HELEN I. STEES
Helen I. “Arlene” Stees, 74, of Marysville died Sunday, May 23, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was a retired fashion designer from the former Quaker Dress Co., Harrisburg, and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Marysville.

Surviving are her husband, George M. Stees Sr.; three sons, George M. Jr. and Richard E., both of Marysville, and Jeffry R. of Duncannon; a sister, Shirley F. Rogers of W. Lafayette, Ind.; four brothers, Kenneth A. Rowe Sr. of Marysville, Paul E. Rowe of Se-bastian, Fla., Donald R. Rowe of Harrisburg and Norman W. Rowe of Newark, Del.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Michael W.

Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

HENRY E. BAILOR
Henry Edward “Sonny” Bailor, 80, of Richfield RR 1, West Perry Twp., Snyder County, died Friday, May 21, 2004 in Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born March 16, 1924 at Millerstown to the late George Marshal “G.M.” and Catherine Marie (Brown) Bailor.

He retired in 1985 after 35 years of employment for PP&L, Harrisburg, as a field mechanic, and previously was employed by Snap On Tools, Newport; educated in Millerstown schools; an Army veteran; affiliated with Stony Run Mission Church, McAlisterville RR 2; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Fae Evelyn Elsesser Bailor; two children, Mark A. of Richfield RR 1 and Janet E. Cuckovic of Halifax; a brother, Maurice of Selinsgrove; three sisters, Florence Kerstetter of Selinsgrove, Dolly Lerew of Tucson, Ariz., and Almeda DeHart of Carlisle; and two grandchildren, Leah E. Bailor of Mechanicsburg and Brad A. Bailor of Richfield RR 1.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Charles “Ted,” William and Robert “Bobby,” and a sister, Mary Bailor, at birth.

Services were held May 24 in Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with the Rev. James A. Neimond officiating and the Rev. Raymond D. Neitz assisting. Burial was in Richfield Union Cemetery, Richfield.

BEATRICE L. LAWRENCE
Beatrice L. Lawrence, 76, formerly of New Cumberland, died Thursday, June 3, 2004 in Brookline Manor and Retirement Village, Mifflintown.

She was born Jan. 23, 1928 in Richfield to the late Chester and Jennie (Hupp) Swartz.

She was a retired sales representative; a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Shiremanstown, where she had been active in volunteer work; and enjoyed traveling and was a NASCAR fan.

She was the widow of James Lawrence, who died in 1999.

Surviving are three sisters, Gladys Kline of Kratzerville, Alice Hoffman of Mt. Pleasant Mills and Marguerite Kerstetter of Richfield; and two stepchildren.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Gilbert, Oscar and Harvey Swartz; and a sister, Marion Herrold.

Services were held June 8 in St. John Lutheran Church, Richfield, with the Revs. Michael L. Seifried and Andrew Weaver officiating. Burial was in St. Peters Church Cemetery, Millerstown.

SHERRI D. SHAMBAUGH
Sherri D. Shambaugh, 56, of Carlisle died Monday, May 17, 2004 at home.

She was born Aug. 19, 1947 at Rocky River, Ohio to the late Donald Meador and Maycie Meador of Akron, Ohio.

She was a graduate of the former Blain Union High School.

Surviving are her former husband and lifetime friend, Curtis R. Shambaugh of Carlisle; three sons, Wayne C. of Mechanicsburg, and Michael C. and Bryan E., both of Carlisle; a brother, Tim Howell of Sunrise, Fla.; and a granddaughter, Emily Lynn Shambaugh.

BLAIR R. BELL SR.
Blair Robert Bell Sr., 90, of East Stroudsburg died Monday, May 17, 2004 at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg.

He was born May 1, 1914 in Port Royal to the late Elmer G. and Rebecca (Yocum) Bell.

He was a master carpenter for Fernwood Resort in Bushkill for several years and an accomplished boat builder; an Army veteran of World War II; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are two sons, Blair Robert Jr. of Mabelton, Ga., and Philip F. Sr. of Bangor; a daughter, Barbara Jean Kresge of East Stroudsburg; three brothers, Chester of Millersburg, Ellis of Newport and Roy of Carlisle; four sisters, Mary Mongold of Hummelstown, Janet Hisey of Millersburg, Ruth McGowan of Millerstown and Martha McGowan of Landisburg; 11 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held May 21 in Prospect Cemetery, East Stroudsburg.

WILLIAM L. RYAN SR.
William Leonard “Bill” Ryan Sr., 62, of Schoolhouse Road, Millerstown, died Wednesday, June 2, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Oct. 17, 1941 in Harrisburg to the late Donald and Dorothea (Kelley) Ryan.

