CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Robert W. Rhoads, 80, of 3582 Turnberry Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, April 7, 2000, at Manorcare Health Services.
Born Nov. 6, 1919, in Friedens, Pa., he was the son of the late William F. and Emma R. Bates Rhoads.
He was a 1941 graduate of Gettysburg College and attended Gettysburg Lutheran Seminary from 1941 to 1943. He received his M.A. from Oklahoma State University in 1946 and his Ph.D. from University of Pennsylvania in 1949.
He was professor of history at Drexel University, Philadelphia, from 1949 to 1966, serving as chairman of the Social Sciences Department from 1956 to 1966. From 1966 until his retirement in 1987, he served as dean of academic affairs and professor of history at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II and received the Purple Heart.
He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, and while living in the Philadelphia area was liturgist for Reformation Lutheran Church in Media, Pa.
He was a member of BPOE 600, Charles Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, AARP, Retired Officers Association, Oklahoma State Alumni Association, University of Pennsylvania Alumni, Alumni Association of Gettysburg College, and Masonic Lodge in Latrobe, Pa.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Waldrop, whom he married
May 29, 1946.
He was preceded in death by a daughter and a son.
A memorial service will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Neal Chapel of Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Neal O. Hively will officiate. Burial will be in Ligioner Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
There will be no viewing.
Memorial contributions may be made to Endowment Fund, Trinity Lutheran Church, 26 West Commerce Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Mary M. Clapsaddle
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Mary M. Koogle Clapsaddle, 82, of 114 W. Second St., and formerly of Tritle Avenue, Waynesboro, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at her home.
Born June 1, 1917, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late George Henry and Nora Cashman Koogle.
She attended Hagerstown schools.
Her husband, C. Roy Clapsaddle, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in 1976. They were married
June 5, 1936.
She was employed by Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing in Hagerstown. Prior to retiring in 1980, she worked on the assembly line at Corning Glass in Greencastle for 20 years.
She was a member of St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church in Waynesboro, and the Sodality.
She is survived by one daughter, Linda K. Yost of Waynesboro; one son, Robert R. Clapsaddle of Waynesboro; two sisters, Jean E. Eckard of Hagerstown and Julia K. Henson of Waynesboro, with whom she resided; one granddaughter; one great-granddaughter; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, George Koogle and John Koogle.
Graveside services will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Cemetery in Waynesboro. The Rev. Thomas J. Hemler will officiate.
There will be no viewing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Andrew Catholic Church, 12 N. Broad St., Waynesboro, PA 17268; or to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2800 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
David E. Carroll
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - David Ellsworth Carroll, 72, of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 363 E. Born Nov. 6, 1927, in Frederick, Md., he was the son of the late John Edward and Addie Mary Lee Carroll.
He was retired. He had been employed as a janitor at St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in World War II.
He was a member of Mount Moriah Baptist Church, Chambersburg. He served as a deacon and sang in the choir.
He was a member of National American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Tarman Carroll, whom he married
Sept. 29, 1984; two sisters, Imogene Brown and Corinthia Brown, both of Frederick, Md.; and two brothers, Daniel Thomas Carroll of Baltimore and Norman L. Carroll of Frederick.
He was preceded in death by seven sisters and three brothers.
Services will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mount Moriah Baptist Church, 230 Mount Moriah St., Chambersburg. The Rev. G. Nathan Bell will officiate. Burial will be in Hope Hill Cemetery, Frederick.
Visitation will be Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the church.

Geraldine I. Cook
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Geraldine I. Born March 31, 1929, in Wells Tannery, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Albert and Ruby Warsing Wright.

She is survived by four daughters, Beverly A. Schwartz, Patricia E. Thomas, and Veronica A. Fickes, all of Fayetteville, Pa., and Pamela K. Newcomer of Chambersburg; three sisters, Maxine Means, and Erma England, both of Everett, Pa., and Vivian Wright of Wells Tannery; three brothers, Gerald Wright, Lester Wright and Bobby Wright, all of Wells Tannery; 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Michael E. Cook, in 1998; an infant son; and two brothers.
Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Aletha L. Painter and Emmert Banzhoff will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Frances M. Pittman
MCCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Frances M. She worked as a seamstress for Sagner Clothing Manufacturing; and worked as a housekeeper.
Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. Second St., McConnellsburg. The Rev. Christian Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
