Roma C. Smith, 92, formerly of E. Main Street, New Bloomfield, died Saturday, July 7, 2001 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
She was born Nov. 25, 1908 in Dayton, Iowa, to the late Charles and Ida (Murphy) Coomer.
She retired in 1964 from the home economics department as a teacher at Carlisle High School; was a graduate of Frances Shimer School for Women and Iowa State University, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority; and a member of the Church of the Nativity, Newport.
She was the widow of Harry Sylvester Smith.
Surviving are a daughter, Ramey Smith de Cardenas of Madrid, Spain; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Charles.
Services were held July 10 in her church with the Rev. Canon William T. Warne officiating. Burial was in Bloomfield Cemetery.
Myers Funeral Home, Newport, handled arrangements.
Thelma M. Sweger, 87, of S. Bedford Street, Carlisle, died Wednesday, May 23, 2001 in ManorCare Heath Services, Carlisle.
She was born Nov. 3, 1913 in Carlisle to the late Elmer J. and Daisy (Snyder) Porter.
She retired from the James Wilson Hotel and was a former employee of the Beauford Motel; a member of the Salvation Army; and a life member of VFW Auxiliary Unit 477.
She was the widow of Walter W. Sweger, who died in 1965.
Surviving are two daughters, Delores E. Shearer and Faye L. Mullen, both of New Bloomfield; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Maynard "Sam" Sweger, who died in 1994, and a sister, Mildred Raymond.
Services were held May 26 in Ewing Brothers Funeral Home, Carlisle, with Brenda J. DeVault officiating. Burial was in LeTort Cemetery, Carlisle.
Memorial contributions may be made to Salvation Army, 20 E. Pomfret St., Carlisle 17013.
Thelma Smith Stevenson, 78, of Delanco, N.J., and formerly of Blain, died Friday, Aug. 24, 2001 in Rancocas Hospital, Willingboro, N.J.
She was born in Philadelphia to the late Walter and Martha (Wall) Gamble.
She was employed by Charles T. Gamble Electronics Manufacturing of Delanco, retiring in 1995 after 25 years of service in quality control; a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church, Willingboro, N.J., Mariam Rebekah Lodge 112, I.O.O.F., and Powhattan L.E.A. 30; an associate member of Mahoney Rebekah Lodge 428, I.O.O.F., New Bloomfield; and enjoyed needlework, gardening and reading.
She was the widow of Earl Smith and Robert Stevenson Sr.
Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Gotta and Debbe Wide, both of Delanco, and Robin Simonetta of Bloomsbury, N.J.; two stepsons, Robert Stevenson Jr. of Blain and Thomas Stevenson of Springfield Twp., N.J.; five grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, M. Eleanor Hill.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Sept. 1, in the Mausoleum of Odd Fellows Cemetery, Route 130 South, Burlington, N.J.
Page Funeral Home, Burlington, is handling arrangements.

Violet E. Shatto, 87, of Spring Road, Shermans Dale, died Friday, March 30, 2001 in Carlisle Hospital.
She was born Feb. 18, 1914 in Shermans Dale to the late Charles and Margarette (Adams) Souder.
She was a member of Shermans Dale United Methodist Church and the Shermans Dale Fire Company and Ambulance Club ladies auxiliary.
She was the widow of Richard S. Shatto, who died in 1990.
Surviving are two sons, Richard E. and Donald L. "Short," two daughters, Louise Bentsel and Dorothy "Dort" Morrison, and two brothers, William and Robert Souder, all of Shermans Dale; a sister, Helen Fenicle of Hershey; 10 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Shatto, who died in 1964.
Services were held April 3 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. N. Jefferson Brewster officiating. Burial was in Westminster Memorial Gardens, Carlisle.
William F. Shughart, 81, of Nayor Avenue, Clementon, N.J., formerly of New Bloomfield, died Sunday, March 11, 2001 in Kennedy Medical Hospital, Stratford, N.J.
He was born Feb. 20, 1920 in Enola to the late Clarence Telle and Addie (Kissinger) Shughart.
He retired as an industrial/aerospace engineer from Boeing Aircraft; had previously done engineering work for General Dynamics, Chrysler Missile Division and McDonnel/Douglas; was a 1937 graduate of the former Tressler High School, Loysville; a past grand master of Adams Lodge 319 F&AM, New Bloomfield; and a member of Christ Lutheran Church, New Bloomfield and VFW Post 6253, Berlin, N.J.
He was the widower of Mary Bretz Shughart, who died in 1997.
Surviving are three sons, William F. II of Oxford, Miss., Paul T. of Sasebo, Japan, and Gregory D. of Clementon, N.J.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Services were held March 16 in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield, with the Rev. Robert Knight officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Bloomfield Cemetery.
William F. Siegfried Jr., 76, of ManorCare Health Services, Carlisle, formerly of Shermans Dale, died Thursday, Sept. 20, 2001 in ManorCare.
He was born March 30, 1925 in Harrisburg to the late William F. Sr. and Elizabeth (Rollison) Siegfried.
He retired as a carpenter from T.R. Rollason & Son, Harrisburg, and had been a farmer; was an Army veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient; and a member of Steelton American Legion Post 420.
He was the widower of Katherine R. Campbell Siegfried.
Surviving are four sons, Gary W. of Marysville, Phillip E. of Green Park, David A. of Shermans Dale and Dudley L. of Landisburg RR 2; two brothers, Edward of Harrisburg and Eugene of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; three sisters, Laura Lingle, Alice Page and Elaine Ortenzio, all of Harrisburg; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Services were held Sept. 25 in Perry Alliance Church, Shermans Dale, withe the Revs. Corey Strictland and E. Levain Fouse officiating. Burial, with military honors, was in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Lower Paxton Twp.

