Joe S. Saltsburg, 85, of New Bloomfield RR 1 died Sunday, Jan. 9, 2000 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
He retired from the former Navy Ships Parts Control Center, Mechanicsburg; an Army veteran of World War II; a member of Roseglen United Methodist Church and Duncannon American Legion Post 340; and a softball coach and player in the Perry-Juniata League.
Surviving are his wife, Joyce Hartz Saltsburg; four daughters, Sharon Wilson and Mary Ann Camacci, both of New Bloomfield, JoAnn Gallagher of Marysville and Bonnie Morrison of Duncannon; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 12 in his church. Burial was in Landisburg Cemetery.
Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, handled arrangements.

Gail E., Sanders, 84, of the Evangelical Congregational Church Retirement Village, Myerstown, and formerly of Loysville RR 1 and W. Richland Ave., Myerstown, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000 in the village.
She was born Jan. 20, 1916 at Loysville RR 1 to the late John and Mame (Harris) Nesbit.
She was a retired clerk from the state Department of Revenue, Harrisburg; a 1935 graduate of the former Landisburg High School; and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Loysville RR 1.
She was the widow of Patrick N. Sanders, who died in 1986.
Surviving are a son, H. Jerry of Myerstown; a daughter, Linda I. Pines of Springfield, Va.; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17, in Evangelical Church Retirement Village, 7 W. Park Ave., Myerstown, with the Rev. David H. Reed officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery.
Viewing will be from 1 to 2 p.m., Thursday, in the village.

Harry J. "Jim" Schmidt, 49, of Lebanon, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000 in Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Lebanon.
He was born March 1, 1951 in Chicago Heights, Ill., to Harry C. and Irma (Montgomery) Schmidt.
He was a graduate of Tinley Park High School, Tinley Park, Ill., and the Career Academy School of Broadcasting, Chicago; a radio disc jockey; an Army veteran of the Vietnam Conflict; and enjoyed writing and music.
Surviving are a brother, John W., and a sister, Carole LaPlante, both of Dauphin; and nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Nov. 15 in Dauphin Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. John Spoat officiating.
Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

Chester Lee "Chet" Schrader, 36, of Richfield RR 2 died Thursday, Sept. 7, 2000 in Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born June 16, 1964 in Sunbury to Joanne C. Longacre Schrader of Richfield RR 2 and the late James Robert Schrader, who died in 1990.
He was a Protestant and enjoyed car rides and playing dominoes.
In addition to his mother, surviving are three brothers, James R. of Selinsgrove RR 1 and Steven C. and Michael A., both of Millerstown RR 1; and three sisters, Rosetta J. Shellenberger of Lewistown, Emma L. Beers of Richfield RR 2 and Patricia A. Yetter of Liverpool RR 1.
Services were held Sept. 9 in Garman Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Mills, with pastor Warren L. Peachey officiating. Burial was in St. Peter's Cemetery, Millerstown RR 2.
Margaret N. Schuchman, 86, of Spring Road, Shermans Dale died Friday, Oct. 13, 2000 in the Church of God Home, Carlisle.
She was born Aug. 7, 1914 at Shermans Dale to the late Walter and Minerva (Ruhl) Shearer.
She and her late husband had owned and operated Schuchman's Wood & Coal, Carlisle, Schuchman's Fruit Dale Farms, a dairy farm, Schuchman's Ferguson Farm Equipment and Schuchman's Used Cars, and had sold Christmas trees, all at Shermans Dale.
She was a notary; a member of the Church of Christ in Carlisle; and attended Young's United Methodist Church, Shermans Dale.
She was the widow of Richard L. Schuchman.
Surviving are two daughters, Delores M. Lowe of Shermans Dale and Helena S. McAlister of Carlisle; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 17 in the Church of Christ with Gary Cook officiating and Edward Dyche assisting at graveside. Burial was in Young's United Methodist Cemetery.

Paul E. Shaffer, 82, of Marina Drive, Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of Duncannon and Forestville, Md., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2000 in Spohn South Hospital.
He was born Oct. 31, 1917 in Duncannon to the late Joseph and Minnie (Beers) Shaffer.
He was a retired poultry retailer from College Hill Poultry, Fredericksburg; a past master of Sojourner's Lodge 51 F&AM, Potomac Lodge 5 F&AM, Commandery Chapter 1, and York Cross of Honor, all of Washington, D.C.
Surviving are his wife, Vivian Dauberman Shaffer; a daughter, Joan Carpenter of Corpus Christi; three grandchildren; and five great-grandsons.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Jan. 20, in Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. B. Michael Brossman officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.
Viewing will be from 10 to 10:45 a.m., Jan. 20, in the funeral home, with Masonic services at 10:45.
Kenneth A. Sheaffer, 81, of Pisgah State Road, Shermans Dale, died Monday, Feb. 7, 2000 in Carlisle Hospital.
He was born Aug. 9, 1918 in Dellville to the late Andrew and Catherine (Zeigler) Sheaffer.
He retired from Frog Switch & Manufacturing Co., Carlisle; and was a member of Young's United Methodist Church, Shermans Dale Fire Company, Maple Hill Hunt Club in Arnot, and Eagles Aerie 1229 and the White Circle Club, both in Carlisle, and past treasurer and on the board of directors for the Snyder's Cemetery Association.
Surviving are his wife of 54 years, G. Louise Printz Sheaffer; two sons, Ray K. and Bruce C., both of Shermans Dale; a daughter, Anita, at home; a brother, Lester Z. of Shermans Dale; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 11 in his church with the Rev. R. Bruce Woolever officiating. Burial was in the church Cemetery.

Esther M. Shearer, 86, formerly of Dellville Road, New Bloomfield, died Saturday, Jan. 1, 2000 in Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.
She was born April 20, 1913 in Dauphin County to the late George H. and Clara "Hoffman" Brown.
She had worked for G.C. Murphy, Sportsmen's Inn and Wonder Why, and had attended the Buckwheat Valley and Donnally Mills schools.
She was the widow of Lawrence S. Shearer.
Surviving are a son and daughter-in-law, Lawrence S. and Delores E. Shearer of New Bloomfield; a sister, Katherine Arbogast of Millerstown; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 5 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with pastor Robert Stump officiating. Burial was in Cumberland Valley Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
