CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Blanche E. Newman, 97, of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of 1820 Alexander Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the center.
Born May 30, 1902, in Chambersburg, she was the daughter of the late Eber Curtis and Mary Ann Walters Nye.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard A. Newman, in 1962.
She retired from Penn Hall School in Chambersburg after more than 30 years. She baby-sat for families in the Chambersburg area.
She was a Protestant.
She is survived by a sister, Mary Bolan of Blue Ridge Summit, Pa.; four grandsons, Charles Newman and Douglas Newman, both of Fayetteville, Pa., Dennis Newman of California and Terry Newman of Harrisburg, Pa.; three great-grandsons; and four great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Donald Newman and Robert Newman; two sisters; and a great-grandson.
Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery in Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home.
Howard F. Smith
TAMPA, Fla. - Howard F. Smith, 78, of 8618 Shell Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, May 5, 2000, at Town and Country Hospital in Tampa.
Born Oct. 25, 1921, in Mifflintown, Pa., he was the son of the late Clarence M. and Elizabeth Fogelman Smith.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Suloff Smith, in 1989.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy.
He was of the Methodist faith.
He was a member of Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW of Chambersburg.
He is survived by two daughters, Mary Shew and Kathy Mellott, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; a son, Kerry A. Smith of Plano, Texas; two sisters, Elizabeth Beale of Altoona, Pa. and Phyllis Wolfe of Mifflin, Pa.; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son; and six sisters and brothers.
Graveside services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg. The Rev. Kevin Witter will officiate.
There will be no public viewing.
Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
Amos W. Shaw
HUSTONTOWN, Pa. - Amos Woodrow Shaw, 84, of Pitt Street, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at his home.
Born Aug. 15, 1915, in Fulton County, Pa., he was the son of the late John B. and Flossie Knepper Shaw.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie Kelso Shaw, in 1999. They were married
July 30, 1938.
He retired from Harrison Construction Co. in Pittsburgh as a heavy equipment operator.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by a daughter, Sarah E. Shaw of Hustontown, Pa.; a son, Leonard W. Shaw of Hustontown; a brother, Harold Shaw of McConnellsburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Amos Leo Shaw; a sister, Bernice Black; and a grandson.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at M. R. Brown Funeral Home in Hustontown. The Rev. Chris Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Center Cemetery in Waterfall, Pa.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at 2 p.m. Visitation also will be Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Edmund Seiders Jr.
EVERETT, Pa. - Edmund Seiders Jr., 70, of Everett, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, May 8, 2000, at UPMC Bedford Memorial in Everett.
Born Aug. 17, 1929, in Cito, Pa., he was the son of the late Edmund and Lois G. Cutchall Seiders.
He worked at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa., for 20 years. Later, he owned and operated Seider's Appliance and Grocery Store in Knobsville. He retired from Waring Products in McConnellsburg as a supervisor after 13 years.
He was a member of Knobsville Church of the Brethren in McConnellsburg.
He is survived by his wife, Virginia A. Garland Seiders; three daughters, Denise Ramsey of Wells Tannery, Pa., Mona Bookheimer and Tina Dillman, both of Hustontown, Pa.; two sons, Douglas Seiders of McConnellsburg, Pa. and Roger Seiders of South Mountain, Pa.; two sisters, Thelma Grissinger and Betty Jane Sheffield, both of McConnellsburg; three brothers, Merrill Seiders of Fayetteville, Pa., Carl Seiders of McConnellsburg and Robert Seiders of Erin, Tenn.; nine grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; a great-grandson; and 10 step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Mildred Starliper, Ella Mae Hann and Bertha Strait.
Services will be Thursday at 10 a.m. at M. R. Brown Funeral Home in Hustontown. The Rev. Chris Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery in McConnellsburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. and Thursday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.
Paul G. Kahl
LEWES, Del. - Paul Gareth Kahl, 88, of 325 Mulberry St., and formerly of University Drive, Mont Alto, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at the home of his son.
Born Dec. 5, 1911, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Clyde E. and Maye M. Scott Kahl.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy S. Showalter Kahl, in 1996. They were married
Nov. 20, 1938.
He attended Waynesboro schools; and Waynesboro Business College.
He was employed by Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro. He and his wife owned a coal business and later added fuel oil. They sold the business in 1976 after 24 years.
He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ in Waynesboro, served on the consistory as deacon and sang in the choir.
He was a member of Acacia Lodge 586 F & AM of Waynesboro; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Harrisburg Zembo Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. of Harrisburg, Pa.; Waynesboro Shrine Club; BPO Elks Lodge 731 of Waynesboro; and National AARP.
He is survived by a daughter, Jean M. Kahl of Gaithersburg, Md.; a son, John M. Kahl of Lewes; two sisters, Lucille K. Woodrow of Naples, Fla. and Helen L. Connelly of Miami; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Fred Kahl.
Services will be Friday at noon at Miller-Bowersox Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. in Greencastle, Pa. The Rev. Douglas S. Albert will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Delaware Hospice, 600 Dupont Highway, Georgetown, DE 19947.
