Tiffany Lyn Alger, infant daughter of Richard E. Jr. and Angela Michelle (Robbins) Alger of Elliottsburg, died Tuesday, June 2, 1998 at Carroll County (Md.) General Hospital.
She was born March 20, 1998 in Carlisle Hospital.
In addition to her parents, surviving are two sisters, Stephanie and Breanna; maternal grandparents, Alden Jr. and Gwen Shaffer of Westminster, Md.; paternal grandparents, Michael and Deborah Petty of Baltimore, Md.; maternal great-grandparents, Alden and Betty Shaffer of Lineboro, Md., and Gene and Zelma Robbins of Kentucky; and paternal great-grandparents, Brown and Kit Burleson of Baltimore.
Services were held June 6 in Pritts Funeral Home and Chapel, Westminster, with the Rev. Ron Lamm officiating. Burial was in Holly Hills Memorial Gardens, Middle River, Md.
RALPH E. ANDERSON
Ralph E. "Gene" Anderson, 82, of Main Street, Blain, died Thursday, Dec. 17, 1998 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
He was born Dec. 6, 1916 at New Germantown to the late George W. and Elsie M. (Boltosser) Anderson.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Blain Ambulance Club.
Surviving are three nephews and three great-nephews.
Services were held Dec. 19 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Kathleen G. Coleman officiating. Burial was in Blain Cemetery.
ROBERT C. ANDERSON
He was born May 12, 1921 in Chicago, Ill. to the late Irwin Anderson and the late Mildred Mouer Anderson Prudue.
He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in San Antonio, Texas, England, France and Germany. He retired in 1976 after 30 years of service as an equipment specialist at Mechanicsburg Naval Supply Depot. He retired from working at Giant Foods of Camp Hill and Carlisle with 14 years of service. He worked at Nell's Markets at both Spring Road and Walnut Bottom locations for the past eight years as the primary sign designer. He was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church, Boiling Springs, serving as custodian for nine years and was on the administrative board, bell ringer, communion usher, head of altar guild, trustee and an usher; and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8851, Boiling Springs.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Josephine D. Hess Anderson; a daughter, Sandra M. Gutshall of Carlisle; a son, Robert C. Anderson II of New Bloomfield; three granddaughters; and three grandsons.
Services were Oct. 21 in his church with the Rev. Dr. David L. Reed officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Monroe Twp.

SARAH M.E. ANDERSON
Sarah M.E. Anderson, 83, of Blain died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 1998 in Green Ridge Village, Newville.
She was born April 1, 1915 in New Germantown to the late George W. and Elsie M. (Boltosser) Anderson.
She was a farmer and a member of Blain Zion Lutheran Church and its Blain Ladies Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, and the Blain Ambulance Club.
Surviving are a brother, Ralph E. Anderson of Blain; three nephews; and three great-nephews.
Services were held Aug. 22 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with pastor Kathleen Coleman officiating. Burial was in Blain Cemetery.

DOROTHY I. ANTHONY
Dorothy Irene Anthony, 53, of Landisburg RR 1, died Sunday, June 21, 1998 at Harrisburg Hospital.
She was born Oct. 20, 1944 at Loysville RR 1.
She was a housewife and a former employee of Kinney Shoes, Carlisle. She was a member of St Peter's United Church of Christ, Landisburg.
Surviving are her husband, Robert E. Anthony; a son, Jeffrey A. Anthony, at home; her parents, David Alvin and Charlotte Virginia (Hess) Nace of Landisburg RR 1; four brothers, Clyde Nace of Elliottsburg, Raymond Nace and Charles Nace, both of Landisburg, and Dennis Nace of Newville; three sisters, Ruthann Hysick of Shippensburg, Donna Varner of Carlisle and Brenda Metz of Shermans Dale; and one grandson, Brent A. Anthony.
Services were held June 24 at her church with the Revs. George C. Martz and E. Levain Fouse officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery.
Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.

JUDITH A. APPLEBY
Judith A. Appleby, 56, of New Bloomfield RR 2 died Friday, Sept. 18, 1998 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
Surviving are her husband, Charles E. Appleby III, and a daughter, Vickie, both of New Bloomfield; a son, Michael of Camp Hill; her mother, Elizabeth Shadle of Lykens; a sister, Jean Lesher of Halifax; and a granddaughter, Kyra Appleby.
Services were held Sept. 22 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Anthony Hill officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.
EDWARD C. ARMAN
Edward C. Arman, 92, of Elliottsburg died Wednesday, June 3, 1998 in Carlisle Hospital.
He was a retired steel inspector for Lukens Steel Company and a member of Faith Baptist Church, Elliottsburg.
He was the widower of Ruth I. Stewart.
Surviving are a daughter, Esther Roth of Elliottsburg; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by a son.
Services were held at the convenience of the family. Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.

HAROLD W. ARNOLD
Harold W. Arnold, 67, of Mount Pleasant Mills RR 2 died Sunday, July 5, 1998 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was born Jan. 27, 1931 in Susquehanna Twp., Juniata County, to the late Charles F. and Maggie (Brown) Arnold.
He was a retired equipment operator from PennDOT; former council member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church; and a member of Retired Public Employees of Pennsylvania, Liverpool Home Association, Liverpool American Legion, Middleburg VFW, Millerstown Moose and Liverpool Fire Company.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Fleta M. Roush Arnold; two daughters, Linda C. Kuhn of Millerstown and Gay D. Bitting of Liverpool; five grandchildren; two brothers, Luther of Liverpool and Henry of Mt. Pleasant Mills; three sisters, Grace Pennebaker of Penns Creek, Bertha Silks of Millersburg and Katie Goodling of Mt. Pleasant Mills; two half-sisters, Charlotte Yerger of Avoca and Gladys Szeives of Millersburg.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Cloyd; a half-brother, Charles Arnold; a stepbrother, Dervin Hupp; and two stepsisters, Thelma Miller and Pearl Miller.
Services were held July 8 in his church, with the Rev. Celo V. Leitzel officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery.

