CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - John Marlin Witherspoon, 86, of 515 Lincoln Way East, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, March 30, 2000, at Menno Haven Nursing Home.
Born Feb. 2, 1914, in Franklin County, Pa., he was the son of the late A. Crawford and Iva Miller Witherspoon.
He was a graduate of Chambersburg High School and Gettysburg College. He received his master of education degree from Penn State University.
He was an English teacher at Chambersburg High School, retiring in 1975 with more than 30 years of service.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army in the European Theater. He retired as a lieutenant colonel.
He was a member of Presbyterian Church of Falling Spring, Pa., where he was formerly an elder.
He is survived by his wife, Harriet Glass Witherspoon; two daughters, Barbara Korenjak of Oregon and Margaret O'Sullivan of Las Vegas; a son, John C. Witherspoon of Las Vegas; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.
Private graveside services will be held at the convenience of the family.
The family requests the omission of flowers.
Arrangements are by Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
J. Kenneth Willingham
EVERETT, Pa. - J. Kenneth Willingham, 76, of Pointer Road and formerly of Ranson, W.Va., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Bon Seccors Hospital in Altoona, Pa.
Born Oct. 18, 1923 in Summit Point, W.Va., he was the son of the late Lawrence Durard and Fannie Whittington Willingham.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, June Robinson Willingham in 1982.
He was retired from the U.S. Government at Weather Mountain in Bluemont, Va., having served as a Federal Firefighter for 20 years at the rank of captain. He was currently employed by Bob Evans Restaurant in Breezewood, Pa.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.
He was a Methodist.
He was a member of American Legion Post 113 of Bedford, Pa., and Bedford Elks Club Men's Bowling League.
He was a member of Citizens Volunteer Fire Company, where he was a member for 42 years and served as chief for 25 years.
He volunteered as emergency services director for Jefferson County, W.Va., for 17 years before becoming a paid director until his retirement.
He was instrumental in establishing the 911 Emergency Communications Radio System in Jefferson County.
He is survived by his second wife, Naomi J. Exline Willingham of Everett, Pa.; a daughter, Linda L. Osbourn of Ranson; a stepdaughter, Rhonda K. Wills Knable of Warfordsburg, Pa.; two stepsons, Ronnie Wills of Hedgesville, W.Va., and Willy Wills of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two brothers, Lawrence L. Willingham of Middleway, W.Va., and David A. Willingham of Williamsport; two granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; a niece; and three nephews.
Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St. in Hancock. The Rev. Tim Close will officiate. Burial with military honors will be in Edgehill Cemetery in Charles Town, W.Va.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, which will open at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Citizens Fire Company, P.O. Box 927, Charles Town, WV 25414.
Donald H. Mellott Sr.
NEEDMORE, Pa. - Donald H. Mellott Sr., 67, of Diehl Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, March 31, 2000, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg, Pa.
Born Sept. 9, 1932, in Needmore, he was the son of the late John Henry and Rosetta Taylor Mellott.
He retired from H.B. Mellott Estate Inc. in Warfordsburg, Pa., as a cement truck driver after 38 years of service.
He served in the U.S. Navy from 1952 to 1957.
He was a Protestant.
He is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Vanorsdale Mellott of Needmore, whom he married
Dec. 28, 1957; two daughters, Wendy L. Hill of Warfordsburg and Tina L. Wilson of Needmore; two sons, Donald H. Mellott Jr. of Needmore and Max W. Mellott of Hedgesville, W.Va.; a sister, Geneva Mellott of Warfordsburg; a brother, Blair C. Mellott of Warfordsburg; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three sisters and three brothers.
Services will be Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, 3005 Pleasant Grove Road in Warfordsburg. The Rev. Denver A. Plessinger will officiate. Burial will be in the church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the church, which will open at 4 p.m.
Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Hancock.
George H. Anderson Jr.
FORT LOUDON, Pa. - Retired Air Force Maj. George H. Anderson Jr., 82, of 15650 Mountain Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, April 1, 2000, at Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, Pa.
Born June 4, 1917, in Dexter, N.Y., he was the son of the late George H. Sr. and Alice I. Scott Anderson.
His wife, Elizabeth S. "Betty" Allen Anderson, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died March 1, 1993.
He was a 1935 graduate of Cooley High School, Detroit.
He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1944. He was qualified as a radar observer, aerial gunner and served as a B-29 bombardier. He later specialized in early warning radar and was stationed at various bases in the United States and overseas. He was a staff officer at Dryhill Air Force Station in Watertown, N.Y., and Opheim Air Force Station in Opheim, Mont. He was a veteran of World War II, Korea and Vietnam. He retired in 1966.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 of Mercersburg, Pa., and Wesley Yeager American Legion Post 606 of Fort Loudon, Pa. He was a member of Great Cove Golf Club of McConnellsburg, Pa.
He is survived by two daughters, Catherine Lutz of Moline, Ill., and Nanci Gilligan of Syracuse, N.Y.; three sons, George M. Anderson of Brownville, N.Y., Timothy A. Anderson of Phoenix and Thomas H. Anderson of Eastaboga, Ala.; three sisters, Mary Jane Robinson of Plymouth, Mich., Sue Erickson of Smithfield, Va., and Victoria Smith of Redford, Mich.; a brother, Russell F. Anderson of Orange, Va.; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home Inc., 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Paul L. Yeun will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, with full military honors by the Air Force Honor Guard of Bolling Air Force Base of Washington, D.C.
There will be no viewing. However, the family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

She is survived by her close companion, Frank Flasher, with whom she resided; two daughters, Barbara House of Greencastle, Pa., and Joane Atherton of Mercersburg, Pa.; two sons, Ronald E. House of McConnellsburg, Pa., and Charles House of Greencastle; two sisters, Eva Stoner of Greencastle and Myrtle Seville of Chambersburg. Pa.; a brother, Joseph Souders of Dallas, Pa.; 10 grandchildren ; three step step-granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter; a great-granddaughter; a sister and five brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at M.R. Brown Funeral Home, Hustontown, Pa. The Rev. Belvy White will officiate. Burial will be in Hustontown Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 9 p.m. and Wednesday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
