Born July, 17, 1920, in Conacanissing, Pa., she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Gray Scott.

She was employed as resident manager of Randolph Square Apartments.

She is survived by one daughter, Margaret Joanne Yates of Beltsville, Md.; one sister, Cora McCormick of Evans City, Pa.; 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Vivian Pollock, two sons, Robert Lockard and David Lockard; two sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Kelso-Cornelius Funeral Home, McConnellsburg, Pa. The Rev. Doug Poffenburger will officiate. Burial will be in Union Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends the funeral home will be open from 2 to 9 p.m.

Catherine E. Dempsey

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Catherine E. Dempsey, 75, a resident of ManorCare Health Services, Chambersburg and formerly of 211 Glen Street, Chambersburg, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at ManorCare.

Born July 20, 1923, in Johnstown, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Florian H. and Bertha Kennedy Hipp.

She received a BS degree in education from University of Indiana, Butler, Pa. and her masters degree from Penn State University.

She was a member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Chambersburg.

She is survived by one daughter, Catherine Cason of Belcamp, Md.; one son, Francis J. Dempsey of Chambersburg; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and one granddaughter.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Corpus Christi Catholic Church, 320 Philadelphia Avenue, Chambersburg. The Rev. Daniel F. Lawler, SJ will officiate. Burial will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends this evening from 7 to 9 at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg.

A rosary will be recited tonight at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Alvin L. Wade

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Alvin L. Wade, 63, of 613 Fairground Avenue, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at Chambersburg Hospital, Chambersburg.

Born Aug. 27, 1935, in Greencastle, Pa., he was the son of the late John W. and Edith C. Meyers Wade.

He was retired from Central Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Hagerstown in 1992.

He is survived by his wife, Irene E. Fitzgerald Wade; one daughter, Cynthia K. Wade of Chambersburg; one son, Steven L. Wade of Chambersburg; one sister, Tressie Seville of Chambersburg and two brothers, Paul Wade of St. Thomas, Pa., and Ralph Wade of Fayetteville. Pa.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Wade.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. K. Hull Byers will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Edward Payenski Sr.

FAYETTEVILLE, Pa. - Edward Payenski Sr., 80, of 33 Fifth Avenue, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Saturday, Jan. 9, 1999, at his home.

Born April 20, 1918, in Perth Amboy, NJ, he was the son of the late Stanley and Catherine Fronczyk Payenski.

He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and then attended Middlesex Trade School, Middlesex, NJ.

He worked at Letterkenny Army Depot for 16 years, retiring in 1979. He also had worked at Raritan Arsenal, NJ, for 16 years.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, where he served in northern France, the Rhineland and Central Europe.

He attended Fayetteville Church of God.

He was a member of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW, Chambersburg, Pa.

He is survived by one daughter, Dorothy Jean Hamilton of Fayetteville; one son, Edward Payenski Jr. of Chambersburg; two sisters, Helen Newmark of South Amboy, NJ, and Sue Farinich of Edison, NJ; one granddaughter and one grandson.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Pete Payenski.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. at Chapel of Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, 333 Falling Spring Road, Chambersburg. The Rev. George S. Mouer, Sr., will officiate. Burial will be in Lincoln Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7 to 9 at the funeral home.

Military graveside services will be conducted by members of Charles M. Nitterhouse Post 1599 VFW Honor Guard.

J. Robert Baugher

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - J. Robert "Bob" Baugher, 71, of 180 Briar Ridge Drive, Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Friday, Jan. 8, 1999, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Sept. 24, 1927, in Wayne Heights, Pa., he was the son of Nellie E. Faust Baugher Schellhase of Quincy United Methodist Home, Quincy, Pa., and the late Noah M. Baugher.

He was a 1945 graduate of Waynesboro High School and a graduate of Western Maryland College, where he received a degree in education.

He was employed at The Record Herald all of his working life, starting as a photographer and retiring in December 1988 as general manager.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of Trinity United Church of Christ, Waynesboro. He had served on the board of directors of Waynesboro Hospital.

His hobbies included model airplanes, classic guitars, photography and ham radios.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife, A. Jeannine Fisher Baugher, whom he married June 10, 1950; three daughters, Kay M. Sitler of Tamaqua, Pa., Wendy E. Alexander of Chambersburg, Pa., and Debbie S. Stoops of Mont Alto, Pa.; a son, Karl E. Baugher of New York City; a brother, Thomas L. Baugher of Westminster, Md.; and seven grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by a sister, Kay Baugher.

Memorial services will be today at 3:30 p.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 50 S. Broad St., Waynesboro. Pastor James T. Williams will officiate.

There will be no public viewing.

Memorial donations may be made to Waynesboro Welfare Association, 13 S. Church St., Waynesboro, Pa. 17268.

Gwendolyn G. Barnhart

McCONNELLSBURG, Pa. - Gwendolyn G. Barnhart, 78, a resident of Fulton County Medical Center Extended Care Facility and formerly of Warfordsburg, Pa., Cemetery-obituaries?utm_source=partner_genlookups&utm_medium=partner&utm_campaign=genlookups_July21_textlink&tr_ad_group=textlinks&tr_funnel=supersearch" target="_blank">died Thursday, Jan. 7, 1999, at the extended care facility.

Born June 19, 1920, in Mercersburg, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Edward and Goldie Goodman Hann.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Barnhart, in 1972.

She had been a seamstress with the former Sagner's Inc., McConnellsburg; and Jacob Brothers in Hancock. Later, she was a homemaker.

She was a member of May's Chapel Christian Church, Warfordsburg, Pa.

She is survived by two daughters, Norma L. Moats of Hancock and Patricia A. Dodson of Jacksonville, N.C.; three sons, James R. Barnhart and Eric R. Barnhart, both of Warfordsburg and Hobert Q. Barnhart of Little Orleans, Md.; a sister, Betty Gesswein of Kailua, Hawaii; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Barnhart; two sons, Roger A. Barnhart and Robert Barnhart; and two brothers, Edmond Hann and Hobert Hann.

Services will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Grove Funeral Home, 141 W. Main St., Hancock. The Rev. Delmas Bard will officiate. Burial will be in May's Chapel Christian Cemetery, Warfordsburg.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home. For the convenience of friends, the funeral home will be open Sunday from 2 to 9 p.m.

Memorial donations may be made to Fulton County Medical Center, Extended Care Facility, 261 South First St., McConnellsburg, PA 17233.
