REV. DR. VICTOR B. HANN
Rev. Dr. Victor Blake Hann, 101, of Bethany Village, Mechan-icsburg, died Saturday, Jan. 24, 2004 in Harrisburg Hospital.

He was born April 3, 1902 in Clearfield to the late Edward Porter and Alice (Hopfer) Hann.

He retired in 1971 from the Methodist Home for Children, Mechanicsburg, where he served as superintendent for 29 years with his wife, Muriel, caring for 375 children. Prior to that, he served as pastor of the New Bloomfield Methodist Church from 1926 to 1930; Martinsburg Methodist Church from 1930 to 1932; St. Paul’s in Harrisburg from 1932 to 1935, while also serving as chaplain to the Vine Street Fire Company; Watsontown Methodist Church from 1935 to 1939, while also serving as director of the Watsontown Community Band; and Grove Memorial and Lake Park Methodist churches in Lewistown from 1939 to 1942. After retirement, he served as pastor of Dellville, Roseglen and Snyder’s Methodist churches from 1972 to 1974, and pastor of Barnitz and Mt. Zion churches from 1982 to 1983.

He was a 1924 graduate of Dickinson Seminary, Williamsport, and a 1928 graduate of Dickinson College, Carlisle, where he was a member of Alpha Chi Rho fraternity and director of the Dickinson College Band. During that time he also served as pastor of Boiling Springs and Hickorytown United Methodist churches.

He was elected president of the National Board of Methodist Hospitals and Homes from 1966 to 1967 and received an honorary doctorate from Lycoming College in 1969. In 1997, he was made honorary chairman for fund-raising for Mechanicsburg Area Library and had a street, Hann Way, named in his honor.

He had been a member of the Mechanicsburg Library Board and boards of both the East and West Shore YMCAs, and had been a 57-year member and past district governor of the Rotary Club. In April 2002, friends and relatives celebrated his 100th birthday with him, and in 2003 alumni of the children’s home hosted his 101st birthday party.

He was the widower of Muriel Flexer Hann, who died Aug. 6, 1989. They were married for 61 years.

Surviving are a daughter, Victoria Hann Reynolds of Monterey, Calif.; a sister, Ruth Hann Bubb Neff of Williamsport; a grandson, Dr. Jeffrey Hann Reynolds of Bethesda, Md.; and nephews, Frederick Bubb of Mechanicsburg and Ronald Ertel of Ventura, Calif.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 10, in Bloomfield Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Feb. 16, in Camp Hill Methodist Church.

Myers-Harner Funeral Home, Camp Hill, handled arrangements.

D. VIVIAN BRYNER
D. Vivian Bryner, 86, of Port Royal, formerly of Duncannon, died Saturday, Jan. 31 2004 at Lewistown Hospital.

She was born May 19, 1917 at Spruce Hill, Juniata County, to the late James Edgar and Mabel Irene (McMullen) Bryner.

She was a retired elementary school teacher with 40 years of service, having taught at Duncannon and later at Susquenita Elementary School; a 1936 graduate of Port Royal High School and a 1949 graduate of Shippensburg State Teachers College; and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Duncannon, where she played the piano and was a member of the church choir.

Surviving are a brother, Gerald Bud Bryner of Port Royal, and three nephews and three nieces.

She was preceded in death by three brothers.

Services were held Feb. 4 in Rex Funeral Home, Port Royal, with the Rev. Kenneth R. Kitzmiller officiating. Burial was in New Church Hill Cemetery, Port Royal.

PAULINE E. HELLER
Pauline Elizabeth Heller, 76, of Plainfield died Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was born June 14, 1927 to the late Edgar Floyd and Bertha Bell (Fulton) Brownawell.

She was a volunteer for The Perry Historians.

She was the widow of Arthur Clayton Heller, who died March 10, 1994.

Surviving are a son, Donald C. of Shermans Dale; a daughter, Donna J. Zinn of Newville; two brothers, George and William Brownawell, both of Newville; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Richard Brownawell.

Services were held Jan. 31 in Egger Funeral Home, Newville. Burial was in Westminster Cemetery, Carlisle.

WARREN C. FLETCHER
Warren C. Fletcher, 72, of Blain, formerly of Columbia, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004 at Hospice of Central Pennsylvania Carolyn Croxton Slane Residence, Harrisburg.

He was born July 28, 1931 in Columbia to the late Paul E. and Mary Elizabeth (Clark) Fletcher.

He was a custodian in West Perry schools for 15 years and also tended bar at Red Rose Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2435 in Columbia and the former Rising Sun Hotel; and an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting.

Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Janet Krow Fletcher; six sons, Warren Fletcher Jr. of Mount Joy, Filbert Culp III, Russell Culp and Edwin Culp, all of Columbia, Dennis Culp of Lebanon County and Bernard Culp of Marietta; seven daughters, Donna of New York, Susan McCredie of East Prospect, Sharon Flinchbaugh and Sheila Loreto, both of Columbia, Sandra Chronister of Wrightsville, Sheena Hutchinson of Felton and Mary Sauder of Loysville; a brother, Dale of New Germantown; 19 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, Todd.

