Mary E. Byers, 103, formerly of N. Fourth Steet, Newport, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 in Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.
She was born Jan. 25, 1898 in Tuscarora Twp. to the late Hiram and Elsie (Sowers) Burd.
She was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church, Newport, Daughters of the American Revolution, Newport Garden Club, Perry County Historical Society, Covered Bridge Society and Newport Senior Citizens Center.
She was the widow of Walter D. Byers.
Surviving are two sons, Donald P. of New Bloomfield and Luther S. of Mechanicsburg; three daughters, Kathryn A. Sheaffer of Carlisle, Virginia W. Dowdrick of Florida and Mary E. Fissel of Enola; three sisters, Minnie Hummel and Mildred Cox, both of Newport, and Elizabeth Berstler of Middletown; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 23 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Jerry Donahue officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church, P.O. Box 38, Newport 17074, or to any charity.
Ethel M. Campbell, 97, formerly of Lewistown, died Thursday, Nov. 1, 2001 in ManorCare Health Services, York.
She was born July 18, 1904 in Harrisburg to the late Samuel and Annie (Haverstock) Cameron.
She was a member of Rhodes Memorial Methodist Church, Lewistown, and loved flowers and gardening.
She was the widow of Lee P. Campbell.
Surviving are two sons, Paul C. of York and Roy C. of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 5 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Thomas B. Morningstar officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to her church, Highland Avenue, Lewistown 17044.
Judy L. Campbell, 51, formerly of Landisburg, died Saturday, June 16, 2001 in Thornwald Nursing Home, Carlisle.
She was born Oct. 18, 1949 at Landisburg RR 1 to Scott Campbell of Lewisberry and the late Treva (Clouser) Campbell.
She was a former state employee and formerly employed at an orchard.
In addition to her father, surviving are a daughter, Michelle "Missy" L. Campbell of Landisburg; four sisters, Doris Mitten of Landisburg, Mary Campbell of Carlisle, Betty Richardson of Lemoyne and Shirley Nett of Millersville; a granddaughter and a grandson.
A memorial service was held June 22 in Thornwald Home chapel. Graveside services, with pastor Robert W. House officiating, were held June 22 in Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Landisburg RR 1.
Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.
Ruth I. Carns, 83, formerly of Newport, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2001 in Messiah Village, Mechanicsburg.
She was born July 23, 1918 in Newport to the late Charles and Nell (Brown) Kerr.
She was retired from the Pennsylvania Department of Treasury, and a member of Market Street United Methodist Church, Newport.
She was the widow of Arthur S. Carns.
Surviving are a son, James E. of Marysville; a daughter, Ruth Ann Kroh of Harrisburg; a brother, Clarence Kerr of Mechanicsburg; six grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by a son, Frank R.
A graveside service was held Aug. 20 in Newport Cemetery with the Rev. Ron Burgard officiating. A memorial service was held the same day at Messiah Village.

Faye Ann Carpenter, 60, of Dulles Drive East, Camp Hill, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2001 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
She was born Dec. 21, 1940 in Newport to the late Franklin P.D. and Nellie (Brown) Freet.
She was an employee of Classic Dry Cleaners; a graduate of Susquenita High School; a member of Peace Catholic Church at the Army War College, Carlisle; and was interested in wildlife groups.
She was the widow of Paul R. Carpenter.
Surviving are two brothers, James M. Freet of Middletown and Frank A. Freet of Millerstown.
Services were held Jan. 18 in Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Donald Rutherford officiating. Burial was in Hill Cemetery, Duncannon RR 4.t.
Sharn N. Cleland, 24, of Pisgah Road, Shermans Dale, died Thursday, July 5, 2001 in Lancaster County as the result of injuries sustained in a cave collapse.
He was born July 17, 1976 in Omaha, Neb.
He worked as a self-employed construction contractor; was a 1994 graduate of West Perry High School, Elliottsburg; a member of the York Grotto Caving Club, Commander Cody Grotto Caving Club and the National Speological Society; and enjoyed fishing, camping, hiking, spelunking and the outdoors.
Surviving are his mother and stepfather, Mary and John Kern, his fiance, Tammi Johnston, his maternal grandparents, Theodore and Mary Garman, and paternal grandparents, Neal and Maryanne Cleland, all of Shermans Dale; step-grandparents, Neal and Edythe Kern of Thompsontown; paternal great-grandmother, Helen Knisley of Gratz; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Services were held July 10 in Christina Life Assembly Church, Camp Hill, with pastor Jamie Kjos officiating. Burial was in New Life Assembly of God Cemetery, Landisburg.
Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, handled arrangements.

Virginia M. Cless, 67, of Elliottsburg RR 2 died Sunday, March 18, 2001 in Carlisle Hospital.
She was born June 3, 1933 at Elliottsburg RR 1 to the late Walter and Eleanor (Radle) Rudy.
She was a school bus driver for 27 years in the West Perry School District and a member of Landisburg Ambulance Club.
She was the widow of John C. Cless Jr.
Surviving are a daughter, Donna J. Snyder of Duncannon; a son, Kenneth W. of Carlisle; two brothers, Walter and Ronald Rudy, both of Elliottsburg; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Services were held March 22 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Revs. James R. God and James J. Penica officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.

Mary O. Clouser, 95, of ManorCare Health Services, Carlisle, and formerly of Harrisburg, died Wednesday, April 4, 2001 in the home.
She was born Aug. 26, 1905 in Carlisle to the late George M. and Dessie S. (Whisler) Clouser.
She retired as a receptionist from Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg and was a member of Paxton United Methodist Church, Harrisburg.
Surviving are a nephew and several cousins.
Services were held April 9 in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, with the Rev. Tim Funk officiating. Burial was in Prospect Hill Cemetery, West Pennsboro Twp.
