Born Feb. 26, 1910, in Tuscarora, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Ulysses Grant and Minnie Wise Smith.

Her husband, John W. McClure, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died May 19, 1974.

She was a 1928 graduate of Port Royal High School; and attended Thompson Institute in York, Pa.

She was retired from Greif Co. in Union, Pa.

She was a member of Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church in Waterloo, Pa.

She is survived by two daughters, Helen Taylor and Delores Hockenberry, both of Shippensburg, Pa.; four sons, Paul McClure and Terry McClure, both of East Waterford, David McClure of Chambersburg and Carl McClure of Spring Run, Pa.; one sister, Helen Kurtz of Thompsontown, Pa.; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.

Services will be Friday at 10 a.m. at John L. Agett Funeral Home, 18875 Main St., Dry Run, Pa. The Rev. Clyde Brown will officiate. Burial will be in United Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Concord, Pa.

Visitation will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday at 9 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Upper Tuscarora Presbyterian Church, c/o Louise Yohn, RD 1, East Waterford, PA 17021.

Edith I. Sloan

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Edith Irene Sloan, 87, of 328 Tyrone St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital, Waynesboro, Pa.

Born April 22, 1912, in Harrisonville, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Maye R. Sipes Schooley.

Her husband, Milburn A. Sloan, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in 1970.

She was a homemaker.

She attended Siloam United Methodist Church in Harrisonville.

She is survived by two daughters, Mildred Sloan of Los Angeles and Rose Sloan of Youngstown, Ohio; three sons, Robert Sloan of Warren, Ohio, Howard Sloan of Mesopotamia, Ohio, and Roger Sloan of Waynesboro; two sisters, Mary Bennet of Chardon, Ohio, and Velma Kime of Annapolis; five brothers, Wesley Schooley of Chambersburg, Pa., Wilmer Schooley of New Brighten, Pa., Russell Schooley of Riveria Beach, Fla., Dale Schooley of Mercersburg, Pa., and Theodore Schooley of Greencastle; 20 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two sons, two sisters, four brothers, one grandson and one great-granddaughter.

Services will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Siloam United Methodist Church in Harrisonville. The Rev. Charles Gummo will officiate. Burial will be in Siloam Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, 6492 Lincoln Way West in St. Thomas, Pa.; and Saturday one hour prior to service at the church. The funeral home will be open Friday from 2 p.m.

Ruth A. Callahan

LANDENBERG, Pa. - Ruth Ann Callahan, 40, of Landenberg, and formerly of Martinsburg, W.Va., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Dec. 12, 1999, in Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia.

Born May 6, 1959, in Martinsburg, she was the daughter of Ruth Naomi Hull Kilmer of Martinsburg and the late Richard Beall Kilmer.

She received her B.S. in marketing from West Virginia University.

She was a member of New London Presbyterian Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Michael D. Callahan; three sons, Edward Callahan, George William Callahan, and Earl Bennett Callahan; and one sister, Barbara Kilmer Fortney of Stephenson, Va.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Emma Katherine Callahan.

A Memorial celebration will be held today at 11 a.m. at New London Presbyterian Church, New London, Pa.

Graveside services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Rosedale Cemetery. The Rev. William E. Merki will officiate.

The family will receive friends at Otterbein United Methodist Church following the graveside service.

The family suggests memorial donations be made to Temple Cardiology Associates, with a note saying "Transplant Research in memory of Ruth Ann Callahan." Contributions may be sent to Temple University Hospital, Attention: Dr. Howard Eisen, 9th Floor Parkison Pavilion, Broad and Ontario streets, Philadelphia, PA 19140.

Arrangements are by Brown Funeral Home, Martinsburg.

Dorothy V. Hess

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Dorothy V. Fish Hess, 89, of 25 N. Potomac St., and Michaux Manor Living Center, South Mountain, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Dec. 11, 1999, at Waynesboro Hospital.

Born April 6, 1910, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Lemuel and Florence Gertrude Ward Fish.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Hess, whom she married Aug. 14, 1937.

She attended Washington County schools.

A seamstress, she worked for E.J. Fennel Garment Factory in Hagerstown, for 30 years, retiring in 1978.

She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Hagerstown.

She was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Ladies Auxiliary, Hagerstown; Red Men's Club Ladies Auxiliary, Williamsport; Amalgamated Garment Workers of American Union, Hagerstown Chapter; Democratic Bowling League and E.J. Fennel Bolwing League, both of Hagerstown.

She is survived by one daughter, Barbara A. Izer of Waynesboro; one son, Robert E. Hess Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; one brother, Marion E. Fish of Halfway; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

There will be no public viewing.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Ronald E. Lowans Sr.

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Ronald E. Lowans Sr., 47, of 104 E. Born June 2, 1952, Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son Marcus N. and Mary C. Kelbaugh Lowans of Waynesboro.

He attended Greencastle Elementary School and James Buchanan High School.

He had been employed at Nitterhouse Concrete Products in Chambersburg and Landis Tool Co. in Waynesboro. He was a supervisor at L & S Stone Inc. of Greencastle.

He was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; and a social member of Greencastle American Legion Post 373. He played for area softball teams.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by one daughter, Heather R. Lowans of Waynesboro; two sons, Brian N. Horton of Tennessee and Ronald E. Lowans Jr. of Waynesboro; three sisters, Vicki M. Stull, Betty M. Laman and Lori A. Kline, all of Waynesboro; five brothers, Gerald M. Lowans, Millard E. Lowans, Darrell L. Lowans and Rodney L. Lowans, all of Waynesboro, and Todd E. Lowans of Hagerstown; grandmother, Annie K. Lowans of Greencastle; fiance, Bonnie L. Armagost of Waynesboro; three grandsons; aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Revs. Eugene R. Strite and Glen E. Hartman will officiate. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Elda G. Helman

She attended Browns Mill One-Room School in Kauffman Station.

She had worked at Greencastle Shoe Factory; then for Landis Machine Co. in Waynesboro, for 22 years.

She was a member of the former Grace Reformed Church of Greencastle, Pa.

She is survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother, David Helman; an infant sister, Alma Pearl Helman; four sisters, Carrie Oliver, Ethel May Helman, Hazel Pisle and Neta Cordell; and six brothers, Clyde E. Helman, George M. Helman, Floyd Helman, Glenn Helman, Norman Helman, and Garnet E. Helman.

Services will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Dean Gearhart will officiate. Burial will be in Grindstone Hill Cemetery near Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
