Born Sept. 24, 1914, in Linwood, Md., she was the daughter of the late William Harry Sr. and Eva N. Bowens Smith.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel W. Dyson, in 1990. They were married in 1950.

She attended Bark Hill (Md.) School.

She had worked in a canning factory in Melrose, Md.; then did domestic work for families after moving to Waynesboro.

She was a member of St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Waynesboro, was on the Steward Board, was a stewardess, and was a member of the Missionary Society.

She is survived by one son, Fred Sims Jr. of Alexandria, Va.; one sister, Erma S. Cook of Linwood; two brothers, W. Harry Smith Jr. of Baltimore and Marlo G. Smith of Union Bridge, Md.; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred I. Peters; four brothers, Joseph L. Smith, Thomas Smith, Richard W. Smith and Nathan E. Smith.

Services will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Paul A.M.E. Church, Waynesboro. The Rev. Gregory P. Nelson will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Paul A.M.E. Church, 30 W. King St., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Arrangements are made by Grove Funeral Home, Waynesboro.

Trayer B. Howe Sr.

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Trayer B. Howe Sr., 83, of 6413 Lincoln Way East, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital in Chambersburg, Pa.

Born Jan. 21, 1916, in Rouzerville, Pa., he was the son of the late Charles E. and Iva N. Fox Howe.

He attended Waynesboro, Pa. schools and was a 1934 graduate of Chambersburg High School.

He retired in 1981 from Grove Manufacturing Co. where he was director of purchasing. From 1934 to 1940, he was a radio announcer in Easton, Pa. and at WJEJ in Hagerstown. He also worked as an ammunition inspector for Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg. From 1946 to 1957, he was owner-operator of Howe's Bicycle Shop in Chambersburg.

He served in the Merchant Marines.

He was a member of Belvedere Yacht Club in Severna Park, Md. from 1970 to 1980. He was a former member of B.P.O. Elks 600 in Chambersburg.

He is survived by his wife Mary F. Donegan Howe, whom he married Aug. 12, 1939; one son, Trayer B. Howe of Shippensburg, Pa.; one sister, Camille Gilbert of Michaux Manor, South Mountain, Pa.; and nieces and nephews.

Private graveside services will be held Tuesday in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association, Franklin/Fulton Division, 225 E. King St., Chambersburg, Pa. 17201.

Mary C.V. Dailey

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary C.V. Dailey, 96, a resident of Manorcare Health Services, formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, in the nursing home.

Born March 31, 1903, in Tomstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Jeremiah and Annie M. Smith Dailey.

She did domestic work for various families in the Waynesboro area and was employed by W.H. Menchey for 25 years.

She was a member of Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church in Waynesboro.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. at Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, 152 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro. The Rev. John D. Fickett will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery in Mont Alto, Pa.

There will be no public viewing, but the family will receive friends Tuesday one hour prior to services at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Fairview Avenue Brethren in Christ Church, 152 Fairview Ave., Waynesboro, PA 17268.

Arrangements are by Grove Funeral Home in Waynesboro.

Elsie G. King

QUINCY, Pa. - Elsie G. Benshoff King, 88, a resident of Quincy United Methodist Home, formerly of Waynesboro, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, Aug. 15, 1999, at the nursing home.

Born Jan. 26, 1911, near Mont Alto, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Roy E. and Bernice M. Mickley Benshoff.

She attended Quincy High School.

She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Waynesboro Church of the Brethren for more than 30 years.

She is survived by one son, Ray W. King of Walkersville, Md.; three sisters, Luella M. Helman and Lois V. Hess, both of Waynesboro and Pauline Anthony of Mont Alto; three brothers, Lloyd Benshoff and Clayton Benshoff, both of Mont Alto and Arden Benshoff of Waynesboro; two grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Clara Marie King, in 1930; and one sister, Marie McCleary, in 1998.

Services will be held Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Prue Yelinek will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery in Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Kathryn B. Hawk

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Kathryn B. Hawk, 97, of 1021 S. Fifth St., formerly of 6428 Hawk Road, Mercersburg, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Aug. 14, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Dec. 14, 1901, in Williamson, Pa., she was the daughter of the late James W. and Martha Garman Barnhart.

She was a retired school teacher, having taught in the Tuscarora School District, mostly in Williamson and St. Thomas, Pa. She also helped her husband on the family farm for many years.

She was a member of St. Stephen's United Church of Christ in Upton, Pa., where she taught Sunday School, played piano for the Sunday School and was a member of the women's guild of the church.

She was a charter member of Farm Women's Group No. 5 of Franklin County, Pa.

She is survived by one son, Paul Barrie Hawk of Chambersburg; two grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.

She was preceded in death by and infant son; and two brothers, Theodore Barnhart and Paul A. Barnhart.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle, Pa. The Rev. Douglas Hodges and the Rev. David Kent will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Greencastle.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Barnhart Memorial Fund of Shippensburg University, 1871 Old Main Drive, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
