ANNA M. HALTER
Anna M. Halter, 88, of Mill Street, New Buffalo, died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 at Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon, where she had been a resident since April 15, 2004.

She was born Jan. 6, 1916 in Watts Twp. to the late Joseph A. Sr. and Edna Pearl (Hammaker) Dorman.

She was a member of Center Union God’s Missionary Church, Newport.

She was the widow of Harold H. Halter, who died Aug. 8, 1993.

Surviving are five children, Ralph Halter of New Buffalo, Barbara (Willis) Fleming of Hanover, Gerald Halter of York, Randall Halter of Montreal, Canada, and Bradley Halter of Chungli, Taiwan; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, David C., who died in 1935, and Barry D., who died in 1937; and two brothers, Joseph A. Dorman Jr., who died in 1993, and Lawrence Dorman, who died in 2001.

Services were held Aug. 14 in Hill United Methodist Church, Duncannon RR 4, with the Revs. Philip Brenizer and Bernard Wynn officiating. Burial was in Hill Cemetery.

Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

DONALD B. BEAM
Donald B. Beam, 71, of Mechanicsburg died Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

He was born March 23, 1933 in Carlisle Hospital to the late Clair and Marie (Thomas) Beam.

He was retired with 37 years service from the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission as an assistant district manager; a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, New Kingstown, St. John’s F&AM Lodge 260, Carlisle, Zembo Temple and Harrisburg Consistory; and enjoyed being outdoors hunting, fishing, reading, sports, music, flowers and loved ice cream.

Surviving are his wife, who formerly was from Perry County, Eleanora A. Comp Beam; three sons, Jerry B., Brian B. and Don L., and three daughters, Jo A. Mentzer, Sue E. Adams and Lori A. Clelan, all of Mechanicsburg; a brother, Gerald of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Patsy Gochenaur of Dillsburg; eight grandchildren, Henil, Parth, Ian, Max, Julia, Heather, Lydia and Hannah; and best friends, Ron Harris and Vince Kline.

Services were held Aug. 16 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Joseph Kugle officiating. Burial was in Centre Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Loysville RR 1.

CHARLES R. ARMSTRONG
Charles R. “Bob” Armstrong, 60, of Landisburg RR 2 died Friday, Aug. 13, 2004 in Hershey Medical Center.

He was born Sept. 12, 1943 near Elliottsburg to the late Earl and Mae (Campbell) Armstrong.

He was a mechanic at United Parcel Service, Harrisburg; a graduate of Green Park Union High School; served in the National Guard; a member of Teamsters Local 776, Harrisburg, and Landisburg Ambulance Club; and attended Kennedy’s Valley Church of God.

Surviving are his wife, Jane L. Morrow Armstrong; two sons, Charles R. II of Loysville and Craig A. of San Antonio, Texas; a stepson, Brett M. Bailey of Landisburg; two brothers, George E. of Carlisle and James A. of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Nancy A. Britcher of Carlisle; and a grandson and two stepgrandchildren.

Services were held Aug. 18 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Malcolm E. Martin officiating. Burial was in Landisburg Cemetery.

EDITH M. LESHER
Edith M. “Edie” Lesher, 81, of West Main Street, New Bloomfield, died Thursday, Aug. 12, 2004 in Chapel Pointe at Carlisle.

She was born Sept. 1, 1922 at Newport to the late Howard Holley and Florence (Foose) Putt.

She was employed at the former Carlisle Tire & Rubber Company and was a cook at the Perry County Prison; and a member of the New Bloomfield Ambulance Association.

She was the widow of George H. Lesher.

Surviving are three daughters, Patricia Gilbert of Summerdale, Joan Reich of North Carolina and Wendi Mullen of Shermans Dale; three sons, Larry of Carlisle, Ron of Duncannon and Walter of New Bloomfield; a sister, Jeanette Messimer of Millerstown; 16 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, James Holley and John Lesher.

A graveside service was held Aug. 16 in Bloomfield Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Zang officiating.

Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.

JAMES L. MCELROY
James Lewis “Shiloh” McElroy, 54, of Newport died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2004 at home.

He was born Feb. 4, 1950 in Waynesville, N.C., to Mary Jane Jolley Elmore of Waynesville and the late James Lewis McElroy.

He was retired from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Department of Labor and Industry, where he served as the unemployment compensation Web editor; a member of Perry County Old Iron Collectors; a notary public for the past 15 years; and enjoyed reading, writing, hunting, designing Web sites, playing guitar and listening to music.

In addition to his mother, surviving are his wife of 29 years, Ronda Clouser McElroy; a daughter, Rachel Jo Brougher; a grandson, Ezekiel Vernon Brougher; and a brother, Monte Dean Jolley of Shirrilla, Tenn.

Services were held Aug. 14 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport.

DOROTHY R. CLEGG PATTON
Dorothy R. Clegg Patton, 85, of Howe Twp., Newport, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born May 25, 1919 in Miller Twp. to the late Herbert M. and Minnie (Baker) Hartzell.

She was retired from the Comptroller Office of the Pennsylvania Department of Education; attended Red Hill Church of God, Newport; a member of American Legion Post 177 and VFW Post 34 ladies auxiliaries, Newport; and enjoyed yard sales.

She was the widow of Elmer B. Clegg and Ralph Patton.

Surviving are four sons, Kenneth B. Clegg, Donald L. Clegg of New Bloomfield, and Herbert M. Clegg and Victor R. Clegg, both of Newport; two daughters, Theresa S. Gustafson of Newport and Jeanette L. Melhuish of Mayville, Mich.; a brother, Paul C. Hartzell of Newport; a sister, Susan Auxt of Marysville; and 95 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and stepgrandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Lola Clegg.

