Ernest L. VanSickle

GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Ernest Lee VanSickle, 72, of 2410 Rogers Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at his home.

Born May 10, 1927, in West Newton, Pa., he was the son of Mildred Lowery VanSickle Price of Ruffsdale, Pa., and the late Earl VanSickle.

He attended North Huntington High School, Ruffsdale.

He had been employed at Westinghouse Electric in East Pittsburgh and Jeannette Glass, Jeannette, Pa. He then was employed at Mack Trucks Inc. in Hagerstown, as a machinist and then as a fork lift operator, retiring in 1990.

He served in the U.S. Army, with Company C, the 770th Military Police Battalion, during World War II.

He was a member of Saint Mark's Roman Catholic Church, Greencastle.

He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42, Hagerstown, Harry D. Ziegler VFW Post 6319, Greencastle, Mack Trucks Golden Bull Dogs Club, Hagerstown, and National AARP.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Ethelmae S. Dorko VanSickle, whom he married in 1950; one daughter, Suzanna E. Mayhugh of Greencastle; one son, Randolph S. VanSickle of Greencastle; one sister, Betty DePerna of Ruffsdale; four granddaughters; one grandson; one great-grandson; one great-granddaughter and nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Thomas Price; one daughter, Cathleen VanSickle; and one son, Roger VanSickle.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 11 a.m. at Saint Mark's Roman Catholic Church, Greencastle. The Rev. Joseph L. Stahura will be celebrant. Burial will be in Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Miller-Grove Funeral Home, 521 S. Washington St., Greencastle, with a Christian Wake Service at 8 p.m.

Pearl C. McCoy

MOUNT HOLLY SPRINGS, Pa. - Pearl C. McCoy, 87, of Sarah Todd Memorial Home, 1000 W. South St., and formerly of Mount Holly Springs, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Nov. 8, 1999, at the home.

Born Dec. 15, 1911, in Pottstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Harry Hollenbach and Clyda Ottinger Hollenback Gilbert.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John P. McCoy, in 1981.

She was a member of Barnitz United Methodist Church and Women of Barnitz.

She had volunteered for the American Red Cross.

She is survived by two daughters, Shryle M. Diehl of Carlisle, Pa. and Jacquelyn R. Bowers of Smithsburg; one sister, Anna M. Sholter of Mount Holly Springs; two granddaughters; two grandsons; two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Barnitz United Methodist Church. The Rev. John H. Kratz will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Holly Springs Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Barnitz United Methodist Church, 23 Church Lane, Carlisle, PA 17013; or to Krieger Eye Institute, c/o Sinai Hospital of Baltimore, 2411 W. Belvedere Ave., Baltimore, MD 21215-3271.

Arrangements are by Gibson-Hollinger Funeral Home, Mount Holly Springs.

Melva M. Gates

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Melva M. Kime Gates, 79, of 849 Tomstown Road, and Quincy United Methodist Home, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at the home.

Born Nov. 19, 1919, in Quincy, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Raymond W. and Mary Viola Shultz Kime.

She attended Quincy and Washington Township schools.

She was employed by Carroll Shoes, Mount Atlo, Pa., as a machine operator.

She was a member of Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Waynesboro.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leonard W. Gates; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one sister, Gladys Shaffer; and two brothers, Merle Kime and Harold Kime.

Services will be Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Brother Brian Berry will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery near Quincy.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Joseph E. Culler

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Joseph Enniss Culler, 85, of 5539 Duffield Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at his home.

Born March 28, 1914, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Abram H. and Alma Paxton Culler.

He was a 1935 graduate of Waynesboro High School.

He was employed as an orchardist, a school bus driver and an auto mechanic. He owned and operated Culler's Sunoco Service Station, Chambersburg; was a custodian at Duffield Elementary School; a machinist at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro; and at Chambersburg Engineering Co., from which he retired in 1980.

He was a member of Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church and a Sunday school teacher.

He was a member of AARP and Golden Opportunity Club, both of Chambersburg; AARP Bowling League; played for his church softball team and the Engineering Co. team; and managed the Duffield Darts Softball Team.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys E. Baker Culler, whom he married in 1936; one daughter, Sharon K. Mowery of Chambersburg; one son, the Rev. Garry L. Culler of Fayetteville, Pa.; one sister, Lois Dengler of Chambersburg; six grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and two sisters.

Services will be Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church, Chambersburg. The Rev. Daryl M. Elliott will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg; and Wednesday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Mount Pleasant United Brethren Church, 2509 Black Gap Road, Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Hulda M. Martin

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Hulda M. Jacobs Martin, 102, of 227 W. Main St., and a guest of Manorcare Health Services, Chambersburg, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born June 25, 1897, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Alive Araminta Wolfkill Jacobs.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles W. Martin, whom she married in 1934.

She attended the Washington Township schools.

She was employed in her early life by 5&10 Department Store, Waynesboro and then by United Telephone Company, Waynesboro, as a telephone operator, retiring in 1952.

Recently Sprint Telephone Company interviewed her as their oldest living telephone operator to be published in their 100th anniversary booklet.

Following her retirement, she and her husband owned and operated a floral business in their home for a number of years.

She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Waynesboro and adult Sunday school class of the church.

She was a member of William Max McLaughlin VFW Post 695 Ladies Auxiliary; Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15 Ladies Auxiliary; former North Chapter A.A.R.P. 739 and Waynesboro YMCA Auxiliary, all of Waynesboro and National A.A.R.P.

She is survived by one niece, Martha Mathias of Waynesboro and a number of great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by an infant sister and two brothers, Byron W. Jacobs and Robert F. Jacobs.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Price's Church Cemetery, near Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday one half hour prior to the services at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hoover House, 227 West Main Street, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