William M. Smith Jr., 65, of Old State Road, Shermans Dale, died Sunday, Oct. 14, 2001 in Lebanon Veterans Affairs Medical Center.
He retired as a mechanical supervisor from Texas Eastern Transmission Corp.; was an Army veteran; a member of Shellsville VFW, Jonestown Perseverance Fire Company, Jonestown American Legion and Mifflintown Lodge 324 F&AM; and enjoyed hunting and gardening.
Surviving are his wife, Evelyn Lentz Smith; three sons, Thomas W. of Marysville, Craig A. of Etters and Jeffrey S. of Marysville; two brothers, James T. of Smithville, Okla., and Robert A. of McRae, Ark.; two sisters, Mary McClure of Centerville, Texas, and Helen Liles of McRae; and three grandchildren.
Services were held Oct. 18 in Strauss-Kreamer & Lum Funeral Home, Jonestown. Burial was in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery.

David A. Thebes, 35, of Centre Twp., New Bloomfield RR 2, died Wednesday, May 9, 2001 at home.
He was an employee of Morrow Builders.
Surviving are a son, Derek J.C. of Shermans Dale; his mother, Evelyn M. Thebes of Steelton; a brother, Robert M. of Cocoa, Fla.; two sisters, Nancy Thebes and Sharon Baughman, both of Elliottsburg; and a friend, Brian Magee.
Services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 17, in Boyer Funeral Home, New Bloomfield. Burial will be in Bloomfield Cemetery.
Gene L. Troy Sr., 72, of S. Franklin Street, Elizabethville, died Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2001 at home.
He was born Dec. 13, 1928 to the late Paul L. and Beatrice Mae (Reynolds) Troy.
He retired as a plant maintenance engineer for Hershey Creamery Company, Harrisburg; was a Navy veteran of the Korean War; and enjoyed attending short-track auto racing.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley Elaine Danner Troy of New Cumberland; five sons, Mickey of Millersburg, Terry of Newport, Jerry of Harrisburg, Timothy of Ocean City, Md., and Gene Jr. of Etters; two daughters, Vickie Troutman of Mt. Joy and Cheryl Curley of Elizabethville; two half-brothers, John Stewart of Enola and James Stewart of Harrisburg; two half-sisters, Audry Latchford of Harrisburg and Doris Lutz of Summerdale; 18 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Gifford M. "Skip" Troutman, 93, formerly of Greenwood Twp., Millerstown RR 2, died Saturday, Aug. 18, 2001 in Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield.
He was born May 25, 1908 in Juniata County to the late George R. Sr. and Alice (Forney) Troutman.
He farmed his entire life and had been employed by Greenwood Twp., working on township roads until retiring in 1970; and was educated in Greenwood Twp. rural schools.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Florence Viall Troutman, also of Perry Village; a daughter, Frances L. Snyder of Dallastown; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Horace, William and George Jr., and three sisters, Margaret Dagle, Toleda Cox and Minnie Ulsh.
Burial was in Pfoutz Valley United Methodist Church, Millerstown RR 2.
