MILDRED E. ELLERMAN
Mildred E. Ellerman, 76, of Meeting House Road, Carlisle, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2003 at home.

She was born Thursday, Feb. 24, 1927, in Carlisle to the late Andrew F. and Della Mae (Morrison) Morrison.

She formerly worked part-time for Robbins Flowers, Carlisle; attended Carlisle High School and Carlisle Commercial College; was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Carlisle, where she was a member of the Ruth Circle, and Carlisle Garden Club; and enjoyed gardening, floral arranging and craft shows.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Dean W. Ellerman Sr. of Carlisle; a son, Dean W. Jr. of Navarre, Fla.; a daughter, Linda S. Spease of Carlisle; a sister, Della M. Walters of Boiling Springs; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by six brothers, Archie, Robert, Chester, Roy, Grant and Teddie Morrison; and three sisters, Martha Wagner, Anna Boyer and Emma Hefflefinger.

Services were held Sept. 22 in her church with the Revs. Eric J. Shafer and Sharonn Halderman officiating. Burial was in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle.

Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle handled arrangements.

MARGARET G. MACKEY
Margaret G. Mackey, 77, of Spring Road, Shermans Dale, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 in Harrisburg Hospital.

She was born Nov. 11, 1925 in North Middleton Twp. to the late Raymond R. and Ethel (King) Dick, and resided most of her life in Cumberland County.

She was a former employee of the Carlisle Shoe Company and she and her husband owned the Mackey Roller Rink, 3780 Spring Road, for 26 years, retiring in 1982. She was a Protestant.

Surviving are her husband of 58 years, Frank E. Mackey; two sons, Terry L. of Carlisle and Dennis R. of Boston, Mass.; two daughters, Barbara A. Minich and Joyce A. Hair, both of Shermans Dale; two sisters, Beulah Adams of Carlisle and Sarah Dick of Burlington, Vt.; and a granddaughter, Shelby A. Minich of Shermans Dale.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harvey Dick, and a sister, Dorothy Scott.

Services were held Sept. 30 in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, with the Rev. Richard A. Ruff officiating. Burial was in Westminister Cemetery.

NINA L. SHATTO
Nina Lee Shatto, 64, of Duncannon died Monday, Sept. 22, 2003 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born Dec. 14, 1938 in Duncannon to the late Earl and Adele (Martin) Graybill.

She formerly was employed by the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture and was retired from Duncannon Assembly of God Day Care; a graduate of Thompson Institute, Harrisburg; and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Duncannon, and attended Zion Lutheran Church, Dauphin.

Surviving are her husband, Roy C. Shatto; a son, Andrew R. Shatto of Duncannon; two daughters, Shannon S. Ford of Harrisburg and Laura J. Shatto of Duncannon; and two granddaughters, Susie R. Ewing and Emily D. Ewing.

She was preceded in death by a son, Kevin E. Ewing, and two brothers, Guy and Donald Graybill.

Services were held Sept. 25 in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Dr. Randolph W. Barr officiating. Burial was in Duncannon Cemetery.

FLOYD O. CRUM
Floyd O. Crum, 82, of Enola and formerly of Duncannon, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at home.

He was born May 16, 1921 at Colonial Park to the late William Fox Sr. and Margaret (Owens) Crum.

He was a retired employee of Triangle Press, Inc.; and a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Duncannon, and Duncannon Sportsmen’s Club.

Surviving are a sister-in-law, Mary Lou Crum of Enola, with whom he resided; a sister, Martha M. Webner of Duncannon; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at noon, Thursday, Oct. 2, in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon, with pastor Paul Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Shoop’s Garden of Rest, Colonial Park.

Viewing is from 11 a.m. to noon, Thursday.

HELEN M. EPPLEY
Helen M. Eppley, 90, of Lincoln Street, Duncannon, died Friday, September 26, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital.

She was born July 27, 1913 in Duncannon to the late Peter and Sara (Bell) Lehman.

She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Duncannon Alumni Association and Duncannon Golden Age Club; and a 1932 graduate of Duncannon High School.

Surviving are two sons, S. Frank Eppley, with whom she lived, and James A. Eppley of Halifax; and two grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 30 in Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. W. Michael Brossman officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Duncannon.

BECKY MCGILL
Becky “Bessie McGill, 77, died Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2003 at Christiana Hospital, Wilmington, Del.

She worked several years as a bartender and wait staff at Fairfax Cocktail Lounge and was an avid bowler, diehard Phillies fan, bingo and card player and enjoyed traveling.

She was the widow of Robert Whibley, who died in 1999, and Robert McGill, who died in 1993.

Surviving are two daughters, Barbara Clouser of Newark, Del. and Lisa Carr of Bear, Del.; a son, Robert Clouser of Rising Sun, Md.; a brother, Walter Stydinger of Newport; two sisters, Virginia Harris of New Bloomfield and Pearl Hoffert of Oley, Pa.; a granddaughter, Cynthia Grubb of North East, Md.; and two great-grandchildren, Joshua and Brittany Grubb; and her first husband, Irvin Clouser of Blandon, Pa.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Stydinger.

A graveside service was held Sept. 22 in Wila Cemetery, Newport.

McCrery Funeral Homes, Wilmington, Del., handled arrangements.

MARK E. ZIMMERMAN
Mark E. Zimmerman, 89, of Linton Hill Road, Duncannon, died Friday, Sept. 19, 2003 at Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born Nov. 6, 1913 in Carsonville to the late Alvin and Carrie (Klinger) Zimmerman.

He was retired from U.G.I., Harrisburg; a lifetime member of Dauphin County Fireman’s Association; and enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening.

