GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Benjamin F. Thomas Sr., 78, of 11252 Burkett Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Feb. 17, 2000, at Piney Mountain Nursing Home in Fayetteville, Pa.
Born Feb. 10, 1922, in Breezewood, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles A. and Fanny M. Mench Thomas.
He was a 1939 graduate of Everett (Pa.) High School.
In 1956, he founded Greencastle Coach Co. in State Line, Pa. In 1967, he founded Greencastle Broadcasting Co., which includes WKSL-FM radio, Greencastle, and other broadcast stations in Waynesboro, Pa. He founded WJAL 68, Hagerstown. He held several U.S. patents on structural design.
He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the African and European theaters.
He was a member of Upton Full Gospel Church in Greencastle.
He was a member of Mercersburg VFW Post 655; Mercersburg American Legion Post 830; and Hancock American Legion.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma M. Lust Thomas, whom he married
Feb. 10, 1995; two daughters, Erin J.L. Thomas of Hagerstown and Mary V.L. Boyer of Bethel, Pa.; four sons, Barry F. Thomas of Charleston, S.C., Lynn S. Thomas and Benjamin F. Thomas Jr., both of Greencastle and Robert L. Thomas of Chambersburg; a stepdaughter, Melanie L. Rose of Oley, Pa.; three stepsons, Wade C. Rose of Chittenango, N.Y., Douglas R. Rose and Daniel H. Rose, all of Reading, Pa.; four sisters, Marian Pettengill of Orlando, Fla., Helen Crawford of New Enterprise, Pa., Mabel Smith of Salem, Ohio and Ruth Wayant of Bedford, Pa.; three brothers, Fred Thomas of Everett, David R. Thomas of Bradenton, Fla. and Robert Thomas of Youngstown, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Kathleen Fala; and a half-brother, Charles Thomas.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St. in Greencastle. The Rev. Joseph P. Robey will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg, Pa., with military services by Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
Ida P. Newell
TELFORD, Pa. - Ida Pearl Newell, 92, of Telford, and formerly of Fayetteville and Phillipsburg, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, at her home.
Born in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jacob Sherman and Mary Esther Shockey Carr.
Her husband of 61 years, Robert E. Newell, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in 1986.
She was a member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Fayetteville, and the Lutheran Church Women's group.
She was a member of the Toy Mission Program in Chambersburg, Pa.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia A. Smith of Telford, with whom she resided; and four grandchildren, Philip Smith of Lancaster, Pa., Mary E. Baker of Charlotte, N.C., Stephen Smith of Souderton, Pa., and David H. Smith of Gulf Shores, Ala.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Anna Bell Carr Noll; and two brothers, William Lloyd and Miles Henry Carr.
Services will be Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Main Street, Fayetteville. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the church 30 minutes prior to the service.
It is requested that flowers be omitted. Memorial donations may be made to Grand View Hospice, 700 Lawn Ave., Sellersville, PA 18960; or to St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Fayetteville, PA 17222; or to a charity of one's choice.

William H. Richard
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - William H. "Bill" Richard, 69, of 12007 Buchanan Trail West, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2000, at Carlisle (Pa.) Hospital.
Born March 31, 1930, in Chambersburg, he was the son of the late David and Dorothy Oller Richards.
He was a former employee of Letterkenny Army Depot, Chambersburg; worked as a mason; and owned and operated Bill's Place service station in Cove Gap, Pa. from 1967 until his retirement in 1986.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
He attended Greencastle Church of God, Greencastle, Pa.
He was a member of Chambersburg Beagle Club and Mason-Dixon Beagle Club of St. Thomas, Pa.; and Mercersburg Sportmen's Association. He raised whitetail deer and turkeys.
He is survived by his wife, Frances Gordon Richard, whom he married
Aug. 19, 1950; a daughter, Ginger A. Silvers of Corapeake, N.C.; a son, Terry W. Richard of Shippensburg, Pa.; three grandsons; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Earl Richards.
Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Greencastle Church of God. The Rev. Floyd E. Myers will officiate.
Private burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Fairview Cemetery in Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at the church.
Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Mercersburg.
Betty A. Bowers

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Richard L. Shockey, in 1978; and by her second husband, Charles R. "Hotty" Bowers, in 1998.
She was a 1947 graduate of Chambersburg High School.
She was a hostess at Hoss's Steakhouse, Chambersburg, retiring in 1997.
She was a member of Living Hope Community Church, State Line, Pa.
She was a volunteer for Easter Seals of Franklin County, Pa.
She is survived by four daughters, Merianne Appleby and Cathy Shatzer, both of Chambersburg, Amy Eckels of Waynesboro, Pa. and M. Ellen Korby of Fayetteville, Pa.; a son, Richard Shockey of Silver Spring, Md.; a stepdaughter, Judy O'meara of Phoenix; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a cousin.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward L. and Annie Fuller, who raised her.
A memorial service will be Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at Living Hope Community Church in State Line. The Rev. Michael Wentz will officiate.
A private burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery in Chambersburg.
Memorial donations may be made to Cumberland Valley Humane Society, 2325 Country Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
