ST. THOMAS, Pa. - Richard Eugene Upperman, 55, of 38 Carlton Circle, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at his home.
Born Oct. 2, 1943, he was the son of the late Charles and Ada Hocker Upperman.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Connie Overcash Upperman, in 1987; and by his second wife, Carolyn Jean Wright Upper, in May 1999.
He was employed by Erie Insurance as an appraiser.
He served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
He was a member of St. Thomas United Methodist Church.
He was a member of the Marine Corps League; Military Order of Devil Dogs; AMVETS Post 224; American Legion 612; St. Thomas and 606, Fort Loudon; Chambersburg Club; V.F.W. Post 1599, Chambersburg; Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite of Free Masonary, George Washington Lodge; Franklin Fire Co. No. 4; and St. Thomas Volunteer Fire Co.
He is survived by one son, Christopher Upperman of St. Thomas; two stepsons, Roy Guessford Jr. of Greencastle, Pa., and Rodney Guessford of Williamsport; two stepdaughters, Robin Miller of Hagerstown and Kimberly Hovanec of Greencastle; three brothers, Arthur Upperman of Carlisle, Pa., Charles S. Upperman of Horse Valley, Pa., and Donald D. Upperman of St. Thomas; five sisters, Alva Kline, Arlene Hull, Peggy Stine and Janis Stoy, all of Chambersburg, and Matilda Stine of Fort Loudon; two grandchildren, and seven stepgrandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at St. Thomas United Methodist Church. The Rev. James E. Gilliam will officiate.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday.
Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, St. Thomas, is in charge of arrangements.
Catharine C. Mosser
CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Catharine Clevenger Mosser, 97, of Penn Hall Nursing Home, Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, June 13, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Feb. 2, 1902, she was the daughter of the late Ahimaaz and Mary Keefer Clevenger.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Mosser, in 1974.
She taught school in McConnellsburg for 25 years; and worked for the Liquor Control Board in Harrisburg, Pa.
She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church of McConnellsburg.
She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Capital City Chapter 146; Ladies Auxiliary BPO Elks 600; and Tri-County Lodge 76 Auxiliary of Fraternal Order of Police.
She is survived by five nieces, Carolyn Glenn and Peggy Headley, both of McConnellsburg, Pa., Helen Chesnut of Chambersburg, Elizabeth Banks of Mechanicsburg, Pa., and Catherine Jean Bivens of Big Cove Tannery, Pa.; and one nephew, William Selser of Mercersburg, Pa.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Jacob Clevenger and Calvin Clevenger; and two sisters, Lydia Clevenger and Bertha C. McLucas.
Services will be Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg. Vicar Jeffrey Lordi will officiate. Burial will be on Union Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Hazel I. Mowen
WILLIAMSON, Pa. - Hazel I. Mowen, 69, a resident of Falling Spring Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Chambersburg, Pa., and formerly of 5620 Kennedy Ave., Williamson, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, June 12, 1999, at the nursing home.
Born Sept. 2, 1929, in Mason Dixon, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Daniel Harry and Rhoda C. Hicks Swisher.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Emory S. Mowen, whom she married

She attended the former Greenmount School and received her GED in 1985.
She retired in 1993 from Hicks Chevrolet of Greencastle. In her early life, she worked at the former ASBA Manufacturing Company of Greencastle, Pa. and later in the cafeteria of Greencastle-Antrim High School.
She was a member of Ebenezer (Guitners) United Brethren Church, near Greencastle, where she was a member of Women's Missionary Society, assisted with the Vacation Bible School Program and taught Sunday School. She also served as the church custodian along with her husband for several years.
She was a former member of Rescue Hose Company Ladies Auxiliary of Greencastle and a member of the drill team.
She is survived by one daughter, Marsha M. Snider of Waynesboro, Pa.; three sons, E. Dwain Mowen of Waynesboro, F. Olen Mowen and Shawn L. Mowen, both of Chambersburg; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Betty A. Laubs and two infant brothers. She was the last of her immediate family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Ebenezer (Guitners) United Brethren Church, 3661 Williamson Road, Greencastle. The Rev. Ralph L. Fry, Jr. and the Rev. Richard E. Mose will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Greencastle.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 to 9 at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, 45 S. Carlisle St., Greencastle and Wednesday one hour before the service at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Building Fund of Ebenezer United Brethren Church, 3661 Williamson Road, Greencastle, PA 17225.
Virginia E. Wills
WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Virginia E. Hardman Wills, of Hearthstone Retirement Home, 102, S. Born in Fountaindale, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Charles and Marie Wagaman Hardman.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald F. Wills Sr., whom she married

She was a life member and past president of Blue Ridge Mountain Fire Company Ladies' Auxiliary and a member of the National A.A.R.P.
She is survived by two sons, Donald F. Wills., Jr. of Greenstone, Pa., and Terry F. Wills of Hagerstown and a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Helen Foulk, and three brothers, Clarence Hardman, Ellis Hardman and Harry Hardman.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Jeffrey S. Swanger and the Rev. Eugene M. Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Fairfield Union Cemetery, Fairfield.
The family will receive friends today from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

She had served as a volunteer with Franklin County Democratic Party, Chambersburg Hospital, Franklin County Meals on Wheels and The Inn at Luther Ridge. She was also a member of a local bridge club.
She is survived by one daughter, Wendy R. Krammes of Aaronsburg, Pa.; one son, Wayne R. Shaneberger of Altoona, Pa., and five grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 2695 Luther Drive, Chambersburg. The Rev. Beth R. Lupolt will officiate. It was her wish that her body be donated to medical research through the Pennsylvania Anatomical Gifts Registry.
The family will receive friends Wednesday immediately following the service in the fellowship hall of St. Luke Lutheran Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 452 East King Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201.
Arrangements are by Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Inc., Chambersburg.
