Born July 4, 1921, in Roadside, Pa., he was the son of the late Norman and Katherine Patterson Ditch.
His wife, Bessie V. Ickes Ditch, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in 1996. They were married
July 12, 1948.
He attended the former Roadside School on Country Club Road near Waynesboro.
He worked with Nitterhouse Construction in Chambersburg, and Crown America in Johnstown, Pa. He was employed with Union 910 in Johnstown before retiring in 1983.
He served in the U.S. Army in the Military Police and was stationed in Alaska.
He was a member of New Guilford Brethren in Christ Church in Chambersburg.
He also was a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles 1758, Joe Stickell American Legion Post 15, both in Waynesboro, Blue Ridge Sportsmens Club in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., Fairfield AM Veterans Post 172, Marine Corps of Chambersburg, and Minnequa Social Club and Hub City, both in Shippensburg, Pa.
He is survived by two daughters, Wanda J. Ditch and Barbara K. Rotz, both of Mont Alto; two sons, Arthur E. Ickes and Terry Ditch, both of Chambersburg; three sisters, Katherine Daywalt of Fayetteville, Pa., and Lucy Sprankle and Eva Shockey, both of Waynesboro; three brothers, Richard Ditch, Lee Ditch and Melvin Ditch, all of Waynesboro; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Kenneth Ditch, Walter Ditch and Joseph Ditch.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor Robert D. Verno will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Zion Cemetery in Quincy, Pa., with graveside military services conducted by Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post 1599 Honor Guard, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m.
Catherine G. Minnich
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Catherine G. Minnich, 98, of Manor Care Health Services, and formerly of 25 N. Franklin St., Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, July 18, 1999, at ManorCare Health Services.
Born May 19, 1901, in St. Thomas, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Robert Clinton Graham and Clara Etta Umberhocker Graham.
Her husband, Jerry Minnich Sr., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died in 1964.
She retired from People's Drug Store in Chambersburg. She previously was employed by the former Blue Ridge Woolen Mill and at Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg.
She was a member of Central Presbyterian Church in Chambersburg.
She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary to Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW in Chambersburg.
She is survived by two sons, Jerry Minnich Jr. of Temecula, Calif., and Robert C. Minnich of Chambersburg; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers.
Private graveside services were held Wednesday in Norland Cemetery. The Rev. C. Edward Morgan officiated.
The family requests the omission of flowers. Memorial donations may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 40 Lincoln Way West, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
Arrangements were by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.
Wilmot Goble
McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Wilmot Goble, 83, of McConnellsburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Wednesday, July 21, 1999, at Fulton County Medical Center in McConnellsburg.
Born May, 13, 1916, in Bridgeport, Conn., he was the son of the late Frank C. and Gertrude Eagan Goble.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Lorraine Lenon Goble, in 1979.
He was a career liquor salesman and sales manager. He retired in 1978.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.
He was of the Catholic faith.
He was a member of VFW Post No. 655, McConnellsburg.
He is survived by a son, William F. Goble of Ellicott City, Md.; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Sipes Funeral Home, Harrisonville, Pa. The Rev. David Becker will be celebrant.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, McConnellsburg with a military service by Fulton Honor Guard.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 9 p.m. with the family receiving friends from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Bernardine Churchfield
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Bernardine Redding Churchfield, 89, of Menno Haven, and formerly of 200 N. She was born July 6, 1910, in Waynesboro, Pa.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul B. Churchfield, in 1991. They were married
June 27, 1930.
She was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church, Chambersburg.
She is survived by a daughter, Patricia Lewis of Chambersburg; three granddaughters, Carol Dilione of Nicholson, Pa., and Sharon McCleary and Kathy Kreiger, both of Chambersburg; and five great-grandchildren.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. A. Robert Cook will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.
The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
It was her request to have no public viewing.
Galen M. Hartman
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Galen M. Hartman, 80, of Woven Hearts of Chambersburg, and formerly of 9951 McClanahan Road, Greencastle, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Tuesday, July 20, 1999, at Woven Hearts.
Born April 16, 1919, in Waynesboro, Pa., he was the son of the late Aaron and Mary Barlup Hartman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice E. "Betty" Cowan Hartman, in February 1999. They were married
Nov. 8, 1945.
After retiring from farming, he worked as a salesman for Melrose Farm Supply of Greencastle.
A veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army 10th Armored Division. He received a purple heart for being wounded in St. Lo, France.
He was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church of Greencastle.
He had been active in local square dance organizations.
He was a member of Pennsylvania Farmers Association; and Harry D. Zeigler VFW Post No. 6319 of Greencastle.
He is survived by a daughter, Bonnie K. Zeis of Greencastle; four sisters, Pearl Wagaman of Waynesboro, Ruth Shearer of Hagerstown, Naomi Carr of Greencastle and Vera Hartman of Chambersburg; three brothers, Richard Hartman of Greencastle, Edgar Hartman of Chambersburg and Carroll Hartman of Mercersburg, Pa.; two grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Hartman; an infant sister, Margaret Hartman; and three brothers, Glenn Hartman, Casper Hartman and Ralph Hartman.
Services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St. Greencastle. The Rev. Alan Wilson will officiate. Burial will be in Parklawns Memorial Gardens, Chambersburg.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of the Good Shepherd, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17201; or Memorial Fund of Evangelical Lutheran Church, 130 N. Washington St., Greencastle, PA 17225.