He was employed at Boscov’s at the Susquehanna Valley Mall, Selinsgrove, as a salesman in major appliances, where he had worked for nearly 15 years, and previously was employed by Sears in Camp Hill, also in major appliance sales for 25 years; a 1959 graduate of Susquenita High School, Duncannon; an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam era; a member of Reward United Methodist Church, Millerstown, where he was in the church choir and served as a lay speaker and leader, Newport Lodge 381, F&AM, where he was a past master, Scottish Rite, Lodge, Council, Chapter, Consistory, Valley of Harrisburg and Newport Royal Arch Chapter 238; and enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Jane L. Shotsberger Ryan; two sons, Douglas A. of Millerstown and William L. Jr. of Liverpool; a daughter, Beth A. Dy of Odenton, Md.; and four grandchildren, Clint, Ayla, Michael and Alicha.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Richard.

Services were held June 5 in his church with the Rev. Lisa K. Klinger officiating and the Rev. Ronald Beistline assisting. Burial, with military honors by Liverpool American Legion Post 364, was in the church Cemetery.

Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, handled arrangements.

CHARLES R. REESE
Charles Robert Reese, 65, of Creek Road, Shermans Dale, died Tuesday, May 18, 2004 at home.

He was born July 27, 1938 at Landisburg to the late Robert and Louise (Lightner) Reese Hanna.

He was a retired truck driver and formerly had worked for AMP Inc., Carlisle, and served in the Army Reserves.

Surviving are a son and daughter.

ALICE P. CAMPBELL
Alice P. Campbell, 87, of Aqueduct Road, Duncannon, died Sunday, May 30, 2004 in the Masonic Home, Elizabethtown.

She was born May 19, 1918 in Centre Twp. to the late Alice Mae Reeder.

She was an employee of the former Eileen Hope and Duncannon Dress Co.; attended Logania Church of God; and enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, crocheting and knitting.

She was the widow of Earl Campbell.

Surviving are two sons, Walter and Melvin, both of Duncannon; a brother, John Reapsome of Elliottsburg; two sisters, Carrie Kline and Ruth Adams, both of Newport; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Ray Reapsome.

A graveside service was held in Bloomfield Cemetery with the Rev. George Yerger officiating.

RICHARD L. HENCH
Richard L. Hench, 66, of Centre Twp., New Bloomfield, died Saturday, June 5, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

He was born Nov. 19, 1937 in Harrisburg to the late R. Merrill Hench and Martha Rice Roof.

He was retired from PennDOT; a 1956 graduate of Perry Joint High School, where he played football and basketball; and served in the Army National Guard from 1959 to 1962.

He began an illustrious racing career in the late ’50s with his brother, Bob. With success from the streets of Perry County to the strip in York, he soon made his mark around area tracks. He prepared cars, and most notably, built engines for some of the best in the business. His involvement and dedication to the sport he loved was instrumental in the development of sprint car racing. He enjoyed a career spanning more than 40 years with hundreds of victories. In 1995, he was inducted into the York County Racing Club Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his wife, Carrol Wertz Hench; a son, Richard L. of Newport; two daughters, Laurie L. Weikert of Orrtanna and Christine F. Hench of Newport; a brother, Robert of New Bloomfield; a sister, JoAnn Shatto of Shermans Dale; and five grandchildren, Amanda C. Weikert, Todd D. Weikert, Lauren E. Hench, Taylor C. Hench and Jonas C. Weidenhammer.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, June 9, in Highland Presbyterian Church, Newport, with the Rev. Edward Baugh officiating. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Viewing will from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday.

RUTH M. HARTMAN
Ruth M. Hartman, 89, of the Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon, died Saturday, May 29, 2004 at Harrisburg Hospital.

She was born in Marysville to the late Simon and Frances (Sitterley) Myers.

She retired from H.W. Woolworth’s and attended Bethany United Methodist Church, Marysville.

She was the widow of Harold K. Hartman.

Surviving are several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service was held June 2 in Middletown Cemetery with the Rev. Carola Beasley-Topliffe officiating.

Coble-Reber Funeral Home, Middletown, handled arrangements.

ROBERT J. LEFTAULT
Robert J. Leftault, 50, of Newport died Wednesday, May 26, 2004.

A memorial service was held June 4 in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

GEORGE P. REISINGER JR.
George P. Reisinger Jr., 62, of Ickesburg died Saturday, May 29, 2004 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

He was born Aug. 12, 1941 at Ickesburg to the late George P. Sr. and Helen M. (Zondory) Reisinger.

He was a retired teacher with 30 years of service in the Susquenita School District, where he began teaching in 1964 and established many scholarships; a 1959 graduate of Green Park Union High School and a 1964 graduate of Shippensburg University; and a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Ickesburg, Pennsylvania State Education Association, National Education Association, Ickesburg Fire Company and Ickesburg Ambulance Club.

Surviving are two brothers, Wayne C. of Ickesburg and Dale E. of Blain; and a sister, H. Laureen Fuller of Ickesburg.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Sandra S. Goodhart and Selma A. Hench.

Services were held June 2 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Paul Gehris officiating.
