Born March 2, 1931, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late John A. and Emma C. Smith Duke.
His wife, Dolores M. Jamison Duke, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in September 1999.
He retired from Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg after 30 years. He then worked part-time at County Market and Chambersburg Trust Co., both in Chambersburg.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War. He served in the U.S. Army Reserve for 30 years.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Chambersburg.
He was a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Burt J. Asper Post 46 American Legion and Franklin Fire Co., all in Chambersburg.
He is survived by one son, William C. Duke of Chambersburg; one brother, Charles Duke of Waynesboro, Pa.; and one grandson, Craig W. Duke of Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Priscilla Newcomer; and two brothers, John Duke and Jim Duke.
Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Neal O. Hively will officiate.
Burial with military services by Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Russell M. Keefer
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Russell M. Keefer, 81, of 3517 Sycamore Grove Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, at Shippensburg (Pa.) Health Care Center.
Born Feb. 13, 1919, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late Amos and Carrie Plum Keefer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Katherine Flory, in 1988.
He worked for Mount Cydonia Sand Co. in Fayetteville, Pa. as a laborer, retiring in the late 1950's. He had been a farmer.
He was a member of Community Pentacostal Mission Church in Chambersburg.
He is survived by his second wife, Louise C. Spangler Keefer, whom he married
April 13, 1990; a daughter, Dorothy Burgenstock of Fayetteville; a son, Russell Keefer Jr. of Chambersburg; two stepdaughters, Betty Helman of Chambersburg and Nancy Martin of Biglerville, Pa.; a stepson, Roy Crist of Chambersburg; three sisters, Viola Brechbill, Lula Keefer and Janet Johnson, all of Chambersburg; a brother, Melvin Keefer of St. Thomas, Pa.; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; 10 stepgrandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two daughters, Bertha and Mary; and a sister, Cora Gayman.
Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Community Pentacostal Mission Church, 4580 Jack Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Clarence W. Dehart Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home in Chambersburg, and Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Helen W. Krist
CARLISLE, Pa. - Helen W. Krist, 87, of Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and formerly of Burnham, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at the nursing center.
Born April 6, 1913, in Mount Union, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary Akit Mihalick.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar E. Krist, in 1968.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Burnham.
She is survived by four children, Martha Lewis of Mechanicsburg, Pa., Joan Schreiber of Carlisle, Pa., Russell E. Krist of Keedysville and Cynthia K. Krist of Delta, Pa.; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Rudy J. Mihalick; and a grandson.
Services will be Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Heller-Hoenstine Burnham Funeral Home, 108 First Ave., in Burnham. Burial will be in Mount Rock Cemetery in Lewistown, Pa.
The family will receive friends Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 215 E. Freedom Ave., Burnham, PA 17009.
Christopher W. Schaffer
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Christopher William Schaffer was stillborn Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at Waynesboro Hospital.
He is survived by his parents, Michael E. Sr. and Jennifer Renee Peffer Schaffer of Waynesboro; three sisters, Rachel Zeger and Jessica Schaffer, both of Waynesboro, and Tasha Schaffer of Mercersburg, Pa.; one brother, Michael E. Schaffer Jr. of Mercersburg; paternal grandparents Richard W. and Jane E. Pine of Mercersburg; and paternal great-grandparents, Wayne and Thelma Pine of Mercersburg.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Melvin E. Schaffer; and his maternal grandparents, Betty Jane and Claude R. Peffer.
Graveside services will be Monday at 10 a.m. in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg. The Rev. Milton W. Benny Jr. will officiate.
Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home in Mercersburg.
Kenneth E. Austin Sr.
MONT ALTO, Pa. - Kenneth E. Austin Sr., 69, of 112 S. Born Aug. 28, 1930, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late Ervin H. Sr. and Elizabeth E. Brenneman Austin.
A sheet metal mechanic, he worked at Ingalls Shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss. and for Steel-Draulics Co. in Rouzerville, Pa. He retired in 1993.
He served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by two daughters, Cathy Swope of Waynesboro, Pa. and Joyce E. Buhrman of Mont Alto; a son, Kenneth E. Austin Jr. of Rouzerville; a stepson, Gerald Smith of Quincy, Pa.; a sister, Virginia E. Wilders of Las Vegas; a brother, Ervin H. Austin Jr. of Mont Alto; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; four nieces and four nephews; and his companion of 5 years, Mildred Smith of Mont Alto.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Thomas E. Miller

Born April 12, 1917, in Big Cove Tannery, Pa., he was the son of the late Bruce and Maude Gordon Miller.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Lynch Miller, in 1994.
He retired as a foreman of construction for the state of Pennsylvania; and worked at Letterkenny Army Depot and for Plummer Construction.
He served in the U.S. Army.
He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore.
He was a member of McConnellsburg VFW; Needmore Volunteer Fire Co., where he was fireman of the year in 1988; McConnellsburg Volunteer Fire Co.; and constable of Fulton County, Pa. in 1963.
He is survived by a son, Edgar A. Miller of Needmore; a brother, Bernie Miller of Mercersburg, Pa.; a grandchild; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Truax; and his twin brother, William Miller.
Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren in Needmore. The Revs. Denver Plessinger and Roger Truax will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant Ridge Church of the Brethren Cemetery, with military services by Fulton County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 322 N. 2nd St. in McConnellsburg. The funeral home will open at 2 p.m. Visitation also will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the church.
