Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, 2006, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. The Rev. Lee Galbraith will officiate.

Burial will be in Grandview Memorial Gardens, Champaign, Ill. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, Urbana.

He was born Aug. 7, 1916, in Beavertown, a son of Alfred and Lottle Wagner Lerch. He married Mary Barrett, on Nov. 8, 1941, in Decatur, Ill. Survivors include a son, Robert L. Lerch, of Haddonfield, N.J., daughters, Diane Sue Lerch, of Urbana, Ill., Donna K. Lerch-Ihnen, of Rantoul, Ill., and Debbie Lerch Walters, of Portland, Org.; sisters, Frances Leister, of East Petersburg, and Verna Fultz, of Lewistown; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lerch was an Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a rocket and missile engine mechanic at Chanute Air Force Base in Rantoul. Mr. Lerch also worked for Seus Company for 5 years and H&R Block for 25 years. Mr. Lerch was a member of Pennsylvania Avenue Baptist Church, Urbana. He enjoyed hiking, camping, sports and collecting rocks.

Viewing will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service, Wednesday.

John W. Kurtz

McVEYTOWN - John W. Kurtz, 67, of Ferguson Valley Road, McVeytown, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died at 6:07 a.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Sept. 5, 1938, in Naginey, he was a son of the late Herbert H. and Pauline V. (Frankhouser) Kurtz Sr. His wife, Rhoda M. (Swartz) Kurtz, whom he married July 22, 1960, survives.

Also surviving are children, Denise A. Bilger and husband Darle Jr., McVeytown, Gregory W. Kurtz, McVeytown, Rhonda S. Bumbaugh and husband James, Mount Union, Lori J. Sunderland and husband Alan, Lewistown; a sister, Delores Knepp and husband Thomas, Lewistown; four grandchildren, Shannon, Lisa, Ryan, Tia, and two great-grandchildren, Austin and Katurah.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.

Employed in machine shop I of Standard Steel, Burnham, he retired in 1996.

He was a member of the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, McVeytown, and was an avid Steelers, Pirates and Penn State fan.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, at the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Jerry Lee Miller officiating. Interment with military honors by VFW Post No. 7011 will be in Spring Run Cemetery.

Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Run Church of the Brethren, P.O. Box 333 McVeytown, PA 17051.

Sarah M. Groce

LEWISTOWN – Sarah M. Groce, 64, of 1401 Glenwood Ave., Lewistown, went to be with her Lord Wednesday, May 3, 2006, at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, Virginia Beach, Va.

Born March 31, 1942, in Lewistown, she was a daughter of the late George and Laura (Holley) Bittinger. Her husband, Marlin M. Groce Sr., whom she married April 29, 1961, survives.

Also surviving are children, Steven M. Groce, of McClure, Penny Hain and her husband, Jonathan, Marlin M. Groce Jr. and Wendy Groce, all of Lewistown, and grandchildren, Brandon and Kelly Hain.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been preceded in Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">death by two brothers.

She was a 1960 graduate of Chief Logan High School.

She was an active member and Sunday School teacher at Robinwood Avenue Chapel and she was a former member of Glenwood United Methodist Church.

She was a devoted wife and mother and loved her animals. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, reading, gardening, collecting and spending time with her family and friends.

Her funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 10, 2006, at Heller-Hoenstine Woodlawn Funeral Home, 200 N. Main St., Lewistown, with Mr. Larry Sassaman and Mr. David Jones officiating. Interment will be in Union Memorial Gardens, Mifflintown.

Her funeral will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Vera A. Brubaker

MIFFLINTOWN - Vera A. She is survived by one brother, Banks Rhine, Lewistown, and many nephews and nieces.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 11, 2006, at the Brown Funeral Homes Inc., 100 Bridge St., Mifflintown, with the Rev. Douglas Compton officiating. Interment will follow in the East Waterford Cemetery, East Waterford.

Viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service, Thursday, at funeral home.

Rebecca J. Krick

McCLURE - Rebecca J. She was a former resident of Grayuson View Assisted Living, where she had lived for the past four years. She was born Dec. 21, 1911, in Lewistown, a daughter of the late James H. and Rebecca (Woomer) Treaster. In 1934, she married the late LeRoy E. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure. Becky and her husband owned and operated the former Krick’s Restaurant from 1951 to 1963, in McClure. She had also worked at the former Standard Shirt Factory and the former Kirby Manufacturing as a machine operator. She had also participated in the McClure Volunteer Fire Co. Ladies Auxiliary for many years. She was proud of her Treaster heritage that is well documented through the area over the past 200 years.

She is survived by two sisters, Mildred Pleasant, Hopewell, Va., and Charlotte Dudley, Brandon, Iowa; a brother, Charles Treaster, Richmond, Va. and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. May 10, at Trinity Lutheran Church by Rev. Beth Ann L. Stone. Interment will be in the McClure Union Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church Wednesday from 10 a.m. till the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the memorial fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, PA 17841. Arrangements are by the Aurand Funeral Home, 316 W. Market St., Beavertown.

Harold E. ‘Abe’ Sunderland

McVEYTOWN - Harold E. “Abe” Sunderland, 65, of U.S. Hwy. 522 South, McVeytown, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">died Thursday, May 4, 2006, at his home.

Born Jan. 13, 1941, in Wayne Township, he was a son of the late Charles F. and Beatrice (Youtzy) Sunderland.