Services were held Jan. 26 in John E. Kraft Funeral Home, Columbia, with the Rev. Richard E. Grant officiating. Burial was in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens.

C. KENNETH GRUBB
C. Kenneth Grubb, 86, of Mechanicsburg died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004 at his home in Messiah Village.

He was retired from Travelers Insurance Company; an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific; and a member of Shiremanstown United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of Pennsylvania Masonic Grand Lodge F&AM.

He was the widower of Sylvia E. Baker Grubb, who died June 18, 2001.

Surviving are eight nieces and 12 nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers and a sister.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Feb. 5, in his church. Burial will be in Perry Valley Cemetery, Liverpool.

Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday in the church.

Neill Funeral Home, Camp Hill, is handling arrangements.

ERNESTINE MCILROY
Ernestine “Ernie” Snyder McIlroy died Dec. 26, 2003 at the Manor of Whitehall, Columbus, Ohio.

She was the widow of Robert McIlroy.

Surviving are two daughters, Sue Clark and Cindy Snyder; seven grandchildren, Tim Clark, Todd Clark, Michael Clark, Greg Lindsey, Dawn Benson, Rob Lindsey and Theresa Speakman; a companion, Donald Sprague; a dear friend, Roye Wise; and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant son.

A service was held Jan. 9 in Newcomer-Farley Funeral Home, Columbus, Ohio.

EVELYN G. HOCKENBROCH
Evelyn Gertrude Hockenbroch, 89, formerly of Liverpool, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004 in Nipple Convalescent Home, Liverpool.

She was born Feb. 24, 1914 at Locust Run, Juniata County, to the late John Wesley and Mary E. “Emma” (Smith) Criley.

She was a member of Liverpool United Methodist Church and the Methodist Women’s organization of the church; an accomplished quilter; and enjoyed sewing, tatting, gardening and playing the piano.

She was the widow of Paul Leroy Hockenbroch, who died June 13, 1973.

Surviving are two daughters, Donna Lou Sheaffer and Sylvia Lee Stamm, both of Liverpool; a granddaughter, Louann Cramer of Hershey; two great-grandchildren, Myla and Andrew Cramer; a niece, B. Isuphena Brookhart; and a nephew, Robert R. Criley.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly; two brothers, Ray and Gerald Criley; and a son-in-law, Lewis Sheaffer, who died Aug. 5, 1996.

Services were held Feb. 1 in her church with the Rev. Lisa K. Klinger officiating. Burial was in Barner’s (St. John) Lutheran Cemetery, Liverpool RR 1.

Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.

STEWART S. YOUNG
Stewart S. Young, 88, of Duncannon died Friday, Jan. 30, 2004.

He retired as postmaster of the Duncannon Post Office; was a veteran of World War II; and a member of Asbury United Methodist Church, Duncannon, Newport Lodge 381 F&AM, and a charter member of Millerstown VFW 5040.

Surviving are his wife, Leona Witmer Young; two daughters, Betsy A. Strayer and Linda A. Hite, both of Duncannon; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.

HERMAN F. KINTER
Herman F. Kinter, 89, of Newport, formerly of Dauphin, died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004 at Community Osteopathic Hospital, Harrisburg.

He retired from Vibra Tech Engineers; was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving a battlefield commission under Gen. Mark Clark; a graduate of William Penn High School and Penn State University; and a member of Calvary United Methodist Church.

He was the widower of Betty Kinter.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

Services were held Jan. 26 in Hetrick Funeral Home, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Dr. Ronald Parks officiating. Burial was in Fairview Presbyterian Cemetery, Glen Moore.

MARY L. SADLER
Mary L. Sadler, 73, of Marysville and Callawassie Island, S.C., died Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004 at her Marysville home.

She was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Marysville, and an avid golfer who was a member of the Carlisle Country Club and Callawassie Island Country Club.

Surviving are her husband, Robert J. Sadler; a son, R. Michael of Camp Hill; two daughters, Linda S. Sweger of Red Lion and Teresa A. Cline of Atlanta, Ga.; a brother, Van Painter of Seattle, Wash.; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Toomey; a brother, William Painter; and a grandson.

A memorial service was held Jan. 31 in her church.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

ADA K. ROSS
Ada K. Hearn Ross, 79, of Marysville died Saturday, March 20, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, Rye Twp.

Surviving are her husband of 63 years, David W. Ross; a son, Larry D. of Enola; three daughters, Jean Gettle of New Buffalo, Joann Nicholson of Hawaii and Kathy Kegris of Enola; a brother, Charles Hearn of Georgia; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Services were held March 27 in Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville. Burial was in Mt. Gilead Cemetery, Carroll Twp.