LUTHER R. ARNOLD
Luther R. Arnold, 77, of Liverpool RR 1 died Sunday, Aug. 23, 1998 at home.
He was a retired Juniata County supervisor, Susquehanna Twp., and worked for Hempt Brothers, Camp Hill.
He was a member of Arbogast Zion Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills. He was a social member of Liverpool American Legion, Liverpool Ambulance League, and Fraternal Order of Police, Harrisburg.
Surviving are his wife, Thelma D. Stahl Arnold; two sons, Barry and Harold, both of Liverpool; a brother, Henry of Mount Pleasant Mills; five sisters, Grace Pennebaker of Penns Creek, Katie Goodling of Mount Pleasant Mills, Berthe Silks and Gladys Szeives, both of Millersburg; and Charlotte Yeager of Avoca; and five grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 26 in his church. Burial was in the church Cemetery.

JAMES W. ASKINS
James W. Askins, 91, of W. High Street, New Bloomfield, died Sunday, Aug. 16, 1998 at his home.
He was born May 7, 1907 in Centre Twp. to the late Charles and Catherine (Fry) Askins.
He was a retired brick and stone mason, a retired employee of both Kelley Dri-Wall of Mechanicsburg and the former Hampton, Snyder and Seed of New Bloomfield. He was house director and a member of New Bloomfield Fire Company and Auxillary, New Bloomfield Fireman's Club, New Bloomfield Sportman's Club and New Bloomfield United Methodist Church.
He was the widower of Goldie P. Askins. He is survived by two daughters, Shirley Aughenbaugh of Mechanicsburg and Glenda Kelly of Carlisle; 10 grandchldren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Gerald W. Askins.
Services were held Aug. 19 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Patricia Woolever officiating. Burial was in New Bloomfield Cemetery.

CLARA G. ASPER
She was born Feb. 8, 1912 at Sugar Run Valley, Millerstown, to the late Charles F. and Margaret J. (Reeder) McNaughton.
She was a licensed practical nurse, retired from Clare Ridge Farms, and a member of St. Samuel's Church, Newport.
She was the widow of Orville R. Asper. Surviving are two sons, James F. of North Carolina and Ronald L. of Swoope, Va.; five daughters, Grace M. Chepolis of Connecticut, Cynthia Dean of Magnolia, N.C., Shirley A. Hower of New Bloomfield RR 2, Dorothy B. Makely of Swoope and Bonnie K. Andrae of Duncannon; two brothers, Charles F. McNaughton Jr. of Elizabeth City, N.C., and Joseph R. McNaughton Sr. of Millerstown; seven sisters, Grace M. Graver of New Bloomfield, Sara Heim of Harrisburg, Alda Gelbaugh of Millerstown, Florence Smith of Pottstown, V. Pearl Cauffman of Newport, Jane Good of Millerstown and Nancy L. Johnson of Landisburg; 21 grandchildren; and several great- and great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m., Oct. 24, in Myers Funeral Home, Newport. Cremation Society of Pennsylvania, Harrisburg, is handling arrangements.

He was an employee of Pennsy Supply Inc. in Newport; a graduate of Newport High School; and a member of ABATE and the Newport Social Order of Owls.
Surviving are a son, JesseLee J. of Millersburg; his parents, C. Lee and Patricia L. Auxt Atwood of Newport RR 1; and his maternal grandfather, Franklin J. Auxt Sr. of Newport.

GEORGE C. AUCKER
George C. "Nanner-Cake" Aucker, 95, formerly of S. Third Street, Newport, died Sunday, June 7, 1998 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
He was born Nov. 24, 1902 in Northumberland County to the late Arthur and Fianna (Brown) Aucker. He was educated in Liverpool schools; owned and operated Aucker Lumber Co., Liverpool, retiring in 1964; a member of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Liverpool; and a social member of Newport Fire Company.
Surviving are his wife of 74 years, Ardella F. Charles Aucker; two sons, George E. of Liverpool and Bradley A. of Williston, Fla.; three daughters, Thelma G. Geiswite of Milton, Shirley Ann Delancey of Newport RR 1 and Luella E. Holman of Liverpool; a sister, Miriam Crane of Liverpool; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two stepgreat-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Raymond, Howard and Clarence.
Services were held June 10 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. Ray Hatcher officiating. Burial was in Liverpool Union Cemetery.

HILDEGARDE W. AVERY
Hildegarde W. Avery, 89, of Alexandria, Va., and Sherburne, N.Y., where she had lived with her daughter, died Friday, May 15, 1998 at Gilmour Health Care Facility, Norwich, N.Y.
She was born Feb. 12, 1909 in Harrisburg to the late Frank and Buelah (Potter) Westfall.
She was educated in Harrisburg and Reading and was a graduate of Kutztown College, where she majored in art. She taught art in Reading and Alexandria, Va. elementary schools; was active in civic activities; and was a member of Immanuel Episcopal Church, Alexandria.
She was the widow of Lincoln Avery, who died Nov. 12, 1981.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan Young of Sherburne; a son, John of Alexandria; and four grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Grossert.
Graveside services were held May 18 in Duncannon Cemetery.
Burgess Funeral Home, Sherburne, handled arrangements.