Surviving are his wife, Mildred A. Dowell Zimmerman; a daughter, Dorothy Stambaugh of Duncannon; a brother, Herbert of Carsonville; and two granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Sam, Ralph, Norman, John and Raymond; and a sister, Mary Shoop.

Services were held Sept. 24 in Hoover Funeral Home, Elizabethville. Burial was in St. James Cemetery, Halifax.

ALICE C. DEPPEN
Alice C. Deppen, 79, of Duncannon died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 at home.

She was born July 17, 1924 in Duncannon to the late Daniel and Violet (Roberts) Bornman.

She was the widow of Charles G. Deppen.

Surviving are her children, Barry L. Bornman of Evans, Ga., Kathryn D. Simoncelli of Lockport, La., Jo Ann Deppen of Steelton, Thomas H. Deppen of Duncannon and Jenifer L. Voorhees of Dillsburg; a brother, James Bornman Sr. of Duncannon; a sister, Nancy Miller of Middletown; 11 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.

A graveside service was held Sept. 29 in Union Cemetery, Duncannon, with the Rev. Paul Kauffman officiating.

MILDRED M. FARRELL
Mildred M. “Millie” Farrell, 84, formerly of Lower Paxton Twp., died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at Spring Creek Center, Harrisburg.

She was born May 2, 1919 to the late Charles P. Sr. and Anna (Backus) Wagner of Marysville.

She worked at the former City Line Diner on Paxton Street and retired from AMP (now Tyco) as a billing clerk; a graduate of the former Marysville High School; a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Harrisburg; and enjoyed walking and gardening.

Surviving are three sons, Charles F. of Wayne and Eugene P. and Gary L., both of Harrisburg; a brother, C. Pierce Wagner of Arlington, Va.; a sister, Audrey I. Hite of Marysville; three grandsons, Ryan, Colin and Brandon Farrell, all of Wayne, and a granddaughter, Sarah Farrell of Dauphin.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Edward L. Wagner of Philadelphia; and two sisters, Anna Mae Gottschall of Susquehanna Twp. and Maxine B. Cartright of Florida.

Services were held Oct. 1 in Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.

GLENN S. ROTH
Glenn S. Roth, 51, of Carroll Twp., New Bloomfield, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2003 at home.

He was born April 28, 1952 in Allentown to the late Wilson and Eleanor (Seyfried) Roth.

He worked for Gannett Fleming Inc. in Camp Hill; had attended the Newport Presbyterian Church; and enjoyed farming, hunting, gardening and was an avid NASCAR fan.

Surviving are his wife, Debra Grabuloff Roth; two daughters, Lynelle L. Roth and Carrie Ann Roth, both of Harrisburg; a sister, Linda K. Faber of Harrisonburg, Va.; and close friends, Jerrie and Susan Klingman of Newport.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Karen L. Roth.

Services were held Sept. 30 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with pastor James Peneca officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Harrisburg.

WINIFRED C. STRAUB
Winifred C. Straub, 80, formerly of Marysville, died Thursday, Sept. 25, 2003 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, Marysville, where she was a member of the church choir and served as sexton; and volunteered at the Marysville Lions Club, helping with the preparation of dinners.

She was the widow of Stanley L. Straub.

Surviving are two daughters, Phyllis J. Brooks of Marysville and Janet L. Wallace of Harrisburg; two sons, Ronald L. of Tempe, Ariz., and Terry E. of Denver, Pa.; two sisters; a brother; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Services were held Sept. 22 in her church. Burial was in Rolling Green Memorial Park, Camp Hill.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

H. JEAN ALTON
H. Jean Alton, 76, of Avenue D, Fort Madison, Iowa died Tuesday Oct. 14, 2003 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa.

She was born Dec. 31, 1926 at Blain to the late L. Miles and Sarah Irene (Rishel) Bower. She was a resident of Fort Madison since 1954.

She was a retired schoolteacher and taught the family living program at Fort Madison High School for 20 years. Prior to Fort Madison, she taught at high schools in Green Park, Pa., Lytton, Iowa, and Reinbeck, Iowa. She was graduate of Pennsylvania State University, receiving a B.S. degree in home economics education.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Fort Madison, Search Light Study Club and the Old Fort Players; and a volunteer for Lee County Health Department Hospice.

She was a host mother for the American Field Service (A.F.S.), hosting five students: Peter Copping of New Zealand, Zhao Xiong of China, Manuel Berroteran of Venezuela, Diana Gonzalez of Venezuela and Kumar Wickramasingha of Sri Lanka, now of Fort Madison.

She was the widow of George P. Alton, who died Feb. 20, 1997. They were married June 25, 1950 in State College.

Surviving are four daughters, Liza Alton (husband Dennis Seyb) of Donnellson, Iowa, Lucy Alton (husband Rolando Garcia) of Rockville, Md., Amy Alton-Stonebrook (husband Lee Stonebrook) and Katy (husband Dennis) Anderson, both of Clinton, Iowa; a brother, Benjamin Bower of Blain; five sisters, Sally Zimmerer of Glen Rock, Barbara Bingaman of State College, Nancy Brown of Bowie, Md., Mileen Altier of Doylestown and Katheryn Watto of Cresco, Pa.; three sisters-in-law, Ann Alton of Iowa City, Martha Tjornehoj, of Loveland, Colo., and Donna Bower of Blain; and nine grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Clark Bower, and a grandson, Christopher Anderson.

Services were held Oct. 20 in her church with the Rev. Gordon Lundberg officiating. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, rural Fort Madison.

Barr Memorial Chapel, Fort Madison, handled arrangements.
