WARFORDSBURG, Pa. - Otis E. Born Oct. 20, 1924, near Hancock, he was the son of the late Elwood and Ella Mae Younker Shives.

He had been employed by Pittmans IGA Market in Hancock; and the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served in World War II and Korea.

He was a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church in Warfordsburg.

He is survived by his wife, Leona R. Mellott Shives, whom he married May 4, 1946; two daughters, Anita Hollenshead of Needmore, Pa., and Barbara Revell of Big Pool; one son, Gary Shives of Hancock; three sisters, Betty Waltz of Big Cove Tannery, Pa., Mary Ellen Tyessen of Hagerstown and Mildred Valentine of Mineral Ridge, Ohio; three granddaughters and two grandsons.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Warfordsburg. The Rev. Denver Plessinger will officiate. Burial will be in the adjoining church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock, and Saturday at the church at 1 p.m. The funeral home will be open today from 3 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Pleasant Grove Christian Church, Rural Route 1, Box 586, Warfordsburg, PA 17267.

Ruth C. Doyle

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Ruth C. Rhone Doyle, 69, of 5500 Lincoln Way East, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at Harrisburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born June 15, 1930, in York County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late John Sr. and Mabel Roser Rhone.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Fayetteville Pentecostal Church of God.

She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Earl J. Doyle Sr.; four daughters, Linda C. Bingaman of Greencastle, Pa., Shirley M. Group and Lina Simmers, both of Chambersburg, Pa., and Tina M. McIntyre of Greencastle; three sons, Earl J. Doyle Jr. of Greencastle, Carl E. Doyle of Waynesboro and Bradley L. Doyle of Fayetteville; two brothers, Marcus Rhone of Greencastle and Marlett Rhone of Mont Alto, Pa.; a special family member, Gilbert Heefner; 14 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, John Rhone Jr.

A memorial service will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fayetteville Pentecostal Church of God, 5276 Treher Road in Fayetteville. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mont Alto.

The family will receive friends Saturday at 1 p.m. at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to Doyle Family Lot 7-C, 5500 Lincoln Way East, Fayetteville, PA 17222.

Arrangements are by Cumberland Valley Crematorium, Waynesboro, Pa.

Janice L. Hamilton

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Janice L. Hamilton, 72, of 2599 Warm Spring Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, Sept. 1, 1999, at her home.

Born March 6, 1927, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Harry C. and Hilda I. Beachley Eckstine.

She was a graduate of Greencastle (Pa.) High School, Greencastle, Pa.

She retired in 1989 from Shoemaker's Upholstery, Chambersburg, as a seamstress. She previously had been employed at Tip Top Cleaners in Chambersburg.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary, Chambersburg.

She is survived by her husband, Roy R. Hamilton, whom she married in 1946; one daughter, Candice Ann Mellott of San Diego; one sister, Joyce P. Adams of Chambersburg; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 10 a.m. at the Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Revs. Patrick B. Jones and Lester F. Stine will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Monday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Panhandle, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or to King Street United Brethren Church, 172 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Melvin L. Welsh Jr.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Melvin L. Welsh Jr., 42, of 4689 Railroad Road, and formerly of 640 Mickey Inn Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, at York (Pa.) Hospital, of injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.

Born Nov. 9, 1956, in Chambersburg, he was the son of Naomi R. Kendall Androchek of Chambersburg and the late Melvin L. Welsh Sr.

He was a welder for Danco Products in Greencastle, Pa.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, Josephine M. Thompson Welsh, whom he married Oct. 7, 1974; a daughter, Tamar R. Moatz of Chambersburg; two sons, Melvin L. Welsh III and Bobby A. Welsh, both of Chambersburg; a sister, Rose M. Welsh of Chambersburg; two brothers, Gordon E. Welsh and Mark E. Welsh, both of St. Thomas, Pa.; a foster sister, Sherry McDonald of Chambersburg; and twin granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his stepfather, Daniel J. Androchek; and a stepsister, Debbie MacNeill.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. George S. Mouer Sr. will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens in Chambersburg.

Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Friday at 1 p.m.

Roy J. Keefer

MERCERSBURG, Pa. - Roy J. Keefer, 73, of 10019 Shimpstown Road, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, Aug. 31, 1999, at Chambersburg (Pa.) Hospital.

Born Nov. 15, 1925, near Mercersburg, he was the son of the late Aaron S. and Missouri Hornbaker Keefer.

He was a former employee of Lowengart Co. in Mercersburg. He was last employed for 10 years by Mercersburg Plumbing Supply Co. He was a farmer.

A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served during World War II.

He was a Protestant.

He was a member of Clarence Armstrong VFW Post 6241 in Mercersburg.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Eberly Keefer, whom he married June 4, 1955; one daughter, Brenda S. Keefer of Chambersburg; one son, Jere J. Keefer of Middleburg, Pa.; two brothers, Paul S. Keefer of Fannettsburg, Pa., and Glenn F. Keefer of Clear Spring; and two grandchildren.

Services will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Clayton Memorial Church of God in Mercersburg. The Revs. Paul W. Nolan and Alvin E. Goetz will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Mercersburg, with military services by Charles M. Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard.

Viewing will be Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at Lininger-Fries Funeral Home, 47 N. Park Ave., Mercersburg; and Friday at the church at noon.

William D. Freshman

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - William D. "Buck" Freshman, 53, of 525 Hood St., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Monday, Aug. 30, 1999, of injuries received in a traffic accident near Chambersburg Pa.

Born Feb. 24, 1946, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles J. and Sara R. Tice Freshman.

He was a 1964 graduate of Greencastle-Antrim High School.

He was employed as a welder at Danco Products in Greencastle. For more than 28 years, he had been a jockey at Charles Town Races in Charles Town, W.Va., and at Maryland tracks.

He attended Trinity Lutheran Church of Greencastle.

He was a member of Chambersburg Elks Club and Greencastle Rescue Hose Co. No. 1; a social member of Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post No. 6319 of Greencastle; and a former member of the Jockey Guild.

He is survived by a daughter, April E. Freshman of Hyattsville, Md.; five sisters, Donna R. Wolfe, Karen L. Johns and Sherry K. Bingaman, all of Greencastle, Virginia L. Unterseher of Longmont, Colo., and Beverly M. Cleaton of Ford, Va.; four brothers, Charles E. Freshman of Mercersburg, Pa., Carroll L. Freshman and Richard L. Freshman, both of Greencastle, and Daryl W. Freshman of Summerville, S.C.; nieces; nephews; and his companion, Susan Rebert of Chambersburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Ronald E. Freshman.

Services will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle. Pastor William W. DeHass will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of Trinity Lutheran Church, 145 E. Baltimore St., Greencastle, PA 17225.
