Delores S. Ciaverelli

March 21, 1934 - January 30, 2005

Delores S. Ciaverelli, born March 21, 1934 in Philadelphia, went home to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on January 30, 2005. She was the loving wife of Philip C. Ciaverelli

and the adoring mother of Gregory and Anthony Ciaverelli. She is also survived by her ever faithful brothers Issac and Eshia Jacob,

a caring daughter-in-law Ginamarie and six grandchildren: Nicholas, Joseph, Vincent, Michael, Dominic and Roman Ciaverelli.

Delores “Dee” will be best remembered for her selfless acts of kindness and love of all people. Delores found solace and purpose after the passing of her beloved mother Elsie at the age of twelve. Her relationship with her gentle father Zacharia and fun loving brothers Jack, Issac and Eshia was instrumental in shaping her love of life, often quoting the phrase “Tomorrow Never Comes” as a positive way of encouraging others to make the most of every day.

She lived a life of service by always putting the needs of others first. Her devotion to the needy was evident in her countless acts of volunteering her time for others. From going to night school to learn sign language to better communicate with a nephew with special needs, to caring for her dear mother-in-law Antoinette and others by working as a volunteer at the St. Joseph’s Manor for the Elderly.

Dee’s marriage to her beloved Phil could best be described as “Magical”. They were both blessed with a model relationship that surpassed forty-seven years this past October. She lovingly cared and supported her two sons, again happily volunteering for school committees, team sports and extra curricular activities like the All Philadelphia Boys Choir and the All City Orchestra.

Her love for others went beyond her immediate family. Known as the “Mayor” of Afton Street, she developed a caring relationship with some of Philadelphia’s Sanitation Engineers, working together to keep the neighborhood clean and was often seen returning the empty trashcans to the doorsteps of her neighbors. Delores always made sure that others were put first; from caring for an elderly neighbors dog, being the first to arrive with containers of food when siblings and neighbors were admitted to the hospital, opening her home to the children of the neighborhood for candy and conversation to clearing snow and greeting a new neighbor with a smile and a sincere “how are you doing?”

She will always be remembered as a proud supporter of the Philadelphia Eagles and could be often seen debating game strategy with family and neighbors while making sure to bring her “signature radio and ear piece” to baby showers and other “lady-like” functions so that the men could be kept abreast of the most current score.

Most importantly, Delores always shared her love for the Lord Jesus Christ and his promise of eternal life! She spent every day in prayer for all the people she loved, and also those that needed love. She shared her prayers with thousands of others through the use of “prayer lines”, and face to face discussions, carrying on a ministry previously shared with her dear Aunt Nancy Timberlake.

The greatest gift that she left for all of us was her legacy that can be found in Matthew 5:14-16. “You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hid. No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl: instead he puts it on a lamp stand where it gives light for everyone in the house. In the same you must let your light shine before people so that they can see your good deeds and praise your father in heaven.”

Relatives and friends were invited to her viewings Friday, February 4, 2005 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. and Saturday, February 5, 2005 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the Wetzel and Son Funeral Home, 419 Huntingdon Pike, Rockledge and to her funeral mass Saturday, February 5, 2005 at 11:30 A.M. at Maternity B.V.M. Church, 9220 Old Bustleton Avenue, Philadelphia. Interment at Lawnview Cemetery, Rockledge, PA followed the funeral mass. Relatives and friends were also invited to a reception at Marco Polo Ristorante and Bar, 8080 Old York Road, Elkins Park, Pa. 19027 following the interment service

In lieu of flowers donations in her memory may be made to either The St. Vincent DePaul Society, 901 E. Luzerne Street, Philadelphia, PA 19124, Attention: Central Council or to The Little Sisters of the Poor, 5300 Chester Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19143-4993.
