Fern McCoy Sanderson, 83, of Chestnut Street, Marysville, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001 at her daughter's home in Marysville.
She was retired from the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission, and also worked for the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue; a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, Marysville, Retired State Workers of Pennsylvania, Golden Age Club of Marysville and Ladies Auxiliary of the Marysville Fire Company; and enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and boating on the Susquehanna River, and camping at Happy Acres.
She was the widow of Kenneth Veron Sanderson.
Surviving are two daughters, Mary L. Little of Marysville and Linda K. Paden of Mt. Pleasant, Tenn.; a brother, Chester Dissinger of Marysville; seven grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two children, Cathy A. Simmons and Kenneth Dissinger Sanderson.
Services were held Jan. 13 in Shalonis Funeral Home, Marysville. Burial was in Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Marysville.

George W. Sheriff Jr., 85, formerly of Millerstown, died Saturday, April 28, 2001 in Stonebridge Rehabilitation Center, Duncannon.
He retired from Brenner & Sons Distributors and enjoyed stamp collecting.
Surviving are two sons, George E. of New York and Kenneth W. of Carlisle; a daughter, Mary E. of Mechanicsburg; three sisters, Miriam Drayer of Camp Hill, Evelyn Hull of Shiremanstown and Ruth Sheriff of Harrisburg; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held May 3 in St. James Cemetery, Seven Stars.
Neumyer Funeral Home, Harrisburg, handled arrangements.
George Wesley Swengel, 58, of York died Monday, June 25, 2001 at home.
He was born July 21, 1942 in Plainfield, N.J., to the late Robert and Elizabeth (Miller) Swengel
He was a former potter and was a member of Greater Grace of Carlisle Church.
Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Alice F. Weaver Swengel; five sons, Dennis Leischner, Troy Swengel, Thomas Leischner and Darren Swengel of York, and Jude Sminkey of Vermont; three daughters, Carmen Cane of Baltimore, Md., Elizabeth Swengel of York and Ealora Swengel of North Carolina; 14 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
A celebration of life service was held at Greater Grace of Carlisle Church, Carlisle on June 30 with pastor Ray Kosciolek and other assisting pastors officiating the service. There was a private burial.

Herman E. Straw, 78, of Susquehanna Lutheran Village, Millersburg, died Sunday, July 8, 2001 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was born May 18, 1923 in Halifax Twp., Dauphin County, to the late Aaron and Annie (Campbell) Straw.
He formerly was employed by PP&L and was a former member of Matamoras Church of God.
Surviving are three sisters, Esther Baker of Halifax, Annie Kerstetter of Millersburg and Ruth Werner of Riverhead, N.Y.; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Services were held July 11 in Smith Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Philip Kneier officiating. Burial was in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, 1517 Cedar Cliff Drive, Camp Hill 17011.

Irvin E. "Duke" Sholley Jr., 75, of Saville Twp. died Thursday, March 8, 2001 at home.
He was born Nov. 18, 1925 in Easton to the late Irvin E. and Anna (Strunk) Sholley.
He retired as an account executive from Liberty Mutual; was a Navy veteran of World War II; a life member of Camp Hill VFW Post 7530; and a member of American Legion Post 177, Newport, and Carlisle Elks Lodge 578.
Surviving are a son, Craig B. of Carlisle, and two sisters, Ruth Erb of Easton and Thelma Spencer of Martinsburg, W.Va.
Services were held March 12 in Myers Funeral Home, Newport, with the Rev. James Gold officiating. Burial was in Northhampton Memorial Shrine Cemetery, Easton.

Kenneth E. Smith Sr., 91, of N. River Road, Halifax, died Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2001 in Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill.
He was born Sept. 11, 1909 in Newport to the late George and Clara (Logan) Smith.
He was a mechanic and retired from the state Department of Labor and Industry.
He was the widower of E. Ruth Smith.
Surviving are a son, Kenneth E. Jr. of Mechanicsburg; a daughter, Virginia Mullen of Greencastle; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 25 in Boyer Funeral Home, Duncannon, with the Rev. Anthony C. Hill officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.
Kathryn Snyder, 83, of McKamy Blvd., Dallas, Texas, and formerly of Duncannon and Harrisburg, died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2001 in HCA Medical Center, Plano, Texas.
She was born Aug. 22, 1917 in Rarden, Ohio, to the late Walter Cleveland and Esther (Wikoff) Newman.
She and her husband owned and operated the Barbeque Cottage drive-through restaurant on N. Front Street, Harrisburg, from 1940 to 1970, and was a member of Duncannon Presbyterian Church.
She was the widow of Kenneth A. Snyder.
Surviving are a daughter, Susan S. Epley, with whom she lived in Dallas,; a son, Kenneth A. Jr., of Wayland, Mass.; a brother, Charles "Buss" Newman of Ohio; a sister, Bonnie Thornhill of Texas; and four grandchildren.
Services were held Feb. 17 in her church. Burial was in Duncannon Cemetery.

Lester A. Straw, 82, of Lincoln Street, Duncannon, died Friday, March 30, 2001 in Harrisburg Hospital.
He was born June 6, 1918 in Halifax to the late Arron and Annie (Campbell) Straw.
He retired as a car inspector from Amtrak; had been a board member and treasurer of the Union Cemetery Association; was a Navy veteran of World War II; a life member of Linglestown American Legion post; a member and former council member of Duncannon Church of God; and a member of Pennsylvania Railroad Retired Men's Association No. 3.
He was the widower of Lillian Kiner Straw.
Surviving are his wife, Emma Mae Barrick Straw; two stepsons, Donald Kiner of Middletown and David Kiner of Duncannon; two daughters, Elaine F. May of Duncannon and Betty S. Burd of Lewisberry; a stepdaughter, Mary Lou Yeager of Shermans Dale; a brother, Herman of Millersburg; three sisters, Esther Baker of Halifax, Annie Kerstetter of Millersburg and Ruth Werner of Riverhead, N.Y.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and stepgrand- and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services were held April 4 in his church with the Rev. Merrell Kephart and Dale Rosenberger officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Union Cemetery, Duncannon.

Lawson E. Steele, 72, of Rufus King Court, Enola, formerly of Duncannon, died Saturday, Oct. 13, 2001 at Hospice of Central Pennsylvania Slane Residence.
He was born May 29, 1929 in Watts Twp. to the late Jacob E. and Ruth (Ferguson) Steele.
He was retired from Big A Auto Parts; an Army veteran of the Korean War; a member of Duncan-non Presbyterian Church, Harrisburg Consistory, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest 43, Zembo Temple, Zembo Luncheon Club, Perry Lodge 458 F&AM and American Legion Post 340.
Surviving are his wife, Claire S. Steele; two daughters, Carol S. Amsden of Marysville and Gina L. Steele of Mechanicsburg; a sister, Marian Raub of Duncannon; and a granddaughter, Christine Amsden.
Services were held Oct. 17 in Smith Funeral Home, Duncan-non, with the Rev. James Parker officiating. Burial was in Duncan-non Cemetery.
