GREENCASTLE, Pa. - Jacob H. Hoover, 87, of 3119 Williamson Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Nov. 7, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 20, 1912, in Wyanet, Ill., he was the son of the late Jacob H. and Bessie Pittman Hoover.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Helen M. Ritchey Hoover, in 1986.
He was employed at the former Fairchild Aircraft plant in Hagerstown and he also did repairs on small engines and lawnmowers and electrical work.
He was of the Church of God faith.
He was a member of McConnellsburg VFW.
He is survived by three daughters, Gladys A. Shifflett and Phyllis J. Hoover, both of Greencastle and Mary Ellen Myers of Waynesboro, Pa.; one son, Robert L. Hoover of Chambersburg; one stepdaughter, Louise Johnson of Six Mile Run, Pa.; one sister, Mabel Russell of Michigan; one half-brother, Merle Christner of Florida; 17 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, William H. Hoover; one daughter, Arlene Elizabeth Mowen and one brother, Charles Hoover.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. The Rev. Alan N. Clingan will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Frances J. Stoll
MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Frances J. Stoll, 91, formerly of 42 N. Main St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at The Shook Home, Chambersburg.
Born Sept. 22, 1908, near Mercersburg, she was the daughter of the late James McDowell and Hetty Bradley Johnston.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George D. Stoll, whom she married

She was a 1926 graduate of former Mercersburg High School and then she enrolled in a two-year course at the former Shippensburg Normal School. She later returned to college and received a degree in art education from Kutztown University in 1933.
She taught elementary school in the Mercersburg area. She retired from Mechanicsburg School District in 1975.
She was a member of The Presbyterian Church of Mercersburg, where she served as an elder.
She is survived by one sister, Elizabeth J. Cooper of Fayetteville, Pa.; one brother, Donald R. Johnston of Mercersburg; two nieces and three nephews.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Mary M. Stoll and two brothers, Houston Johnston and Tom Johnston.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at The Presbyterian Church of Mercersburg. The Rev. Michael K. Miller will officiate. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
The family will receive friends Wednesday one hour prior to the services at the church.
Arrangements are by Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, Inc., 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg.
Elmer C. Hull Sr.
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Elmer C. Hull, Sr., 77, of 237 W. Second St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at University of Maryland Hospital, Baltimore.
Born May 4, 1922, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late Grover C. and Ella Rosetta Shives Hull.
He attended Waynesboro Schools.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the South Pacific Theater.
In his early years he worked at Wayne Bakery in Waynesboro and then at Rakestraw Dairy in Mechanicsburg, Pa. After the military, he worked at Hershey Creamy in Chambersburg, Pa., then with his father on Hull's Dairy in Waynesboro to 1962. Then he owned and operated Hull's Trucking Company in Waynesboro and at the same time owned several delicatessens in Harrisburg, Pa. Following the trucking business, he worked for Eastern Products in Hagerstown in sales and then General Freight Inc., in Hancock also in sales. He presently owned and operated C.V. Warehousing in the mid-70's and then recently purchased Locks Unlimited to add to his business.
He was a member of Calvary Assembly of God Church, Waynesboro and Senior Adult Sunday School class.
He was a member of National A.A.R.P.
He is survived by his wife, E. Marie Kolb Hull, whom he married
in 1939; one daughter, Linda K. Freeman of Waynesboro; one son, Elmer C. Hull Jr., of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; one brother, Perry W. Hull of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Hillard Hull.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Calvary Assembly of God Church, 116 Snider Ave., Waynesboro. The Rev. Dwan N. Newsome and the Rev. Walter A. Stuart will officiate. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery, Clear Spring.
Military graveside services will be conducted by the Honor Guard of the Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Assembly of God Church, 116 Snider Avenue, Waynesboro, PA 17268.
Meeris R. Moats
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Meeris R. Moats, 80, of 703 Ringgold St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at his home.
Born Nov. 29, 1918, he was the son of the late George and Nellie Rock Moats.
During World War II, he was in the U.S. Army from April 1941 to October 1945, serving in Europe and Africa.
He was employed at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg, Pa., as a laborer, retiring in 1977.
He was a member of Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro, where he attended Men's Bible Class and was a member of the choir.
He is survived by his wife, Betty J. Barnhart Moats, whom he married
Feb. 2, 1952; three daughters, Nora J. Hykes and Barbara A. Buford-Moats, both of Waynesboro, and Diane L. Tieman of East Meadow, N.Y.; a son, Gary L. Moats of Waynesboro; two brothers, Harold Moats of York, Pa., and Robert Moats of Waynesboro; five grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and cousins.
He was preceded in death by an infant son, Meeris R. Moats Jr.; four sisters; and a brother.
Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, 801 Park St. in Waynesboro. Pastor Michael V. Newman and Pastor K. Allan Mummert will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro with graveside military services conducted by members of Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 of Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St. in Waynesboro.
Lois V. Hess
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Lois V. Benshoff Hess, 76, of 8260 Shank-Hess Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Nov. 5, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 4, 1923, in Mont Alto, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Bernice M. Mickley Benshoff.
She was a 1941 graduate of Quincy High School in Quincy, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arthur Hess, in 1998. They were married
Jan. 19, 1945.
She was a homemaker.
She was a member of Antietam Congregation Old German Baptist Church at Price's in Washington Township, Pa.
She is survived by five children, Kathleen M. Metzger, William B. Hess, Dorothy J. Layman and Kenneth B. Hess, all of Waynesboro, and Elizabeth A. Lesher of Chambersburg, Pa.; two sisters, Luella M. Helman and Pauline L. Anthony, both of Mont Alto; three brothers, Lloyd W. Benshoff of Chambersburg, and Arden L. Benshoff and Clayton R. Benshoff, both of Mont Alto, Pa.; 20 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Elsie G. King and Marie I. McCleary.
Services will be Tuesday at 9 a.m. at her home, at 8260 Shank-Hess Road, and at 10 a.m. at Antietam Congregation Old German Baptist Church. Ministers Willis Hess, Donald Hess, Ray Garber, George Mason, Jerre Longenecker and Alfred Brubaker will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Monday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. at her home, 8260 Shank-Hess Road.
Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro.
