Arthur M. Smith, 74, of Royer Road, Carlisle, died Saturday, July 4, 1998 in Carlisle Hospital.
He was born Nov. 12, 1923 in Buckman Valley to the late Clarence H. and Christine (Carr) Smith.
He was a retired educator and administrator for the West Perry School District. He also taught in the Carlisle School District, where he coached football; was a teacher, superintendent and football coach in South Middleton School District; and was principal of W.G. Rice Elementary School. He held a bachelor of arts degree from Gettysburg College and a master's degree from the Pennsylvania State University. He also was an ordained Brethren minister, having served interim pastorates at Boiling Springs, Blain and Carlisle; and was an Army veteran of World War II and Korea, serving with medics.
Surviving are his wife, Esther Royer Smith; two daughters, Deborah Whistler of Indiana and Kristin Adams of Florida; one son, Douglas M. of Indiana; and four grandchildren.
Services were held July 8 in First Church of the Brethren, Carlisle, with the Revs. Irvin Heishman, David Markey and Edward Poling officiating.
Ronan Funeral Home, Carlisle, handled arrangements.

Clair E. Shatto Sr., 86, of Crescent Court, New Cumberland, died Thursday, April 16, 1998 at home.
He was born Aug. 6, 1911 at Shermans Dale to the late Walter C. and Wave Ethel (McNeal) Shatto.
He was a retired employee of Penn Central Railroad; and a member of Paxton United Methodist Church, Harrisburg, Transportation-Communications International Union AFL-CIO-CLC, and the PRR Veterans Employee Association, Harrisburg.
Surviving are his wife, Doris Hay Shatto; one son, Clair E. Jr. of Harrisburg; one sister, Gertrude E. Shatto of Harrisburg; four grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Services were held April 18 in Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Wayne Bender officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Duncannon.
Memorial contributions may be made to his church, 3550 N. Progress Ave., Harrisburg 17110.
Clara J. Stees, 83, formerly of Dauphin, died Tuesday, Sept. 29, 1998 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
She was a member of Trinity Free Church, Dauphin.
She was the widow of Harry D. Stees.
Surviving are two sons, Eli A. Mikos Jr. of Manistique, Mich., and Stephen E. Mikos of Duncannon; two daughters, Mary Lou Hall of Cookeville, Tenn., and Alice Faye Wilson of New Bloomfield; 13 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 1 in Stone & Murray Funeral Home, New Cumberland. Burial was in Dauphin Memorial Park.
Charles M. Stump, 76, of E. Penn Street, Carlisle, died Wednesday, Feb. 4, 1998 in Carlisle Hospital.
He was born July 17, 1921 in Philadelphia to the late Charles T. and Caroline J. (Carr) Stump.
He retired from TRW of Harrisburg and formerly worked for Frog Switch Mfg. Co. of Carlisle; of the Catholic faith; and was an Army veteran of World War II.
Surviving are his wife, Mary V. Brownawell Adams Stump; a stepdaughter, Ann M. Rice of Elliottsburg RR 1; a stepson, William Adams of Carlisle; a brother, Arthur of Philadelphia; five stepgrandchildren; seven stepgreat-grandchildren; and four stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
Services were held at the convenience of the family.
Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, handled arrangements.
Charles T. Strawser, 79, of Thompsontown RR 1, formerly of Newport, died Wednesday, April 8, 1998 in Lewistown Hospital.
He was born Aug. 18, 1918 in Perry County to the late Cloyd and Daisy (Lesher) Strawser.
He was a World War II veteran.
Surviving are a sister, Grace Myers, and a brother, Paul Lesher, both of Newport; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Cloyd.
Services were held April 13 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Paul Case officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

Evelyn A. Snyder, 57, of Landisburg RR 2 died Wednesday, July 1, 1998 at home.
She was born Dec. 16, 1940 in Harrisburg to the late Kenneth and Marie (Rapp) Seiler.
She had been employed by Pennsylvania Legal Services, New Bloomfield, and formerly worked at Uni-Mart, Lancaster. She was a member of the Women of the Moose 232, Newport.
Surviving are a daughter, Jeanne M. Stephens of Carlisle; two sons, Michael D. and William K., both of Landisburg; one brother and one sister, Robert Seiler and Blanche Bowersox, both of Liverpool; and eight grandchildren.
Memorial services were held July 7 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Alan K. Foor officiating. Burial was private.
Elsie V. Sheaffer, 76, of East Pennsboro Twp., formerly of Duncannon, died Sunday, April 26, 1998 in Holy Spirit Hospital.
She was born August 10, 1921 in Wheatfield Twp. to the late Edward L. and Fianne (Smith) Baker.
She formerly worked for Hope Dress Factory and was a member of Roseglen United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Frank K. Sheaffer.
Surviving are two sons, Donald N. Charles of Enola and Edgar H. Charles of Coal Twp.; three sisters, Betty Shearer of Mechanicsburg, Helen Lizman of Carlisle and Freida Warham of Harrisburg; a brother, William Clouser of Newport; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 29, at Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Randall Goshorn officiating. Burial will be in Snyder Cemetery, New Bloomfield.

George L. Smith, 59, of Petersburg Road, Carlisle, formerly of Landisburg RR 1, died Sunday, March 15, 1998 in Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born March 8, 1939 at Landisburg RR 1 to the late Charles E. and Mabel M. (Dahr) Smith.
He was employed by Leer Industries, Carlisle; and was a member, deacon and former trustee of Kennedy's Valley Church of God, Landisburg RR 1.
Surviving are a companion, Beatrice A. Shearer of Carlisle; two sisters, Evelyn M. Cline of Gardners and Lydia S. Sheaffer of Shermans Dale. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Paul L. and John R. Smith.
Services were held March 18 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Malcolm Martin officiating. Burial was Mt. Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Landisburg RR 1.

Harold C. Swinn, 57, of Pierce Road, Marysville, died Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998 in Waymart Health Center, Waymart.
He was self-employed and an Army veteran.
Surviving are a brother, Russell E. of Carlisle; and seven sisters, Beatrice E. Flow of Parkland, Fla., Louella M. Duncan, Ruth E. Smith, Grace P. Richwine, Martha E. Frey and Shirley M. Shellehamer, all of Marysville, and Alma C. Smiley of Shermans Dale.
Services were held Oct. 12 in Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville. Burial was in Griers Point Cemetery, Rye Twp.
