LESTER J. SMITH
Lester John Smith, 64, of Marysville died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 at home.

He was born Oct. 24, 1940 in Barnesville to the late Clarence and Susan (Kobich) Smith.

He had worked as a freight conductor for Conrail, Harrisburg; was a former member of the Pennsylvania National Guard; and a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church, Marysville, where he was a CCD teacher for more than 10 years and past president of the Men’s Club, and Queenship Council 4068, Knights of Columbus, Camp Hill.

Surviving are his wife, Anna M. O’Brien Smith; a son, Sean Lester of Marysville; two daughters, AnneMarie Boltz of Lebanon and Shannon P. Ulsh of Marysville; two brothers, Fred-erick of Hope Sound, Fla., and Albert of Barnesville; a sister, Merle Andescavage of Barnesville; and six grandchildren, Savanna Smith, Derick, Tyler and Brian Boltz, and Cassandra and Miranda Ulsh.

Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Dec. 30 in his church. Burial was in Perry Heights Cemetery, Marysville.

Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville, handled arrangements.

RACHAEL M. SPANGLER
Rachael M. Spangler, 84, formerly of Metz Lane, New Bloomfield, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2005 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

She was born Feb. 12, 1920 in Centre Twp. to the late Allen G.T. and Margaret (Whitekettle) Groff.

She was a homemaker and a member of New Bloomfield United Methodist Church.

She was the widow of Paul M. Spangler, who died in 2003.

Surviving are two sons, Christian A. of Kapolea, Hawaii, and Kenneth L. of Carlisle; four daughters, Donna M. Gilley of Killeen, Texas, Karen L. Mallari of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Leah F. McGarry of New Bloomfield and Paula M. Sube of Harrisburg; two brothers, Allen R. Groff of New Bloomfield and Patrick Groff of Thompsontown; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sharon Irene Spangler.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Jan. 7, in Boyer Funeral Home, 101 W. Main St., New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Lori Cale officiating. Burial will be in Longsdorf Cemetery, Cumberland County.

Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.

TANYA M. WILEMAN
Tanya Mae “Ta-Ta” Wileman, 22, of Millerstown RR 2 died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004 at the home of her uncle, Frank Taylor of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 2.

She was born Jan. 30, 1982 in Sunbury to Larry Eugene Wileman of Millerstown RR 2 and Vera I. Taylor Wileman of Sunbury.

She was educated at Greenwood High School, Millerstown; associated with Richfield Mennonite Church.

In addition to her uncle, surviving are her mother and her fiance, Earl S. Musser; her father and his companion, Kelli L. Gutshall of Camp Hill; two brothers, Jonathan E. Wileman of McAlisterville and James E. Wileman of Evandale; two nieces and a nephew, Hannah, Hailey and Tyler Wileman; paternal grandmother, Erma I. Garner of Millerstown RR 2; maternal grandfather, Roscoe S. Taylor of Mt. Pleasant Mills RR 2; and her fiance, Luchian Whitesel.

She was preceded in death by an infant son, Gavin Emanuel Whitesel, who was stillborn on Christmas Day; paternal grandfathers, Kenneth Wileman and Lawrence “Pap” Garner; and maternal grandmother, Flavia Mae Taylor.

Services were held Dec. 30 in Richfield Mennonite Church with pastor Jerry R. O’Connell officiating. Burial was in Faith Lutheran Cemetery, Richfield RR 1.

Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, handled arrangements.

ORVILLE E. CHAPMAN
Orville E. Chapman, 85, of Juniata Twp., Newport, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at home.

He was born April 26, 1919 in Danville to the late Walter and Claudia (Yeager) Chapman.

He was retired from the former Pennsylvania Railroad and opened the former Chapman’s Clothing Store, Newport, in 1962; a graduate of Danville High School; an Army veteran of World War II; attended Newport Assembly of God Church; a member of Newport American Legion Post 177; and enjoyed golfing, hunting and bowling.

Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Serena M. Chapman; a son, Ronald E. of Newport; two brothers, Jacob of Lebanon and Randall of Shamokin Dam; three grandchildren, Trisha L. Burns of Linglestown, Darin E. Chapman of Denver, Pa., and Braden C. Chapman of Glen Allen; and a great-granddaughter, Mallory.

Services were held Dec. 23 in Newport Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Gary Bellis officiating. Burial, with military honors by New Bloomfield VFW and Newport American Legion, was in Newport Cemetery.

ELSE M. MOSER
Else M. Moser, 92, formerly of Mountain Road, Liverpool, and Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield, died Monday, Dec. 20, 2004 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.

She was born May 31, 1912 in New York to the late Nicholas and Rose (Zetako) Walter.

She was a retired nurse and a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Liverpool.

She was the widow of William U. Moser.

Surviving are a sister, Helen Cantore of Sun City, Ariz.; a niece, Arlene DeMarco of Phoenix, Ariz.; and a nephew, Ronald Noel of Arizona.

Services were held Dec. 29 in her church. Burial was in Sunset Memorial Park, Bucks County.

ANNA MAE M. NEARHOOD
Anna Mae Margaret “Betty” Nearhood, 82, of Fisher Street, Duncannon, died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004 at Stonebridge Health and Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon. She was born March 15, 1922 in York to the late George and Margaret (Weber) Snyder.

She was employed by the former Amity Hall and the former Eileen Hope Dress Factory; a member of Peter’s Mountain C.B. Club, American Legion Post 340 Ladies Auxiliary, Duncannon Golden Age and Senior Citizens and its Pinochle card club and Trindle Bowl; a volunteer at Stonebridge for 10 years; and enjoyed playing bingo.

She was the widow of James E. Nearhood.

Surviving are children, John P. Sr. of Duncannon, Mary Salisbury of Redwood, N.Y., James E. of Blain, Donna L. Krick of Duncannon, Bunni Barger of Duncannon, and Mick of Duncannon; a brother, Larry Snyder; three sisters, Della Smith, Lois Ness and Janet Coon, all of York; 13 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.

Services were held Dec. 29 in Ronald C.L. Smith Funeral Home, 325 N. High St., Duncannon, with the Rev. Bruce Gearhart officiating. Burial was in Riverview Memorial Garden, Halifax.

DAVID M. CLARK
David Michael Clark, 27, of Liverpool died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 in Hershey Medical Center from injuries sustained in an occupational accident on Dec. 17 in Harrisburg.

He was born Sept. 17, 1977 in Harrisburg to Robert F. III and Dianne Wieger Clark of Point Pleasant, W.Va.

He was employed in construction for Kemar, Inc., Harrisburg, where he had worked for nine years; a 1996 graduate of Newport High School; and of the Protestant faith.

In addition to his parents, surviving are a brother, Robert F. IV of Harrisburg; paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert F. Clark Jr. of Calvin, Pa.; maternal grandparents, Richard Wieger and Jean Wieger, both of Harrisburg; paternal great-grandfather, John Arbogast of Harrisburg; and a companion, Amy Thompson.

Services were held Dec. 29 in Garman Funeral Home, 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, with pastor Barry S. Kendall officiating. Burial was in Hunters Valley Cemetery, Hunters Church Road, Liverpool.

GOLDIE MINICH
Goldie Minich, 91, of White Mills died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 at Bethany Village, Bethany.

She was born May 3, 1913 in Eshcol to the late John D. and Lou Lou (Baker) Knisely.

She was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Church, Honesdale, Women’s Auxiliary, charter member of Dorflinger-Suydam Wildlife Sanctuary and White Mills PTA; and a graduate of Newport High School.

She was the widow of B. Ray Minich.

