Charles F. "Skitch" Mattern, 74, of S. Third Street, Newport, died Tuesday, Feb. 15, 2000 at home.
He was born June 27, 1925 in Middleburg to the late Felker L. and Verna E. (Rumfelt) Mattern.
He retired from what was then known as Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.; was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II; a Lutheran; a member of American Legion Post 177, VFW Post 34, Moose Lodge 1562, the Social Order of Owls and Hunters Valley Sportsmen's Club; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving are his wife, Agnes C. Mattern; a son, Robert J. of Newport; a daughter, Debra A. Hetrick of Woodbridge, Va.; and two grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 18 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Cheryl Dorman officiating. Burial was in Wrights Cemetery, Millerstown.

Chester L. McCullough, 81, of Chandra Drive, Duncannon, died Saturday, Feb. 5, 2000 in Stonebridge Health & Rehabilitation Center.
He was a retired clergyman with the United Methodist Church; an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II; and a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Dauphin.
Surviving are his wife, Elsie M. of York; four sons, the Rev. David P. and Michael L., both of York, the Rev. Gary L. of Harrisburg and Chester C. of Columbia; 10 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 8 in the Jesse H. Geigle Funeral Home. Burial was in Grantville Cemetery.

Dustin E. McAlpine, 17, of Newport RR 3 died Sunday, Sept. 10, 2000 of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
He was born Dec. 21, 1982 in Harrisburg.
He was a senior at Newport High School, a member of its golf, basketball and baseball teams, vice president of PYEA and a peer mediator; a Lutheran; and a Green Bay Packers fan.
Surviving are his parents, Richard and Theresa Smink McAlpine; two brothers, Jesse A. and Kelby P., both at home; his paternal grandmother, Barbara McAlpine of Middletown; maternal grandparents, John and Jean Smink of Middletown; and paternal great-grandmother, Clara Fitch of Calais, Maine.
Services were held Sept. 14 in Family Life Center, Shortcut Road, Newport, with pastor Frank Nemeth Jr. officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.

Dorothy R. Martin, 71, formerly of Elliottsburg, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000 in Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Carlisle.
She was born Feb. 20, 1929 at Elliottsburg to the late G. Herbert and Winifred (Sheibley) Freeman.
She was an orderly at the former Perry County Home, Loysville.
Surviving are a son, John C. Martin of Elliottsburg; a daughter, Debra K. Flachsmann of Carlisle; a brother, Richard W. Freeman of South Korea; a sister, Arlene Jones of Hummelstown; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Services were held Dec. 18 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Miriam L. Nicholson officiating. Burial was in Blain Cemetery.
Dorothy R. Magee, 90, of Surry Place Nursing Home, Bradenton, Fla., formerly of Highspire and Newport, died Saturday, March 18, 2000 in the nursing home.
She was born June 11, 1909 in Harrisburg to the late George and Bertha (Hains) Winter.
She was owner of the former Magee's Cut Rate, Newport, and operated a flea market stand in Eliz-abethtown; and a member of Market Street United Methodist Church, Newport, and Perry Chapter 459 of OES.
She was the widow of Charles E. Magee.
Surviving are a son, Charles W. of Bradenton; a sister, Ruth Laverty of Newport; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 22 at Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. David Arnold officiating. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Duncannon.

Esther I. Miller, 98, formerly of S. Front Street, Liverpool, died Monday, March 27, 2000 in Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.
She was born Feb. 17, 1902 in Lenkerville to the late Benjamin and Sarah (Gunderman) Lower.
She was a member of Liverpool United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.
She was the widow of Albert S. Miller, who died Aug. 13, 1950.
Surviving are six sons, Frederick of Marysville, Lewis of Millerstown, Dennis of Palmyra and Ronald, Richard and Gerald, all of Liverpool; four daughters, Sarah Reinard, Dorothy Leach and Floranna Leach, all of Port Trevorton, and Nancy Willard of Liverpool; a brother, Guy F. Lower of Hershey; 33 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 13 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, John and C. Barry Miller; two daughters, Geraldine Lower and Marilyn Schrader; one grandson; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held March 30 in Garman Funeral Home, Liverpool, with the Rev. Peter Beddia officiating. Burial was in Liverpool Union Cemetery.

E. Jane Mohler, 72, of Main Street, Thompsontown, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
She was born Nov. 12, 1927 in Washington, D.C. to the late Charles and Edith (Adams) Trout.
She was retired from the Harrisburg State Hospital; had been a nursing administrator for several nursing homes; and was a member of Liverpool United Methodist Church.
She was the widow of Daniel A. Mohler.
Surviving are a son, Daniel F. of Youngstown, Ohio; three daughters, Mary Sloan of Statesville, N.C., Edith E. Lesh of Newport and Emily Mitchell of Lewistown; a brother, Clifford Trout of Florida; 11 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Services were held Jan. 6 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Gary Bellis officiating. Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.

Forrest G. Myers Jr., 73, of Paradise Road, Duncannon, died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was born Nov. 12, 1926 in Wheatfield Twp. to the late Forrest G. Sr. and Annabelle (Arnold) Myers.
He retired from the former Pennsylvania Power & Light Co.; was a Korean War veteran; and a member of American Legion Post 340 and VFW Post 255, both of Duncannon.
Surviving are his wife, Cordella Jacobs Myers; a son, F. Gregg III of Linglestown; a brother, Lawrence, and two sisters, Hannah Owszarek and Mary Mutzabaugh, all of Duncannon; and four grandchildren.
Graveside services were held in Duncannon Cemetery.
Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

Frank K. Miller, 80, of Idle Road, Marysville, died Sunday, Jan. 2, 2000 at home.
He retired from the East Pennsboro School District and was a former employee of the Bethlehem Steel Corp., Steelton; former owner of Miller's Body Shop; an Army veteran; and a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, Marysville.
Surviving are his wife, Miriam C. Gouse Miller; six daughters, Doris Barrick of Duncannon, Esther Rupley and Margaret Varner, both of Marysville, Mable Bartles and Deborah Brown, both of West Fairview, and Kathaleen Leiby of Mechanicsburg; five sons, Charles of Newport, Ralph of Duncannon, Miles of Marysville, Paul of Franklintown and David of Enola; one sister, Margaret Reed of Lewisburg; 30 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sons, John and Jeremiah Miller.
Services were held Jan. 6 in his church. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.

Forrest Michael Myers Jr., 36, of Pine Street, Liverpool, formerly of Duncannon, died Friday, April 7, 2000 at home.
He was born Sept. 17, 1964 in Harrisburg to Forrest M. Sr. and Jo Ann Rudy Myers of Duncannon RR 2.
He was a 1982 graduate of Newport High School; a Newport Elementary wrestling coach; and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his parents, surviving are two sons, Joel M. and Travis M., and a daughter, Ashley, all of Newport; a sister, Tina Myers Hageman of Deerfield Beach, Fla.; and his maternal grandfather, Ralph L. Rudy, and paternal grandfather, Lawrence G. Myers Sr., both of Duncannon.
Services were held April 11 in Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Gary R. Bellis officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.
