WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Edward W. Born Nov. 29, 1933, in Chambersburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Herbert and Margaret Suders Washabaugh.

He attended Chambersburg High School.

He was employed at Fairchild Aircraft Manufacturing, Hagerstown. Prior to retiring in 1999 he worked at Landis Tool Co., Waynesboro, as a night superintendent.

He was a member of Christ United Methodist, Waynesboro and Wilson Sunday School Class. He taught various Sunday School classes for more than 40 years and was chairman of the Membership and Evangelism Committee, served on the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Board as Sunday School superintendent for a number of years and as an usher.

He was a member of Waynesboro Fish and Game Association and National AARP.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia A. Frank Washabaugh, whom he married in 1952; two daughters, Kathleen A. Washabaugh and Melanie K. Welsh, both of Waynesboro; six sisters, Margaret Bonner, Mona Etter, Deborah Carmack and Sandra Deshong, all of Chambersburg, Doris Becker of Delaware, and Karen Washabaugh of Carlisle, Pa.; four brothers, Herbert T. Washabaugh of Carlisle, Donald Washabaugh of Potomac, Md., Richard Washabaugh and Bernard Washabaugh, both of Chambersburg; two grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Dovey and Susan Washabaugh and one brother, James Washabaugh.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Christ United Methodist Church, 6. W. Second St., Waynesboro. The Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman will officiate. Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery, Waynesboro.

The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 9 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ United Methodist Church, 6. W. Second St., Waynesboro, PA 17268 or to American Cancer Society, 452 E. King St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Berlin W. Shoemaker

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Berlin W. Shoemaker, 94, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, and formerly of 328 W. Queen St., Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital.

Born Oct. 26, 1904, in Wittaker, Pa., she was the son of the late David A. and Nancy Ann Vanscyoc Shoemaker.

She had attended Chambersburg High School and graduated in 1926 from the former Chambersburg Hospital School of Nursing. She later graduated from Allegheny General Hospital School of Nursing, Pittsburgh, having received a degree in dermatology and orthopedics. She went on to attend Penn State University where she received a certificate of administration and later received a certificate of administration from the University of Maryland.

She had been employed at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, as a registered nurse. She was later employed as assistant nursing supervisor at Chambersburg Hospital for more than 18 years until her retirement in 1972. She also had been employed as a private duty nurse in Chambersburg for more than 20 years with Metropolitan Insurance Co.

She was a member of King Street United Brethren Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member of Chambersburg Garden Club, Business and Professional Women's Club, Chambersburg, Daffodil Society, Chambersburg, South Penn Rose Society and American Rose Society.

She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. Patrick B. Jones and the Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Noland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be made to Cardiac Care Unit c/o Chambersburg Hospital, 112 N. Seventh St., Chambersburg, PA 17201.

Marjorie M. Heckler

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Marjorie Speer Maclay Heckler, 94, of 2735 Luther Drive, No. 8, The Inn at Luther Ridge, Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Sunday, May 2, 1999, at her home.

Born May 12, 1904, in Maclay's Mill, Lurgan Township, she was the daughter of the late Ralph and Anna Mary Warren Maclay.

She was a 1922 graduate of Shippensburg University.

She taught elementary school at Scotland School for Veteran Children for 13 years and also in Greene Township School District.

She was a member of St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church, Scotland, and a former member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Chambersburg.

She was a member and past president of Delta Kappa Gamma Society, Omega Chapter, past president of Franklin County Retired Teachers, a volunteer with Meals on Wheels, Chambersburg Hospital Auxiliary, Chambersburg Visitor Center, AARP and Valley Cedarettes.

She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Maurice Heckler; one daughter, Anna Louise Heckler of Shippensburg, Pa.; two sons, James R. Heckler of Cape Coral, Fla., and David M. Heckler of Naples, Fla.; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and 12 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Anna Mary Maclay and Mildred Fickes Maclay and five brothers, Warren Maclay, Robert Maclay, Charles Maclay, William Maclay and Bruce Maclay.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at St. Luke Evangelical Lutheran Church. The Rev. Beth R. Lupolt will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Sellers Funeral Home, 297 Philadelphia Ave., Chambersburg and Thursday one hour prior to the service at the church.

Elizabeth M. Coldsmith

Born Oct. 28, 1927, in Letterkenny Township, Franklin County, she was the daughter of Janet Perry Eberly of Greencastle, Pa., and the late Harry Eberly.

She and her husband operated a farm.

She was a former member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Scotland, Pa., and the Brethren in Christ Church.

In addition to her mother, she is survived by her husband, Walter Byron Coldsmith; two daughters, Barbara E. Hofe of Shippensburg and Bethann M. Brown of Chambersburg; three sons, Walter B. Coldsmith, Byron M. Coldsmith, and Bernard J. Coldsmith, all of Shippensburg; two brothers, Richard Eberly of Waynesboro, Pa., and Rodney Eberly of Greencastle and 14 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at Fogelsanger-Bricker Funeral Home Inc., Chambersburg. The Rev. Kevin L. Witter will officiate. Burial will be in Norland Cemetery, Greene Township.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mae E. Strock

She was a member of First United Methodist Church.

Strock of Chambersburg; one brother, Russell I. Sellers of Fort Myers, Fla.; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral services and burial will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

The family requests the omission of flowers.

Mary B. Wingert

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Mary B. Born April 24, 1903, in St. Thomas Township, Franklin County, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Samuel H. and Effie V. Sellers Keller.

She was a member of United Methodist Church of St. Thomas.

She is survived by one daughter, Janet Unger of Mercersburg, Pa.; one son, C. Eugene Wingert of St. Thomas; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was the last of her immediate family.

She was preceded in death by one sister and five brothers.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at United Methodist Church of St. Thomas. The Rev. Paul Crawford will officiate. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. in the church before the service.

Memorial contributions may be made to United Methodist Church of St. Thomas, 360 St. Thomas-Edenville Road, St. Thomas, PA 17252.