Surviving are a son, Ronald W. Minich of Belvidere, N.J.; two daughters, Norma N. Massood of Wayne, N.J., and Linda K. Queipo of Lake Ariel, Pa.; a sister, Faye Hammaker; a brother, Darwin Knisely; eight grandchildren, Robert, Richard and James Minich, Edward and Thomas Shrek, Brett, Brenda and Sarah Queipo; and 11 great-grandchildren, Bradfore, Bryan, Leah and Nicole Minich, Jason, Carissa, Michael, Christine and Benjamin Shrek, Nicole Crissey and Katie O’Toole.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Merle, Kenneth and Donald Knisely.

Services were held Dec. 23 in her church with the Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter officiating. Burial was in Indian Orchard Cemetery, White Mills.

GERALD F. CLOUSE
Gerald F. “Mussy” Clouse, 74, of Landisburg and recently residing in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield, died Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.

He was born Dec. 28, 1929 at Landisburg to the late Alvin H. and Mary (Barkley) Clouse.

He was employed at Ramsey Construction, Lemoyne, and retired from TRW, Harrisburg; had attended Sheaffer’s Valley Church of God; and a member of Landisburg Fire Company and Landisburg Ambulance Club.

Surviving are two brothers, William B. of Landisburg and Terry L. of Elliottsburg; two sisters, Peggy L. Morrison and Nancy C. Bell, both of Landisburg; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Dale A. and H. Eugene, and a sister, Verda M. Shaffer.

Services were held Dec. 23 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Malcolm E. Martin officiating. Burial was in Landisburg Cemetery.

VELMA J. DECKARD
Velma Justine Deckard, 89, of Dover, Del., died Saturday, Dec. 25, 2004.

She was born May 23, 1914 on a farm near Palestine, W.Va., to the late Frank and Anna (Archer) Wells. She lived on Fifth Street in Newport from 1947 until 2001 and was a resident of Dover since May of 2001.

While living in Newport, she was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Newport Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary and a charter member of Towpath Court 138 Order of Amaranth.

She was the widow of Frank D. Deckard.

Surviving are two sons, David D. of West Grove and Daniel N. of Camden, Del.; a brother, Roy Wells of Bellflower, Calif.; a sister, Elizabeth Jordan of Keystone Heights, Fla.; three granddaughters, Karen L. Collins of West Chester, Danielle L. Deckard of Baltimore, Md., and Lindsay K. Deckard of Newark, Del.; and three great-grandchildren, Rachel J. Collins, Lathan D. Collins and Sean T. Collins.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Emmett and Russell Wells; and two sisters, Audra Van Dyke and Mildred Holleron.

Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 30, in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Second and Walnut streets, Newport, with the Rev. Arthur Steckel officiating. Burial will be in Newport Cemetery.

Viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, in the funeral home.

PEGGY L. NOLL
Peggy L. Noll, 72, formerly of Juniata Twp., Newport, died Thursday, Dec. 23, 2004 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.

She was born July 28, 1932 in Lewistown to the late Ralph and Edna (Cavanaugh) Park.

She was an avid fan of Elvis Presley.

Surviving are her husband, Everett Lee Noll of Newport; two sons, Frank R. Swartz of Carlisle and John K. Smith Jr. of Newport; two daughters, Deanna Swartz Brookhart of Carlisle and Debra Swartz Casner of Newport; a brother, Glenn Park of Illinois; six grandchildren, Michael A. Brookhart of Florida, Denise R. Murren of East Berlin, Heather O’Brien of Newport, Alonza Swartz of Millerstown and Latonya Swartz and Aleisha L. Smith, both of Newport; and four great-grandchildren, John, Jacob and S. Joy Brookhart and Haley O’Brien.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Ralph and Ronald Park and Frank Sr., Harrison and William Spickler; and three sisters, Diane Park Mitchell, Helen Park Hicks and Edwina Park Stayner.

Services were held Dec. 28 in David M. Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. B. Michael Brossman officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
