Ivan B. "Sam" Bitting, 61, of Newport died Wednesday, July 4, 2001 at home.
He was born Oct. 28, 1939 in Newport to the late Leaman and Ethel N. (Murphy) Bitting.
He was the owner and operator of Bittings in Newport; governor of Newport Loyal Order of Moose 1562, where he achieved the Pilgrim of Merit Degree in 1993; a member of Millerstown Moose 925, Newport Social Order of Owls and Newport Lions Club; and a lifetime member of Newport Fire Company.
Surviving are his wife, Connie L. Bitting; a son, Charles H. Bitting, and two daughters, Kaye Y. Bitting and Michelle L. Bitting, all of Newport; a brother, Park of Sunbury; a sister, Janice M. Howell of Newport; and five grandchildren, Jason, Ryan, Alisha, Zachery and Nicole.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sally Snyder.
Services were held July 7 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Revs. Paul Case and Philip Brenizer officiating. Burial was in Pine Grove Cemetery.

John Irvin Boyer, 95, of Bellview Avenue, Trenton, N.J., formerly of Duncannon, died Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2001 in Helene Fulde Memorial Hospital in Trenton.
He was born Jan. 15, 1906 in Wheatfield Twp., one of 17 children born to the late Samuel E. and Emmaretta (Stump) Boyer.
He was an Army veteran.
He was the widower of Josephine Boyer.
Surviving are two sisters, Ruth Reilly of Chesapeake, Va., and Mildred Hernansky of Dania, Fla., and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Feb. 17 in Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon. Burial was in Hill Cemetery, Watts Twp.
Louise A. Bell, 83, of N. High Street, Duncannon, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001 at her daughter's Duncannon home.
She was born March 4, 1917 in Oliver Twp. to the late Harry F. and Mary Jane (Biggs) Myers.
She had worked for the former Duncannon Dress Co. and Mutzabaugh's Market; was a member of Christ Lutheran Church and Duncannon Golden Age Club; and enjoyed embroidery baking cookies and making mints.
She was the widow of Gerald E. Bell.
Surviving are two sons, Jerry and Stephen M., and a daughter, Mary S. Stansfield, all of Duncannon; two sisters, Betty Geib of Hummelstown and Dot Richenbach of Loysville; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, James R. Bell.
Services were held Jan. 8 in her church with the Rev. Paul Blank officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.
Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, handled arrangements.

Laura E. Shaffer Bopp, 102, of Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon, formerly of Marysville and Johnstown, died Thursday, July 19, 2001 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
She was a member of Walnut Grove Church of the Brethren, Johnstown.
She was the widow of Louis J. Bopp.
Surviving are a daughter, Audrey Bopp Little Supko of Marysville; a son, Louis J. of Port Richey, Fla.; five grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Johnstown.

Linda L. Brubaker, 60, of Sixth Street, Newport, died Saturday, Aug. 25, 2001 at home.
She was born March 26, 1941 in Carlisle to the late John L. and Ruth E. (Flickinger) Cumbler.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, New Bloomfield; enjoyed bird-watching, cats, crafts and spending time with her grandchildren; and contributed to an Internet support group for people with brain injuries.
Surviving are her husband, Lester L. Brubaker; three sons, Jeffrey A. Myers of New Bloomfield and Gregory D. Myers and Michael S. Myers, both of Newport; a stepson, Philip A. Brubaker of Eldersburg, Md.; a daughter, Christine J. Gardner of Shermans Dale; a sister, B. Sue Smith of New Carrollton, Md.; and seven grandchildren.
Services were held Aug. 28 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Robert P. Knight officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

Maude Belcher, 75, of Marysville, formerly of Harrisburg, died Monday, May 7, 2001 at home.
She was a former cook at the Tops Restaurant and had been a nursing assistant at Harrisburg State Hospital.
She was the widow of Harold Belcher.
Surviving are a daughter, Charlena R. Belcher of Marysville; two sisters, Emma Lou Johnson of Harrisburg and Maggie Smith of New York City; a brother, Fred Swanson of Harrisburg; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mary E. Byers, 103, formerly of N. Fourth Steet, Newport, died Monday, Feb. 19, 2001 in Kinkora Pythian Home, Duncannon.
She was born Jan. 25, 1898 in Tuscarora Twp. to the late Hiram and Elsie (Sowers) Burd.
She was a member of Market Street United Methodist Church, Newport, Daughters of the American Revolution, Newport Garden Club, Perry County Historical Society, Covered Bridge Society and Newport Senior Citizens Center.
She was the widow of Walter D. Byers.
Surviving are two sons, Donald P. of New Bloomfield and Luther S. of Mechanicsburg; three daughters, Kathryn A. Sheaffer of Carlisle, Virginia W. Dowdrick of Florida and Mary E. Fissel of Enola; three sisters, Minnie Hummel and Mildred Cox, both of Newport, and Elizabeth Berstler of Middletown; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 23 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. Jerry Donahue officiating. Burial was in Newport Cemetery.

M. Louise Boyer, 82, of Loysville RR 2 died Tuesday, May 15, 2001 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
She was born Oct. 5, 1918 at Landisburg RR 1 to the late Joseph D. and Edith G. (Gutshall) Bousum.
She was a member of the Blain Fire Company Auxiliary, Blain Ambulance Club and Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association; a cat fancier; and enjoyed gardening and flowers.
She was the widow of Harry F. Boyer.
Surviving are a daughter, G. Louise Peck of Loysville RR 2; three grandsons; and three great-grandchildren.
Services were held May 19 in Nickel Funeral Home, Loysville, with the Rev. Rick D. Schoenly officiating. Burial was in Mount Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Landisburg RR 1.
Myrtle M. Barnes, 89, of Tuscarora Path, Ickesburg, died Monday, July 9, 2001 in Carlisle Regional Medical Center.
She was born April 27, 1912 in Saville Twp. to the late William L. and Olive (Heinbaugh) Weibley.
She was a retired seamstress from Lyon's Fashions, Millerstown; a member of Donnally Mills United Methodist Church, Millerstown RR 1, and the Ickesburg Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary; and enjoyed flower gardening.
She was the widow of Roscoe M. Barnes.
Surviving are two daughters, Joanne E. Fritz of Ickesburg and Ivetta M. Neidigh of Blain; a sister, N. Emma Berrier of Loysville; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a grandson, Ronald M. Neidigh.
Services were held July 12 in her church with the Rev. James R. Behrens officiating. Burial was in Blain Cemetery.
