; a 30-year member of Corpus Christi Parish, Willingboro, where she was an active member of the Widows Group; a Girl Scout leader; and an accomplished seamstress, dollhouse enthusiast, wedding cake designer and an organist.

She was the widow of Charles P. Havens, who died in 1982.

In addition to her daughter and son-in-law, surviving are two brothers, Joseph Fitzgibbon of Hadley, Mass., and Robert Fitzgibbon of Edgewood, N.M.; two sisters, Veronica Chesterton of Doylestown and Eleanor Stafnack of Easton; three grandchildren, David, Dr. Michael and Steven Bosak; three stepgrandsons, Jeffrey, Douglas and John Gelbaugh; and four great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Alan Bosak.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated March 6 in St. Bernard Catholic Church, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Robert Sharman officiating. Burial was in Gethsemane Cemetery, Easton.

Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, handled arrangements.

NANCY R. GOUFFER
Nancy R. Gouffer, 51, of New Bloomfield died Thursday, March 6, 2003 in New Bloomfield.

She was born April 29, 1951 in Canton, Pa.

She formerly was employed with McNees, Wallace and Nurick, Harrisburg, as a billing clerk, and a 1969 graduate of Sullivan County High School and 1973 graduate of Mansfield State University.

Surviving are her husband of 26 years, Leonard Gouffer; her parents, Janice and LaVerne Rinker of Hillsgrove; four brothers, Jack Rinker of Muncy, Gene Rinker of Williamsport, and Matt Rinker and Chris Rinker, both of Hillsgrove.

Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Visiting Nurses Association of Pennsylvania, 3315 Derry St., Harrisburg 17111.

MICHAEL J. HUNT
Michael J. “Pap” Hunt, 81, of New Bloomfield RR 1 died Saturday, March 8, 2003 at his Centre Twp. home.

He was born Dec. 2, 1921 in Philadelphia to the late Michael and Mary (Gehr) Hunt.

He was retired from the 30th Street Post Office in Philadelphia and was an Army veteran of World War II.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

ELEANOR E. SPOTTS
Eleanor E. Spotts, 92, formerly of Little Buffalo Road, Newport, died Monday, Feb. 24, 2003 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

She was born May 20, 1910 in Chambersburg to the late William and Maude (Smith) Freet.

She was retired from the former Newport Dress Factory.

She was the widow of Clyde E. Spotts.

Surviving are a son, James of Newport; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clarence E.

A graveside service was held Feb. 28 in Newport Cemetery.

Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

WILLIAM A. STONE
William A. Stone, 88, of Wertzville Road, Carlisle, died Monday, March 3, 2003 at home.

He was born Jan. 27, 1915 at New Bloomfield RR 1 to the late Charles E. and Nancy J. (Ott) Stone.

He was retired from the Pennsylvania Department of General Services, Harrisburg; an Army veteran of World War II; and a member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church, New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463 and American Legion Post 340, Duncannon.

Surviving are his wife, Mabel M. Stokes Stone; a daughter, Carol A. Kallenberger of Duncannon; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held March 7 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Revs. Roz Mason and Darrel Justh officiating. Burial, with military honors by New Bloomfield VFW and Newport American Legion, was in Blain Cemetery.

BARBARA A. LAWLOR
Barbara A. Lawlor, 64, of Old Ferry Road, Millerstown, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 at home.

She was born July 13, 1938 in Nassau County, N.Y., to the late Charles and Genevieve (Lockwood) Kneff.

She was a secretary with the Greenwood School District, Millerstown; a member of Perry Valley Presbyterian Church, Millerstown; and enjoyed doing crafts.

Surviving are her husband, Donald E. Lawlor; a son, Thomas E. of Camp Hill; a daughter, Erinne A. Aicher of Pottstown; two sisters, Patricia Gillick of Merrick, N.Y., and Linda Lilley of New Jersey; and two grandchildren, Madison and Morgan Aicher.

Services were held March 8 in her church with the Rev. Nancy McClure officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery.

MILDRED E. SWARTZ
Mildred E. Swartz, 81, of Gantt Street, Newport, died Tuesday, March 4, 2003 in Harrisburg Hospital.

She was born Oct. 30, 1921 in Juniata County to the late Cloyd and Derma (Lauver) Swartz.

She retired from the Newport Dress Factory; was a member of Incarnation United Church of Christ, Newport; and a life member of Greenwood Grange 1852.

Surviving are a sister, Arlene S. Kline, and a nephew, Elwood G. Kline, both of Lemoyne.

Services were held March 8 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
