Charles H. Bechtel Sr., 63, of Perry Manor, Newport, died Friday, Dec. 2, 2000 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was born Sept. 10, 1937 in Ashland to the late Marlin and Margaret Bechtel.
He was a retired carpenter; an Army veteran; and a member of the Kulpmont VFW Post.
Surviving are his wife, Janice B. (Petrovich) Bechtel; three sons, Marlin W. of Newport, Charles H. Jr. of Sunbury and Robert W. of Shamokin; two daughters, Susan L. Whery of Shamokin and Janice B. Daniels of Kulpmont; a brother, Robert Bechtel of Ashland; a sister, Margaret Bechtel of New Jersey; and eight grandchildren.
Services will be held at 10 a.m., Dec. 7, in Newport Assembly of God with the Rev. Anthony C. Hill officiating. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield is handling arrangements.
James R. Beecroft, 67, of N. Lincoln Street, Duncannon, died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2000 in Hershey Medical Center.
He was born Dec. 8, 1932 in Butler County, Schuylkill County, to the late Robert and Ethel (Temple) Beecroft.
He retired from the state Department of General Services; was an Army veteran of the Korean War; a member and former deacon of Duncannon Presbyterian Church; and a member of Friendship Fire Company in Butler Twp.
Surviving are his wife, Mary V. Miller Beecroft, and two brothers, Harry and Joseph, both of Frackville.
Services were held Jan. 22 in his church with the Rev. William Mielke officiating. Burial was in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

Harry H. "Pap" Bennett, 70, of Newport died Wednesday, April 5, 2000 in Polyclinic Hospital, Harrisburg.
He was the son of the late James and Pearl M. (Britch) Bennett.
He was a part-time employee for Advance Auto Parts and was retired from Yellow Freight Trucking Company; an Army veteran of World War II; and a member of Teamsters Union Local 776 and American Legion Post 1001, Harrisburg.
Surviving are a son, L. Bill Page of Duncannon; a daughter, Linda S. Parrish, with whom he lived; two stepdaughters, Regina L. Lamont of Missouri and Lissa G. Walker of Wellsburg; two brothers, Emerson M. Bennett of Steelton and Joe L. Bennett of Harrisburg; two sisters, Beatrice V. Roulette of South Carolina and Darlene Bennett of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Troy Bennett, Jordon Parrish, Stephanie Page and Justin Page; and a great-granddaughter, Emily Bennett.
Services were held April 10 in Neumyer Funeral Home, Harrisburg. Burial was in East Harrisburg Cemetery, Harrisburg.

Guy F. Bitting, 76, of Harrisburg died Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2000 at home.
He was born April 29, 1924 at Liverpool to the late Miles H. and Sallie (Shetterly) Bitting.
He was the retired founder and chief executive officer of Bitting Recreation Inc., an Army Air Force veteran of World War II; a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, William Snyder Lodge 756 F&AM; and a life member of Tall Cedars Lebanon Forest 43, Zembo Temple and Harrisburg Consistory.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam E. Ernest Bitting; a son, Randy G. of Harrisburg, and two daughters, Julie A. Mahan and Tracey L. Reading, all of Harrisburg; two brothers, Park of Valrico, Fla., and Glen of Burnham; a sister, Mabel Reisinger of Elliottsburg; and six grandchildren.
Services were held Dec. 8 in Hoover Funeral Home and Crematory, Harrisburg, with the Rev. Rawley D. Boone officiating. Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

William H. Bockman Sr., 74, of Blain RR 1, formerly of New Castle, Del., died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000 at home.
He was born Feb. 19, 1926 in Wilmington, Del., to the late William and Ella (Smith) Bockman.
He was retired from Charles H. Burns Inc., Millerstown; a former Toboyne Twp. supervisor; an Army veteran of World War II; a life member of Jackson Lodge 19, Delaware City, Del.; and a member of Moose Lodge 925, Millerstown, Dry Run American Legion 232, Newport American Legion 177, DAV 49 of Newport, Newport VFW 34, New Bloomfield VFW 7463, Newport Social Order of Owls, Bartender Association of Newport, Blain Ambulance Club and Eagles Aerie 1299 of Carlisle.
Surviving are his wife, Barbara L. Solomon Bockman; a daughter, Bonnie L. Cirino of Newark, Del.; three sons, William Jr. of Townsend, Del., Bruce A. of Wilmington and Brian L. of Korea; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Ethel M. Briner, 75, of Gettysburg Pike, Mechanicsburg, formerly of Landisburg, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000 in Thornwald Nursing Home, Carlisle.
She was born Aug. 20, 1925 at Landisburg RR 1 to the late Aaron G. and Carrie B. (Bustard) Morrison.
She was retired from the former Naval Ships Parts Control Center; a graduate of the former Landisburg High School; and a member of OES Chapter 544, Mechanicsburg, Landisburg Fire Company, Carlisle Ambulance Association and Kennedy's Valley Church of God, where she had been a pianist.
She was the widow of Ralph E. Briner, who died July 17, 1978.
Surviving are a brother, Aaron W. "Mose" Morrison, and a nephew, Aaron K. Morrison, both of Landisburg RR 2.
Services were held Oct. 11 at her church with the Rev. Malcolm E. Martin officiating. Burial was in Landisburg Cemetery.

Clarence E. "Bucky" Brownawell, 79, of Spring Road, Shermans Dale, died Friday, Nov. 17, 2000 in the Tremont Rehabilitation Center.
He was born Sept. 1, 1921 in Carlisle.
He was a former Cumberland County dairy farmer and attended Great Hope Baptist Church, Carlisle.
Surviving are two sons, Emerson Brownawell of Shermans Dale and Lloyd Sheaffer of Carlisle; a daughter, Barbara Neal of Carlisle; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Nov. 20 in Hoffman-Roth Funeral Home, Carlisle, with the Rev. Dale E. Barrick officiating. Burial was in Waggoners United Methodist Church Cemetery, Carlisle.

Drusilla M. Burd, 82, formerly of Hallmark North, Hershey, died Thursday, Jan. 13, 2000 at Hershey Medical Center.
She was born July 4, 1917 in Newport to the late George and Flossie M. (Hoffman) Acker.
She was a former houseparent for Milton Hershey School; formerly worked for Hauer's Department Store, Hummelstown, and the Milton Hershey School Orchards; and a member, choir member and former Sunday school teacher of Zion Lutheran Church, Union Deposit, and member of its adult Sunday school class and Zion Women, and Hummelstown Senior Center; and enjoyed baking, cooking and crafts.
She was the widow of Kenneth F. Burd Sr.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth F. Burd Jr. of Hershey; two daughters, Judith M. Hiler of Hummelstown and Mary Alice Schiavoni of Annville; a brother, Henry A. Acker of Newport; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by a grandson.
Services were held Jan. 17 in her church. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