Surviving are a daughter, JoAnn Moist and husband Gerald, of McVeytown; a son, Mark W. Sunderland and wife Jacqueline, of McVeytown; siblings Clair, of Lewistown, Merle, of McVeytown, Herman, of McVeytown, Vesta Hesser and Donna Morgan, both of Lewistown, Joyce Grove, John, Russell and Darl, all of McVeytown; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was a member of the Mount Union Men’s Bowling League; the Moose Family Center No. 143, Lewistown; the American Legion and VFW posts of Mount Union; the Atkinson Mills Sportsmen’s Club; and the Brooklyn Hose and Fire Co., Lewistown.

He was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with Pastor Dale Dobbs officiating. Interment will be in the Wayne U.M. Cemetery.

Friends may call from 6:30 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Robert S. Rarich

McCLURE - Robert S. Rarich, 69, of North Brown Street, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">passed away at 1:25 p.m. Sunday, May 7, 2006, at Millville Health Center, where he lived since Dec. 5. He was born Oct. 3, 1936, in Hazleton, a son of the late Sterling and Florence (Althoff) Rarich. He and the former Edna F. Horne were married April 19, 1958.

He was a 1954 graduate of Nuremburg High School and was a graduate of Williamsport Technical Institute.

Mr. Rarich was employed as a diesel mechanic, starting his career Womeldorf Trucking, Lewistown, and retiring in 1977 from PennDOT’s Selinsgrove service area.

He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, McClure, where he was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir of more than 40 years.

He also served as a Boy Scout leader and was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 48 years, are two sons, and daughters-in-law, Darryl S. and Jamie Rarich and Mark R. and Kathy Rarich, all of McClure; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan K. and Michael Shawver, of Lewistown; four grandchildren, Gina M. Moore and her husband, Matthew, Gregory M. Shawver and Rachel A. and Matthew S. Rarich; two great-grandsons, Gage Matthew and Evan Robert Moore; and one sister, Shirley Blasko, of Randolph, N.J.

Visitors may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at Trinity Lutheran Church, 6 W. Specht St., McClure, where the funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. by the Rev. Beth Ann Stone, his pastor.

Burial will be in McClure Union Cemetery.

Contributions in his memory may be made to Millville Health Center, PO Box 320, Millville, PA 17846.

Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.

Fred W. Bossinger Sr.

Also surviving are children Barbara K. Wise and husband William, of Longfellow, Patricia J. Groce and husband Ralph, of Glenwood, Fred W. Bossinger Jr. and wife Carolyn, of Elizabethtown, and Dennis L. Bossinger and wife Gracie, of Lewistown; siblings Ruth Kauffman, of Valley View Haven, Belleville, Evelyn Lepley and husband Robert, of Plant City, Fla., Francis Miller and husband Paul, of Lewistown, and Donald Bossinger and wife Barbara, of Longfellow; seven grandsons; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was employed at the American Viscose Corp., Lewistown, for 25 years, and later worked at the Harbison-Walker Refractories, Mount Union.

He was a member of the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, McVeytown Lodge No. 376 F&AM, Juniata Valley Forest Tall Cedars of Lebanon, American Legion Post 90, Lewistown, and Moose Family Center No. 143, Lewistown.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Harshbarger Funeral Home, 3 South Market St., McVeytown, with the Rev. Ralph Wilson officiating. Interment will be in Juniata Memorial Park.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at the Funeral Home.

The family will provide all flowers. Memorial contributions may be made to the Pine Glen Church of the Brethren, 67 Pine Glen Rd., Lewistown, PA 17044, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Beverly D. Krepps

ENHAUT - Beverly D. Krepps, 68, of 644 Highland St., Enhaut, and formerly of Milroy, went home to be with her Lord at 2:50 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2006, at Harrisburg Hospital, following an eight-year battle with cancer.

Born May 1, 1938, in Milroy, she was the daughter of the late William Grover and Mary M. (McClenahan) Harmon. On June 16, 1968, she married Samuel Ray Krepps, who survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Karen Gray, of Enhaut; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Katherine M. McCloskey, of Wichita Falls, Texas, and Doris I. Phillips, of McAlisterville.

She was preceded in Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch">death by a sister, Miriam E. Hoar, in 1984; and three brothers, Joseph W. Harmon, in 1990, Thomas Harmon, in 1993, and Roy Dean Harmon, in 2005.

She had been a monitor at Armagh Elementary School, and worked at McDonald’s in Lewistown.

She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Milroy.

The funeral service will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 6, at Bohn Funeral Home, Reedsville, by the Rev. Robert L. Zorn. The viewing begins one hour before the funeral. Interment will be in Salem Cemetery, Siglerville.

The family will provide all flowers. Contributions are requested to go to Samuel Ray Krepps, 644 Highland St., Enhaut, PA 17113.

Lucille Knavel

LEWISTOWN - A memorial service was held to honor the life of Lucille (Conner) Knavel, 88, who went to be with the Lord on Feb. 13, 2006. Born Dec. 19, 1917, in McVeytown, she was the daughter of David and Eve (Metz) Conner.

She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ellsworth; daughters, Sharon, wife of Albert Bader, Elton, and Cynthia Di’Ascro, Mifflinburg; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; sisters, Isabelle Mowery, Valley View Nursing Home, Belleville, Doris Gillam, Westerly, R.I.; and many nieces and nephews.

Lucille, a wonderful example of the Proverbs 31 woman, was greatly loved and will be sadly missed by all who knew her.