Services were held Aug. 11 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery, Newport.

LINDA BREAM BIXLER
Linda Bream Bixler, 64, of Newport, died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 2004 in Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon.

She was born Sept. 25, 1939 in Newport to the late Albert and Gertrude (Clouser) Dick.

Surviving are five daughters, Deborah Fortenbaugh, Lorrie Waltz, Barbara Flurie, Brenda Horting and Amy Smith, all of Newport; two brothers, Albert “Ted” Dick and Thomas Dick, both of Liverpool; four sisters, Lois Sterner of Tucson, Ariz, Shirley Wenrich of Mechanicsburg, Susan McNaughton of Newport and Joanne Wright of York Springs; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and David Dick.

Services were Sept. 3 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. William Walborn officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

SARAH A. REISINGER
Sarah A. Reisinger, 84, of Mechanicsburg died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 at home.

She was born Dec. 29, 1919 in New Bloomfield to the late Earl and Lillian (Brunner) Kimmel.

For more than 50 years she provided day care in her home for many children, and was a member of First Church of God, Mechanicsburg, for 54 years and was active for many years in the nursery.

She was the widow of George I. Reisinger.

Surviving are a son, Earl I. of Mechanicsburg; two brothers, Russell Kimmel of New Bloomfield and Ralph Kimmel of Elliottsburg; three sisters, Mary Beard of Harrisburg and Evelyn Baker and Ruth George, both of Duncannon; two grandchildren, Scott Reisinger and Michele Johnson; and a great-grandson, Corey Reisinger.

Services were held Sept. 4 in Myers Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, with the Rev. Robert W. Malick Jr. officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

HARRIET B. SEASE
Harriet B. Sease, 82, of Landisburg died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

She was born Feb. 18, 1922 in Allentown to the late Lloyd and Helen (Moyer) Hoch.

She was a retired hospital worker and had a passion for Victorian decorating and flower gardening.

She was the widow of Joseph Sease.

Surviving are two sons, Jack Schaeffer of Hagerstown, Md., and Larry Schaeffer of Landisburg; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Sept. 3 in New Harmony Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Malpezzie Funeral Home, Mechanicsburg, handled arrangements.

PAUL L. BOWERSOX
Paul L. “Knee High” Bowersox, 75, of Liverpool RR 1, Susquehanna Twp., Juniata County, died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004 at Lewistown Hospital.

He was born March 6, 1929 in Juniata County to the late Henry O. and Annie (Yorks) Bowersox.

He retired in the late 1970s after 40 years of self-employment in the Paul L. Bowersox and Sons Trucking Co., Liverpool, and previously was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, Enola Yards, where he worked as an engine mechanic for 12 years; educated in Juniata County rural schools; a member of the Church of Christ in Christian Union, Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 1; and enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, playing musical string instruments and playing softball.

He was the widower of Dorothy Pauline Miller Bowersox, who died Feb. 24, 2003.

Surviving are five sons, Ronald P., Donald L., James L. and Timothy J., all of Liverpool RR 1, and Jonathan S. “Scott” of Duncannon; a brother, Roy of Mifflintown; two sisters, Rosella Watts of Halifax and Linda Borman of Duncannon; 14 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester and Harry; and four sisters, Hazel, Esther, Ethel and Pauline.

Services were held Sept. 2 in his church with pastor Daryl M. Kuhns officiating and the Rev. John R. Bowman assisting. Burial was Hillside Cemetery, McAlisterville RR 1.

Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, handled arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to his church, RR 1, Box 162, Mt. Pleasant Mills 17853.

MADELINE BEECHER SMITH
Madeline Beecher Smith, 87, a resident of Kinkora Pythian Nursing Home, Duncannon, died Saturday, Aug. 28, 2004.

She was born and raised in Harrisburg, graduating for the former William Penn High School in 1935. She was employed at the former Schleisner’s and Harriet Hammer Lingerie Shop.

She was the widow of Edward W. Smith.

Surviving are a daughter, Suzanne Smith Marsico of Camp Hill; three grandchildren, Edward Jr. and Andrew J. Marsico, both of Harrisburg, and Madeline Marsico Lukas of Larchmont, N.Y.; six great-grandchildren, Connor, Alexander, Owen and Benjamin of Harrisburg and Katherine and Abigail of Larchmont; and a sister, Rhea Maff of Harrisburg.

Neill Funeral Home handled arrangements.

LEON R. CARTER
Leon R. Carter, 77, of Blain and formerly of Wilmington, Del., died Friday, Dec. 31, 2004 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

He was born June 27, 1927 in Wilmington to the late John and Gertrude (Hayes) Carter.

He was a retired truck driver for Ogden Howard Furniture Company, Wilmington; an Air Force veteran of World War II; and a member of American Legion Post 232, Dry Run, American Stahl Post, Wilmington, and Brandywine Rod and Gun Club, Wilmington.

Surviving are his wife, Patricia A. Huber Carter, Blain; a son, Thomas G. McGowan of Wilmington; a brother, Robert Carter of Wilmington; and a sister, Carolyn Shudes of Leesburg, Fla.

Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 6, in McCrery Memorial Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington. Burial will be in Gracelawn Cemetery, New Castle, Del.

Viewing will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Thursday, in the funeral home.

Local arrangements were handled by Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville.
