Arlene M. Shaffer, 74, of S. Front Street, Liverpool, formerly of Liverpool RR 1, died Sunday, April 19, in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
She was born April 30, 1923 at Liverpool RR 1, Juniata County, to the late William Maynard and Verna (Frymoyer) Hockenbroch.
She was a 1941 graduate of Liverpool High School; a seamstress for Liverpool Dress Factory; and a member of St. James United Methodist Church and its Sunday school class, Liverpool Senior Citizens and Ambulance League.
She was the widow of Clayton Stahl Shaffer, who died May 22, 1991.
Surviving are a son, Larry of Millerstown; two sisters, Betty Willow of Millerstown and Pauline Lenig of Liverpool; and three grandchildren, Jenny, Megan and Grace Sheaffer, all of Millerstown.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Hazel A. Hoffman, who died Jan. 9, 1979.
Services were held April 22 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. Arthur L. Montgomery officiating. Burial was in St. John's (Barners) Lutheran Cemetery.

Elsie V. Sheaffer, 76, of East Pennsboro Twp., formerly of Duncannon, died Sunday, April 26, 1998 in Holy Spirit Hospital.
She was born August 10, 1921 in Wheatfield Twp. to the late Edward L. and Fianne (Smith) Baker.
She formerly worked for Hope Dress Factory and was a member of Roseglen United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Frank K. Sheaffer.
Surviving are two sons, Donald N. Charles of Enola and Edgar H. Charles of Coal Twp.; three sisters, Betty Shearer of Mechanicsburg, Helen Lizman of Carlisle and Freida Warham of Harrisburg; a brother, William Clouser of Newport; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, at Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Randall Goshorn officiating. Burial will be in Snyder Cemetery, New Bloomfield.

Clair E. Shatto Sr., 86, of Crescent Court, New Cumberland, died Thursday, April 16, 1998 at home.
He was born Aug. 6, 1911 at Shermans Dale to the late Walter C. and Wave Ethel (McNeal) Shatto.
He was a retired employee of Penn Central Railroad; and a member of Paxton United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, Transportation-Communications International Union AFL-CIO-CLC, and the PRR Veterans Employee Association, Harrisburg.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Hay Shatto; one son, Clair E. Jr. of Harrisburg; one sister, Gertrude E. Shatto of Harrisburg; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held April 18 in Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Wayne Bender officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Duncannon.

Evelyn M. Sherman, 82, of Landisburg RR 1 died Thursday, Sept. 10, 1998 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
She was born May 5, 1916 at Wormleysburg to the late Albert and Florence (Houdishell) Keller.
She was a production worker for Knouse Food in Biglerville; a homemaker; a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Landisburg RR 1, Fraternal Order of Eagles Lodge 1299, Carlisle, White Circle Lodge 1, Carlisle; and an honorary member of Group 17 Cumberland County Farm Women.
Surviving are her husband, Chester D. Sherman; three sons, Wayne Myers and Carl Myers, both of Landisburg, and William Myers of Harrisburg; one daughter, Evelyn Potteiger of Landisburg; four stepdaughters, Charlene Brown of Shermans Dale, Beverly Casner of Loysville, Ruth Klinger of Bernville and Ann Woomer of Carlisle; three stepsons, Robert Sherman and Fred Sherman, both of Landisburg, and Donald Sherman of Enola; one sister, Blanche Ryan of Heather Place; one half-brother, Bill Keller of New Cumberland; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 13 at her church with the Revs. George C. Martz and E. Levain Fouse officiating. Burial was in Mt. Zion Cemetery, Landisburg RR 1.
Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, handled arrangements.
Paul L. Sherman, 72, of Landisburg, died Thursday, June 18, 1998 at the Church of God Home, Carlisle.
He was born July 16, 1925 at Kennedy's Valley, Landisburg RR 1 to the late Ray and Rachael (Baughman) Sherman.
He retired from Capital Products, Mechanicsburg, as a press operator, and had worked for Sheibley Landscaping, New Bloomfield. He was a member of the Landisburg Church of God, Landisburg, Landisburg Ambulance Club, Landisburg Fire Company and Carlisle Ambulance Company.
He was the widower of Betty F. Diddia Sherman. Surviving are a daughter, Sandra K. Knouse of Newport RR 3; a son, Robbin D. Sherman of Landisburg RR 1; two brothers, Chester Sherman of Landisburg and Dean Sherman of Shermans Dale; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Services were held June 22 at his church with the Rev. H. James Williams officiating. Burial was in Landisburg Cemetery.

Delores V. Shiffer, 63, of Millerstown died Saturday, Oct. 10, 1998 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
She was born March 26, 1935 at Toronto, Canada to Lillian P. (Blair) Fagan of Everett, Ontario, Canada, and the late Lyle P. Fagan.
She was a former tutor for the Perry County Literacy Council, Newport; a life member of Mifflintown VFW Post 5863 Auxiliary and D.A.V. Ladies Auxiliary; and a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, Liverpool.
In addition to her mother, surviving are her husband, Willard G. Shiffer; two sons, Dale E. of Myerstown and Lyle J. of Ft. Sill, Okla.; two daughters, Deborah C. Heisey of Mifflin and Adele L. Mixell of New Cumberland; one brother, Lee A. Fagan of Ontario, Canada; two sisters, Maureen J. Ludlow of Everett, Ontario, and Donna M. McAllister of Sudbury, Ontario; and nine grandchildren.
Services were held at the convenience of the family in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville with the Rev. Douglas Kelly officiating. Burial will be in Fort Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

Mark W. Shindel, 77, of Newport RR 2 died Monday, Sept. 7, 1998 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was born Jan. 20, 1921 in Annville to the late Clark E. and Sallie (Deininger) Shindel.
He was retired from HERCO; a self-employed electrician; an Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict; and a member of Newport Assembly of God and Newport VFW Post 34.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy M. Brodish-Shindel; two sons, Richard of Vermont and Scott of Wyomissing Hills; a daughter, Tina Ford of Mt. Gretna; two stepsons, Adrian Brodish of Williamsport and Daren Brodish of Thompsontown; two stepdaughters, Salyn Stover of Mechanicsburg and Dea Story of Idaho; three brothers, Robert of Annville, Earnest of Palmyra and George of Lebanon; two sisters, Ruth Waltermyer and Mary Cutman, both of Lebanon; and a granddaughter.
Services were held Sept. 10 in his church with the Rev. Gary Bellis officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.
Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, handled arrangements.

Neil E Shope, 78, of Pisgah State Road, Shermans Dale, died Monday, March 9, 1998 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
He was born Dec. 23, 1919 in Kistler to the late John E. and Ethel (Stroup) Shope.
He was a self-employed carpenter and heavy-equipment operator; a graduate of the former Ickesburg High School and Goetz Welding School; an Army veteran of World War II; and a member of Shermans Dale United Methodist Church, Shermans Dale Fire Company and New Bloomfield VFW Post 7463.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Towsey Shope; four sons, Larry, Dennis, Fred and Andrew, all of Shermans Dale; three daughters, Jean Kirk and Jill Kline, both of Shermans Dale, and Nancy Shope of Westland, Mich.; two half-sisters, Donna Deck of Pleasant Gap and Carole Dunkle of Camp Hill; 19 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 12 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Paul Murphy officiating. Burial was in Young's United Methodist Cemetery with military honors
