Born June 1, 1911, in Mercersburg, he was the son of the late James I. Sharar Sr. and Holmsie Viola Seylar Sharar.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hattie Myers Sharar, in 1994.
He was a former employee of Lowengart Co. of Mercersburg. He was last employed at Grove Worldwide of Shade Grove, Pa., retiring in 1976.
He was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mercersburg.
He was a social member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241, Mercersburg; and a member Moose Lodge 842, Chambersburg.
He is survived by one son, Joseph I. Sharar of Chambersburg; three granddaughters, Sherry Pittman of Staunton, Va., Linda Sharar of Chambersburg and Jodie Laughlin of Marion, Pa.; one great-grandson; two great-granddaughters; and three great-great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Sharar, and one brother, Nelson Sharar.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg. The Rev. Michael R. Brendle will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg.
Viewing will be held Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 8 Linden Ave., Mercersburg, PA 17236.
Nancy L. Smith
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Nancy L. Martz Smith, 63, of 808 Anthony Ave., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at her home.
Born Dec. 2, 1935, in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of Naida Rock Martz of Waynesboro and the late Omar Martz.
She was a 1953 graduate of Waynesboro High School.
In her earlier years she was employed at the old Waynesboro YMCA on North Potomac Street as a swimming coach. She worked as a pharmacist technician at Smith's Drug Store for more than 42 years, retiring Sept. 30, 1999.
She attended Otterbein United Brethren in Christ Church, Waynesboro.
She was a member of AARP.
In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband of more than 43 years, Donald A. Smith; one daughter, Cathy J. Minnich of Waynesboro; one son, Michael T. Smith of Waynesboro; three grandchildren; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores A. Clarke and Karen Sprankle.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. K. Allan Mummert will officiate. Burial will be in Burns Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
At Mrs. Smith's request, there will be no public viewing. The family will, however, receive friends one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.
Charles E. Brookens
FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Charles E. Brookens, 86, of 2424 Smoketown Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Oct. 16, 1999, at his home.
Born Feb. 4, 1913, in Fayetteville, he was the son of the late William H. and Clara Perry Brookens.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Fraker Brookens, in 1991.
He had worked in construction all his life and was last employed by Jay Jones.
He is survived by two sisters, Grace Forbes of Chewsville and Ethel Byers of Fayetteville; and one brother, Russell Brookens of Chambersburg, Pa.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.
A private funeral service will be held at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Donald L. Bender will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Chambersburg.
Galen D. Wright
WELLS TANNERY, Pa. - Galen Duane Wright, 38, of Wells Tannery, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, in Wells Tannery, the result of an automobile accident.
Born Sept. 7, 1961, in Wells Tannery, he was the son of Vivian Wright of Wells Tannery.
He was a welder at JLG Industries.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He was a member of American Legion Post No. 561 in McConnellsburg, Pa.; a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Harrisonville, Pa.; and a member of Fulton County Sportsmen's League.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son, Galen Wright Jr. of Wells Tannery.
A service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Sipes Funeral home, 6633 Lincoln Highway in Harrisonville. Pastor Sam Stoey will officiate. Burial will be in Wells Valley Presbyterian Cemetery in Wells Tannery.
Visitation will be Monday from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Gladys E. Berkey
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Gladys E. Berkey, 75, of 834 S. She is survived by her husband, Leonard R. Berkey, whom she married

She was preceded in death by a brother and two grandsons.
A service will be held Tuesday at 1 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. K. Hull Byers will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.
Visitation will be Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pauline G. Chastulik

She was employed at the former Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, and retired in 1978 from the former Stanley Co. in Chambersburg.
She was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post No. 1599 VFW, a member of Women of the Moose Chapter No. 1128 in Chambersburg, the Chambersburg Senior Center, the AARP and the Disabled American Veterans Ladies Auxiliary.
She is survived by three daughters, Judy Shatzer of Upper Strasburg, Pa., and Linda Gipe and Dana Swandol, both of Chambersburg; a son, Robert S. Chastulik Jr. of Chambersburg; a sister, Dorothy Shetter of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters.
A service will be held Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road in Chambersburg. The Rev. Ruth I. Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery.
Visitation will be Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. Women of the Moose will conduct a service at 7 p.m.
