CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Richard L. Strickler, 68, of 127 Shivley Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital.
Born Jan. 21, 1931, in Newmanstown, Pa., he was the son of the late Raymond and Sarah Meiser Strickler.
He was a 1949 graduate of Newmanstown High School.
He retired in 1987 from Washington National Life Insurance Co., Chambersburg, as a district manager.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served in the Korean War.
He was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.
A pitcher, he was undefeated in high school games. Upon graduation, he was signed by the Boston Braves and played in the minor league. In 1987 he was inducted into the Central Pennsylvania Chapter Sports Hall of Fame.
He was a member of George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM, Chambersburg.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. Eckert Strickler, whom he married
in 1952; five daughters, Jill Kennedy of El Paso, Texas, Kathy Zimmerman, Pam Helmuth and Kim Wilson, all of Chambersburg, and Lori Shearer of Fayetteville, Pa.; two sisters, Barbara Schwalm and Linda Derr, both of Richland, Pa.; five brothers, Robert Strickler of Callas, Texas, Larry Strickler of Cedar Falls, Iowa, Terry Strickler of Lebanon, Pa., George Strickler and John Strickler, both of Newmanstown; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be Thursday at 11:30 a.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Stephen W. Hoffman will officiate. Entombment will be in Parklawns, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home, with a Masonic service at 8:30 p.m. by George Washington Lodge 143 F&AM.

Nellie G. Diffenderfer
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Nellie G. Born Dec. 19, 1903, in Antrim Township, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Maurice and Susan Faust Brandt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman G. Diffenderfer, in 1977.
She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ, Chambersburg.
She was formerly active in Toy Mission in Chambersburg.
She is survived by three sons, N. Kenneth Diffenderfer of Hagerstown, Donald L. Diffenderfer of Bunker Hill, W.Va., and Thomas H. Diffenderfer of Camp Hill, Pa.; one sister, Helen Beaver of Greencastle, Pa.; one half-sister, Pearl Jones of Waynesboro, Pa.; one half-brother, Edward Brandt of Chambersburg, Pa.; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Stephen W. Hoffman will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, St. Thomas, Pa.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
Marion K. MacPherson
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Marion K. MacPherson, 78, of 860-B Menno Village, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Oct. 10, 1999, at Menno Haven Nursing Home.
Born Sept. 22, 1921, in Phillipsburg, N.J., she was the daughter of the late J. William and Cora Loder Kinney.
She was a 1939 graduate of Phillipsburg High School and a 1943 graduate of Rider University where she received her B.S. and education degrees.
For a number of years she taught business at several schools including Clinton, N.J. From 1972 to 1987 she was employed at Squire's Appliances as a bookkeeper.
She was a member of Shippensburg Presbyterian Church and she served as church secretary for 13 years, was a trustee and had been past president of the Women's Association.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Earl G. "Mac" MacPherson; one son, David S. MacPherson of Oakton, Va.; one sister, Muriel Kinney of Albany, N.Y., and one aunt.
Memorial services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Shippensburg Presbyterian Church, 12 S. Prince St., Shippensburg. The Rev. John C. Berstecher will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 at Robert G. Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg.

Alta N. Griffith
QUINCY, Pa. - Alta N. Born Feb. 23, 1929, in Randallstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Harry L. and Nellie B. Hamilton Nelson.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Willard M. Dorn, whom she married

She was a member of the Mount Paran Presbyterian Church in the Randallstown area and she taught the Adult Sunday School Class for a number of years. She also was a member of the Women's Society of the church and served in various other church activities. She was a member of Waynesboro Bible Church after moving to Quincy.
She was elected to the Quincy Village Residence Council and was a member of A.A.R.P.
She and her husband did volunteer work at the nearby hospital while living in the Hedgesville area.
She is survived by one son, Ronald L. Dorn of Felton, Pa.; one step-daughter, Drucilla A. Bauer of Glen Bernie, Md.; two grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by one sister and two brothers.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at Waynesboro Bible Church, 8216 Stottlemyer Rd., Waynesboro. The Rev. Robert Fitz and the Rev. Herbert Ruby will officiate. Burial will be in Mt. Paran Presbyterian Cemetery, Randallstown.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 3 to 5 and from 7 to 9 at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Nathan C. Eccard; five sisters, Lorraine Figler, Nancy Sharer, Patricia Boward and Peggy Young, all of Hagerstown and Sinez Lefkowitz of Baltimore; two brothers, Richard McEroy of Hagerstown and Ronald McEroy of Funkstown.
She was preceded in death by one sister and four brothers.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church, 141 S. Potomac St., Hagerstown. The Rev. Edward Heim will officiate. Burial will be in Beaver Creel Cemetery, Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends this evening from 3 to 5 p.m. and from 7 to 7 p.m. at Bast Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro.
Leslie M. Hess
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Leslie M. Hess, 88, of 143 W. King St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Oct. 8, 1999, at Menno Haven in Chambersburg, Pa.
Born March 13, 1911, in Quincy Township, Pa., he was the son of the late William T. and Ida Benedict Hess.
He attended Pigeon Hill School and graduated from Chambersburg High School with the class of 1928. In 1934, he graduated from Shippensburg State Teachers' College with a degree in science and mathematics.
Following graduation from college, he was employed in the order department of Landis Machine Company, now known as Landis Threading Systems in Waynesboro. He remained with the company for his entire career, becoming treasurer, vice president and eventually president. As president from 1963 to 1975, he oversaw the company's transition from a local company to membership in the Teledyne conglomerate. Appointed a Teledyne group executive in 1970, he participated in the management of manufacturing companies in the U.S., England, Germany, Canada and Mexico.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Waynesboro, where he served on the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Board, and was a member of the Men's Bible Class.
He was a director of First National Bank and Trust Co. in Waynesboro. He served on many local boards, including school, hospital and United Way. He also was a member of BPO Elks Lodge No. 731 in Waynesboro; Waynesboro Fish and Game Association; Waynesboro Historical Society; Kittochtinny Historical Society in Chambersburg; South Chapter No. 2977 AARP in Waynesboro; and National AARP. He was a former member of Waynesboro Country Club.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Margaret Schroyer Hess, whom he married
June 13, 1937; a daughter, Jane Hess Flanders of Pelham, N.Y.; two sons, John A. Hess of Weston, Conn. and William L. Hess of Abilene, Texas; seven grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and a brother, Samuel Benedict Hess of Chambersburg.
He was preceded in death by five sisters and a brother.
A service will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at Christ United Methodist in Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.
Memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro Historical Society, 138 W. Main St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.
